Applications no longer working

For some reason a lot of my applications have decided to longer respond and when i try to load them i get the message stating that there was a problem and i can relaunch. when i relaunch i get the same message. i tried rebooting my laptop and still no luck. the app's were working but they no longer work. i am also having problems with programs crashing at some point. i have had leopard on this laptop for quite sometime now and i lost the disk. anyone have any suggestions?

Standard troubleshooting...
1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider. Slide to power off. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
- Press the home button when done.
4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

Applications no longer work with mavericks

After downloading Mavericks,
1. Applications no longer work, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, microsoft Office, Illustrator, and more
2. Multiple displays no longer work
3. Tried restoriing, but would not let me.

If coming from Snow Leopard, then PowerPC based apps will not run on anything beyond Snow Leopard.

Make sure you have the latest version of parrallels. Think older versions are not compatible.

I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac that was previously running Snow Leopard. Bugt I found that some key applications no longer work, so I would like to go back to snow Leopard. I can't use time machine backups for this. what can I do?

I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac. But In was dismayed to find that my Canon scanner software (Canoscan LIDE500F)no longer works. Nor do any of my MS offce applications. I tried to use time machine to reinstall Snow Leopard (my previous operating system), but unfortunately my time machine backups did not include system software. Also, the original system install disk that came with my iMac would not allow me to install Snow Leopard in place of Mountain Lion. I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me how to solve this problem.

The reason your Office doesn't work is because it is PowerPC code. If you will upgrade the 2004 Office to 2011 Office then that will work.
I don't understand how you managed to get your Time Machine backup to not backup the system.
Now if you still what to downgrade you will have to erase the disk and reinstall Snow Leopard. Most likely all of your application and then restore your data from Time Machine.
To me it sounds like it would be easier to upgrade your software and stay with Mountain Lion instead.

IPhone applications no longer work

I have had my iPhone for over a year and never had the troubles I am having now. I have installed dozens of apps and have the same update problem as all of you in this discussion. Now, most of my apps will not work at all! The past week, I have had apps crash and the iPhone would go back to the home screen. A reboot, by holding down the power button until asked to turn off the iPhone would usually solve this, but now, after several reboots, none of the apps are working now. On top of this, yesterday, I was stuck in the Phone app. I could select a contact and view a map of the address, but I could never get back to the home screen or select any other app. What was even worse was the fact that I could not reboot no matter how long I held down the power button. I had to hold both the power and home buttons which did reboot, but I lost all my music and videos. I am not looking forward to going through the entire process of installing everything again! Web apps still work fine as well as all of the Apple apps, but none of the free or purchased apps from the App Store work now. I think I'll try deleting all apps off the phone and from my Mobile Applications folder except for the $20 worth of paid apps that I have and start from scratch. If that does not work, I'll try a complete Restore which is a last resort since that involves hours of resetting preferences, app locations, etc.. By the way, what is with the hour long iPhone backup when synching through iTunes. Is this a bug in the new version of iTunes? I do not recall long backups before the iTunes update. I hope we get iTunes 7.7.2 and iPhone 2.0.1 soon. I hate to say this, but I miss the old reliable and bug-free iPhone version 1.1.4!!! Any insight from those of you reading this would be much appreciated.

Update from my original posting: I downloaded a free app from the iPhone, rebooted and everything is back in good working order, even the videos and music. I have over 80 apps and everything seems to work now except eReader which forced a reboot. I'm avoiding that app now and do not plan to download anything more or sync with iTunes again until Apple provides an update. I tried the same trick yesterday without success. What was different? I was on the Edge network yesterday and on my own WiFi network today. Seems hit and miss, but at least I did not go through the whole clean wipe process. I did not need to reinstall the videos or music. It seems these were always there on the iPhone, but not available. Since I had to type in my password in order to download the free app to the iPhone, it looks like there must be a bug in the software regarding authorization. Be sure you try this trick a few times before a clean wipe which will take hours of your time. I plan to wait a few days before marking this thread as "Answered" since others have had the same problem return.

Ios7 introduced critical bugs, application no longer works.

With Ios7 my application is having two problems:
1) It no longer displays in landscape mode, only portrait. This has happened to my game that is already on the app store and was working fine. The game is now unplayable with stretched graphics. Downloading the game and running on an older ipod that is on iOS6 displays in landscape mode correctly, as well as generating a device test .IPA file (to install on the ios6) with CS5.5 fully updated.
2) You can no longer install .IPA files for device testing on an ios7 device. It will display a grey icon and remain stuck forever in "stalling". The very same .IPA file will install and run correctly on an ios6 device.
Are there fixes to these bugs? Will we have to submitt our games again to the app store?
This is a very critical error. People that paid for my game can no longer play it. This needs to be fixed right now.

Apple most complicated company. They like change own API so anyone who developed app - may meet some issues in new iOS version or it minor update. I don't like Apple for this.
Quick publishing for device testing - I don't suggest to use this option. It's most slowest by performance. But it's have very fast compiling time. Don't forget to use AppStore publish profile for release version and performance benchmarking.
For iOS7 copability you may use latest SDK. At this time it's v4 beta from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html and released SDK just 3.9 and have issues with some features. I use Beta in my all projects and don't have any issues or don't see they.
Maybe iOS7 device don't incluse your UDID in provision?

Applications no longer work after fsck

Hi there,
I have been having major computer problems that just seem to keep getting worse.
Today - office 2011 stopped working (kept crashing at startup) so I did a completely fresh install of the software. Didn't work.
I then ran disk utility and came up with some errors which said the volume had to be repaired. I ran fsck -fy in Single User Mode (I realize I should not have added the y) and it repaired the drive successfully.(NOTE I am running 10.6.8)
Now any program I launch no longer sees any of the plugins that were installed - even though the path names are identical. seems like all of the programs cannot load anything from the initial path. (I.E. Adobe Illustrator CS4 cannot load ExpressView Support.aip)
What can I do?

you should always have an image of your drives, a system you can restore from.
That and keep all data away from the boot drive which should be OS and apps -- only - no data.
Do a clean install with another freshly initialized drive.
Use Setup Assistant from your old drive - maybe - but try to install as much as possible from master copies and that you trust.

PAGES application no longer works - I have reinstalled software

For some unknown reason the Pages application in my IWORKS bundle has stopped working and this is the main reason I purchased IWORKS was to use the Pages. I followed the suggestions...check for updates - there were none and I have installed the software which by the way you have to install all applications not just Pages. Below is the error message. Any suggestions on how to resolve. If I do not hear anything I will go out to Best Buy and talk to one of the Apple Reps.

I would be really surprised if you were ever able to use an application embedded in an IWORKS package.
Apple never delivered such a product !
The report clearly state that a file is missing :

Mobile IM application no longer works?

I have only have my new blackberry for 3 weeks... it came with an Application ... Mobile IM. I have been useing it and and love it. Now it will not let me access it , and seems to lock up the phone. Did I do something wrong or is this one of whose promotional things that come with the phone and only works for a limited time and now I have to pay extra?

As described, since I upgraded to Firefox 16.0.1 yesterday, when I access my work WebMail application of IBM Lotus iNotes 8.5.3 FP2, it will not send emails, reply to emails, or attach files to emails. I saw some similar issues posted for earlier versions, but our tech support group will not make changes and say Firefox is not a supported browser environment. So, I need to get an earlier version of Firefox until the interaction problem is fixed.

This is due to a change in Firefox removing the ability to used signed script. The technote below from IBM describes a workaround and a fix is due out in the next fixpack.

The "Quit all applications" key combination no longer works in Lion

The standard Mac OS key combination to "quit all applications" no longer works in Lion. It only quits some of them some of the time - not all of them all of the time. Could this have something to do with the other "no Save-As" problem?
Either way, it's yet another backwards step - one of several in Lion that are cumulatively slowing down and intefering with my workflow.
I fear someone may jump in here and explain that this is one of the great new features and that it's my fault for being too dumb to appreciate it.....

IPod Apps no longer work, Music disappears, Fix?

QUESTION : How to fix permanently the “iPod Touch Breakdown“?
(seems identical to the iPhone “Breakdown“)
Since I upgraded to 2.0.2, running iTunes 7.7.1 (11) on a MacBook Pro G4, I keep having big trouble with Apps, Music and Films.
Here is what I call the “iPod Touch Breakdown“:
- Apps won’t start : the iPod would go back to the home screen after a few seconds.
- Music and Films disappear (My music consists essentially of personnal CDs).
- (for me Photos are still there)
- all original Apple Apps work OK
This is a known problem, also occuring on the iPhone with many posts on the iPhone discussions forum (see “iPhone“/“Installing and Using iPhone Applications“/“iPhone Applications no longer work“. At the time I write this messge, this question has been viewed 16,080 times ( ) (*) and there have been 319 replies: probably a sad record for a single question, which means that THERE REALLY IS A BASIC PROBLEM.
My iPod is a 8Gb purchased while staying in Pasadena, almost a year ago. I was extremely happy to use it more and more like a PDA (updates 2.0.1 and 2.0.2).
There have been some fixes proposed on the discussions forum (iPhone) that I tried and I have tried myself a couple more. NONE of them could fix the problem permanently: all fixes have been working for a day or two, no more. Untill you download an App (even an update) and you get the “Breakdown“ again.
As other users, I have noted a slowdown in anything I am doing (e.g. typing text) just before the Apps stop working and the music disappears. (see for instance Truth42 on iPhone Forum (Applications no longer work), Posted: Aug 25, 2008 10:57 AM)
Fixes: typically you get to disinstall and then reinstall all your Apps. Each time, you lose all your Apps parameters (bad for data bases and notes).
Two ways:

5- sync (will re-load your Apps)
6- sync (to backup you new configuation)
(the whole process may take several hours; I have also done a reboot between 3 and 4)

1- deselect all applications
2- sync
3- disconnect your iPod and reboot it (pressing both buttons simultaneously for several seconds – see Apple site) (you keep you parameters, WiFi, etc)
4- select the Apps you want back
5- sync (will re-load your Apps)
6- sync (to backup you new configuation)
In the end you can use the Apps you have reloaded, but just for a few days (or hours)… until you cannot resist downloading a new App, or simply just download an App update. It won’t breakdown instantly after you do that, but it will very soon.
I certainly would take any procedure to fix this definitely. However, the best choice is probably to use as few third party Apps as possible (none is better) and wait for 2.1. Hopefully Apple is working on this, and we’ll get a definite fix very soon. This actually makes a very bad press for the iPod Touch and iPhone.

So I plugged back in my iPod touch and,...
0. make a note of all your music, movies, photos, apps selections to restore
1. cancel connect attempt to iTunes store (little 'x' in iTunes toolbar)
2. cancel attempts to sync or backup (little 'x' in iTunes toolbar)
3. clicked <OPTION>[Restore] once selecting my iPod touch device
4. navigate to <home>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Udpates/
5. pick the prior update: iPod1,12.0.1_5B108Restore
6. then waited through iPod window status displays
'Preparing iPod software for restore...'
'Restoring iPod software...'
'Verifying iPod Software...'
7. OK the 'Your iPod has been restored to factory settings,...'
8. Ssync process did NOT automatically being so I unplugged & plugged it
(I did verify that 2.0.1 was loaded seeing the App Store)
9. Pick 'Set up as a new iPod'; don't pick an earlier backup point
(mostly 'cause I couldn't be sure which was a good failsafe).
10. iTunes then begin setup of my [ahem] new iPod.
STOP IT; it'll try and do restore everything. Then navigate the tabs for
your iPod and re-select those things you want (music,photos,movies,apps,etc)
So like any computer you need to keep proper backups.
The apple s/w system updater appears to do just that automatically, thanks! Of course it would've been nice to have had the 2.0.2 version tested a bit more before its release.
IMHO the host (mac) should have kept my prefs for the iPod rather than my resorting to handwritten notes but at least I'm back to normal. Consider when replacing an iPod how you'd want the replacement to be a mirror of its predecessor.
Oh, skip future requests to update to 2.0.2 until Apple can get his sorted out.

I am having the same problem as many of you. 3G iPhone. 2.0.2.
In the past 3 weeks I have had at least 5 if not 8-10 examples of loss of all iPod content and access to all apps. I know this happens on 2.0.2 and I know it happened at least a couple of times on 2.0.1. I am fairly certain that it never happened on 2.0.0.
This seems to happen EVERY time that the iPod crashes and reboots itself or when I force a hard reset. I haven't tried with a normal turn off/shut down in fear of having to go through this whole process again.
I have a solution that while not optimal works EVERY TIME!
1. Do a "reset all settings" from general settings. This will wipe out the set up of an exchange mail client, but not Yahoo, Gmail, or POP. While a pain this only takes a few minutes to reset up. It will not touch any app settings, high scores, etc. Additionally, all of your apps will need to reordered on the screen if you are like me and like certain ones to be on certain pages. Again, a pain, but this takes 5-10 minutes max for 4 pages worth of apps. Additionally, you will need to change any other personalized settings that you have set up (ring tones, favorites, brightness, etc.) At this point all iPod content will be back, but apps still won't work.
2. Go to the app store and download any app that you want. This will have you reinputing your username and password. Once this is compthe app is fully downloaded and installed you will have access to all of your apps again and your phone will work perfectly UNTIL THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. Note, during this step, I have done a hard reset multiple times and gone through a overly long Apple logo time frame (and sometimes even hard reset during the Apple logo again) but this has yet to have any ill effect. Once the phone comes back up all apps works and all iPod content is there.
Finally, I have now stopped downloading or updating apps directly from the phone if at all. As this often causes or requires a hard reset.
Generally I get one to two days before having to do this again.
Please know I am not suggest this is all OK and I am barely tolerating this as it should just get fixed, but this is pretty easy and while monotonous on the 5th+ time, it isn't that time consuming and has worked every time.

Downgrading to iTunes 7.7.0 following the steps in the link below has worked for me for about 12 days now.

It boggles my mind that with an issue like this so big that Apple STILL doesn't have a permanent fix for it yet.
