Hello Arun

But, service.sap.com is always there, you must read Notes too for any procedure and strategy for applying support packs or infact to do anything in SAP.

  • Authorizations  required for applying support packs

What authorizations do you require for applying support packs?

After u successfully downloaded the support pack from the service market place , the 1st authorization u need is for using the client 000.
Only with the client 000 u will be available to import the support pack (ABAP suppotr package) using transaction SPAM. To use all SPAM functions, you require the following authorizations:
    S_TRANSPRT
    S_CTS_ADMIN
If you log on in client 000, then your user master data contains the corresponding authorizations (inside the authorization profile) and you can use all the functions in Support Package Manager.
For Java u can use jspm tool for applying the support packages for any component and if u want to enhance or upgrade the java components( say from ESS 1.1 to ESS 1.2) then u can do it using sdm tool.
Before applying the pack u need to unpack the abap/java files using the commands in the command- prompt and copy the unpacked files into sap/sid/trans/eps/in folders of ur system.
Also before using the SPAM for abap support pack make sure that u had set ur system as the domain-controller in transaction stms with ddic user and masterpwd.

  • How to apply support pack

    Hi,
We are going to apply support pack.Currently we are on support pack SAP_HR & EA_HR 27.Can you please guide how we can check dependency while applying support pack 28 & 29.
Can any one please suggest the method of applying support pack.
    Regards
    Santosh

To Apply Support packs first up all you need to download the patches. When you have the downloaded the file i.e.. (*.car ) patch file then you can extract and apply it in two ways.
    1. Go to command prompt through cmd (if you are using windows) and go to the folder where you have download these files ( could be in <drive>\downloaded folder\ ) type this command on command prompt without quotes "sapcar -xvf <filename>.sar". Now it will create a folder called EPS and a folder called IN inside EPS. Go to this folder and it will show two extracted files with extension " .att " and " .pat ".  Copy this two files into yours trans\eps\in folder which could be something like <drive>\usr\sap\trans\eps\in folder. Then type spam on your session and navigate to Support Package\Load Package\From Application Server and it will ask for Path confirm it Say " YES"Select the patch imported and double click on it and then click on small truck Icon and it start Import.
    2. Type Spam on session then navigate to  Support Package\Load Package\From FrontEnd \ and Navigate to path where you have downloaded the *.SAR file of Support Pack. Now it will open a popup window and then click on decompress button ( It is front-End process for extracting or decompressing .sar file in .pat and .att extension ) After that click on Display-Define button on right hand side.) Select the BASIS or ABAP patch ( whichever you are applying *) what ever you are after and import it in queue. After that click on Small truck Icon in menu i.e.. (import Queue) and it Starts importing.

  • How to velify applying support packs SAP R/3 46C

    Hi,
I'm going to implement multiple support packs to our R/3 46C system.
Patch level will jump up over 10 levels to the latest level.
My point is the support packs have too many SAP Notes over 2000 to foresee possible impacts to our application area.....
Can you give me some hints about that from your experience?
I guess the impacts are confined to our ADD-ON parts (Namespace of Z, Y...). No inpact for SAP default parts.
    Thank you in advance.
    Y.Shirako

Hello Yuji, below is the answer to yourt questions.
    - Am I correct in assuming that there will not be big problems once corresponding SAP Notes in "Side-effect reports" are appl
(No problems will happen if support packs are implemeted with all pre requisites are met. From pre requisite i mean suppose for applying HR components you need some basic level of BASIS, Abap components.)
    - I plan to apply support packs via TCD:SPAM. Which time point should I consider SAPU and SPDD, before or after SPAM...?
(SPAU and SPDD will come during run of SPAM transaction when components are getting patched. That time you can call ADJUST MODIFICATIONS and later after completion of SPAM activity you can ask application team to do SPAU and SPDD which they will do in terms of transport request)
    Hope it addresses your query.

  • Apply support pack

    Dear Team,
I want to update all support pack (basis ,abap,App,HR ,SPAM and some  Addon   PI, ST-PI) . I am using ECC 6.0 with Oracle on HP UX.We have 3 System Landscape. How we should apply support pack.I ThinkFirst in QAS .Then I thing Our Functional  user will analyses on function activity in QAS Server. If all is OK .Then I go to DEV and last in PRD.
But at the time of Support Pack . We should lock all user except My User ID.
Please explain so that I can apply all patches in my landscape
    Thanks
    Manu

    Hi,
the role of the solution manager is for the approval of the patches.Unless you approve the patches, you are not able to download paches.
As you thought of applying the patches in QAS is good idea.Go ahead with that.
You need to lock the users while applying patches except your id.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Applying support packs, is there way to see all tables/view/clustered table

We are applying support packs, and they are taking awhile.   Upon review it looks like it's adding some fields to some tables/clustered tables.  Is there a way to see all the tables/views/cluster tables that were updated.  I know I can look at version management, but if somebody can point me to the base tables to look at and I can do an sql to sort them for what I am looking for.   I want to make the changes to the update tables ahead of time by adding the column at the end, so there's no need for a conversion.

    you can find all the changes in Transport requests logs as below ;
    PATH -> SAP******* -> you get package,general text,documentation,table,tabclecontents,porgram,view etc..
Plesae let me know if you have any questions?

    Hi,
If you have only one common transport directory then you have to uncar the files only once.
Uncar should be done once per transport directory.
Before performing the import of support packages if you have done any changes to standard sap programsthen you have to lock them in the reqests and while importing the support packages u have to perofrm spau and spdd adjustments any ways sap will allow you this prior to abap screen generation.
First you have apply the patches on test and then qa and then prd. Make sure you have recent spam/saint update installed.
Also perofrm a kernal upgrade after updating the spam/saint.
Perform a full and tlog backup before importing support pacakges.Because sap does not support uninstalling of support packages.

    Vamshi.

  • Experiences - Applying support packs to enhanced SAP Web Dynpro code

Just thought I might highlight some experiences we've had with applying support packs for XSS. (Reply if you have your own experiences or a proven better way)
Firstly, we are using Travel within XSS and have some significant developments to get this working globally.  Rightly or wrongly, we added our own DC's within the ESS application area and need to take this into account during support packs.
As advised by SAP, we have not directly applied the support pack source code to the modified track, but created a separate SPXX track which we manually need to reaply all of our changes.  It dissapoints me that SAP don't recommend doing what the help.sap.com states, but there must be a reason for this (supposedly the meta data tool not yet available in NW04 will address the main reason).
In order to get our custom DC's from the old track to the new; I needed to add all non-generated objects to an activity, connect SPXX-1 track to the SPXX track and transport all the way through to the approval stage to get it migrated (the connection can be terminated after this is done).  Again - Less than ideal, especially if you accidentally transport a generated file or miss a file.
Then for all SAP Web Dynpro changes, we've documented all changes to the nth degree and it's at this point we manually reapply the changes - taking into account any SAP changes that may have occurred.
I hope SAP promotes doing this a better way soon, but here's a process for anyone else needing to do this.
    Regards,
    Matt

As you stated the system without the context tab is NetWeaver 7.0.  The context tab and the extra wizards were new features in NetWeaver 7.0 Enhancement Package 1.  Your system would have to be updated to this NetWeaver Enhancement Package level in order to have this functionality.

  • How to remove newly applied support pack.

    Hi all,
i applied  support pack in my R/3  4.7 server.
if any procedure for remove already applied support pack.
    Regards.
    Satish

    thanks for the accolade
well... it´s true - and I highly appreciate it.
As you surely know, this IS a topic for SAP now for a
long time. Our hosting services face very similar
    problems than customer landscapes.
This "landscape management" was - afaik - at least
one of the good intentions behind new products like
    solution manager.
Anyhow - and this is my very personal view only and
of course in no way the view of SAP - these solutions
seem sometimes like "breaking a butterfly on a
    wheel"...
Not only that, it doesn´t help in those 1000 basic tasks like those mentioned, it even makes it worse, much worser, than any sqlplus statement can do harm to your system. Without wanting to step on someones toes and with all appropriate respect: It´s a typical prove for an example of highly educated academical but theoretical people  trying to solve practical problems -  It´s getting better, no doubt, but there´s still a pretty long way to go before it will really help.
I´m of the opinion: If SAP has the strategy "everything is in the database", then please give us tools to maintain that data, if you don´t want people to do that manually using database tools. A "maintenance optimizer" guided procedure is certainly nothing, that really helps
The CCC-situation is also something I'm aware of.
Saving maintenance fee on this way does come with a
different kind of costs, that's for sure.
    Full ack.
I also agree that for the overall solution at a
customers site it's not easy to get hold of a
    comprehensive, current and well accessible
documentation. All I can say about that is, that
people working on this topic to make the
    documentation more available to everybody.
The documentation is there, it´s just the vast amount of it killing brains.
If I as administrator need to keep all those things together, like dependencies between SPs, connections to other systems, codepage issues, printers and all that stuff you deal with every day, why can´t someone from SAP do the same? I mean, SAP expects administrators to do that, why don´t they do it on their own? There are of course tools to assist (System Landscape Manager, Self Diagnose etc.) - but they are all different, all have their own glitches and additional notes, patches etc. you have to deal with ON TOP of all to make them usable for you and they all have a pretty isolated view on an isolated problem.
As said before, all data is in the database, so use it
    A big
obstacle with that is surely that customer landscapes
differ widely and nearly all aspects.
...driven by customers? certainly not. You as SAP say "We don´t extend SD functionality any more, use CRM" and "we don´t extend purchase in ERP any more, use SRM" - but they totally forget to keep the customers able to manage those systems, interdependencies, spoken plain technically without even digging into the applications themselves. Example:
    - SRM needs a new SP
    --> dependency to a specific the PI_BASIS in R/3
    --> upgrading PI_BASIS needs a SPAM update
    --> SPAM update needs a new tp/R3trans
--> tp/R3trans needs a new SQLDBC/Oracle/DB2/libdb 1,000,000 notes - and finding them is impossible, you will probably do the "try-and-error" approach here because there´s simply no chance to get that information at once - because of "isolated problems", isolated groups and abstraction over abstraction.
I'm used to think of SAP solutions as a kind of
factories. Although you can actually buy factories
today for many standard production processes it's
likely that the one you get will differ from every
other factory. Documenting such a factory will always
    require individual changes.
    I don´t think so.
If you have an ERP, CRM and SRM system, they have some sort of connections between them, this is common on all scenarios and is nothing, that is customer specific. On one side you "force" customers to use new products, on the other side you have no tools on side to REALLY´maintain those systems in a landscape aside from a Solution Manager software, that itself needs more maintenance, more mandays of configuration and more nerves to configure than all our systems together when done manually.
And there´s stil no "support package rollback" function

  • Applying  support Pack in  test mode...

    Hi Guys,
I need to know can we apply support pack directly on production in test mode?
If yes, please give me the details of it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Abu

    Hi,
You can use the test scenario to determine if a modification adjustment is required before the Support Package is actually imported, or if any conflicts need to be resolved before the import. The test scenario does not import data into your SAP system.
Also please note that there is no test scenario for SPAM/SAINT updates. A SPAM/SAINT import ignores the scenario you select

  • Applying Support Packs

    Hello,
I am applying the support packs to my new test system.
is there a way where i can apply all Packs for Basis ABAP and HR at one go..instead doing that one at a time which consumes much time....
    kindly help
    thanks
    saurabh

    Hello Saurabh,
Please follow the steps as mentioned below :-
1> Lgin to Client 000 and Goto "SPAM"
2> In "Directory" choose "All Support Packages"
    3> Click on Display.
4> Expand the components like "SAP_BASIS" or "SAP_ABA",.........
5> Expand further and check if all the "Pre-requisites are fulfilled" by finding a tick mark for all requirements of packages maintained.
6> Then select the last package for that particular component "SAP_BASIS".
7> Right click and select "Define Queue".
8> It takes us to home page of "SPAM", where we can now see that all the packages to be imported has been defined in queue.
9> Click on "Import Queue" to start importing the support packages for that component and similary we can do for all the rest components.
Do let me know if this helped to resolve your problem.
    Thank you.

  • Applying Support Packs at GRC Access Control 5.3 overall solution level

    Hi All
I recently noticed something at a customer, that GRC Access Controls 5.3 launch pad shows a different SP level e.g. version8, while the components, Compliant User Provisioning shown SP10, RAR shown SP12 etc.
    My questions are;
    1. Should SP updates be applied at a component level i.e. at RAR, CUP, ERM, and SPM level?
    2. Would this customer scenario cause an issue in the future, when for example RAR is sitting on a different SP level than CUP etc.?
    3. If GRC Access Controls launch pad shows SP level/version, does this SP level/version represent the SP level/version that applies to all components?  or does this represent SP level/version of the launchpad only?
    4. Are the Support Packs required to be applied on the ABAP stack as well?
    Thanks
    Odwa

    Hi Odwa,
    Please see my replies below.
    1. Should SP updates be applied at a component level i.e. at RAR, CUP, ERM, and SPM level? NO, Just apply them to the entire GRC-AC from the JSPM
    2. Would this customer scenario cause an issue in the future, when for example RAR is sitting on a different SP level than CUP etc.? Yes, one of these days there is going to be a problem becuas eof this
    3. If GRC Access Controls launch pad shows SP level/version, does this SP level/version represent the SP level/version that applies to all components? or does this represent SP level/version of the launchpad only?
    4. Are the Support Packs required to be applied on the ABAP stack as well? Yes they need to be applied on all the ABAP stacks as well, it is very omportant that support packs remain in sync everywhere.
    Thanks!
