Applying Support Pack  taking Long time about 20 - 22 hrs per Patch.

Dear Gurus,
Recently we have upgraded from 4.7EE to ECC6.0, then we started applying Support Packs , and During the phase of  IMPORT_PROPER it is taking time like any thing.. Near about 20 - 22 hrs .. for all the patches.
we have scheduled it in the Background. ... will there be any difference if we load them in Dialog.
tp, r3trans are working fine.
entries are there in  PAT01,
Are there any Check points,  Buffer size values that are needed to meet the Min Size values.
In general what should be the Shared Poool, Swap, Virtual Memory value,Export/import buffer sizes ?
How can we Improve this Import Phase ????
OS : Solaris 10 :- RAM = 8 GB, 2 CPU Processor,
DB : Oracle 10.2.0.2
SAP: ECC 6.0, Rel 700,
Kernel : 700 , patch level 146.
SPAM : patch level 23.
Gurus Pl suggest me ... to overcome this issue.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks For your Prompt reply.

  • Support pack taking more time

    Dear Team,
When I am applying Basis Support pack KB70010 in my IDES.
It is executing last 4 hours  in Import Queue
    and bottum side is comming
    EXECUTING OF REPORTS  AFTER PUT.
    What to do Now.
    Manu

    Hi Manu,
did u saw what I posted in the last note:
    couple of things
    1. in SM50,is the background job doing some actions like updating, deleting or is it stuck up on one action only
    2. I would suggest you to login in 000 and check for all the scheduled and released jobs with R*.
If they are in released status just start them and I assure you ur support pack will run through
If these things dont help let me know

  • Hi in my sql query i applied like condition (like '%TEST') but it is taking long time

Hi in my sql query i applied like condition (like '%TEST') but it is taking long time. I applied indexes also, but still i'm facing the same problem. In my databse nearly 2,00,000 records their.

    Hi Manikandan
Is there a difference in performance between running the query in BEx and WebI?
have you aggregates in place on the BEx side of things?
When you say its taking too long to open the report, have you a variable screen coming up for the report and is that what is taking the time or is it the report execution.
    With regards
    Gill

  • This part of query is taking long time to run, its about 40 minutes. Can anyone help wit it.

As I am a developer I do not have the access to Sql profiler or tuning agent to optimize my query, I have used some joins over the temp table #HIHO which indeed pulling the records from table EDW_Source which has 5 million records, I also added Non clustered
indexes on prov_ID, SMG_ID and Incurred month for this table, but still it is taking longer time. Need help

  • How to remove newly applied support pack.

    Hi all,
i applied  support pack in my R/3  4.7 server.
if any procedure for remove already applied support pack.
    Regards.
    Satish

    thanks for the accolade
well... it´s true - and I highly appreciate it.
As you surely know, this IS a topic for SAP now for a
long time. Our hosting services face very similar
    problems than customer landscapes.
This "landscape management" was - afaik - at least
one of the good intentions behind new products like
    solution manager.
Anyhow - and this is my very personal view only and
of course in no way the view of SAP - these solutions
seem sometimes like "breaking a butterfly on a
    wheel"...
Not only that, it doesn´t help in those 1000 basic tasks like those mentioned, it even makes it worse, much worser, than any sqlplus statement can do harm to your system. Without wanting to step on someones toes and with all appropriate respect: It´s a typical prove for an example of highly educated academical but theoretical people  trying to solve practical problems -  It´s getting better, no doubt, but there´s still a pretty long way to go before it will really help.
I´m of the opinion: If SAP has the strategy "everything is in the database", then please give us tools to maintain that data, if you don´t want people to do that manually using database tools. A "maintenance optimizer" guided procedure is certainly nothing, that really helps
The CCC-situation is also something I'm aware of.
Saving maintenance fee on this way does come with a
different kind of costs, that's for sure.
    Full ack.
I also agree that for the overall solution at a
customers site it's not easy to get hold of a
    comprehensive, current and well accessible
documentation. All I can say about that is, that
people working on this topic to make the
    documentation more available to everybody.
The documentation is there, it´s just the vast amount of it killing brains.
If I as administrator need to keep all those things together, like dependencies between SPs, connections to other systems, codepage issues, printers and all that stuff you deal with every day, why can´t someone from SAP do the same? I mean, SAP expects administrators to do that, why don´t they do it on their own? There are of course tools to assist (System Landscape Manager, Self Diagnose etc.) - but they are all different, all have their own glitches and additional notes, patches etc. you have to deal with ON TOP of all to make them usable for you and they all have a pretty isolated view on an isolated problem.
As said before, all data is in the database, so use it
    A big
obstacle with that is surely that customer landscapes
differ widely and nearly all aspects.
...driven by customers? certainly not. You as SAP say "We don´t extend SD functionality any more, use CRM" and "we don´t extend purchase in ERP any more, use SRM" - but they totally forget to keep the customers able to manage those systems, interdependencies, spoken plain technically without even digging into the applications themselves. Example:
    - SRM needs a new SP
    --> dependency to a specific the PI_BASIS in R/3
    --> upgrading PI_BASIS needs a SPAM update
    --> SPAM update needs a new tp/R3trans
--> tp/R3trans needs a new SQLDBC/Oracle/DB2/libdb 1,000,000 notes - and finding them is impossible, you will probably do the "try-and-error" approach here because there´s simply no chance to get that information at once - because of "isolated problems", isolated groups and abstraction over abstraction.
I'm used to think of SAP solutions as a kind of
factories. Although you can actually buy factories
today for many standard production processes it's
likely that the one you get will differ from every
other factory. Documenting such a factory will always
    require individual changes.
    I don´t think so.
If you have an ERP, CRM and SRM system, they have some sort of connections between them, this is common on all scenarios and is nothing, that is customer specific. On one side you "force" customers to use new products, on the other side you have no tools on side to REALLY´maintain those systems in a landscape aside from a Solution Manager software, that itself needs more maintenance, more mandays of configuration and more nerves to configure than all our systems together when done manually.
And there´s stil no "support package rollback" function

  • The ODS activation is taking long time

    Hi,
We are on SAP NetWeaver BI 701 (Support Package 5).
We create a Z ODS, it will contain a lot of data (180.000.000 month-end) and we want to generate specific reports about it.
The activation is taking long time, I assume is because we checked the flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation". I am confused about this check. I really need it? is this check the only problem.
    Thanks for you help.
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria:
If your Z DSO is used only for staging purposes (you don't have queries based on this DSO and you send the data to another DSO or to an InfoCube) then you don't need to check the "SIDs Generation Upon Activation" box.
Even more, to achieve better performance during data loads in this scenario, you might consider using a Write Optimized DSO instead of a Standard DSO, but if you decide to take this alternative don't forget to select the "Do Not check Uniqueness of Data" box if you need to write several records with the same Semantic Key.

  • How to velify applying support packs SAP R/3 46C

    Hi,
I'm going to implement multiple support packs to our R/3 46C system.
Patch level will jump up over 10 levels to the latest level.
My point is the support packs have too many SAP Notes over 2000 to foresee possible impacts to our application area.....
Can you give me some hints about that from your experience?
I guess the impacts are confined to our ADD-ON parts (Namespace of Z, Y...). No inpact for SAP default parts.
    Thank you in advance.
    Y.Shirako

Hello Yuji, below is the answer to yourt questions.
    - Am I correct in assuming that there will not be big problems once corresponding SAP Notes in "Side-effect reports" are appl
(No problems will happen if support packs are implemeted with all pre requisites are met. From pre requisite i mean suppose for applying HR components you need some basic level of BASIS, Abap components.)
    - I plan to apply support packs via TCD:SPAM. Which time point should I consider SAPU and SPDD, before or after SPAM...?
(SPAU and SPDD will come during run of SPAM transaction when components are getting patched. That time you can call ADJUST MODIFICATIONS and later after completion of SPAM activity you can ask application team to do SPAU and SPDD which they will do in terms of transport request)
    Hope it addresses your query.

  • Applying support packs, is there way to see all tables/view/clustered table

We are applying support packs, and they are taking awhile.   Upon review it looks like it's adding some fields to some tables/clustered tables.  Is there a way to see all the tables/views/cluster tables that were updated.  I know I can look at version management, but if somebody can point me to the base tables to look at and I can do an sql to sort them for what I am looking for.   I want to make the changes to the update tables ahead of time by adding the column at the end, so there's no need for a conversion.

    you can find all the changes in Transport requests logs as below ;
    PATH -> SAP******* -> you get package,general text,documentation,table,tabclecontents,porgram,view etc..
Plesae let me know if you have any questions?

  • SSRS Reports taking long time to load

    Hello,
Problem : SSRS Reports taking long time to load
My System environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
    Production Environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
I have created a Parameterized report (6 parameters), it will fetch data from 1 table. table has 1 year and 6 months data,      I am selecting parameters for only 1 month (about 2500 records). It is taking almost 2 minutes and 30 seconds
    to load the report.
This report running efficiently in my system (report load takes only 5 to 6 seconds) but in
production it is taking 2 minutes 30 seconds.
I have checked the Execution log from production so I found the timing for
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)               Rendering (approx~)
    10 second                                      15 sec
                2 mins and 5 sec.
But Confusing point is that , if I run the same report at different time overall output time is same (approx) 2 min 30 sec but
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)                Rendering (approx~)
more than 1 min                            15 sec
    more than 1 min
so 1 question why timings are different ?
    My doubts are
    1) If query(procedure to retrieve the data) is the problem then it should take more time always,
    2) If Report structure is problem then rendering will also take same time (long time)
for this (2nd point) I checked on blog that Rendering depends on environment structure e.g. Network bandwidth, RAM, CPU Usage , Number of users accessing same report at a time.
So I did testing of report when no other user working on any report But failed (same result  output is 2 min 30 sec)
From network team I got the result is that there is no issue or overload in CPU usage or RAM also No issue in Network bandwidth.
Production Database Server and Report server are different (but in same network).
I checked that database server the SQL Server is using almost Full RAM (23 GB out of 24 GB)
I tried to allocate the memory to less amount up to 2GB (Trial solution I got from Blogs) but this on also failed.
one hint I got from colleague that , change the allocated memory setting from static memory to dynamic to SQL Server
(I guess above point is the same) I could not find that option Static and Dynamic memory setting.
    I did below steps
    Connected to SQL Server Instance
Right click on Instance go to properties, Go to Memory Tab
I found three options 1) Server Memory   2) Other memory   3) Section for "Configured values and Running values"
Then I tried to reduce Maximum  Server memory up to 2 GB (As mentioned above)
All trials failed, this issue I could not find the roots for this issue.
Can anyone please help (it's bit urgent).

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, your report takes too long to load on your production environment. Right?
In this scenario, since the report runs quickly in developing environment, we initially think it supposed to be the issue on data retrieval. However, based on the information in execution log, it takes longest time on rendering part. So we suggest you optimize
the report itself to reduce the time for rendering. Please refer to the link below:
My report takes too long to render
Here is another article about overall performance optimization for Reporting Services:
    Reporting Services Performance and Optimization
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Sales order creation, standard event trigger is taking long time .

We have a requirement where we are sending data to CRM system using RFC function module. This data is sent while sales order creation or change. We have used standard event BUS2032.CREATED to trigger CRM FM in sales order creation mode. In sales order change mode, we are using custom event. In production system, our custom change event is getting triggered fine and data is sent to CRM system with small time lag of around 1 minute. But, while sales order creation, standard event trigger is taking long time ( sometimes about 20 minutes) in production system.
We tried triggering same custom event at the time of sales order creation using FM u2018SWE_EVENT_CREATE_IN_UPD_TASKu2019 as well but, still we are not able to improve performance of the event trigger at sales order creation.
    Regards,
    Sushee Joshi

    HI,
we have written SWE_EVENT_CREATE in update task
I think instead of calling in update task simply call to function module CALL FUNCTION "SWE_EVENT_CREATE" might trigger the event immediately.. Did you try to check in this way..
    OR
And I also suggest you to check the entry in SWE2 txn with respect to your workflow tempalte, may be you have enable the option ENABLE EVENT QUEUE, this could be one of the reasons.. If it is enabled please disable it (uncheck)
    Please check..

    Hi
In last couple of weeks, we are experience the delay for master dataload job. These dataload should take 5-8 minute to complete but it is taking more then 5 hour to complete. here we are using process chain for master dataload.
Any idea? We don't understand where to start to check the root cause of this problem.
    Regards
    Amar

    Hi Freinds
Some update of our master dataload. Still not resolved.
Seem to me, our problem is related to Hierarchy in BW server. It is taking long time to update the hierarchy in BW server. As i told you, problem occur only when loading master dataload. For transaction dataload, no IDOC get stuck in R/3 (NPR) server. There are enough resources in both R/3 and BW server for trfc.
There are total 9 hierarchy in the master dataload that is delaying in the process for update. If you have seen this type of problem for the following hierarchy, pls update me.

  • Sapinst taking long time to load

    Hello experts,
    we are installing sapnw730 PI.
we have noticed that the SAPinst taking long time to load ( near about 45 mins) for every time.
Once sapinst starts we dont find any slowness during the installation and the system behaves quite normal.
On the same host we installed sapnw7.1 BI, that took very less time to load.
Any clues to reduce the SAPinst load time ? , anyone encounter this error before?
system  details : SUN Solaris SPARC with 8GB RAM and no other instances running on the host.
    thanks  in advance

We have enough memory (8 GB Ram)
we have monitored other process and CPU usage during SAPinst run time.
our CPU utilization was 50 % only during SAPinst
    Any other clues ??
    Thanks

    Hi All,
i am extracting the data from ECC To BI Syatem..but Data Loading Taking Long time. from last   6 hoursinfopackage is running.still it is showing yellow.Manually i made the red.and delete again i applied repeat of the last delta.but same proble is coming .in the status job is showing bckground job is not finished at source system.we requested to basis.basis people killed that job.again we schedule the chain also again same problem is coming.how can i solve this issue.
    Thanks ,
    chandu

    Hi,
There are different places to track your job. Once your job is triggered in BW, you can track your load job where exactly it is taking more time and why. Follow below steps:
    1) After InfoPackage is triggered, then take the request number and go to source system to check your extraction job status.
You can get the job status by taking the request number from BW and go to transaction SM37 in ECC. Then give the request number with begining '' and ending ''.  Also give '*' to user name.
    Job name:  REQ_XXXXXX
    User Name: *
Check the job status whether job is completed or cancelled or short dump. If the job is still running check in SM66 whether you can see any process. If not accordingly you got to check in ST22 or SM21 in ECC. If the job is complete, then the same in BW side now.
    2) Check the data arrived in PSA, if not check whether Transfer routines or start routines are having bad SQL or code. Similarly in update rules.
    3) Once it is through in Source system (ECC), Transfer rules , Update Rules, then the next task is updating the data might some time take more time which might be based on some parameters ( Number of parallel process to update database ). Check whether updating the database is taking more time and may be you got to check with the DBA guy also.
At all the times you should see minimum of atleast once process running all the time in SM66 till the time your job gets complete. If not you will see a log in ST22.
Let me know if you still have questions.
Assigning points is the only way of saying thanks in SDN.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.
