ARD - Enable Root and Set Password

Is there a way to enable root through ARD using a unix command? I need to set root on a couple hundred computers rather quickly.
I tried using the commands below and it failed I think because I needed to confirm the password.
sudo passwd root
password

Well, I've gone round and round with this and have been unable to find a working solution. dsenableroot should in theory work, but it fails on my system under ARD (either it lies and reports that the root was enabled when it wasn't, or it reports failure to enable). If you want to give it a try, though, here's the syntax that in theory should work (it does in Terminal on the workstation):
dsenableroot -u youradminusersname -p thatuserspassword -r therootpassword
with the command sent as a user with admin privileges.
May I ask why you feel you need to enable the root user on a couple of hundred systems? This is normally a really risky thing to do. Perhaps if we understand what it is you need to accomplish, we can come up with a different way of achieving the same thing.

Can't set password for Root account

I have rebuilt my macbook from scratch not from a backup , I then opened Terminal and typed sudo passwd root (got the message) entered a password, I got Sorry try again. tryed again same thing, I definately reinstalled from scratch therefore my root password should have been empty. in Solaris 10 i need auditing process create, delete, privilege escalation, set and change password and etc... from users account and group.
I set settings:
in file syslog.conf:

Now I see in the logs only the fact of a connection via SSH and run processes on behalf of users. Creation. delete users, change passwords for some reason do not is logged.
Many users. For each individual write permissions in the file /etc/security/audit_user not possible, it is likely to forget any new user (or there is a possibility in this file one line to describe the audits for all accounts?)

You are most likely hitting Bug 15779000 user/role/groupadd/mod/del don't audit their use.
And the fix is only available in S11.2.

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist -> NetworkServices -> 46A40FA8-6E7C-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx -> Proxies -> HTTP(S)Enable -> should be set to 1
I immdediately thought of using defaults write to carry this out in the command line but I don't know how (or if at all!) that works with multi-level key/values. I only have access to the first level (NetworkServices) with defaults read.

The networksetup utility is the program OS X uses to change the network configuration. The Network Preference Pane in system preferences is just a front end to networksetup; networksetup can do everything the preference pane can do (and possibly more).
The parameters you are interested in (from the man page):
-getwebproxy networkservice
Displays Web proxy (server, port, enabled value) info for <networkservice>.
-setwebproxy networkservice domain portnumber authenticated username password
Set Web proxy for <networkservice> with <domain> and <port number>. Turns proxy on. Optionally, specify <on> or <off> for <authenticated> to enable and disable authenticated proxy support. Specify <username> and <password> if you turn authenticated proxy support on.

I am writting an application in java which uses JNI and a screen saver to lock users out of the computer unless they enter the correct username and password.
If they enter the correct password I need to Enable the ScreenSaver at a specific about of time (time can be changed remotely) so I can "log out" the user.
I need to disable the screen saver after the screen saver runs so that it doesn't run while the java login program is running.
I have this working already on Windows XP but can't find any way to program this on Mac OS X.

I had always been under the impression that when content protection is enabled on a device and an admin sends the "set password and lock" functionality from the BlackBerry Manager, it only works with device OS v 4.5 and above. However, I was able to successfully execute it on a Sprint Curve with version 4.3.0.127 and with content protection enabled. How can this be?

I'm trying to recover the network password for my Time Capsule so that I can connect another device (a PC) to it. I have my Macbook pro set to connect automatically and the password is hidden. How can I find out what it is.

My issue is that I'm trying to connect a PC to my wireless network run off of a Time capsule/airport router. My macbook pro connects fine but the network password is hidden and set to autoconnect. I thought I wrote the password down but when I try to connect the PC laptop and type in the timecapsule network PW is doesn't work. Trying to verify if the passwird I wrote down is correct but there doesn't seem to be a way to recover this.
Does anyone out there in the community know how to do this? (or do I just have to do a reset on the time capsule

You can set up your iCloud account on your iOS device under: "Settings > iCloud" and a other account for store purchases under "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Unfortunately merging accounts is not possible but you could transfer all of your music manually via iTunes from your Mac or PC.

Update on my problem connecting in Itunes with my Airport Express. Not sure if anything I tried made a difference
but I finally got the Pop up window saying this device requires a Password. I entered the password and I can once again use the Airport Express as a remote speaker.

Any advice welcome.

To clear to old before passing it on, open the Settings app and tap on General (left hand menu). Scroll down and tap on settings, then tap on Erase All Content and Settings.
If you have been synching the iPad to iTunes on a computer, you should also have backed it up. If you havn't backed it, you will want to do so before clearing the settings and use the back up to set up your new iPad.
