Are any of you using Daisy Pipeline to create Daisy books?

Kind of off topic. Sorry, I know, but I'm desperate. If anyone here has successfully created a Daisy book from an xml file with Daisy Pipeline on the Mac, I would sure love to hear how you did it. I'm getting nowhere.
I'm exporting from Open Office using the Odtb2book add-on and I've also tried exporting from InDesign using Export for Digital Editions and selecting DTBook. I can't do anything in Daisy Pipeline with the ePub file from InDesign (why is it ePub when I selected DTBook?), and the xml file exported from Open Office acts like it's going to work when I select Daisy Book TTS Narrator in Pipeline, but then I get an error saying, "Failed To Speak" (and then it lists the first line of text and stops working). I do have the LAME encoder installed and the path setup correctly to it in Daisy Pipeline preferences, but nothing is working.
Needless to say I'm very confused and frustrated and kind of surprised it's this convoluted and difficult (or maybe I'm just making it that way). I've been all over the www looking for answers and I've tried every suggestion I've found with no success.
If you have experience with this, or have any ideas for me, please have mercy and let me know. Hopefully this post will not be deleted.
Thank you.

Just thought I'd post an update in case anyone else has a problem with this not working. It's not easy configuring all this stuff, or even knowing what you need to configure, if you've never done it before. Or, if you're like me, you foget how to do it in five day's time, unless it's a task you do just about every day.
All is working now. Romain (one of the developers of Daisy Pipeline) did an excellent (and patient) job in troubleshooting and figuring out the cause. I didn't have the Xcode system tools installed, though I thought I did. He also got me going with Macports which made things a lot easier, after I got over my fear of it.
Thank you, Romain!!!

I would like to know if there are any classes in using the iphone in the South Bay area (around Torrance) of Los Angeles County?

Apple stores have classes, look online for the Apple store closest to you & their schedules. Here's Apple's free iPhone app to do so right on your phone:

  • Can you use iBooks Author to create for Newsstand

Hi.If you create a book or magazine with iBooks Author can you then put it on Newsstand as well or would it need to be in a different format? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you'd need to not only pay the annual USD$99 fee, you'd need to either have or develop the necessary skils....it's not what I would call a trivial effort, tho, so be prepared for a steep learning curve.
The term 'app' is a general term for iOS applications, which can take many forms. An app that specifically targets Newsstand on your device would be configured by a dev to tell iOS about itself, etc. so that it works as intended. In general terms, the work to get it into the store is the same as any other app, but again, it won't reside on the homescreen on it's own...it will be found inside Newsstand the app.

  • Using other apps to create iphoto book

I want to use indesign to create an iphoto book - just to give me some more control over text, layout etc. What are the dimensions of the page in the softcover book?

one thing I forgot to mention is that I'm in Australia and my only option is to burn the final pdf file to disc and post it off to the printer. While this could be seen as a hassle - it does allow me the added luxury of using other software to produce the book in - giving me additional options on layout etc. What I want to know is how much I should allow for the binding on the page. I have printed out pages on a dummy copy I have made in iphoto and the print comes out at 20 cm x 14.8 cm - which is a bit smaller than the 8 x 6 spec they mention on the specs for the soft cover. So I'm assuming that the additional .5 cm is for binding the book?

  • Have any of you used "stills" inserted into your project? Are there copy right requirements?

Thank you for any help in advance.

    Tom,
Thank you for your reply.  What I am asking is if it is out on the internet, like a news image, do I need to get permission?  If so, have you ever done that?  Also, sorry for all the questions, what format should the still be in to insert best into the project timeline?
    Thank you again,

  • What are some of you using as a word substitute?

    OpenOffice? NeoOffice?
I need a word processor that will at least work with .doc files until these two programs create an intel version.
Really can't afford to buy Office right now....what do you guys use for this?

I have used OpenOffice in the past and it works fine as a wordprocessor. You can open and save doc files, so it should do the trick for you.
It works in both Mach with IBM and intel processor (see the link)

  • What imprt settings are most of you using?

I have an iPod but my wife just has a smaller MP3 for taking to the gym. Is there a setting to import CDs with that is better for using different MP3 players or should I imprt mine as AAC and hers as MP3 files?

If you want compatability between players, it is best to import all CDs as MP3.

  • Can you use Google SketchUp to create 3D models for Motion

Can Google's SketchUp Pro be used to create 3D models for use in Motion?
I'm having problems finding the file types that SketchUp produces and Motion requires.
Thanks for any help in this.

Zaxwerks Pro Animator does a pretty good job of creating a 2 3/4D models.   That is it appears to be 3D as you move around the object until you cross the objects plane. Then it looks 2D.   Kinda like moving around particles that are set to 3D.
ProAnimator would be alright but it's rather difficult to texture and I was just wondering if SketchUp Pro would be importable into Motion.
    Thanks for the responce.

  • I have Lion and I have an iPad.  The contacts on the two machines are not properly linked using iCloud (I can create groups and add names, but sometimes the names are not updated between the machines)

The problem I am seeing is that there are contacts on the iPad that are not showing up on the Mac

On the iPad, look in contacts and see if you have more than one group.  If it says "all contacts" on the top and there is no red slash to chose lists, then you have just one group.  If you see the slash and can choose contact groups, then obviously you have more than one.  You probably have a mail account on the iPad setup for contacts and iCloud also setup for contacts.
Go to that mail account on your computer and export those contacts to a vCard file, and import that to iCloud contacts (using the web interface for each).  Now with one list, turn contacts off for that account on your iPad so you don't see duplicates.

  • Any way to use the slideshow in the iphoto "Book"?

    Hi All,
Currently, I want to edit slideshows and burn into IDVD. But I prefer the slideshow preview from iphoto "Book" which can edit more comments and slideshow function. Is it any way to select the slideshow from iphoto "book"? rather than just using the single function from the iphoto slideshow (which is not dynamic enough)... please help
    Thanks!
    Wymond

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can create an iDVD slideshow of a book. It's relatively easy. It's described in Old Toad's Tutorial #6 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.. I create one for every book I buy. A great way for a group of people to view the book at once.

  • CAN YOU ADD NEW PHOTOS AFTER CREATING A BOOK?

I finished making a book on iPhoto, but realized there were still some photos that i wanted to add. Is there any way that i can do this?

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Are there any differences between using Adobe Illustrator on a MAC and on a PC?

    Hello,
I'm about go enroll in a class specialized for teaching Adobe Illustrator in order to be able to use the program at work.  The company that I work at uses Macintosh computers to deal with clerical work and everything, so I would like to know if there are any differences between using Adobe Ilustrator on a MAC and on a PC.  The school that offers training teaches two types of classes, where one uses Illustrator on a MAC, and the other one on a PC.  The PC class is able to have an earlier start date, which is why I'm sort of leaning towards choosing that class as I need to be able to use the software as soon as possible, but if there are main differences between the interface that will affect my knowledge of using Illustrator on a MAC after I take the class with Windows systems, then I will most likely be waiting for the class teaching in MAC systems.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Oh and another suggestion- should I take the Illustrator class in CS6 or CS5?

Reading through the CS5 vs CS6 performance thread, the Mac version seems to have worse performance than Windows version.  From a starter's perspective the differences would most likely never be realized.  It will take some time to see differences between even CS5 and CS6 other than the visual aspect of course.
Definitely take the CS6 versionso you can say you have it.  CS5 is my preferred version, CS6 is garbage with the bugs it has for the type of work I use it for.

  • Are You Using Spiceworks Network Monitor?

Are any of you guys using the Spiceworks Network Monitor? I've had it running for about a week now and it's been quite eye-opening. Being a small dept, we do a lot of "set and forget" setups, so it's nice to have something that monitors all of these little installs and servers that we otherwise don't pay much attention to.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

Standard Def CRT production monitors with a blue only button on them are still available at a reasonalbe price. But if you're talking HD, LCD's have taken over the landscape pretty much (except for some CRT's from Sony that cost a TON of money)... You'll need a capture card or an Io HD to see it all externally, unless you're only talking HDV... that you could use a less expensive solution for...
DV can be monitored externally for the least amout of investment if you have a DV camera, you can send it FW DV, then send the analog outputs from a DV camera to a CRT.
LCD monitors though are close enough for a lot of applications... those with a blue only switch work pretty well actually. Panasonic's 17 and 26" LCD's are quite nice monitors I think.
Matrox's MXO should allow you to use a 23" Cinema Display as a monitor, but I've heard of problems with it and Color... so might just wait if that's the solution that works for you. They work really well now with the other apps...

  • Is there any way to use Internet Explorer on a Mac? I have one insurance company that I do business with that you must use internet explorer

Is  there any way to use Internet Explorer on a Mac Book Pro? I have one company that I do business with that only uses Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer is not available for Mac.
But you can make Safari pretend to be Internet Explorer in some cases.
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop, move mouse down to "User Agent".
Select Internet Explorer from popup on the rightside.
After using Internet Explorer, revert back to Safari, doing the same routine.
