Are rented movies going to be available?

I've had my apple tv for a few weeks now and I thought had mostly worked the kinks out of it and my understanding of it. However, last night (Saturday night) I attempted to view a movie I had rented about 10 days ago and got nothing but a white screen. When I rented the movie, I had observed its 100% download. I'm new to the service, but I was able to view the first movie I rented.
Now the itunes people will probably do something that they think makes things right, but; Saturday night is gone. The question is, if Apple can't be depended on to meet their commitments, what use is the service? Do you dare cancel Netflix? Do you get the Netflix download system as well or do you just go back to snale mail and Blockbusters?

You can also restart the Apple TV by holding down the "-" and "menu" buttons on the Apple TV remote for about 3 to 5 seconds, or until the Apple TV powers off and the white status light blinks amber (yellow). After a few seconds you will get a language menu. After you select your language preference you will get 3 options and Restart is the first one (last time I checked ). OF COURSE, I am assuming that when you get the white screen issue that the Apple TV is not locked up and is fully responsive to the remote. I have apparently been lucky enough to not have the white screen issue yet but thought I would mention this restart information since everytime I plug my Apple TV in it makes an uncomfortable popping sound... plus i don't have to get off the sofa!

an old subject I know, but when are TV episodes going to be available in the iTunes Ireland store? I spend a phenomenal amount on apple music and movies, and expect access to all medium available via the store, including TV episodes. Where on earth do you post this question in order for someone from Apple to respond?

I am sure that this is frustrating, but there is no information to be had.
The fact remains that no one at Apple is going to tell you anything at all that they have not announced. The way they let people know what is going on is by announcing it. If they have not announced it, then there is no way to know.

It would be nice to be able to just have you apps on the apple tv. I know there is the mirror function but still.

Apple has not accounced or even hinted at doing anything like that. Even if you could how would you use them? ATV has no touch pad or touch screen to interface with them. So what would you do once they were installed. You would not even be able to start the apps you installed.

No, whether a film is available for renting and/or buying (and whether it's in HD and/or SD format) is the choice of the film studio, they set how each of their films is available.

I recently purchased an Apple TV and was disapointed to find out i am unable to rent movie's. When will this become availablt in Australia?

FYI. I am currently using the US itunes store to put content on my apple tv (I am in Melbourne currently).
The US store gives you access to movies (inc HD) and TV Shows. I bought the seasons pass's to Scrubs, Stargate atlantis, America's top model (the wife nagged me for it) and they download when new episodes are available. (I have to look for new purchases to have them download though).
I can also purchase movies and tv shows from the apple tv itself. I did that with a new US series called Eli Stone and the show was ready to watch within 10 mins of purchase. (It downloaded the rest while I was watching it).
To do this you need a US Itunes Account. I got mine while in the US but you should be able to get one somehow. Perhaps through Ebay? You can certainly by US Itunes gift vouchers through ebay to top up your account if you dont have a US credit card.
Anyway, You can always put your own content on the box. There are many programs that will allow you to convert files or DVD's and put them on your apple tv. I can suggest a mix of AnyDVD and CloneDVDMobile (which has an apple TV option of converting a dvd to 720s408, 856x480 or 1280x720.
I will probably head back to the US at the end of the year and will be taking the appletv with me even though I bought it here in Melb. I wont be taking my dvd's back but convert them and put them onto hard drive and sync when I want to watch them.
I am looking forward to when aussie shows are out on itunes so that when I am in the states I will purchase and download those via my Australin Itunes account.

I can't download tv shows or rented movies. My iPad indicates that I have 1.3 GB available and even though the downloads are less than that, the movies and tv shows will not download and the message I get says I don't have enough available storage.

Also, I bought additional storage but it shows up in iCloud and does not alleviate the need for additional storage for videos. What can I do to get additional storage to download rented movies and tv shows?

In General you need 2 to 3 times the Space of the Download File size.
If you are getting the Not Enough Space message... you will need to Delete items to create sufficent space

Prior to going you can rent and download them on your iPad via its iTunes store app, or rent and download them on your computer's iTunes and connect and your iPad and move them to it - they will go in the iPad's Videos app.
Some people have posted that they need to start playing rentals whilst they still have internet connection, so you may want to watch a few seconds prior to going offline - you have 24 hours if you are in the US, 48 hours elsewhere, after starting to watch a rental before it expires.

I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" > tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select "done", in the upper right corner
sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the security questions.
At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

How do i get rid of old rented movies that are a week over due when it was only a one day rental?

hi, i have been trying to get rid of my rented movies that keep wanting to download and they are using up all my space on the ipod. because of this i have to restore my ipod every time i try to use it because of the two movies "The Proposal" and "Me, Myself, and Irene" and it is keeping me from watching a newly rented movie "Beowulf". i would like it if the two movies "The Proposal" and "Me,Myself, and Irene" were wiped off of my account so that i mat proceed with watching my other movies. this has been a hassle for me long enough. so please take the first two movies i mentioned off of my downlods list on my itunes account but not "Beowulf". thank you.

Are $.99 movies available for 1080p downloads? Have early 2013 13 inch retina pro and can download all other HD content with no problem.The movie in quetion is Lawless.

No, once a user has been created, you can't run Setup Assistant (without erasing and reinstalling).

Here's what's happened:
When you first start up a Mac and create the first user account, OSX assigns it UID (User ID) #501. The next one gets #502, etc. Those UIDs (not the user name) are what control permission to files.
You can see those numbers via System Prefs > Users & Groups; click the padlock and enter your Admin password, then select an account and right-click it, and select Advanced Options. Do not change anything on that window.
So . . . assume your old iMac had a user 501 with the data you want; it's identified that way on the backups.
When the Apple Store started up your new Mac, and created their account, it became #501.
When you used Migration Assistant to transfer the 501 account from the iMac's backups, OSX copied everything there "as is" except it had to change the 501 to 502.
The new 502 account has all the right permissions to things now in it's home folder, but the backups belong to user 501.
Have you added much to the Mac since you did the migration? Have you done any new backups? If not, while it's a bit of a hassle, one fix would be to create yet another user account temporarily. Make it an Admin account. Log on to it and delete all the other accounts. Then migrate the accounts from your backups; this time there won't be a conflict, so OSX won't have to change the UUID(s).
But if you have done new backups, this won't work, since Migration Assistant automatically uses the most recent backup. There's a way around that, but it's a bit (or more) tedious.

When watching a rented movie from the iTunes Store, do I have to have an Internet connection in order to watch the movie? For example in airplane mode or when offline would I be able to view the rented movie?

If you rented the movies, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
