Are the Yellow banding iMac problems fixed?

I read the posts about the iMac screen flickering, tearing, and having yellow bands on it. I haven't been able to find anything though that says the problem has been resolved. Are the iMacs safe to buy now?
Thanks

I just purchased a new 27" i7 iMac last Month and the screen is flawless. I'd say it's safe to buy...Unless you want to wait for the iMac refresh that may be coming up soon..

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

he advises restarting by inserting the OSX disc and pressing down the C button to reboot from there then selecting disk utility, hard disk and repair.... Does he mean me to hold down the C key on the alpha keyboard or the ctrl key?
Should I just ask for my money back??? If it is a simple repair do I just literally push the disc in, push the power button and hold down the C button?
That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • When are the "education" cheaper iMacs hiting the market ?

    Hi there,
I'm actually planning on getting the iMac 20, but the news about the price reduction of the 17" for Students, etc. made me wet my pants out of happines.
I just checked now and in the Education store the prices are still the same.
When are the new prices for the 17" iMacs going to be available ?
Any guess about the 20" iMac getting a price reduction as well ?
That would be a heck of a x-mas gift from Mac to compete against the new Vista PCs end of the year.
    Cheers! cj.

    So.... then what ?
On that Link(article) is even more confusing cuz it starts saying it was pulled out... blah, blah, blah and ends saying is available through the Apple Education Store, who many here already confirmed it is not!
Are we all getting locos? or maybe Appl has its PMS and doesn't know what to do with the whole thing.
Maybe after so much interest they pulled it out and they are waiting for end of year sales to put it again and compete with the new Vista PCs...
...i know i keep up with my "Hope Apple give us a great deal by x-mas to convince us of buying a Mac and not a new Vista PC" conspiration theory.
But hey.... we all can dream, right?!

  • Where are the Garage Band Jam Pack Files Stored?

Hi all. I am new to mac's so feel a bit lost.
I just installed the Rhythm Section Jam Pack to use with GB. They are supposed to be AIF Files (according to the box). I looked in HD>Library>Audio>Apple Loops and all I found was .caf files. I have a new white macbook with iLife 09. Are the above mentioned .caf files the ones that came with iLife 09? Are the AIFF Jam Pack files that I installed from the disk stored somewhere else?
    Many Thanks

  • Here are the instructions on how to fix the newest update problem with the .dll error message:, Here are the instructions on how to fix the newest update problem with the .dll error message:

Go to My Computer, Uninstall Programs, and uninstall in this exact order :
          Itunes
          Apples Software Update
         Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour (my system required a reboot on this one)
         Apple Application Support
Reboot your computer, go to the official Itunes website (make sure it's the Apple Itunes Website and not some other one!), and reinstall Itunes.
I got the same .dll error message after the reinstall, but my Itunes was downloaded successfully and I was able to Sync my phone. : )
Good luck to you and God Bless!
(Sad that we have to come to the Discussion Forum to figure this all out instead of Apple taking care of their business and helping us out, huh?)

Someone else said they did a system restore to a previous update, and then a java update and that worked for them, saying they were going to stick with the earlier version of itunes until they get the bugs out of the new one.  I t tried restores and that didn't work for me either, but maybe it will work for you.  Good luck and I hope you get it working soon..

  • Is the N8-00 manufacturing problem fixed? When wil...

I am very much interested in the N8, but after the known problem of the big perecentage of defective units, I don't risk to buy it, especially after the very bad experience I have had with my current phone, the N97. Niklas Salvander said that this was a hardware problem, originating from bad assembly ("it's the way we assemble the engines", he said), so it will not be fixed with future firmware updates, and if it does it will only be covered by them; the hardware problem will still be there. Therefore, with that information I am not confident to buy it now, especially after all those issues that I have experienced with the N97.
What I need to know is exactly what kind problem that was (I would like to be given as many details as possible, as I am an electrical engineer and I am able to understand them), and what measures you have taken to eliminate it. From my knowledge, I can figure out that the problems of slow speed, quick battery drain, hight temperature and continuous restarts are connected to each other. All of them are probably the manifestation of the same problem, maybe a current leakage in some curcuit.
So please, announce the exact nature of the problem and how you have tackled with it, together with the date that you did it and the date that the error-free devices are expected to hit the market, otherwise you will lose many potential customers of that fantastic device and dissapoint equally many of them that will buy a defective device, with most of them assuming that this is the standard operation of the N8. You should do something, not only for your potential customers but for your company's image too. Please, don't let the N8 be another N97 and don't dissapoint your customers once again. We don't have much patience left.

PS. Why not to be just honest with your customers? What about corp.openness? What about Siemens once getting out of mobile biz straight after their S65 epic failure that they chose to silence? S65 was turning down by itself when squeezed in owner's hand due to hardware design error. Me personally, I suffered from that bug. The set was never repaired nor replaced and still rests in piece on a shelf in my house - as a recollection of a dishonest corporate behaviour.  Siemens never acknowledged the bug officially, just closed its mobile branch outright.

  • Are the new 27" iMacs showing up in the Apple Stores yet?

Impoosible to call a store ask someone if they have any available for purchase. I am just looking for a plain stock unit but I would like to spend the money this year so ordering doesn't look like an option.

    seventy one wrote:
There has been no formal announcement of the availablilty of the 27" iMac. As you may know, there have been reports of production difficulties and suggestions of a late December availability.  No-one actually knows.
Mine is scheduled to be delivered Monday.  It departed Anchorage two days ago.  I'm sure there are others getting theirs today and tomorrow, too, as I didn't order mine until late in the day on the 30th.
As to when they are available in a quantity sufficient to stock the stores, I agree with seventy one---anyone who knows for sure isn't talking.

  • When are the glitches going to be fixed??

I am seriously thinking about returning the BBz10 and returning to Android based phone. Since 0800 today, my phone has shut off and rebooted about 10 times and it is only 1330 now! Yesterday it did the same thing. I had this issue before with my other Z10 (which, by the way, decided to completely die and needed to be replaced) and then I did the update (10.1.0.2039 that was to fix the issues!). That lasted all of about 3 weeks! Now, mind you, I am a die hard BB fan and love the phones but now I am trully thinking about returning to the Android OS and to be done with these issues with the BBz10. I am tired of all the issues that it keeps having. One thing that really gets to me in the fact that when the phone reboots (spontaneously) it decides that it is going to remove my contacts. Then it reboots, they get added back more than once!

Many of the issues in your posts are not "glitches" but changes to the platform made by eBay.ca For more information, take a look at today's "weekly hour" and you will find answers to many of your questions: http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Weekly-Board-Hour-Session/July-29th-2015-Weekly-Board-Hour/m-p/308506#U308506

  • Is the saving in .ai problem fixed in CS5?

I am one of hundreds if not thousands of people who could no longer save .ai images in Illustrator after getting automatic Adobe updates in October 2009.
I spent months try to resolve the problem - trying every method suggested by Illustrator professionals on all the Illustrator forums, and none of them worked -reinstalling illustrator, deleting preferences, deinstalling acrobat, shutting down the windows media center etc. One thing I noticed is that most of the people who had the problem either had Sony Vaios (as I have) or Dell Inspirons - and in fact, several people with Sony Vaios said that last fall's automatic updates by Adobe were incompatible with Sony Vaios and responsible for preventing Illustrator from saving in many file formats, notably .ai. What is so frustrating is that I teach Illustrator at several schools, and since I can't save images as .ai files, I have to keep providing files in other formats and working in other formats and explaining to students about the .ai problem on many computers.
ANYWAY I'm about to upgrade to CS5. And I'm about to get a new computer -- another Sony Vaio (but with Windows 7) since I'm totally happy with the computer except in regard to the Illustrator issue and get excellent onsite for the Vaios locally.
****What I'm wondering is that if people who were unable to save illustrator files in .ai format in CS3 or CS4 since the updates last October are able to save it in CS5. *****
Anyone out there who had this issue who is finding it resolved with CS5?
If not, I'm going to have to rethink my teaching and start dropping my Illustrator classes and focus more intensively on Photoshop. Illustrator is an expensive program with a high learning curve, and should be configured so that everyone can save in its native file format.

  • Rogers and Shaw ISP are the cause of iTunes Problems

    Hi Everyone,
Over the past month Rogers (ISP) in Canada has put some software on their networks that prevents activity for BitTorrents, P2P, IRC, and also along with that is a rule that if you are trying to download a large media file from more then 1 server it will be dropped. When you download a Podcast from iTunes it downloads that file from multiple servers in the background (I confirmed this by watching my cable modem logs). As soon as it tries to use more than 2 different servers for the download, it just stops. That's the reason why Podcast downloads stop at random places - it's the point where a 2nd server is involved in the download. The same issue causes timeouts and cut-offs in the iTunes music store.
Here is the problem - when anyone calls Rogers about the problem they say it is either a router, firewall or Apple problem and they shrug you off.
Hundreds or thousands of people in Canada can no longer get Podcasts or purchase music from the iTunes Music store. This is BAD. Please, Apple, contact Rogers and sort it out. So many people have called Rogers with no luck.
It took a while to find out the problem and a lot of people have no idea what is going on. It isn't related to iTunes 6 - it just happened that Rogers made this change at about the same time as the iTunes 6 release.
    [email protected]

I'm also experiencing the same problems using Rogers High-speed here in west Toronto.
If Mr. Brace's assertion is correct then it's absolutely unacceptable for Rogers to just arbitrarily modify their clients' networking mechanism simply because they're trying to manage "BitTorrents, P2P, IRC" etc.
Are we Rogers clients not all subject to enforced bandwidth quotas? Beyond the quota what right does Rogers have to deny my internet usage should that extend to "large media files from more than 1 server"?
Considering the ever-increasing spotlight on the iPod and all things Apple, I'd have to hope that Rogers aren't totally asleep at the helm and realize that they need to address the situation (or disprove it!) before current subscribers vote with their wallets and take their business elsewhere.
I'm going to contact Rogers during business hours tomorrow and have my call escalated as high as I can get it before explaining the situation and asking them what they plan on doing about it - stay tuned... I'm sure that they'll tell me that they've taken care of everything and we're back in business

  • So what are the most common ML problems?

I want dictation on my computer, I already have it on my phone and pad.. but I am scared. Normally I would install it on a second drive first, but not only do I not really have the room, my boot drive is an SSD and I'm very spoiled... no interest in going backwards. But of course... what if I upgrade and blow it up?
So are there some pretty common issues?  I looked, but couldn't find a list of "What Mountain Lion Breaks" -
    Thanks

You didn't look very hard, I take it. If you want dictation just get Dragon Dictate or Dragon Express.
