Are there compatibility problems with viewing interactive PDFs?

I created an interactive PDF in InDesign, exported to v5, looks and works great, but I heard
that you can in no way guarantee your PDF will work on the user's computer
because the compatibility of the PDF across viewers is shaky at best. For
instance, there is little to no support for interactivity with Apple OS X's
"Preview" application, which is the default to open PDFs on all Mac computers.
Support even wanes across Adobe's own Acrobat versions - for instance
some types of interactivity are supported in various versions, but not in
others. This goes with application version number (i.e. v5 vs v6) and version
type (i.e. Acrobat Reader application vs Acrobat Reader plugin inside the web
browser vs Acrobat Pro). ---This is the first I've heard of any compatibility
problems, do you know if this is true or something to worry about?

Those are the limitations you have to put up with.
Apple doesn't follow the PDF spec. It chooses which PDF features it will support.
As to the version number (v5 or v6 or the new multimedia features in v9), there is different support in different versions of Reader/Acrobat as the product has developed. You just need to post a message to downloaders that they need to view the file in Adobe Reader version X or above to get the best experience.
Other industry standards face the same problem: How can you add new feature like multimedia? You can't always be backwards compatible.

  • Are there compatibility problems with PS CC and Windows 8?

Brand new computer - just installed PS CC and Bridge - opened a project with many layers - highlighted one layer - worked on it - went to work on another layer, and the first one remained highlighted??  Now there are two layers highlighted - waited a moment, clicked on a totally new layer, and all the layers in between the first one and the new one highlighted - and no, I wasn't holding down any keys!  Then, I wanted to test another project with layers, and clicked on the 'Bridge' icon in the bottom tray of PS and it wouldn't open - I had to go to 'Browse in Bridge' for Bridge to open??  Is there something I need to do to get PS to work on my new computer?

thank you for answering....yes...I just verified that I have 2014.2.2....
further problems:  in camera Raw...if I process one photo in a series of the same content, and then highlight 2 or three other photos to receive the same processing, I cannot then 'un highlight' those photos??  They remain highlighted and I cannot move on to another photo...
This is all very strange - I have been a PS user since 2000 - updating every time a new version came out - then I joined PS CC...so I'm not a stranger to PS...something is wrong...

  • Problem with viewing Adobe PDF documents

Problem with viewing Adobe PDF documents
I have a Windows 7 Home Premium Computer
I have read all the suggestions and I have tried downloading multiple versions of Adobe Reader for Windows 7 and Vista from http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/.
Prior to downloading each version I would delete the current version using  control panel programs uninstall.
After each new installation I would shut down the computer and then restart the computer.
I have tried downloading versions with and without having my antivirus (CA Total Defence) running.
I am told after download that the version downloaded successfully.
I have read Acrobat Help http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-reader-installation-windows.html and followed the instructions.
None of the above has helped.
The problem is no matter what version of Adobe Reader I download, I cannot seem to open a PDF and read it. Nor will the Reader itself stay open.
    1. If I try opening the reader from the desktop link or from the actual program menu, the reader opens for about 5 seconds and then closes of its own accord. If I try to click on any of the reader menus (eg File, Edit, View, Window, Help, Tools) then a warning bell is sounded and the menu does not open. Shortly thereafter the reader closes.
    2. If I try to open the reader by double clicking on a PDF document then the reader opens but the document is not shown (only the grey PDF reader screen is shown) and then the reader closes after about 5 seconds of its own accord.
The desktop shortcut shows as the 'red Adobe Reader icon'. But the actual program menu icon shows as a blank folder icon.  All PDF documents show as the PDF Adobe icon.
I have tested various PDFs and none will open on this computer but they will open on other computers.
I have created a word document and saved it as a PDF. It looked like it had save correctly (has the appropriate icon) but when I try to open it as per step 2 above then the document is not shown and then the reader closes after about 5 seconds of its own accord.
Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on and how I can fix this?
Could you please answer in this forum and email me at [removed]
I am so puzzled and frustrated.

Thank you so much this did the trick.
I spent so many hours on trying to sort this out and your answer was so  simple and clear.

  • Are There Compatability Problems Wtih Adobe Photoshop CS2 On The Windows Portion of iMac?

I understand that there are compatability problems with CS2 and lower vesions of the creative suite in relation to Leoapard OSX. Are there any compatability problems with CS2 for Windows if I install it on the Windows (using XP) partition of an iMac that uses the Leopard OSX?
    Please advise. Thanks.

If its not running in Leopard you should be fine.
don't confuse running PowerPC software in Rosetta (PPC emulation) with running CS2 in XP which is native. It like apples and oranges. there is nothing in common.

  • Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

    Hi,
are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.
    Thanks!

We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

  • Are there any problems with motion menus and buttons in DVDSP 2 on OS 10.4?

I have not used DVD Studio Pro 2 since upgrading to Tiger but it appears to no longer be showing moving motion on menus and buttons.
Are there any problems that I should be aware of when using DVDSP2 on OS 10.4?
I have not upgrade to a newer version only because I do not have any HD software to create DVDs.
    Thanks

  • Are there any problems with a "required Extended Protection" / "Always On" / "Livelink Server" combination?

    Hello,
we have a Livelink  Server database running with two replicas on two nodes as Always On Group, both instances running extended protection in "allowed" mode.
Our company security policy demands setting the extended protection to "required".
Are there any known problems with a "required Extended Protection" / "Always On" / "Livelink Server" combination?
    Environment:
    OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise X64 SP1
    DB: SQL Server 2012 (11.0.5556.0)
    Thx & BR
    Achim

    Hi Achim,
According to my knowledge, there are no known problems with a "required Extended Protection" / "Always On" / "Livelink Server" combination.
Extended Protection helps to prevent an authentication relay attack by using service binding and channel binding. We need to note that when Extended Protection is set to
Required, only connections from protected applications on protected operating systems are accepted. This setting is the most secure but connections from operating systems or applications that do not support Extended Protection will not be able
to connect to SQL Server. For more details, please review the following article.

  • Are ther any Problems with HTML in iOS 6?

We are having a problem with animated HTML-Objects in Adobe DPS. It's seems to be related with the iOS 6 update. We have two iPads, one with the updated software (iOS 6) and the other without it (iOS 5). Both of these have been updated with the new Adobe Content Viewer. The one with the old iOS works perfectly (HTML, Edge Animation, Videos) but the other with the most-up-to-date software does not. The HTML doesn't play and some times plays it once. We even tried by adding it to the HTMLResource folder to be trigger by a button to open a new window by itself, but no joy. Again we don’t have any of these problems on the iPad without the current software update. They all work perfectly

All the HTML content on my iOS 6 devices renders fine.
What does a web page from a non-Adobe DPS site look like?
From your description, it's a problem with the Adobe software.

  • Are there any problems with un-compressing a drive?

    Bottman wrote:
The only issue that I can think of is if the compressed files are then larger than the available space on the drive.
If you're worried about this, you could uncompress a block of files at a time.
The drive is currently 67% free.  I don't know what the compression ratio is but it probably wouldn't cause an issue with drive space.

I have a very important 2TB logical disk (NTFS, Basic, not the system disk) attached to a Server 2008 R2 virtual machine.  Write performance has been very slow with large files and I realized that "Compress this drive to save disk space" is checked for the whole drive.  Are there any issues with disabling this feature?  It's easy enough to enable but I don't know what happens when I disable it.

  • Problems with Long Interactive PDFs with Extensive Interactivity via Buttons and Hyperlinks

I have inherited a project which requires the creation of large interactive pdfs with lots of buttons and hyperlinks. I am having continuing problems with buttons not working and long periods of wasted time as attempted exports fail.
    Background:
The largest books range from 264 MB to 411 MB – (764 to 1024 pages).  Per book, the maximum number of buttons on each page is 16, linking separate files (subsections) in the book via text anchors.  The buttons are created using Master Pages which are set for each file (subsection) in the book.  50% to 60% of the pages in each file (subsection) will also be referenced as 2 hyperlinks.  One is the source page hyperlink on each workflow and the second is a listing on the source page as a possible navigation path. I have created hyperlink destinations for each page which is used to generate the source and navigation hyperlinks.  With 2 hyperlinks representing 50%-60% of the pages - that means the largest book contains a maximum of 1200 hyperlinks.  Each file (subsection) also has it’s own separate TOC and the bookmarks that are created  (optionally) during the TOC creation process.   As currenlty formatted, the book is primarily images of workflows which mean 50%-60% of the pages contain pdf images.
    Several questions:
    1.  How do I get my buttons to work consistently?  There is nothing worse than working hard and then ending up with faulty product.  I have been thinking about combining all the files into 1 document per book.  Then I could change the buttons to objects, add a hyperlink over each one and set them for a specific hyperlink destination.  Can I do that if the buttons are on Master Pages?  Can InDesign handle a document with 1024 pages?    I can't fix the problems in Acrobat later because it would mean 1024 fixes for just 1 button correction.
    2.  How do I stop InDesign from freezing when exporting these large pdfs?  It seems to wait until the final steps to crash which sometimes means a 4-6 hour waste of time per export.
    3.  Are we making a mistake using pdfs as our workflow images?  I'm not pleased with the quality of the images we have and wonder if we switched to another image format if this would improve the results.   Would it be worth the effort and relinking?  I have been reading different information on what the preferred source image format is for InDesign.  One article I found yesterday says using pdf images is a problem.  Another site said the Photoshop, TIF and JPG are preferred but PDFs were also acceptable.
    4.  Do I need to propose scrapping InDesign as the source of the project?  If so, what application can better meet my needs?

Those are the limitations you have to put up with.

  • Issues with viewing Interactive PDF.

I am a professor and use Indesign to design my digital slideshows—both images and videos. After exporting as Interactive PDF I view the files through Acrobat. I have two problems. After viewing one of the videos in acrobat I am not able to move on to the next image or video. The video just ends and the screen stays black. My workaround is to hit 'escape' to exit full screen mode. Upon entering fullscreen mode again I am able to resume viewing the PDF. There must be a better solution than this. My second problem is that the MOV files don't have sound when viewed in acrobat as interactive PDFS, yet these same MOV have sound when viewed with quicktime. Any ideas?

There's no way within the default workflow tools in Acrobat to automatically advance a PDF when a video annotation stops playing, but you can do it by replacing the video player widget with a customized one and adding some JavaScript to the PDF. However  it'll need to be done in Acrobat after the PDF has been exported.
As to the audio in your MOV file, it's because it's not in the correct format. Acrobat and Adobe Reader can render Flash video or native H.264 video streams, and AAC or MP3 audio, but cannot play the Linear PCM audio that is commonly included in Quicktime files (e.g. from a DSLR camera). You'll need to transcode the file into the correct format (H.264/AAC) - which is one reason why Acrobat Suite and Creative Suite collections include Adobe Media Encoder.

  • Are there any problems with running PPro CS4 under WIN7...?

I've successfully created a dual boot of WIN XP Pro 64-bit and WIN 7 Professional 64-bit on my RAID10, 2-TB drive.
I've been running numerous basic programs successfully under WIN 7. It has been totally stable for over a month and therefore I am about to transition Production Premium CS4 over to the WIN 7 partition from WIN XP where I've been running it for the past two years.
I'm just wondering if there are any consistent problems that have surfaced with this new OS and CS4?
I've looked through the forums and don't see much, so I have high hopes. But in case I've missed something, what should I watch out for?
    Intel DX48BT2 mobo, 2.83GHz Q9550 Core2Quad, 8gb DDR3 @1333GHz, nVidia GTX260XXX, 2TB SATA RAID10 drives, 100GB SATA scratch drive, 2 x 1TB eSATA external RAID 10 drives (LaCie & JMicron w/controller card), LG SATA Blu-Ray Burner.
All drivers & updates are current.
    TIA,

Having learned that with ADOBE there is always some nightmare scenario, I am stopping in my tracks until I get more information.
I installed (non-trial) Production Premium CS4 in the Win7 partition without problem. Opened PrPro and exported media using Encore and my preferred codec. So far, so good.
As expected, I got the "Excuse the interruption" message telling me that there were already two copies with the same serial number running - I have one on my laptop and the other is, of course, in the Win XP partition on the same computer & hard drive as this new install.
I chose the "30 days to fix the issue" option.
This was so I could migrate my preferences, keyboard & other presets to the Win7 install and confirm their proper operation before activation.
PITA #1 - In XP, presets, prefs, etc., are located in "c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\."
In Win7, they are located in "c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\. This is a hidden folder, so you must go to Folder Options\View and check "Show Hidden Folders." I think this is now in Control Panel\Settings ( I got there through a Help link so I'm not sure, but it is not in the folder headers "Tools" anymore).
PITA #2 - After copying my PrPro presets, prefs, keyboard settings, etc., to the above location, I tried to open PrPro to confirm everything. This was about an hour after my previous session. I now no longer get the "30-day option!!!" Only "Activate" "Buy a License" or "Quit!"
PITA #3 - Since I don't know how Deactivation and Activation work, I am not about to go any further. Since both copies are on the same physical computer and hard drive, they obviously cannot both be online at the same time. I am concerned that whatever happens at Adobe's end of this will not see the deactivation or will not properly activate the new install and then I'll be left with nothing operational. If they cannot keep track of the start date of the new install and wiped out the 30-day test period in an hour, I do not have much confidence that the activation process with go so well. I think there are a limited number of activations as well, and I don't know what that applies to or how that works. I can see a scenario where I have to re-activate the Win XP partition to try and track down something and then get stuck there because I've used up my activations and can't re-activate the Win7 partition.
Anyone have any insights on any of this...???
    TIA,

  • Photoshop Premiere 9 vs 13? Are there any problems with CPU usage and crashing?

I stopped using Premiere, because they the computer would freeze and/or the program. I was curious if there was any issue with people currently using Version 13?  I think I loaded it on this computer along with Photoshop Elements 9.  After a while I just kept Photoshop Elements.
    System Specs:
    Windows 7 premium home edition
    Processor Intel R Core TM i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed Memory 6.00GB   826 GB free
    64 Bit Operating system

    stephanies
If 64 bit, while 9 will be a 32 bit application with the limitations of a 32 bit application on 64 bit system, 13 will be a 64 bit application which translates into more computer resources available to 13.
Elements Organizer 9 will not integrate with Elements Organizer 13 although you can convert the 9 catalog in Elements Organizer 13. And there is a marked difference in the workspace between the two versions. Principles tend to stay the same, but features can be moved, changed, or discontinued.
I would have expected Premiere Elements 9/9.0.1 to have worked in your computer environment. Since it did not, I would strongly suggest that you look at the free 30 days tryout of Premiere Elements 13/13.1 in your computer environment to assure the compatibility of it with your computer environment and project goals.
