Are you sure you want to shut down now? repeatedly appears spontaneously.
Shut down dialog box appears spontaneously anytime. I cancel, but a few minutes later it reappears. How to stop?

Do you have just a single user account on your mac?
The first thing to do, is to check if the problem is unique to your user account, or happens on others - this will establish whether or not the problem is one of user settings, or something common to the whole system.
If you don't already have a second user account to try, go to System Preferences-Accounts & create a new account by clicking the + icon at bottom left ( if this is 'greyed out' you'll need to click the padlock icon & enter the Admin password first.
After you've created a new account, Log out via the Apple menu-Log Out.... & log in using the new account.
Let us know what you find out.

But to be honest I see in your description it says 'Late 2011' so there is a good chance you have warranty right, I would take it to Apple store and let them sort it out -
I'm using OSX 10.6.7, though cannot swear that the issue is new to the latest update. This popup message occurs so frequently, immediately after startup, that it almost seems that every mouse click triggers it, although again I can't be sure of that. I see that there are others with similar problems but they seem to be Macbook users for the most part -- I am not in contact with the power button when this happens, nor have I spilled beer on any component!
Try resetting the SMC by shutting down and disconnecting the power cable for at least 15 seconds.

Message "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now"
I am in OS 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro. I get repeated message upon start-up "are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Restarting does not stop the message. Nor does canceling it. It keeps occuring, blocking my ability to do applications. Because it comes to the front all the time, and the "shutdown" button is lit, if I inadvertently hit a return key while typing something else, the computer shuts down. I have a western digital backup disk-dismounting that has no effect. I have also run the disk utility permissions repair a few times to no avail.

Nov 26, 2013This might happen if your power button is malfunctioning. Remember a slight tap of the power button will bring up that screen. Bring it in for service if it is readily reproducible.

Is this after you've chosen to Shutdown from the Menu, or just on it's own?
You can press the esc key to cancel, or Enter key to shutdown.
Check your System Preferences>Energy Saver>Schedule & see if it's set to shutdown at a certain time. -

This morning on startup I received the popup message "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?". Canceling has no effect. The message just reappears on restart. I've verified the disk; it's fine. I've repaired permissions and I get this message: "Warning: SUID file System/Library/Core has been modified and will not be repaired. Any ideas as to what is going on?
Can you perhaps look in the console (/utilities/console) and watch for what's written around the time of the dialog?
Perhaps an indication is there. -

If i leave my macbook inactive for around a minute the message "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer?" appears and gives me the usual options of cancel, log off, sleep and shut down. This happens even i am running a full screen programme or watching something online.
I have tried going through system preferences and changing things such as the energy saver preferences and nothing seems to work. Please help.Check this or maybe the coffee has finally taken it's toll and you might want to take ot in to Apple.

Computer is automatically prompting "Are you sure you want to shut down....
On friday i posted that the iBook was restarting itself, now it is getting a tad bit clearer, sometimes when I boot up, i can hear the chime several times, sometimes it will make it to the desktop and then shut off immediately. Then I noticed while i used Word the prompt "Are your sure you want to shut down..." I pressed cancel. 5 seconds later, the same. Thats when I realized, there must be something wrong with the iBook that is either giving the command to shut down or that the button is...faulty?. I press the button and the prompt does appear, but, the button feels firm. Like most Mac users I pamper my mac, and nothing rattles inside. What can be happening? How can I diagnose what is wrong. I have tons of work and I don't feel like dropping the iBooK at Apple right now.
PaulSounds like a hardware issue to me, as did your first post. I know you don't want to but I think your best bet is to take it to the shop. First though, I would try and backup everything I could.

Random "are you sure you want to shut down" prompt
i have briefly searched this forum for this issue and have found similar questions, but no solution for me. help!
my macbook pro will randomly give me the "are you sure you want to shut down" prompt. i hit cancel and then it shuts down anyway. half of the "random" times are when i come back to the computer after a while (either asleep, or closing the clamshell). it happens when i'm running on the battery or plugged in. it happens for a while, sometimes all day long, and then it might not do it for months. it happens either when i'm working or just checking email. i've checked the console and see some suspect things but i don't understand any of it. i'm a graphic designer, not an IT person. i have googled some of the phrases found in the console but the solutions proposed are all too technical for me and i can't figure out what to do. I've zapped the PRAM and it might work for a day. I've verifed disk permissions and all that other stuff and nothing has ever been found. about a month ago i finally took it to the genius bar at the apple store and they kept it overnight to check it out. they didn't find any issues with the hardware and suggested i do a clean reinstall. i did that and about two weeks later, it started again. could this perhaps be lemon? i replaced the hard drive after owning this machine for one year. i've had the computer for about 2 years now.

i took the thing into the apple again last week and they ran some more tests. this time they found the logic board, more specifically the "accelerator" was messed up. they replaced the logic board and so far, no problems. but it's only been a week. i was super irritated that i even had to pay for the repair since i think the computer is a lemon. they used the "excuse" that i didn't have apple care and the machine was out of warranty. and also, that no problems were ever documented with apple. i think purchasing apple care is a scam. i have never had a problem with any of my other apple products so i have never seen the need to spend that kind of money. what kind of crap are they producing if they want all their customers to purchase apple care. bah! needless to say, i'm very upset with the way apple handled this. i've been a loyal customer since the early 90s and have spent enough $$$ with them. they can't pay for this repair? it's a manufacturing problem, not my fault. -
Macbook pro random shutdown "are you sure you want to shut down?"
Firstly, I'm asking this on behalf of my boyfriend who would ask himself if his computer were working!
His MacBook Pro 2.2GHZ new since July07 has just now, when started up, started displaying the shutdown message "are you sure you want to shut down?" and then shutting down anyway. Without being asked or prompted.
This has happened everytime it has been switched on after a couple of minutes it will just do it over again. It is fully charged.
Absolutely no idea what to do other than to take it down to the Mac Store and get it looked at.
If anyone has any help or advice it would be greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance. CharlieOk thought i had this fixed myself, i put it down to over heating as it was just acting normally for the last couple of hours but having just turned it off and started shutting everything down for the night it turned itself on!
I think i solved this by shutting the laptop but this has never happened before. I really hope someone can help, I've googled the problem to no avail and this is pretty much my last hope.

When ever I leave a internet site an Apple drop down box appears that says,
" Are you sure you want to send form again?", " To Re-open this page Safari must resend a form. "This action might result in duplicate purchases, comments, or other actions".
The box has two options,... "Send", or " Don't send",...
I always hit the don't send button.
It always drops down twice now when it used to only drop down once.

When I click on a post that I wish to read it shows me that post but if I hit back the server is set up to not allow multiple searches within a short time and the page returns "you cannot submit another search in such a short time".
If I understand what you're describing, that's a function of the phpbb forum, not something Safari is doing or can change.
A suggestion: Instead of just clicking on the posts you want to read, I would Command-click to open them in new tabs. Your page of search results will remain open in the first tab, so when you're finished reading the posts, you can close their tabs and return to your list of search results. -
I bought Time Capsule specifically to back up my computer at work. Only my computer. There are many computers within my department. I completed the steps the best of my knowledge but was unsure of which option to click. I clicked "I want to create a new wireless network". At the onset the instructions said I needed to connect with an ethernet cable, which I did. But I have no desire to connect to the internet, print from it, or have others access. I did deselect guest options, and I did put in passwords. But at the end of the process I got the message, "This device & its network services will be temporarily unavailable. Are you sure you want to continue."
I was worried this would shut me down and I wouldn't be able to continue to work. I don't necessarily need to connect wirelessly. It is connected via ethernet cable from machine to device.
Can you advise me how to continue? Did I choose the wrong options?I bought an external hard drive called "Seagate Backup Plus" From the Apple store to back up everything on my computer and anything new on my computer. It came with Time Machine. The external hard drive disk had 1 or 2 Terabytes. Time Machine says "next backup: When disk is connected." "Oldest backup: July 2, 2014." & Also "Latest back July, 2."
