Arranging Library by Album

I've noticed a little problem with arranging my music library by album.
Say you've got three albums titled "Greatest Hits". iTunes doesn't automatically arrange the album by artist, so all your Greatest Hits albums are jumbled.
Sure, you could change the titles to each album to say, "Tom Petty's Greatest Hits" or "Billy Idol's Greatest Hits". This, though, will cause any album information in the Mini Store to be inaccurate. (I don't know about you, but I like my album information to be 100% accurate!)
Has anyone found a way to overcome this? Also, does anyone know if iTunes plans on organizing similarly titled albums by artist?

It would be good to find resolution to this for me too. Say you have Santana, featuring -----
and featuring ----- on another cut
and featuring ----- on another cut, etc.
You wind up with all of these titles stored separately, rather than grouped with their entire album.

  • Manually arranging Library items -- buggy?

I'm trying to figure out whether Aperture (all versions including latest) has a bug or whether I need to delete some preference-files to reset something.
I have several large Libraries, some 'general' ones and some others that are confined to particular travel-adventures. A general library has lots of Projects and a few albums. A travel Library probably has a Project for each camera chip and lots of Albums comprising the days and 'events' of the trip. In every Library, most Albums are manually created and some are Smart Albums.
THE PROBLEM:  As I go thru the organizing process, I manually arrange the Albums, etc., in the Inspector pane but after dragging and dropping an Album in the pane it sometimes 'lands' in a spot a few items 'above' the place I dropped it. It's stubborn and repeatable. Restarting Aperture doesn't seem to fix it.
Seveal Aperture versions ago I filed this as a bug but nothing has changed. Have others witnessed it?

That's an okay idea and will 'solve' the problem but it implies that I can make up appropriatly numbered prefixes as I go. Of course I've worked around various sorting problems by naming/numbering the file system's directories and folders on every computer I've ever used (including Unix on the PDP-11/20). But as soon as I want to create another album in-the-middle I might have to adjust a bunch of names. Feh.
As no one else has commented, maybe I'll go delete some preference files. Thanks.

  • Is it possible to copy the iphoto library and albums from a G5 to a macpro

I would like to copy my iphoto library and albums from a G5 10.5.8 iphoto 8 to a macpro 10.6.2 with iphoto 9. I would like all the photos and albums to appear in the macpro just as they were in the G5. I have vantecs ezshare adapter that allows you to drag files between two computers mac or windows. Copying photos should not be a problem but its the albums I want to go with the photos and appear in iphoto 9 on the macpro.

iPhoto '09 will open and convert any previous version of the iphoto library - if it is working correctly on the old system it should convert
Firewire target mode is a good way to transfer the iPhoto library - make the connection and drag the entire iPhoto library at one intact as a single entity to the new computer (put it on the desktop or somewhere so as not to mess up what you have done - depress the option key and launch iPhoto on the new system and select the library you just copies (be sure not to select the one on the old computer - you do not want to convert it - conversion is a one way operation) - it should open and convert and be ready to use - then you can quit iPhoto and place it where you want and do the option launch again to tell iPhoto where it is - and do the option launch any time you want to switch between multiple libraries

  • Does iCloud Photo Library syncronise ALBUMS across devices?

It is not clear whether the iCloud Photo Library synchronises ALBUMS across iOS devices. NOT just photos - the Photo Stream does that but I have several dozen albums on one iPad and I want the to be recreated on another iOS devices automatically.
Can anyone actually answer this question? It seems simple enough.
Here is what I want to happen after configuring the system:-
The existing albums on iPad A appear on iPad B automatically.
Changes to an album on either A or B are reflected on the other device.
A new album created on either device appears on the other device.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    ELKAY

Ok. At last I have it. And as far as I can tell my problem can't be solved automatically
As far as I can tel. most existing Albums (which aren't in the iCloud) don't get re-created or synchronised. All albums on your iPad will be deleted (although oddly for me, there are three out of 70 that seem to have been kept).
Turning on iCloud Photo Library turns it on for all devices that have the same Apple ID, and that are  on a compatible version of the iOS. Any new album that is created on any device that is part of the iCloud photo library will be synced to other devices.
My approach has been to disconnect one of my iPads from the network which has all my albums and I will work through one album at a time recreating it and adding the selected photos to the album.
Much remains unclear (such as what happens to edits made on a iPad) and for a company whose story is all about ease of use, this has been a very opaque and nerve-racking experience - strating with the hair-raising message when you turn it on about deleting photos from iTunes. Before getting into the iCloud 'dream' I backed up all my photos from all devices to DropBox and from there to a USD drive.
The Photo-stream is another problem - no proper explanation of anything from the vendor - who knows where the images actually reside, and when they will disappear!
My next move is to look at Picasa as an alternative to this half-baked Apple vision.

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

  • I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums

    IMac OS X  V 10.6.8
I have lost my entire IPhoto Library and albums.
    How do I restore?

Your only other option is to stop using your Mac as soon as possible to minimize precious data being overwritten to, purchase a high quality, fast external hard drive, preferably a FIreWire external hard drive such as these
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
using an OS X Snow Leopard install disc, format this external drive as a Mac OS extended (journaled) formatted hard drive with a GUID partition scheme and then, using a install disc of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, install a fresh copy of OS X Snow Leopard and boot your Mac to that external hard drive by using the Startup Disc icon in the OS X System Preferences Panel to boot your Mac to the external hard drive. Once your Mac is booted and running from this hard drive,  then use the OS X Software Update feature to update that version of OS X Snow Leopard to OS X 10.6.8.
Then, you need to do a web search for a Data recovery software such as Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue and purchase, download, install and use this software to perform data recovery of your iMac's internal hard drive following the proper instructions on how to use the software. to recover the data.
Be advised that any images you recover will no longer be in a format that IPhoto will read and most like will just be a folder with just the images alone without any more linkage to the IPhoto library, but I am not completely sure about this as I always have redundant backups of my entire system.
If this seems all too complicated and complex to you, you need to stop using your Mac ASAP and either contact an Apple Store or Apple Authorised reseller/service/repair center to find out how much it will cost for them to recover your data and bring your Mac in for a more professional data recovery.
I still strongly advise you purchase a high quality, large storage, fast, external hard drive to use for future data backups to prevent such a catastrophic data loss from happening, again.
Every  computer user SHOULD have, at least, one external backup drive and having redundant backup drives is even better.

  • Size of photo's in library and albums

When I bought my Mac, iPhoto pictures were installed in a way that I could view several pictures at a time, in a size of about 2,5 x 2,5 cm. When editing the titles, I could do so by highlighting the titel underneath a picture. Now, suddenly by some 'wrong' move, something has changed, and I can only view the pictures in library and albums as very small miniatures. When I want to edit, I have to use the box at the left side, either directly by highlighting the picture, or by opening the picture, so I can only see the one I am working on. Can anyone tell me how te restore this option where I could see several pictures at a time? It was much more practical to work with these size, than with these miniatures.
Thanks a lot for any one who can help me out!

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
Look in the lower right hand corner of the iPhoto window and slide the little slider there to the right until you see the desired number of photos in a row (you must have two or more in order to be able to select photos - the selection does not work when a single photo is displayed)
When the photos are large enough you will be able to edit the title just below the photo

  • How do I re-arrange the photo albums on my ipad?

how do I re-arrange the photo albums on my ipad?

The photos in an album can be arranged in iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac and when synced to the iPad. The photos should retain their order.
It is a different case for albums synced from a PC, the photos are arranged usually in alphabetical order based on the meta data embedded in the photo. To change the order you would need to alter the meta data.

  • When sorting library as "Album by Artist," an album is out of order

This is really insignificant, I know, but it's bizarre, and I can't figure out why it's happening.
On one specific album, out of 1370, when I sort my library as Album by Artist or Album by Year, a single track is out of order. It is track 12, but appears at the end, after track 14. No matter what I put as the track number for that track, it will always be placed at the end of the album. It is not labeled as a different disc, album, or album artist, or as part of a compilation, nothing is misprinted, and near as I can tell, the track's info is completely consistent with the rest of the album. I even deleted all the track info for the whole album and manually filled it back in, and it still appears out of order. The tracks DO appear in the correct order when I only sort by album.
What exactly is going on here? Is this some sort of bug, or is there some data in the track I haven't thought of that will always cause it to appear at the end of the album when sorting as I do?
    Message was edited by: Rollersnake

OK, putting something in the Album Artist field for the album fixed it.
Near as I can tell, the track info for the album was inconsistent when I downloaded it, and though I deleted the "album artist" field for the whole album, more than once even, it somehow still registered as being different for that one track. Now when I delete the field for the whole album, it stays in order regardless of sorting method.

  • I do not see Library or Albums when creating books?

I want to be able to choose my photos from Library or albums while craeting a book in iPhoto 06, please tell me how I can see me photos while creating a book.
    Thank you,
    Sebastian

    Hi SebastianMacLuver,
The easiest way to create a book is to make an album containing all the images you think you might want to include in the book. Then select the album to create the book from. If you decide you want more photos from your library, select them in the library and drag them to the book icon in the source column. The new images will appear in the strip at the top of your book viewing window.

  • How to reinstall iPhoto 5 without losing library photos/albums?

I had a hard freeze while copying photos from iPhoto 5 to desktop. After forced shutdown and restart, every time I try to open iPhoto it opens briefly and then shuts down, asking me if I want to send a report to Apple. Tried installing 5.04 update (no problems) but again, on trying to open iPhoto, it immediately closes.
Can someone advise me the steps to go through to "uninstall" what may be a corrputed iPhoto program and reinstall (I have the iLife CD/DVD install discs) without losing my library photos, albums, etc?

    Hi bovie,
It is not the application that is giving you problems. It is a corrupt data file in your iPhoto LIbrary folder.
I am pretty sure you will have to create a new library and import the images from the old.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
    Lori

  • Share library or album with faces information

Is it possible to share a library or album with faces information intact?

Share? Sure. Simply put the Library on an external disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and allow the other person to open it. They'll see exactly what you see.
Share from? Not so clear. There is no way to export a photo with faces information. There is no agreed standard for passing this information around. However, if the other person has the same version of iPhoto as you it is possible to use iPhoto Library Manager to share this data from one Library to another.

  • How can I arrange my music albums alphabetically

How can I arrange my music albums alphabetically in i-tunes

For list views in iTunes 11 click the heading of the Album column. If it reads Album by Artist/Year or Album by Artist click again once or twice respectively to get the correct option. If necessary click the small black triangle to reverse the order. For other views you are generally limited to an Album by Artist ordering.

  • How can I stop itunes arranging and playing album tracks alphabetically?

I am obviously an absolute half-wit, but when I import albums into itunes it arranges the tracks alphabetically. I want them to play in the order that they are on the album.
Does anyone know how I can make this happen?
    17" powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

after you open itunes click the library icon in the source field to your left.
click on edit in the menu bar of itunes,
    click view options .
place a check mark in the box marked track number.
now there should be a column heading that says "Track#" click that heading.
your library is now sorted by track number but all the first tracks of every album are first, if the last song on the album are first click the triangle in the track # column again this will reverse the order.
next click the Album column heading you will now have the albums in alphabetical order with original track order in the library.
just remember sort by track# first then by Album.
    hope this helps.

  • How to find original iPhoto Album photos in Library (by Album content)

I have run out of Macbook space (OSX 10.7.5) and want to put all my photos on an external hard drive and share them between MacBook and iMac (no cloud please).  I want to do this by "Album" name because that's how they are organized.  I don't get the "events" thing in iPhoto, nor am I interested in the "Faces" stuff.  Just simple file access is all I want.
QUESTION 1:  How can I find the original photos after exporting by album?  I want to delete these permanently from the Library -- from my MAC.
QUESTION 2:  Is there a smarter way to get these photos onto my external drive than using "export?"  And, is there a way to re-size a batch of files as opposed to one by one?  I made all my camera photos the largest size possible, one reason I've run out of disk space.  But to individually re-size would be impossible.
Note:  I'm in a mess with photos.  Have 20K on MacBook and about 25K on my iMac.  There are 8 different iPhoto Libraries on my iMac, created by me in an effort to organize but I didn't know what I was doing and they are a total mess.  My goal is to get them all into this hard drive from both computers then start all over again.  But they need to be by album.  I'm not an "Event" person -- doesn't make sense to me, so I've put all my photos in albums.  When I start over I may not use iPhoto.  Thinking of going back to Windows actually.

Sorry I'm terrible at explaining and even using my macbook haha. Let me try again. I imported some photos that I wanted to group together into an album. I forgot to create the album before importing a new set of photos which then took the place of the previous ones in the "last import" album. Is there anywhere or any way I can easily find the selection of photos I forgot to put into an album together without having to select them one by one from the "all photos" section? These would be the only pictures in my Photos application that haven't been organized into an album yet if that helps; however, these photos were not taken on the same date.
