Article on the cost savings of Linux over Win2k for Oracle 9i????

Has anyone seen an article on cost savings for switching to Linux from Win2K as an Oracle server. I am trying to make the switch in my small company and looking for all the ammo I can find to make a presentation.

If you need cost saving and don't need support-
don't use Oracle.
There are good databases with open source licenses,
for instance,SAP DB.Yes, or PostgreSQL, but SAP DB or PostreSQL don't have
features like Oracle btw. replication, referential integrity (I know that have this, but performance are bad), select large queries, distributed databases etc.
If You don't need this features You can use SAP or PostgreSQL.
Oracle work good without support - Oracle is very stable and documentation is excelent.
Support is optional and support is same in Windows and Linux.
If You have to pay for SLES or RH AS for Oracle support,You don't need licence for every servers or clients - for Win You have to pay licence for every server
and clients - this is cost savings (not support)
This is real cost saving.
If you don't need Oracle support, you don't really need
so expensive RDBMS :-)

How to make the cost center or WBS field optional for Vendor/customer line?

Dear experts:
Does anyone has the experience of releasing WBS or cost center fields to be optional for the customer or vendor line item?
I've tested in system, neither the field status control in GL account master data nor the FSG in posting key worked, I can't let the WBS field to display in the screen and ready for input.
So my conclusion is that the FSG control in not completely effective for customer/vendor line, it there any other method to let WBS to be optional in custer/vendor line items?
Our purpose for changing that is that we're using joint venture accounting, we need to let users to input a cost object for system to derive joint venture information. please do not suggest deriving JV information using other methods, because we're dealing with a special case, i.g. in a cross-company document, only a customer/vendor line in our company, so it's impossible to split JV information from offset lines, anyway, please help me out directly with my issue.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to modify the FSG of recociliation account of Vendor/Customer to make sure Cost Center/WBS field display in transaction F-22/F-43 for example, right?
I am not sure whether it is possible, I also tried in ECC6.0 but failed to show these two fields. And I think that doesn't make sense to assign CO object to AP/AR reconciliation account, but assign it to Revenue/Expense account in following line items.
And You can use New General Ledger functionality Document Splitting to derive corresponding CO object information to Reconciliation Account line item, but it is enabled only in General Ledger level, not in subledger level.
If you find any other meaningful solution, please also share with us.

but the thing is that you need to be an oracle customer with a valid customer support id (CSI) to download it. Without CSI there is no chance to get the patch.

The previous owners details are still in it, so for example when I try to update the facebook app it asks me for the previous owners password, and shows the previous owners email address. How do I change it all to my details? I have already synced it with itunes and all of my music is now in it, and it's also renamed on the itunes page when I attach the ipod to my PC. I've also been in to the 'info' page, 'Advanced' and then 'Replace information on this ipod with mail accounts from this computer' then finally 'apply', but it still has the other persons ID.

I've answered my own question! I now understand that you can't use apps as they are always going to be linked to the original owner. I've since deleted the app and downloaded it again, and all is now well!

I m wrkig as Oracle DBA.
Very curious to know the initials for RAC set up at OS level.
Can anyone provide his/her usefull guidelines for the same.
Although I know all steps at OS level also, but didn't did the set up of before Oracle RAC installation.
Want to increase knowlegde on like:
--how we sahre storage.
--how we set up network (private & virtual IP) and how can check working of NIC's.
--and other required things.

Also, if you and your company are serious about using RAC, then you should make use of Oracle's RAC Assurance group to assist you. They will provide you with starter kit information for the o/s selected. They will check every single configuration parameter afterwards and deliver a comprehensive report on what's wrong, what works and what doesn't. With recommended changes that need to be done.

I am using RHEL 5 but could not find wireshark trace and I beleive that you need to have Oracle Linux support subscription to access yum repositories. How an Oracle employee can update the software?

How to count processors on Linux 5.6 for Oracle Coherence

We are running coherence on Sun blade servers with multicore processors with Hyperthreading enable. Therefore, the /proc/cpu information shows 24 cores. For the sake of calculating the cores for use with coherence (.5 core per member) do we use the actual number of cores or the number reported (12 actual cores vs 24 cores with Hyperthreading)?

The last 2 files have been installed successfully. But when reboot Oracle Linux Server-Base 2.6.18-238.el5, I still see :
"Initializing ASMLib driver: FAILED."
[root@rac1 /]#/etc/init.d/oracleasm configure -i
Its output "initializing Oracle ASMLib driver: OK "
My questions are:
Does the issue OS "Initializing Oracle ASMLib driver: FAILED" have effect later ? Do we need to solve it ?

What are the steps to setup JavaMail in JDeveloper for Oracle Portlet??

Dear all,
I had got a problem in using JavaMail in JDeveloper.
I am developing a Oracle portlet (actually, it is an online applicatin form for user submission.).
After user submitted the form, the portlet will send email automatically to someone else for notification. The logic is straight forward.
I faced a problem on how to setup the environment for calling JavaMail API.
As far as I know, JavaMail is included in J2EE platform, so I guess I need to put JavaMail classes in the import directives, i.e.
import="java.util.Properties"
import="javax.mail.*"
import="javax.mail.internet.*"
But, when compile the program, error messages are resulted that JavaMail classes not found.
Can anyone help me?

Reporting.... Cost savings, open purchase orders

I am new to SAP and I have so many questions and ZERO answers. I would like to be able to find all my open orders (and find ones overdue) so I can follow up with the suppler. My second report is tracking cost savings on min/max items. Is there a way (instead of an excel spreadsheet) to track the cost savings??? I thought I could use the PIR to pull the better pricing but I just am not finding the correct reporting tool. Anyone???? I am a buyer and have many questions on the system. All help is welcome!!!!
