[AS][CS5] Photoshop script no longer opening PDFs without prompt

set this_folder to (choose folder with prompt "Pick the folder containing the PDF files to process:" ) as string
tell application "System Events"
set these_files to every file of folder this_folder
end tell
repeat with i from 1 to the count of these_files
set this_file to (item i of these_files as alias)
set this_info to info for this_file
if visible of this_info is true and alias of this_info is false and name extension of this_info is "pdf" then
set myFilePath to ((this_folder & name of this_info) as string)
        tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
            with timeout of 300 seconds
open alias myFilePath as PDF with options {class:PDF open options, mode:CMYK, resolution:300, use antialias:true, page:1} showing dialogs never
            end timeout
        end tell
    end if
end repeat
The above was working when I wrote it.
The next time I tried to use it it fails to open the PDF.
What I get:
Error: 8800. General Photoshop error occurred.
This functionality may not be availble in this version of Photoshop. - <no additional information available>
Removing the 'showing dialogs never' causes Photoshop to ask me what files to open and how to handle the PDF.
Changing the tell to say:
tell application "Adobe Acrobat"
open alias myFilePath
end tell
Opens all the PDFs as I expected it to because the file alias is valid. I have appropriate file access.
set this_folder to (choose folder with prompt "Pick the folder containing the PDF files to process:" ) as string
tell application "System Events"
set these_files to every file of folder this_folder
end tell
repeat with i from 1 to the count of these_files
set this_file to (item i of these_files as alias)
set this_info to info for this_file
if visible of this_info is true and alias of this_info is false and name extension of this_info is "pdf" then
set myFilePath to alias ((this_folder & name of this_info) as string)
        tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1"
            with timeout of 300 seconds
open  myFilePath as PDF with options {class:PDF open options, mode:CMYK, resolution:300, use antialias:true, page:1} showing dialogs never
            end timeout
        end tell
    end if
end repeat
Results in an error:
File some object wasn't found
So anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

It may be but I have not been able to figure it out.
Thanks.

CS5 does not support ACR 8.5, it only goes as far as 6.7.

  • I can no longer open pdfs in Firefox. I don't get an error message. Nothing happens when I click on the link. Same problem with downloads.

Never had a problem like this before, I was always able to open a pdf or download a file from any site. I used Firefox exclusively to download my credit card statements, bills, etc. but I can no longer do this.

    Hi lornetz,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is some good troubleshooting information in there. They also list 2 different PDF plugins. I'd try both just to be safe.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I can no longer open pdf files

I use Microsoft Home edition XP software on a Dell Dimension 4600. I have several email addresses, each with it's separate Outlook account. The email address that I get most pdf's on will no longer open these files although the others will. Does anybody know why and how to fix this?

    What happens when you try?
It could be that the email provider has changed something in the way they encode attached files.

  • Can no longer open PDF files in Safari 7 using Mavericks - help??

I cannot open PDF files on my iMac - not sure why - I am using  Safari 7 & have downloaded Mavericks - it says I have to launch Acrobat 8 and agree to terms (or some such thing) Please help.  How do you make Reader 9 the default for opening pdf's?   Help?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Can no longer open PDF Files

After running MacKeeper (may be a coincidence), I can nolonger open PDF files. I used to be able to double click and they would open (I think in Preview). Now I get a mesage that I can't open with this version of Mac OS X. Same if I try to open Preview. I am using10.5.8. Can't open with Pages. Can open with Acrobat Reader 5. from within the app.I have restarted my Mac and run software update. How would I redownload Preview or maybe there is another fix??
    Need help. Thanks in advance.

    Partly great news Stuart, thanks!
No idea how ZeoBit gets away with this slime ware.
There are many good 3ed party Disk/maintenance apps like DiskWarrior, DRive Genius, & maybe even TechTool, but for free...
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
What happens when you try to use Preview to view PDFs?

  • This is actually a FF 4 RC question...but I can no longer open PDF files...the page just goes blank. No option in applications to set a PDF viewer as default. Help!

How do you open PDF files in FF4 RC? The application section in options doesn't have PDF as an option to associate with a program. Whenever I click on a PDF file, I just get a blank tab.

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • FF 5 no longer opens pdf in browser window & only fix on offer, Dafizilla ViewSourceWith, won't instal and greys out Menu bar.

''locking this thread - discussion is here - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/857882''
I thought I had the Foxit Reader Plug-In reinstalled since I installed FF5, but I've reinstalled it again anyway and reset it to open in Firefox under Tools Options. Once I was happy with the latest Foxit Reader I really didn't want to even try the dead-buried-and-decomposed Adobe Acrobat again. I've disabled that now as it wasn't opening pdfs in Firefox either when I had it selected under Tools Options.

These are the steps I performed on my own system many months ago. I could not view PDF files in Firefox with both Adobe Reader and Foxit installed.
#Close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#If you have not already done so, uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.5 using Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, click on the item, click Remove. You may need to restart your system.
#Open Foxit in your programs list Windows Start > Programs
#*on the Foxit menu, click Tools > Preferences
#*click File Associations and be sure "Display PDF in browser" is checked then click "Make Default PDF Viewer" then click OK
#*close Foxit Reader (File > Exit)
    #Start Firefox
#*Open the Applications panel (Tools > Options > Applications '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Options > Options > Applications)
#*type '''pdf''' in the search box; you should see "Foxit Reader PDF document"
#*in Action column, click the down arrow at the far right end
#*choose "Use Foxit Reader plugin for Mozilla (in Firefox)'
#**if the full name does not display, place the cursor over the item to see the full name in a tooltip box
#Test on a pdf file from the internet
#*If there is no toolbar at the top of the PDF display in the tab (just a blue strip), tap the F8 key to get the Basic toolbar, or right-click the blue strip at the top to display/not display other toolbars by clicking on them (checked=display; un-checked=do not display)

  • Photoshop CS4 Freezes when opening PDFs

When I drag two, 2-page PDFs onto Photoshop CS4 to open them, PS opens one page of one PDF and then freezes. I can replicate this every time I try.
Once PS freezes it takes a little patience to get it to force quit.
    Any advice?

Not to dig up the past, but I've been having this problem since a couple of months ago, and I have an idea about what might be causing the bug. It IS a bug.
My workflow involves taking hundreds of PSD and PDF files for product packaging and converting them to 3D and 2D product shots. We have to supply retailers with high-res JPGs of our distributed products. Most of the original files have crop marks, color bars, etc.
In the past, all I had to do was drag my files, whatever they were, to the dock. I would typically work in batches, pulling up 10 or so files at once, cropping them, and then running an action, depending on the general format. Pretty much every layout is a different size, or using a different template, or what have you, so using an action to do the actual cropping is completely out of the question. Cropping in Acrobat is horribly implemented, so that's out of the question.
One day I started doing some image processing as normal, and photoshop opened the first PDF, rasterized it, and then became completely unresponsive. Well, let me specifically qualify that. It lets me continue using any application other than photoshop, and it will let me click on the menus, which will drop down from the menu bar, but you can't select any commands at all. They aren't grayed out, they just don't respond. The behavior is exactly what you would get if you had a dialog box open, but there isn't an open dialog box. There SHOULD be (for the next PDF), but it isn't there.
You can't "quit" or close that first PDF or anything. Some commands will try to function (scripts) but fail and say "Sorry, something major happened, and I can't continue" (yes, that's really the error message).
OS X doesn't think that PS is locked up. PS doesn't think it is locked up, but it won't do anything at all. It only happens with multiple PDFs being dragged to the dock or opened through "file/open." In fact, if you select 30 PSD files, 10 JPGs, 5 EPS files, 1 PDF and 10 Illustrator files, it will work just fine. 2 PDFs? locks up.
I've found one way to get around this bug, and it might work for those of you with this problem. Use the File/Scripts/Image Processor tool to rasterize your PDFs to PSD files as an intermediate step, and then you can open them in Photoshop. If you need something other than pg 1 of a multipage document, you'll have to edit in acrobat first to get rid of unwanted leading pages.
That's been my work-around for a few months.
I just recently moved from my Mac Pro to a new MacBook Pro. I did a clean install, and then ran migration assistant to move my stuff over to a new account.
Everything went well, but the photoshop bug appeared to follow me to a new machine. I was very frustrated.
Then I realized what had changed around the time of this bug originally showing up: I'd added a second monitor!
So, thinking I'd figured out the bug and how to get around it for real, I just disconnected my external monitor and force-quit Photoshop. Opened it back up, and the bug is still there in force, even with one display active.
    Here's my info, to clarify:
    Original machine with the bug:
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz (4 core 2007 model)
    8GB RAM
    320 GB velociraptor (system drive)
    1.5TB RAID 0, 900 GB free (scratch)
    10.5.7-10.6.6 (bug never went away)
    2 NEC 20" LCDs
    CS5 Design Premium, fully updated
    New machine, also with bug:
    2011 15" MacBook Pro, 2.0ghz 4 core
    8 GB RAM
120GB SATA6 SSD (system drive, primary scratch), 70 GB free
500 GB stock HDD (in the optical bay, storage drive, secondary scratch), 250 GB free
    10.6.7
    1 NEC 20" LCD + built-in hi-res display
