As soon as I run an update nothing works!

I have re installed FCP studio 2 about seven times now including erasing the drive and re installing the system.
I finally found where my problem is. Every time I run the latest updates the sequence/project presets are missing in Motion and Final Cut and DVD studio Pro freezes when ever I do anything.
I can't work out why though. So now I'm stuck not being able to run updates and not being able to open projects that were created in the later versions.
Has this happened to anyone or any ideas how I can fix this problem?

When you reinstalled the system, did you perform an erase and install? If not try that. Reinstalling over and over can lead to some wierd behavior for sure.

  • After last update nothing worked......

After updating the last time nothing worked, it even deleted my iPhone and had to reinstall everything.
I followed the steps to reinstall iTunes and Quicktime Pro as indicated in Apple support, and also reinstalled Safari.
Itunes           -> OK (Luckily and allowed me to backup the iPhone).
Quicktime     -> Doesn't open (only works if I take a file and right button "open with").
Safari            -> If I install Safari nothing works at all, cannot access Itunes store and it is impossible to navigate with Safari.
Tried it at least 5 times, but always the same.
So I don't install Safari, and Quicktime doesn't work properly.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    This solved everything :

  • TS4209 Is there a way to make certain that I have this update? I run software update, and nothing is available, yet the problem persists.

Is there a way to make certain that I have this update? I run software update, and nothing is available, yet the problem persists.

I added this post in response to this parent post: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4209?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The parent posts mentions the solution to my problem is the update available when you run software update. However my system is up to date, and I still have the problem.
    Further information:
When I return home from work, and wake my computer, the Wi-Fi indicator shows that it is trying to connect. It fails, and the signal bars show zero connectivity. If I click on the Wi-Fi indicator, the computer then searches for nearby networks, and I am able to select mine. Then it connects.
It seems very clear that the problem is my iMac tries to connect before looking for networks.

  • Running Bootcamp update 3.3- nothing happens

I ran bootcamp update 3.3 and nothing happens.  Originally all I was trying to do was install windows XP service pack 3 (I installed windows XP) because my school network requires it, however, it would not complete because of lack of disk space.  I looked up on google how to fix this, and it told me I needed to update, so I did, and it downloaded, I clicked on it, it asked to run or not, I ran it, and absolutely nothing happened.  I don't know if I'm going about this wrong or how updating even works, but it certainly isn't through apple software update, and it doesn't seem to be direct, but maybesomething's wrong.  Also skype said to uninstall something boot camp changed and I'm a bit worried about that.
MMORPGS are able to be played on bootcamp, right?  I mean that's my main goal, m yschool network has a guest network that blocks all games so I need to get on it to play anything.

As you can see here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1443 the 3.3 Update is a WIndows 7-only update.
There's nothing in it for Windows XP and therefor does not install.
3.2 Update is the latest for XP http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1333
As for the error message I suspect it can be cured with this http://www.windowsreference.com/general/error-there-is-not-enough-disk-space-whe n-installing-sp3/
And yes, MMORPGs can be played on a Mac with BootCamp Windows.

  • Cannot send messages. Tried all your suggestions, nothing works. Running Windows Vista, problem began after update of Thunderbird on Jan 1

Tried disabling antivirus. Reloaded Thunderbird, version 31.3.0. Neither worked.
Problem began after latest Thunderbird update on January 1, 2015. I am able to send email from my iphone and using webmail. But not from my computer using Thunderbird.

I am on Win 7 64 bit. iTunes and one other program I use could not make a secure connection although I was able to securely connect to online banking, etc. I tried ten different settings I read about in various posts under "Secure Connection" including the links about in your post. Nothing worked.
What finally worked for me was going into Control Panel, then selecting Internet Properties, then going to the Advanced tab, and then scrolling down to the Security section and unchecking "Check for server certificate revocation*" Note that I undid trusted sites (e.g. no trusted sites needed) and undid all the special Norton IS 2009 firewall settings and everything still worked. This seemed to all start with the updates starting with iTunes rev 9 but I can't be sure as I recently upgraded to Win 7 Premium Home from Vista Ultimate.
Hope it works for you. I will post this in a few other discussions on the same as I have not seen anything before that worked in my case.
    Good luck.

  • Running an update statement on two dependent attributes

    Dear All,
I have a repair_job table that contains values for work_cost, parts_cost and total_cost which is the sum of the work and parts cost values. I want to run an update statement that doubles the work cost and, naturally, updates the value of total cost as well. I tried to run it as:
    update repair_job
    set work_cost = 2 * work_cost, total_cost = work_cost + parts_cost
    where licence in (
    select licence from car
    where year = to_char(sysdate,'YYYY')
thinking that because the update of work_cost is first on the list, the updated value of total cost would be correct. It seems however that the update of total cost happens first and then the work cost is been updated; not sure what the reason is for that and it happens no matter what the order is in the update statement.
I know that I can do it in two separate statements, or use a trigger or PL/SQL to do it but I am curious as to why it has this behaviour. Also, is there a way to do it in a single SQL statement - i.e. forcing the update of the work_cost attribute first and then that of total_cost?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Regards,
    George

The update to all columns of the row happen at the same time - there is no order involved.
You don't need two statements but you do need to do the updates based on the current value of the columns.
    set work_cost = 2 * work_cost, total_cost = 2 * work_cost + parts_cost----------
In addition to sb92075's comments in 11 g you could also just define a virtual column for total_cost and then just query it like you do now.
total_cost   NUMBER GENERATED ALWAYS AS (work_cost + parts_cost) VIRTUAL,See this Oracle-base article for an example
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/virtual-columns-11gr1.php
Edited to supplement sb92075's reply by mentioning virtual columns

  • HT3819 Since the last AppleTV update I can no longer use home sharing. chI have checked all IDs, rebooted iTunes, AppleTV, and my router, eck port settings in my firewall. Nothing works. Is it me or did this update screw things up?

Since the last AppleTV update I can no longer use home sharing. I have checked all IDs, re-booted iTunes, my router, and AppleTV, and checked the port settings in my firewall. nothing works. Is it me or did this last update really scew things up?

    Hi,
I tried everythink, but same as before!
    - droppings ot the main screen
    - loosing Home Share
    now even on iPads !
    Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.
I found this feedback site http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will start now with this.... maybe this will help to rise a little bit of attention
    Tweety
This is the mailbody I always use
    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads has two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.
Thanks for every effort in advanced.

  • Macbook air is stuck in a reboot loop after running Software Update.  It looks like a firmware update is failing.

I have a first generation Macbook Air running Lion, and just ran software update to get the latest version of iTunes.  It appears I may have gotten a firmware update mixed in the bunch, and now it keeps trying to run the update at boot, failing, and shutting down.
I can start the restore partition, and the system appears to function, but I cannot figure out how to abort this failing update so I can use my system, and determine which update is breaking it and why. I've tried resetting the firmware, but that didn't change anything.
There's nothing, not even a the CD drive plugged into the Air, so it's not a peripheral problem.
I could restore from backups, but that seems like a very brute force way to get rid of a firmware update loader.
Does anyone know how to disable these little beasts?

Restart the Air while holding down the shift key, this is safe mode. Once in to the login screen, login then hold the shift key again. It will disable login items, which can be the cause of startup problems. Remove all your login items from your user accout and try a restart (Note the login items if you need to re-add essential ones later). If it all works well, then keep an eye on third party startup items, they will cause you grief!

  • Please help!!! Cannot run Windows Update in Win 7 Pro after changing new hard-drive. (X201s)

    Hi everyone,
I have been using my thinkpad x201s for more than one year by now. And recently I change a new and larger hard drive for my laptop. When I tried the thinkpad rescue and recovery disc on the new hard drive, everything works fine except that I cannot run Windows Updates after the installation was finished.  The recovery DVDs were burned directly from the original image stored in the computer when the first I received my laptop last year.
Every time when I try to run the Windows Update, it shows the following: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running, you may need to restart your computer."
I restarted my computer later but nothing changed. Can't run Windows Updates and can't even install IE9.
I then moved back to my old hard drive and everything is normal, no problem with Windows Updates. I also tried to create a back-up image by running win 7 Backups and Restore. Later when I changed back to the new drive and followed the instructions to restore my system from the image I created earlier in a USB drive, it worked except that still the system can't run Windows Updates program.
I'm now getting very confused and upset, is it something to do with the software copyright? It's been a week now and I tried to Google the similar problem but no solutions work here. All I want to do is moving my current system to the new hard drive so that I can continue to use my laptop but it just failed updating every time.
Could anyone kindly tell me what to do when changing hard drive in order to avoid the problem I'm dealing with? Sorry I'm not a pro type user and just want my laptop to work appropriately.
My warranty has already expired so I guess the Lenovo Technical Hotline wouldn't answer my questions anymore. Please help!! Much appreciated.
    Thanks so much in advance!!

I'm not sure this is the issue, but from your description, it seems as though all you have to do is activate the windows update service. If I were you, I'd search for "Services" in the start menu, open it and look for "Windows Update". Check in its properties that it is set to "Automatic (Delayed)", if it isn't, set it, and start the service, you should then be able to check for updates, be careful though that none of your other programs aren't stopping the service, usually these programs are there to "optimize your performance" or "boost your system",...
    Hope this helps.

My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8 and when I'm surfing the web, it tells me I need to update my browser however when I check for updates, nothing comes up. What do I need to do to get Mac OS X Lion v10.7?

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.
