Hello,
I am facing a problem in printing ASCII code between 128 and 159. these codes are displayed as '?'. All the other codes are printed correctly. Please let me know the reason behind this.
Given below is the code for the same
class Codes
public static void main(String args[])
short i = 165;
for (i=0; i<=256;i+=5)
System.out.println(i+" "+(byte)i+" "+(i+1)+" "+(byte)(i+1)+" "+(i+2)+" "+(byte)(i+2)+" "+(i+3)+" "+(byte)(i+3)+" "+(i+4)+" "+(byte)(i+4));
Waiting for a quick reply
rgds,
Sameer1. What are the chars you are talking about? As already mentioned, they are control chars in unicode. What character encoding would you like to use, or in other words, what characters would you like to have for those bytes?
2. The character encoding of the dos console (Cp850 on the windozes I've used) is different from the system's default encoding (Cp1252, IIRC). This will cause problems if you want to print out text having non-ascii characters. For example System.out.println("ÅÄÖ") should print out the last three letters of the finnish alphabet but it prints something else instead. But if you write the text to a file it comes out as it should.
Another character encoding can be used by wrapping an OutputStreamWriter around System.out:
OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(System.out, "Cp850");
PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(osw, true);
out.println("ÅÄÖ");
Similarly, the input read through the standard inputstream in dos (the keyboard input or redirection using "<") is in another encoding and needs to be converted. -
Print Report using ASCII command through printer selection available on windows
Hi,
I'm using Labview 2009 to create a report using Report Generation Toolkit.
Creating a report is not the problem, the problem is I need to print the report manually by sending an ASCII Code.
I noticed that there are few example on send ASCII code command, but neither of them are related to printing.
The printer I use is Panasonic dot matrix printer KX-P1121E with USB port. (Fanfold type of paper)
I used "NI_report_lvclass: Print report.vi" from Report Generation before this to print my report, everything is okay and not receiving any error.
But I noticed that after finish printing, the paper will automatically feed out as if that VI (Print report.vi) is sending out "Form Feed" (FF) Command to the printer.
My application cannot use this method because I need to print a set of data in every minute. If the data only have 2 rows, then it will be a wasting a lot of paper if everytime finished printing paper feeding out. I want the printer to continue standby on the same paper after finished printing previous data. In other words, maybe just manually send "Line Feed or Carriage Return" to the printer.
So I have a few things need to be clarified step by step;
1. How can I send an ASCII Code to my printer? Do you have any example for this? link below is the character of ASCII Codes that can be use :http://webpages.charter.net/dperr/links/esc_p83.htm
2. Can I send a report created by report generation to be printed using this ASCII command method?
3. If my printer is setup by using windows (Meaning: Available on "Printer and Faxes" list), How can I configure the printer setup in sending the ASCII Code?
Really appreciated your reply
Thanks!Hi Zwired1,
Just to make sure I fully understand the situation - I am assuming since you say you are printing to two different printers that when you are using the Print Report.vi you are using the printer name string to specify which printer you would like to print on. And if the printer that you specify is not functioning it automatically prints on the other printer, is that correct?
From looking at the code in the Print Report.vi, it looks like if you specify a printer name in the input string, if there is a problem with that printer or if that printer is unavailable, the VI should not print anything, so please let me know if that is not the behavior you are seeing.
For your question about checking the health of printers, there is a VI in the report gen toolkit called Query Available Printers. You can find it if you open up the Print Report.vi and choose the Standard Report instance, the Query Available Printers.vi is on the block diagram of that VI. It will return the list of available printers and the default printer.
I hope that helps, -
Hi,
I am facing a strange problem. I have to print one bar code in a form window but what happens is that in a specific window the bar code is not printed. If i try to print the same field as a bar code in another window the bar code is printed.
I try the same paragraph formats before i wrote this message and the result is the same, in that window i can not print the bar code.
There are some optiosn that made impossible the bar code print in a specific windows
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Julius Bussche on Sep 10, 2008 11:18 AMHi,
Create the barcode and include the barcode in the paragraph format in smartstyle.Include this smartstyle in the smartforms
after that create the text node for the barcode in your mainwindow and below this text node create one more text node and drag and drop the required fields.

Preferences: Code Editor: Printing: Add File Path and Date to Print Header?
Is there a way to add file full path and date to the print file header for a SQL Worksheet when printing from the Code Editor? So, for example, if my SQL worksheet is called MySQL.sql and is saved to C:\Myfiles\SQL_Code\, I'd like to print the full path 'C:\Myfiles\SQL_Code\MySQL.sql' and today's date as part of the print header along with the page numbers at the top of the code. I see a Java preview in the Preferences: Code Editor: Printing window that mentions a "Today" date but I don't know Java and that is an uneditable preview. I have checked the "Print File Header" check box. Is the file header definition stored somewhere in a configuration file and/or is there a way to modify/customize the default file header?
I am a new user to SQL Nav. version 3.2.20.09 Build-MAIN 09.87. I could do this in SQL Navigator but can't figure it out in SQLDeveloper. Thank you.

First of all,
Unless otherwise you selected some option like page break after/before - both body and header/footer will print on same page in report, so in pdf as well.
If you have difference on report and PDF that you should look into your setup.
If you want more help, please be particular on your issue

I am looking for code to print the several frames of an swf
with one button click. Does anyone have any code for this? If I
have labels and use #p on a label layer will it mess up calling my
other labels?
Many thanks in advance!if you're using Flash 7 or higher, have a look at the
PrintJob class and the examples in the help. This class avoids
requiring labels on frames you want printed. it also can send
several pages at once to the printer, meaning the printer's
dialogue box only appears once. -
How do you change the FILE "print code" resulting printed font size?
I would like to adjust the "Print Code" resulting printed document font size. Though the changes can be made in display font for the Code window via a file or the Preferences Menu, I cannot find the style information to change the Print Code.
ThanksThanks again for your reply.
I would like the code print out font to be a smaller size. Currently, it ls printing at 12 pt Monaco ( I can emulate this exactly by printing the same document in an editor set as Monaco 12pt ). However, the settings (see below) are set at Monanco 9pt. This works on the screen, but not for printing.
http://goo.gl/eXhnz > screenshot of Setting show "smallest".
Yet the code:print gives me more characters per line, resulting in many more pages per printout. The "print preview" shown in my last message is exactly what the printed page looks like as well.
NOTE: with the same settings ("smallest Monaco 9pt), Dreamweaver CS3 on OSX *does* code:print the smaller size, though without color coding. Dreamweaver CS 5 on my system does not.
Thank you.

Hi Experts,
We need to enter a unique ASCII character called 'US' or Unit Separator in a text file being generated through a program.
The ASCII code for US is 31. However when we try and do it programmatically the character '#' is getting populated.
The code is as follows:
DATA : lv_sep type c.
field-symbols : <xfs> type x.
assign lv_sep to <xfs> casting.
<xfs> = 0031.
write lv_sep.
Kindly help us out.
Thanks and Regards,
Ravi BhatnagarHi,
This character is special one, so you can't print it out. In SAP all special charcter which can't be printed are replaced with placeholder #. They are intended to do theri special purpose in flat file, once you open it.
Do the following:
- use fm HR_KR_XSTRING_TO_STRING to convert xstring with value '1F' (30 decimal value) to string
- write this string to certain place in internal string table (where you want later use it in the file)
- download this table as to file
- special character will do its purpose in text file
This is the same functionality as you would be placing Line Feed (0x0A - 10 dec). It would be shown as # but once you open downlaoded file you don't see hash # anymore, but you see that new line in that place.
Hope this is clear

Need help with converting characters to ASCII code
Hey. Im trying to write a program to make Caesar Ciphers by random numbers. This cipher must also wrap from front to end of ASCII code, so that if, for example, the character being ciphered is Z and its being modified by +3, the result ciphered character is not "]", but "c".
Im planning on reading the text that the user inputs (using ConsoleIO) into a string and then seperating each character into a character[]. Then, i would like to find the ASCII code of each character and print out the ASCII code character of the old ASCII code + the modifier.
So far, this is what i have (sorry for the length, i like to space things out so that its easier on the eyes and more organized... X-( ... ):
public class EvanFinalB {
static ConsoleIO kbd = new ConsoleIO();
static String enteredPhrase;
static int phraseLength;
public static void main(String[] args)
System.out.println("Enter a phrase and this program will cipher it into a secret message.");
System.out.println("/nEnter your phrase here:");
//read phrase
enteredPhrase = kbd.toString();
//find length of entered text
phraseLength = enteredPhrase.length();
//declare arrays for the individual characters of the entered text and the ciphered characters
char[] enteredChar = new char[phraseLength + 1];
char[] cipheredChar = new char[phraseLength + 1];
//loop converting of entered text into seperate characters
for(int x = 1; x <= phraseLength; x++)
enteredChar[x] = enteredPhrase.charAt(x);
cipheredChar[x] = cipher(enteredChar[x]);//call cipher() method to find new ciphered character
//wrap from front to end of ASCII code
static char cipher(char enteredChar)
//choose random number to cipher message by
int modifier = (int)(Math.random() * 26) + 1;
if(enteredChar + modifier > 90)//90 is the ASCII code for "Z" which is the last capital letter
cipheredChar = (97 + (modifier - (90 - enteredChar)));//97 is the ASCII code for "a" which is the first lower case letter
return cipheredChar[1];
}The program is obviously in its early stages but (i started creating it today actually), if there is a simple method or anything that i can use to find the ASCII value of a character in order to use enteredChar so that 'enteredChar' is equal to the ASCII code of the new ciphered character, please help me out...Thanks
P.S. If there's an easier way to go about creating a program for Caesar Ciphers, let me know.The following code is from my Java textbook Big Java by Cay Horstmann. It is not my code and it's just to guide you in your own cipher.
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.OutputStream;
import java.io.IOException;
This class encrypts files using the Caesar cipher.
For decryption, use an encryptor whose key is the
negative of the encryption key.
public class CaesarCipher
Constructs a cipher object with a given key.
@param aKey the encryption key
public CaesarCipher(int aKey)
key = aKey;
Encrypts the contents of a stream.
@param in the input stream
@param out the output stream
public void encryptStream(InputStream in, OutputStream out)
throws IOException
boolean done = false;
while (!done)
int next = in.read();
if (next == -1) done = true;
else
byte b = (byte) next;
byte c = encrypt(b);
out.write(c);
Encrypts a byte.
@param b the byte to encrypt
@return the encrypted byte
public byte encrypt(byte b)
return (byte) (b + key);
private int key;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileInputStream;
import java.io.FileOutputStream;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.OutputStream;
import java.util.Scanner;
This program encrypts a file, using the Caesar cipher.
public class CaesarEncryptor
public static void main(String[] args)
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
try
System.out.print("Input file: ");
String inFile = in.next();
System.out.print("Output file: ");
String outFile = in.next();
System.out.print("Encryption key: ");
int key = in.nextInt();
InputStream inStream = new FileInputStream(inFile);
OutputStream outStream = new FileOutputStream(outFile);
CaesarCipher cipher = new CaesarCipher(key);
cipher.encryptStream(inStream, outStream);
inStream.close();
outStream.close();
catch (IOException exception)
System.out.println("Error processing file: " + exception);

Convert char to ascii code and vice versa
HI
Is there any function module to convert char to ascii code and vice versa.
Thanks in advanceHi,
be careful if you have unicode running in your system. URL_ASCII_CODE_GET is platform-dependent so it will return the internal HERX representation of the character in your system - which is hopefully and in most cases ASCII.
Under unicode, we use double-byte characters here. I tried this function and the result CHAR_CODE is '00' regardless what character I specify for TRANS_CHAR. But the coding is so simple I corrected resultig in this sample code:
[P]
convert p_form to ASCII (internal) representation
DATA:
l_ofs TYPE syfdpos,
l_len TYPE sy-linsz,
l_ascii TYPE i.
FIELD-SYMBOLS:
<x> TYPE x.
l_len = STRLEN( p_ascii ).
DO l_len TIMES.
l_ofs = sy-index - 1.
ASSIGN p_ascii+l_ofs(1) TO <x> CASTING.
l_ascii = <x>.
WRITE: l_ascii.
ENDDO.
[/P]
Here, for each character of string p_ascii, the internal (ASCII) representation is determined and written to the output list.
