Assignment Help - Again looking for clarification only

Hi All,
I'm again having some trouble with the second half of an assignment. I had it all working on my computer and it was working without any problems.
Now when I upload to the CSE servers and test I get some some weird errors that I cant track down.
Basically this assignment was to implement a tiny bank system with the ability to deposit, withdraw and transfer. These transactions were read from a file and processed concurrently.
I am having serious issues where it seems like threads just disappear and the stack trace never seems to go all the way down. Instead always throwing a java.lang.NullPointerException in different random Threads about halfway down where I would expect it.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what may be causing it??
As it is an assignment I cannot really post any code but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what may be causing it??There is only one reason for a null pointer exception - something is null.
The stack trace will tell you the exact line that the null pointer is showing up on.
As a wild guess you are using threading a sychronization and expecting something to occur or not occur without considering how threads actually run.

Looking for OD only binding script

Hello everyone,
after several weeks of trying different solutions we are stuck with trusted binding / OD binding in Deploy Studio.
We've added several workstations to our computers and they are renamed by a script this works fine.
The problem is that we have to add those workstations to our Open Directory and then add those workstations via OD to several groups.
The workstation is binded but it doesn't bind correctly.
We can see the OD server in the "Users and Groups" as "connected". But it's only bound locally (can only be seen on the workstation)
But it's not binded as we want it to be.
Our goal is that the workstation needs access to the directory (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Options -> Network Account Server -> Open Directory Access… --> LDAPv3 ...)
And then we have to use "Edit..."-> "bind" .After that the workstation is added to our OD and we can see it in our workgroup manager and add this workstation to the group.
Is it possible to solve this issue with Deploy Studio?
We've already tried to use "Enable trusted binding" but after imaging a workstation there is only the ouput "An error occured while trying to establish a trusted binding with the server "xxxxx",new attempt in 10 seconds..." and "Invalid credentials supplied for binding to the server" in the finalize script and the workstation has to be bound to the OD manually.
But the credentials are 100% correct.We are using the login of your OD-administrator account for the trusted binding.
We've also tried to activate trusted binding without any login information in the fields for "Directory Admin", after that there is no error but the workstation has to be bound manually again.
It would be great if there is anybody who has the same issue and maybe solved it or has any idea what to do here.
Sorry if the english description for several "buttons" aren't exactly,we are using a german version of MAC OS X (10.8.2). I hope everything is easy to understand.

This is my post in the official DPS forums but there wasn't any reply except one that we could use an own OD binding script.
Is there anybody who has a working script?I found one but it has AD inside and I don't know if it's that easy to delete the AD parts from this script.
It would be great if there is someone who could help with this issue.

Please help! Looking for script to insert current date on page.

I currently use a Dreamweaver Extension that lets you insert
current date and time on your web page.
The problem is, I don't know Javascript and cannot edit the
Javascript codes to "remove the time"
I only need the current date that will change every day.
Do you know where I can get this script, I goggled and got
several but I'm looking for something authentic.
Also is it possible to have your page validate when you use
Javascript embedded in your HTML?

With the general Mailbox I got 4 mailboxes. 3 that I always have to be alerted when mail comes in, the general one I have to check in only once in a while. I always have all mailboxes open, however if I have the darn general mailbox in there i loose control over what's important. So I use safari right now for that busy mailbox which is cumbersome.
I just wanted a separate mailbox that doesn't alert me every 2 minutes of incoming mail, yet easy enough to check what's in it when I need it.

make a long story short, I'm desepartely looking for a 30 day trial
os Dreamweaver CS3 but I can't find one. Apparently Dreamweaver CS4
is coming out soon. Any ideas? I'm in a pickle.

Regex question - looking for numbers only

I'm getting a bit stuck with a simple regular expression.
I want to find the records that consist of numbers only. From the example below, I'm looking for just the first record, which has '1234'.
I tried looking for digits, but not alphabetic, but that doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Looking for online only classroom for my child. What do you have?

Toshiba is NOT supplying XP drivers for any of it's laptops that ship with WIndows 7 so if XP is important to you then you'll need to look at some other manufacturer that does supply them or pick a Toshiba that comes with Vista and look on the Product Support Link at the top of this page to verify that it has XP drivers available for it.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

I created a quote form for our sales guys to use in the field and we would like them to be able to have the capability to fill it in on their ipads. Is there an app that will let us do the following:
Fill in a pripriotary form
Click to next field
Force character limits so the text does wrap and print poorly
Edit text after moving on to another field
Printable
Send by email
If an app like this doesn't existion, how much would it cost to commisison someone to create it?

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

Thanks everybody who sent me ideas on how to play a .mov Quick Time Movie Codec HDV 720p50, 1280x720. It's for playing on TV, as well as Mac and PC. Someone suggested H264, but I thought this is for the Internet, not for HD quality 1280x720?
Could it be that the Mac and PC people who can't play it don't have a strong enough video card in their computer? I'm looking at various answers.

if you can't play an HDV file on your computer, it most likely means you don't have the HDV codec on your computer.
It's a free download - google it and you can find it. You will have to drop the codec into your Quicktime library - it's all explained in the download. I've installed it for several people and it solves that problem right away.

Threaded Sudoku solver - Assignment question (NOT LOOKING FOR ANSWERS )

I'm going to be upfront and point out this is an assignment that i'm currently working on and i'm not receiving much in the way of feedback from the class forums.
This is currently a 4th year OO assignment for UNSW Australia.
What I am having trouble doing is figuring out where my program is deadlocking or dying. There have been a number of requirements set out by the assignment, basically no synchronization, no locking. We are able to use volatile, atomic, immutable and thread-local objects. The task is to find all solution for a given N x N sudoku problem using X number of threads. I have successfully built the solver (X = 0) without too much trouble and I thought i had managed to modify the recursive algorithm to suit but unfortunately I think I have come unstuck.
Any generalized tips would be appreciated when implementing threads that utilise checking flags to determine when the thread is finished processing.

Honestly, I think that recursion (as you stated) would be the easiest way to have solved this problem. But as you stated, threads must be used to solve this problem as a requirement of the project...
You could easily launch a Thread each time instead of calling your recursive method... that could possibly result in a crap load of threads, but the idea would work.

I currently use it while gathering data from several websites at the same time. What I did was create and execute() X number of MySwingWorker objects to collect the data, while they are not complete (i.e. MySwingWorker.isDone() is false) I just Thread.sleep(...).
Give it a try. It may suit your needs.

Help! looking for internet camera compatible with Mac

I need help! I purchased a Mac recently and so far I am very happy with it. However, we just had a baby and I'd like to see and hear my baby from my computer at work. At work we use PCs and at home we havea iBook G4. I bought a D-link wireless G internet camera, the DCS-950G, but I could not install it because it requires you to have a PC for initial installation. I've looked around the web but I've been unable to find an internet camera that works with the Mac. I am desperate and frustrated! Does aynone know of an wireless internet camera that works with the Mac? I'd greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.

You do not say which DV camcorder you have. The exact answers to your questions depend upon your camcorder's features and user guide instructions. If you experience problems when you try your camcorder, check your camcorder's users guide instructions. Firewire will be easiest. If you have a Firewire cable to download your DV Video to iMovie, that one will work fine.

Depending upon your camcorder, that may work with additional software and or hardware, but, if your camcorder offers it, Firewire will me much easier.

Usually. This depends on which camcorder you compare with which webcam.
Some people like the image quality of their camcorders better. See John Kennedy's "Cameras and Image Quality", the Sat - October 30, 2004, blog for a comparison. (John's is a very high quality camcorder.)
See this link for my reasons for using a webcam when I do not need portability or highest possible quality. Some of the reasons may be of interest to you.For specifics on how to get going, see my recent response to Tony Keogh. Although Tony asks specifically about a particular Sony model, the specific suggestions I made there should apply to your camcorder, too.
If the above do not get you going, I suggest that you start your own topic and give as many specifics as possible about your system, your problem, and what you have already tried. Your questions deserve the individual attention they will get in a separate topic.
Here are a couple of other suggestions for your consideration:
(1) I see from your other posts that you use Miglia TVMini. Be aware that some AV devices and third-party items can cause possible hardware or software conflicts with iChat.
(2) Also, your system info shows that you are using 10.4.4. I suggest that you update to the latest available version of Tiger using the following method:- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC).
- Finish with another Permissions Repair.The latest Combo Update offers several additions and improvements over the older versions.

Font Issues, Looking for clarification

I am trying to insert pages into a manual. The pages I am inserting are CAD drawings that were created with AutoCAD Civil 3D and printed to pdf.
1) Drawing #1.pdf
2) Drawing #2.pdf
Sometimes when I add the drawings to a new pdf using the insert command, the fonts mess up and show little squares instead of a random letter, such as f or ".
There are about 100 drawings to insert. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Or some settings to check? I thought PDF was supposed to be portable document format.
I have tried a few things such as:
#1 Embed font, #2 Non-embedded font, this makes squares.
#1 Embed font, #2 Embed font, this does not make squares. (Font is the same, ArialMT)

I was hoping to avoid having to reprint all the drawings, in the future I'm going to embed fonts in anything I do to prevent this from happening again. It is frustrating as you will be inserting drawings (from other users) and everything looks good. Then when you insert the 99th drawing, it messes up 30% of the previous drawings fonts.

Looking for clarification

I am relatively new to the Mac environment. Thanks to many if you, I have completed my first FCEHD Project.
I have a question about HandBrake and Streamclip. I hear these programs mentioned and am curious what they are, or in what instances would they be used? I know Handbrake is for ripping DVD, and Streamclip is for conversion? I have MactheRipper, is there a major difference between Handbrake and MTR?
Any clarification would be helpful.

You can use HandBrake to turn DVD files into mpeg4 that you can put straight into iMovie and possibly FCE. If it won't go straight into FCE, put it in iMovie and then export to FCE.
mpeg4 files are possibly not as high quality as mpeg2.
mpeg2 files can be produced by Streamclip and ffmpegX.
However if you want to use Streamclip you will have to buy an item whose name I can't remember but costs around £15 ($20+).
ffmpegX is complete. It is Shareware so you can test it out free of charge but if you intend to use it frequently they would like you to register it for around $15.
I suggest you experiment with HandBrake first as it is the easiest to use and is completely free.
A similar program is OpenShiiva which is very good and equally simple to use:-

PS If I remember correctly, the mpeg4s from HandBrake and OpenShiiva take a very long time to render in FCE before you can use them. I think they are a lot quicker in iMovie.
