Associating custom app with all files of certain extension

I have an applescript which I saved as an application. I want all files with the .url extension to be opened with this app.
If I drag+drop a .url file onto the app's icon, it opens with the app. I can also associate a single file with this app using Finder->Get Info and with RCDefaultApp. However, when I try to associate all .url files with this app, the old app immediately gets reselected. This happens both in Finder and RCDefaultApp.
How can I get the association to work for all .url files?

Perhaps I didn't explain correctly. I go to a .url file and Get Info. Under Open With I browse to my new application (with Always Open With checked) and click ok. Now the info window says Open with: my new app. If I stop here, then this single file will be associated with my app. However, I then click Change All and Continue and now the info window says Open with: Safari. This is the part I meant when I said that it immediately changes back when I try to change all.
Alternately, using RCDefaultApp: I open RCDefaultApp, click on the Extensions tab, and select url. Default Application is Safari. If I change it to Firefox, it stays on Firefox. As opposed to if I select the app I made. If I do this, it flickers as if my app was selected for a moment then the selection reverts to what it was before I selected my app.

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

I have accidentally deleted the proloquotogo app with all it's data. It was on my iCloud backup list so can I know restore all the settings for this app from a previous iCloud backup? I now only have the basic pages instead of all the programmed pages.

I don't understand this answer. What do you mean " your contacts should be in whatever program/service you have selected to sync."? The address book is created on the phone not in Itunes or any other program/service. When Itunes says backing up phone I have to assume it backs up everything on the phone. Most of what's on my phone does not come out of itunes. I download apps directly on the phone. When the software updates it does not bring those apps back. I have to go into the appstore and install them all over again. Itunes music library syncs with whatever is on the device your linked up to BUT the phone book just dissappears after you update the phone. There is no way to save it anywhere else.

Build Application with all files inside .exe

I have a labview project consisting of a few classes and subvi's. Nothing really special. Now when i try to build an .exe file, i get the .exe, an application.ini, an Application.aliases and an data folder (has the classes and dll's within). What i want however is the .exe file with all files inside. So that at the test setup, there is only one file on de dekstop, and not 4. Is it possible to do that?

LabVIEW 2009 and later have a build option (set on per default) that embeds all the classes inside the executable file.
The ini file will always be created, however you can delete it during startup of your executable.
I think you don't need the data folder since that has some DLL already present on your system.
However my advise is to create an installer that puts the executable (and the other files) inside the program files folder. And the installer can create a shortcut to the executable.

I imported a Garageband song from my iPad app with all 8 tracks full, now I want to put on vocal & guitar tracks but it won't let me. Also I have always problems when opening Garageband as I had an external hard drive connected to my Macbook Pro when I first downloaded it. It won't open without the external drive being plugged in. It says invalid instrument library and so on. I have tried trashing the program then reloading it nothing works; so I can't use Garageband unless the external is attached. I was also trying to send the song to Logic 8 but I can't find a video tutorial or relevant info in the manual; although I am thinking of updating Logic to the latest version. AAAGHH!!

I was able to get this to work for deleting single song, but it simply ignored me when I tried to delete whole albums or artists. As there are many thousands of Christmas tracks, deleting one by one was not an option.
When I first started to research this I was not able to find any posts on the subject (because I did not know about the left swipe to delete gesture and so did not search for it). Now that I know I found this post which gives a number of different ways to do this:

At first I tried this option:
If you are trying to batchdelete all music on an iOS device, it can be done.
1) Settings > General > Usage
2) Let the Storage settings load.
3) Click on Music...on next screen, swipe anddelete.
That does zap everything, but it suited my purposes. At first I though this was working, lots of tracks started to go back into the cloud (although this does not happen allat once, it seems to do it in the background over a period of time). The usage screen said I had free space on the iPad, but when I plugged it into iTunes the iPad showed as full and the tracks were all still listed under music.
So I tried this:
You can turn off iTunesmatch and then sync a very small number of tracks via iTunes, which shouldreplace the downloaded tracks with the synced tracks. Then turn Match back on.It's a pain but that is the only way I have found to mass delete.
Which did the trick, but is something of a nuclear option.
Looks like Apple have some work to do here. Deleting a track at a time or everything in one go is too clumsy. You need to be able to delete Albums, Artists or Genres in the sameway you can delete songs. I wish there was a way of reporting bugs like this to Apple, but short of signing up to be a developer, there does not seem to be away. If anyone reading this is a developer, perhaps you can get a paste the text into a bug report.

Of course, the fact that Apple doesn't even have a feedback category for the App Store might be some indication of how much they care.

Slow scrolling with all add-ons and extensions disabled, but OK is safe mode

I have a page for work, with a lot of links, that scrolls very slowly, with a choppy action. It is the same with all add-ons and extensions disabled. But when restarted in safe mode, the scrolling is OK.
What else does the safe mode block? Or what could be the problem.

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

App-v packages not getting distributed with all files to DP's

I am migrating appv 4.6 packages from standalone to sccm 2012 , using application model in sccm,
all seems to be fine , but sccm is not distributing the folders,vbscripts, etc except osd,xml,sft,sprj.. to DP
what is the issue any resolution for this.
app has lot of dependency on vbscripts to run.

That's most likely fine because ConfigMgr stores the content in the contentlib. Also see that all files have the .INI extension. You can use Content Library Explorer (part of the R2 toolkit) to examine the package.

Text variables are missing after making a custom variable with no files open????

I made a customer text variable with no files open hoping to make it available to ALL my files. Well, that backfired... when I open an existing file I can't see any variables unless I go and make a new one.
The text variables only show up when I make a new file.
Any way to fix this?

That is how any preference, including variables, work. All new files inherit these items, existing files are left alone. If you need those variables in existing files, you can import them from an existing file that has them...which would be any new file that would contain them.
For the above, go to Type, Text Variables, Define, then load, navigate to any document that has them, make sure the variables you want to include into the existing/former document are checked. If there will be a clash, you can choose what to do.

Deploying Custom Image with Answer File

Hi everyone!
I'm in the process of making a custom image for ~25 computers, using WAIK (no network so no MDT, WDS...). I followed Technet's "Step-by-Step: Basic Windows 7 Deployment for IT Professionals", and installed from original Win7 Ultimate Retail
Media, with an answer file. Finally I customized that install and now have a properly set-up install, in audit mode and waiting to be generalized.
I'd like to deploy this custom install with an answer file/configuration set, in order to auto-install some drivers and hardware-specific apps, answer typical questions, etc...
But I must admit, I'm a bit unclear as to how to proceed from there. So I'm going to state how I understand it, and would love you to correct me where I'm wrong!
On reference computer, run syprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown
Boot to WinPE, capture image with ImageX
Open the resulting custom.wim in WSIM, generate a catalog file
Make Answer File + Configuration Set, copy them to the root of an empty UFD
Replace the Original Win7 Media's install.wim with my custom.wim, make bootable UFD
Deploy to other computers with the 2 UFD's
Does that sound right to you? Am I missing something? Also, should I be running sysprep with a /unattend:xxx.xml switch (not sure how that works)?
Bonus Question:
I'd like to use the Answer File + Configuration Set to perform some silent installs via script. Could you point me to a relevant Technet (or 3rd party) resource for that?

If you are doing the "replace install.wim" option, then you are installing using Setup. In this scenario, Setup will ignore the answer file specified in the image with the /unattend switch with Sysprep. So it would be unnecessary to prepare the
image with that switch.

Anyways, I'd rather use an autounattend.xml in another UFD, which I can replace for any different hardware type, partition layout, etc...

Re-associating play-lists with moved files

I know this topic comes up a lot but I am not clear on the answer. How do I Re-associate play-lists with moved files?
I used to have all my music stored under- Music/My Music, on my Macs HD. ( I did not use the iTunes folder in the same music directory)
I then moved the entire Music folder to an external hard drive.
Is there a simple way of re-associating all my playlists to Music/My Music, on my external drive with one setting?

As Katrina says it is easiest, if possible, to switch the letters back. It would help, however, to be precise about what has changed as it may be that with a little assistance iTunes can cope with the change.
If, for example, your database files are still on drive C: and you had relocated the *iTunes Media* folder to say *D:\iTunes Media*, which is now *E:\iTunes Media* then changing the media folder location in iTunes preferences, followed by closing & reopening iTunes ought to resolve things.
If things were more randomly organised, i.e. not inside the iTunes Media folder, then it becomes harder. It is possible, in principle, to write a script which performs a seach and replace on the iTunes track paths, but because iTunes won't report the original location of a "missing" file this is not so eash to do in practice. I do however have a script I'm working on that can switch the location from A to B if the file can be made to appear in both locations using say a Junction or Symbolic Link or a SUBST command. Once all the files have been remapped the Junction/SymLink or SUBST could be removed.

Are you trying to convert your files from within Adobe Reader? If so, please make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Earlier versions of Reader could cause the specific error that you're reporting.
