Danke, LeonieDF, I imported a Garageband song from my iPad app with all 8 tracks full, now I want to put on vocal

I imported a Garageband song from my iPad app with all 8 tracks full, now I want to put on vocal & guitar tracks but it won't let me. Also I have always problems when opening Garageband as I had an external hard drive connected to my Macbook Pro when I first downloaded it. It won't open without the external drive being plugged in. It says invalid instrument library and so on. I have tried trashing the program then reloading it nothing works; so I can't use Garageband unless the external is attached. I was also trying to send the song to Logic 8 but I can't find a video tutorial or relevant info in the manual; although I am thinking of updating Logic to the latest version. AAAGHH!!

Thank you, that's very helpful.
I was able to get this to work for deleting single song, but it simply ignored me when I tried to delete whole albums or artists. As there are many thousands of Christmas tracks, deleting one by one was not an option.
When I first started to research this I was not able to find any posts on the subject (because I did not know about the left swipe to delete gesture and so did not search for it). Now that I know I found this post which gives a number of different ways to do this:
http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1276850.html
At first I tried this option:
If you are trying to batchdelete all music on an iOS device, it can be done.
1) Settings > General > Usage
2) Let the Storage settings load.
3) Click on Music...on next screen, swipe anddelete.
That does zap everything, but it suited my purposes. At first I though this was working, lots of tracks started to go back into the cloud (although this does not happen allat once, it seems to do it in the background over a period of time). The usage screen said I had free space on the iPad, but when I plugged it into iTunes the iPad showed as full and the tracks were all still listed under music.
So I tried this:
You can turn off iTunesmatch and then sync a very small number of tracks via iTunes, which shouldreplace the downloaded tracks with the synced tracks. Then turn Match back on.It's a pain but that is the only way I have found to mass delete.
Which did the trick, but is something of a nuclear option.
Looks like Apple have some work to do here. Deleting a track at a time or everything in one go is too clumsy. You need to be able to delete Albums, Artists or Genres in the sameway you can delete songs. I wish there was a way of reporting bugs like this to Apple, but short of signing up to be a developer, there does not seem to be away. If anyone reading this is a developer, perhaps you can get a paste the text into a bug report.

  • Problem Exporting Garageband songs from an iPad to an iMac

    To Whom It May Concern:
I cannot get songs from Garageband on my iPad2 to load on Garageband for my iMac.  My iPad and iMac are both up-to-date.  When I first attempted to open the transported (.band) file, it said that I needed to update Garageband...but now it will not actually complete the download or update.  If I try to open a transported file now, it just claims that the download cannot be completed.  When I try to update Garageband manually, it claims to be up-to-date.  The whole reason I bought an iPad was to work on music away from home, but so that I would be able to transfer the music files to my iMac.  This is obviously not working.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

If you can't find your answer here then try the Garageband forums.

  • How can I export a garageband song from one Ipad to another?

I am collaborating on a music project with someone who lives far away.  We both have Ipads, same model, both have Garageband.  He emailed me a copy of a song, but there does not seem to be a way to easily import it to my garageband so I can add tracks to it. Is it possible?  I did a search but did not find an article related to doing this.

And it can only be transferred to a MAC, right?
You can transfer it to a Mac with iTunes or iCloud. When two devices are using the same AppleID you can transfer with iCloud between iPads, iPhones, etc.Only iCloud is not feasable, since you would not want to use the same AppleID.

How can I delete songs from my iPad? Thanks all!

Depends on how they were put on your iPad in the first place.
    1.  If purchased on iPad, in Music app > Songs swipe the song you want to delete to the right and a delete box appears
    2.  If synced from iTunes on your computer, you need to connect your iPad to your computer via USB and delete them there.

When you set up a Smart Playlist, it automatically populates the list with songs. You don't have to do anything. Now, you may not have set it up properly, meaning your set up fails to recognize any songs.
If you just want to put music in a Playlist, just create one, give it a name. Then drag the music from the "music" list to the playlist. It copies the information there. And when you sync the Playlist to your iPhone, all the music goes.
It's truly easy, but there is a bit of a learning curve until you're good at it. Keep asking questions here, everyone will help you. But do read the Apple documents, they lay out pretty straightforward.

  • HT4527 Cannot import songs from my iPad/iPhone to my iTunes Library

When I format my computer, all of the songs in my iTunes are gone. This is normal. But then, how come I cannot import all of my songs from my iPad/iPhone to my iTunes Library.

That's normal too. iTunes is designed to transfer purchases only. Ideally you would have backed up your library and personal data before reformatting.

  • How do I delete just songs from the iPad?

In an attempt to move my iTunes library, I have now gotten way out of whack with my music.  I deleted all songs from iTunes and re-imported (sacrificing my play counts, etc., but I didn't know what else to do), and that works, but it leaves my iPad in a state of confusion.  So I would like to remove all music from the iPad and just start over and re-sync, but I am having no luck with that.
    Here are things I've tried:
Re-syncing after re-importing the library to iTunes.  After that, I can see a full list of songs on the iPad, but 80% of them are grayed out and not playable.
Deleted all the iTunes library files (the itdb's, the itl's and the xml) so that when iTunes opened, it would give me the fresh screen and show no music.  Then I synced the iPad--it told me it was going to erase everything on the iPad b/c it was synced to a different library (presumably my old library), and I said okay, and it synced, and somehow there are still about 200 songs on there.  No idea how those songs "survived," but they did.
I tried going to Settings -> General, and I see an option for "Reset All Settings", and right under it "Erase All Content and Settings," but inexplicably, there is no option for "Erase All Content and Leave the Settings Alone!"  I'm not sure why of those three things, they think the first two are important to users, and the last one isn't.
Ideally I would not like to reset my iPad, as I don't want to lose all my app data and that kind of thing--anybody know an easy way just to wipe all song media from the iPad?  Thanks!

You can't without a third party app. If you didn't purchase the Music with your Apple ID or if the music was imported from CD's on your friends iTunes library, syncing will not work ....nor will transferring purchases.

  • Is there any way to retrieve or get my songs from my iPad 1 st generation to transfer it to my PC?

Hello there. I just want to ask something about my songs on my iPad 1st generation.
Since iPad 1st gen is an old model of iPad, I am using IOS 5.1.1, and my PC is only windows 7.
Okay, my iPad has all my favorite songs and videos. Without me knowing, my brother reformatted my PC. All my original copy of songs and videos were in my PC. But those didn't I purchase from iTunes. Now, I do not have the original files.
Is there any way to get my songs from my iPad to transfer it to my PC?
If so, what are the processes?
I really want to get the songs from my iPad.
I hope I could get those songs from my iPad. Please help me.
    Thank you so much.

No, I'm afraid not. If you choose to remove personal data when uninstalling Firefox the all Firefox profile folders are removed. Not only from the current Firefox version, but from others as well if you have other Firefox builds installed. This choice should be used with much care.
You can try to recover some data with an undelete utility like Recuva.

  • How do I transfer songs from my iPad to my computer

I just got an iPad...I bought songs on iTunes but I don't know how to transfer the songs from my iPad to my computer

You can use the transfer the purchases feature to put the music into itunes on your computer. Read the instructions copied from......
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
If you want to transfer iTunes Store purchases from an iOS device or iPod to a computer, be sure to authorize the computer before connecting the device. To authorize, follow these steps:
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize Computer.
In the dialog that appears, the Apple ID button is selected by default.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click the Authorize button.
If the iTunes Store purchases on your device were purchased with multiple accounts, you will need to authorize the computer for each one.To transfer iTunes Store purchases from your device to a computer, follow these steps:
Connect your device to the computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, the following dialog may appear:
    Click the Transfer Purchases button.
Important: Clicking Erase and Sync will delete any existing content currently on your device. The content will be replaced with whatever existing content is in the current iTunes library your device is connected to. If there is no content in the iTunes library, nothing will be synced to your device, and your device will be empty.
iTunes will begin copying any purchases made with any account for which the computer is authorized.
If when you connect your device you are not prompted by the dialog above, it could be that the option "Do not ask me again" was previously selected. Fortunately, there are two more ways you can copy your purchases from your device.
After connecting your device to the computer and its icon appears in iTunes, you can choose Transfer Purchases from "Your device name" from the File menu.
Or, you can right-click (Windows or Mac) or Control-click (Mac only) your device in the iTunes Source list, then choose Transfer Purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
Please note that this feature only works for items that were purchased on the iTunes Store. Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library.

  • How do I transfer songs from my iPad to my iTunes library?

How can I transfer songs from my iPad to my iTunes account?  I want to update my iPads but I don't want to lose all the songs that aren't in my iTunes account yet.

Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and you should be able to copy iTunes purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). If any of the music wasn't purchased from iTunes and you don't have it on your computer nor on a backup then you will need to find a third-party program which copy them over - there are some listed half-way down this page.
You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

How can I delete a single song from my iPad?

    Hi lizdance40,
The first part of your answer worked great, thanks for that!  However, since doing that, there are still songs on the iPad that I want to delete. I place my finger on the song, swipe to the left....and nothing. No red "delete" appears at the right. That used to work on my full size iPad, but not on this mini. I just purchased it last Friday...maybe it's defective?
    Thanks again,

  • When I try to delete a song from my ipad, why does it still show up as being on it in iTunes?

Just like the question says, Ive deleted the songs from the ipad and when i look in the ipad, they show up grey.

You don't need to delete them form iTunes on your computer. Notice the dotted circles next to the songs. That indicates that the songs are essentially in limbo. They may not be on your iPad or they might appear in the Music app but will not play.
Sometimes unsyncing those songs will totally remove those ghost traces of the music nd sometimes, you have to restore the iPad to get rid of those traces of the songs.
If you Google "grey dotted circles next to songs in iTunes" you will find a plethora of articles that talk about this.
