ATI Driver Package GCC4 Problem

Hi,
I'm following this tutorial to build an ATI driver package, but I'm getting these errors:
/var/abs/local/ati-drivers/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/nvidia-agp.c:57: error: static declaration of '__fgl_agp_try_unsupported' follows non-static declaration
/var/abs/local/ati-drivers/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/agp_backend.h:92: error: previous declaration of '__fgl_agp_try_unsupported' was here
After googling around, the problem seems to be with GCC versions (I'm using 4.0.1, the driver probably uses 3.x.x).  Then this post pointed me to a patch.  Pardon my ignorance, but how do I use this patch?  Or are there any other options available?
Thanks!
Will

I saved it as a .patch file in {driver dir}/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod and it works!

I installed the latest ATI driver package for my S206 having upgraded to Windows 8.1
The machine rebooted and comes up with the lock page. I log in as normal and now I have a screen display that flashes on and off and I cannot get it to respond.
    Help!!!!!

Hi probertson, welcome to the forums,
sorry you've had no response till now.  This is primarily a peer to peer forum provided by Lenovo, there is a Lenovo presence but they can't unfortunately address every question.
That said, I just visited the support site and it looks as though a new AMD driver was released today, hopefully it solves your situation.

  • Overheating the laptop - Ati driver problem (SOLVED)

    Hi ppl.
I have Acer Aspire 5732 Z laptop. Intel Pentium processor T4400 2.2 GHz. Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512 MB VRAM, 15.6", 3 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD.
I successfully solved all the problems during the installation, but this one I can not handle. The laptop is HEATING too much. I also have Ubuntu 9.10 on the other partition and its all fine. Its working on the temperature of ~46 C. And my Arch is working on the temperature of ~60 C. So its about 15 C difference between Ubuntu and Arch. Way too much.
Arch is running in KDE mode. Have to add that I installed all KDE packages. Maybe the cause of this problem ?
I am using the proprietary Ati Radeon driver. I tried to change it with open source Ati driver but Xorg refused to configure again (gave me a blank screen).
I checked Wiki on laptop, but didnt succeded to solve this problem. Here s my rc.conf:
    MODULES=( acpi-cpufreq )
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus hal !acpid !acpi-support powernowd wicd !network !netfs alsa crond laptop-mode kdm)
    powernowd configuration:
    OPTIONS="-q -u 30 -l 10"
acpi-support is blacklisted because I installed it from AUR and didnt managed it to work. Its just saying "no permission" during the boot. I actually installed it because I read that its Ubuntus Acpi management. ~ I repeat Acpi is working fine on my Ubuntu.
I can also show my laptop-mode configuration files - if needed.
I am a newbie for Arch but I rlly done my best on this issue as I want to use this system. I think its great and highly configurable and I just love the fact its a rolling distro. But I cant use it overheating.
    So, please help.

I am using lmsensors on Arch and some kind of panel sensor on Mint, but its ok for sure. Few minutes ago I checked temperature on Arch and it was 56 C. Then I rebooted and when I logged into Mint it was 56 C. But few mins later temperature normalized to 45 C in Mint. After lsmod I logged into Arch again and temperature raised to 54 C.
So its Arch problem for sure.
    @hokasch
I am not sure about noise level of fans. Sounds similar to me. But maybe its a fan problem. I know its sometimes loud and sometimes silent. Probably depends on the system temperature. Maybe Arch cant control it normaly. Is there any kind of software that is used for fan speed ?

  • ATI Driver Problem - Encore CS5

    Hi All,
I have spent a number of hours now trying to troubleshoot an issue with Encore CS5.  I have it installed on a HP 6930p Notebook computer with a ATI HD3400 onboard video card.  Whenever Encore starts, my screens go black and I get an error "display driver stopped responding and has recovered".  I have the latest (22nd October 2010) drivers installed and I have tried changing nearly every setting for the display card, but to no avail.  It is obviously the driver, because if I change the driver back to the standard Microsoft driver, the software works, but with limited resolution and without the ability to extend screens.  If I also revert to the oldest version of the ATI driver, it doesn't black out, just crashes with a "application has stopped working" error.
Now I could just keep changing drivers when I use Encore, but this is a bit extreme and you would think it would work.  All my other CS5 software works ok...  PPro, AE, Photoshop, InDesign etc.
Operating System is Windows 7 Enterprise 64Bit with 4GB Memory.
Anyone got any suggestions or advice?  Or is anyone else having a similar issue and managed to solve the problem?
I could always install my older version of Encore CS4, but does installing Encore CS4 after CS5 has been installed cause any issues or problems?  Is this the easiest answer?
    Regards, John.

You have to do what you have to do, but I would be reluctant to settle for EN CS4 with a CS5 suite - dynamic link is further improved, and you'll be giving that up or complicating it.
(Yes, there are some users with problems, particularly doing Bluray, and they refer to using CS4 at times to fix things.  I like dual installations.)
No real idea on the video card issues.  I do think it is interesting that it is only Encore.

  • Satellite P200D - Problem with ATI Driver (atikmdag)

    Hello,
    My System:

    The Problem:
Blank screen, computer is shutting down from it self, or the Comment from Vista: Driver atikmdag caused a Problem and would restore.
Every time the Computer shuts down from it self, Vista gives me the answer that atikmdag caused the Problem.
Yesterday I've tried to Benchmark the System but at the End of the Program the Display flares and Computer is shutting down.
    My Question:
Is a newer Driver for the HD 2600 in work or has anybody the straight tip for me?

    Hello,
Display Driver is newest version: 8.383.1.1 this version was on the computer as i bought it
I'm running the Display Driver only in Factory Settings
No, I've tried to Test the System with the new version of 3D Mark 06 but at the End of the Test procedure the display flared and computer has crashed.
Problem is also with Medal of Honor or Battlefield 1942. Computer crashed and Vista gives me the comment that atikmdag had caused the Problem
Recovery was succesful but the same Problem with the ATI Driver

  • Ati open source driver dual head problem

I have an AMD FirePro M5950 video card in my laptop. Using the open source ATI driver I can't seem to get my dual monitor setup working and GDM won't even start. However KDM is working.
Still, the problem I am having with KDM can be viewed in the following image.
The display somehow starts a little left from the middle of the screen. When I continue moving the mouse to the right the mouse appears on the left part of the screen.
How can this weird offset be fixed? Do some log files help, which one?

append "nomodeset" in the bootloader, before booting, maybe that will fix the issue.

  • FYI: ATI  9.2 driver package

ATI 9.2 driver package is posted on their website. No mention of Adobe fixes. However, people with un-stable 4870 cards may be happy.

Same with NVIDIA drivers. Are you excited to learn that the latest driver has a 11% performance increase in Left 4 Dead at high resolution with AA? (Yawn.) But never a mention of any fixes for any Adobe products.

i have a problem with the ati driver 8.20.8.
i have installed it from the community tree.
    pacman -S ati-drivers
it installed a kernel *ck and the ati driver.
    after that i do a
    fglrxconfig
my xorg.conf ist correct. fglrx is enterd at driver and the dri section is availabil.
3D isnt availabil, look at this screenshot.
you can see that the mesa driver is loaded.
    whats wrong ?
    thanks for you help!

Hi, I have the same problem. I uninstalled mesa and I still get this line
OpenGL renderer string: MESA GLX indirect (which I obviously shouldn't).
Moreover the X log file is trying to convince me that I have direct rendering:
    bash-3.00# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep Direct
    (II) fglrx(0): Direct rendering enabled
    whereas running
    bash-3.00# glxinfo | grep direct
    direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    claims the opposite
    10x in advance
    (btw. kernel 2.6.14archck4-1, xorg 11R6.8.2)
EDIT: After a reboot even glxinfo thinks that DRI is enabled, which is obviously not the case (foobillard is running real slooooooow) ... strange things are going on...

  • Satellite Pro L670-14p upgraded to Windows 8 - ATI Driver out of date

    Hi,
Recently installed Windows 8 as part of a dual boot system on my laptop. I went to try to play one of the games I usually play under Windows 7 to find it would not even attempt to start as the graphics drivers were out of date... I've searched the Toshiba website for compatible drivers, only to find the newer laptops supported... I've looked around the internet and there is no mention of Windows 8 compatible drivers for the L670-14p.
I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
As I dual boot, its not really that big an issue, since I can go back to 7, but what about your less techincally minded customers, that have installed Windows 8 on fully capable computers, but the woeful lack of driver updates has now made that process a nightmare for them?
I have always bought Toshiba, since I use my laptop for both business and pleasure... my old Tosh, an Equium is still going strong, no issues at all... but I'm afraid the indifference of Toshiba towards driver updates is staggering, especially for modern machines. The inability and shortsightedness to not fully support a major new OS on release such as Win 8 is quiet frankly pathetic....
I'm sure other laptop manufacturers that actually update their drivers will be thankful for Toshiba's business

    > I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
In the past Toshiba has offered very good support for different operating systems. I understand you very well but problem is that with Win8 many things are new and Microsoft is player that defines new rules.
In my opinion Toshiba and any other notebook manufacturers offer just hardware package and take care that everything works stabile and user friendly.
Notebook manufacturers offer numerous new notebook models every year and it is not possible that they will go back and offer full support for old models.
I dont know how it works exactly but I dont think Toshiba make this ATI driver. This driver is from hardware manufacturer. What Toshiba do is testing, make some corrections or limitations and offer it for the customers. Thats all.
I have checked which GPU is inside in your notebook. It is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and this card was used on older models. Unfortunately none of them is supported for Win8.
I know it is maybe stupid situation now but we had the same problem in the past when Microsoft has offered Vista and later Win7. Just specific models were supported.
At the end I must say that Im pretty sure that you will remove Win8 from the system pretty soon when you see how it works.

  • Open source ati driver -- garbled graphics

I'm trying to run an openGL game (Uplink-demo) with the open source ati driver, but I just get strange garbled graphics. It's not the card or the game either -- I installed opensuse 10.2 on this same box the other day and had no problems running the game. Even XGL worked surprisingly. But opensuse is a pig next to Arch though so I'm hoping for a fix Here is the result:
    Help! :S
BTW, I can't run the closed source fglrx driver because my card is no longer supported (Radeon 9000, rv250 chipset). The legacy drivers ATI provides don't seem to install with Xorg 7.2.

If you tried the fglrx package first did you reinstall libgl or is it libdri? The exact one is in the wiki something having to do with them being the same name but different internally so one is downloaded based on which driver you have...or something like that.
Also do you have the right mesa? This is am totally guessing you do have. But I received weird issues once very similar to yours when I tried to do things with out mesa...
Well, I've never installed fglrx on this box since I already knew about the incompatibility regarding ati cars older than r300. So that's taken out of the equation. Is there a different mesa? I only see one in the packages.
On a whim, I decided to try a fresh install of Arch. I installed xorg, xf86-video-ati, and  gnome + extras -- I basically got the same result. So it's either something missing in my xorg config or I'm missing some gl lib. I hope. Dunno

  • ATI Radeon X1600 GPU problem

I purchased a MacBook Pro with an ATI Radeon X1600 GPU in 2006. Several weeks ago the GPU failed and I was advised that a replacement logic board was needed and this would cost upwards of £500 by various Apple authorised repair centres that I contacted.
The system is not worth £500 in working condition.
It appears that I am not the only one that has found this issue, long after the warranty on the system had expired. In addition a number of people have began on online petition to raise awareness of the situation.
Several months ago a more recent MacBook Pro (circa 2008) with an NVIDIA GPU failed and I was able to have the logic board replaced for free as this was a known fault, even though my system was out of warranty.
I was very annoyed to find that the hardware defect in ATI GPU's has not resulted in the same replacement program. I therefore had to pay an engineer to attempt to fix the system through a component level repair, which failed. My 4 year old system that cost me a lot of money is now dead.
I expected a lot more longevity from this system, and I am sorely disappointed. I am feeling a little ripped off.
    I am the current of owner of a iPhone 4 (2010), MacBook Pro 13" (2010), iMac (2010), iPhone 3G (2008), MacBook Pro 15" (2008) and one dead MacBook Pro 15" (2006).
As you can see I have spent a lot of money on Apple products and accessories, My very first purchase has now died due to ATI GPU failure and I have already replaced a logic board on a 2008 system due to an NVIDIA GPU failure.
I have never hesitated to recommend Apple products before, until now!
I'd like Apple to acknowledge this issue and offer customers with the faulty hardware replacement logic boards, I'd expect Apple to recover this cost from ATI who manufactured the faulty hardware.
I hope that this post serves to raise awareness of the issue and prompts an appropriate response.
    Thanks for reading.
    Dave.

Your instructions basically work because you're deleting the ATI display drivers, so OS X defaults to no hardware acceleration. In the very long "display anomalies" thread to which you linked, this seems to be related as a pretty common solution.
This is not a solution IMO. It's basically telling your computer not to use the built-in video card for much more than a frame buffer. Why is this a bad thing? Well, while it eliminates the anomalies and inevitable freezing, it also makes your computer unusable for anything requiring hardware acceleration (which is a lot of things these days, including 3d games and HD video playback, though the latter can still work albeit more slowly).
You claim that the problem is due to bugs in the ATI driver, but there are two issues with that theory: 1. the problem also happens under Windows via Boot Camp, using several different versions of ATI's Catalyst drivers that support the R500 family (which the X1600 is a member of); and 2. these sorts of anomalies tend to be usually indicative of hardware failure. For example, the nvidia 8800 series famously had similar issues (more and more graphical anomalies followed by eventual lock-ups), which were ultimately caused by hardware failure relating from many heat cycles.
In this case, the thing that seems closest to the truth to me came in a forum post over at the WoW forums (see the last post, by member "Flloyd"):
    Flloyd's post
(Linking to the Google cache because the original seems to have been deleted.)
    Quoting the relevant part here:
"There has been a lot of discussion an Apple forums and other forums about these issues with the Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) version 1.1 MBPs with the x1600 GPU. The general consensus is that it is definitely a hardware problem and someone mentioned that Apple knows internally that it is an issue with the solder connection between BGA packages and the main board. These machines came out right around when manufacturers were just starting to become ROHS compliant, (the standard that forbids the use of solder containing lead in electronics,) and so it is not surprising to me, (having dealt with some similar issues from the point of view of the manufacturer at work,) that these problems are happening. The lead-free solder is much more brittle than the old kind and solder joints that crack after many thermal cycles are a common problem that everyone trying to use the lead-free solder has had to confront. That being said, Apple still needs to fix this, because anyone who bought one of these would have had no expectation of this kind of failure and many would have bought something else if they knew this was a possibility."
Thus, the little BGA solder balls become worse over time, and when heated enough (i.e. when the GPU load becomes great enough for long enough, which is when people usually report the problems to occur at first), may start to get a bad connection to the logic board, as a result of thermal expansion or lower conductivity or a combination of things.
Now, I'm not 100% sure that this is the answer, but it seems most plausible to me. The other common explanation for this is that the thermal paste is applied unevenly on the GPU, or that the thermal paste gets old. However, while people report getting fewer anomalies after re-applying thermal paste, the problems usually stick around and once again start to get worse over time. My theory here is that while re-applying thermal paste helps with lowering GPU temps and lowering the frequency of the symptoms, it doesn't solve the underlying issue. You can get the same effect (lower GPU temps) by downloading and using the Fan Control preference pane or downloading and using the smcFanControl application to increase fan speed. Like re-applying thermal paste, this would decrease GPU temps (and thus incidence of graphical anomalies and eventual lock-ups), but not eliminate the problem.
It's sad that Apple doesn't (and likely won't) acknowledge this problem as a hardware defect. As far as I know, the issue manifests itself only after several years of use, which is when warranty (even AppleCare) has run out. Those who are lucky enough to have had the Macbook under warranty when symptoms first appeared just had their logic boards replaced for free, and later reported the same problems appearing after a few years with the new logic boards (which predictably contained the same hardware flaw). As I've said before, I'm not 100% confident in this particular explanation, but I am 100% confident that it's a hardware issue.
So nowadays, people generally have the choice of either buying a new laptop or forking over $300-600 for a new or used logic board to extend the life of the Macbook for a few more years, which would inevitably fail again. There is hope though: the aforementioned nvidia cards (the GeForce 8800 series) with the hardware flaw were eventually recalled and replaced for free, but a lot of people have reported resurrecting their dead cards using this unorthodox method:
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1553073
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1470144
The same method also worked for people with different failing cards (even built-in laptop GPUs, such as we are talking about here), and not just the GeForce 8800 series. I might try this out in a week or so and see if it works for me and report back. I just don't know if it's worth it -- this is my primary work laptop and I can't afford to have to mess around with getting a new one in the middle of the school year if it dies in the process. Not to mention the fact that while the problem certainly is annoying, since I have to save my work every few minutes in anticipation of the computer locking up, it's certainly not critical.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 300/400 (M375nw & M475dn) - Driver packages will not install

    Hello all,
I need some assistance with a very persistent and frustrating issue trying to get driver software packages for our LaserJet M375nw & M475dn to install correctly. We are running Windows 7 Pro x64 on HP 8300 desktop PCs.
We have these printers printing properly via our print server and the proper .inf driver but need the ability to scan to the PC. I would like to install the HP-provided software packages (which include the Scan driver & utility) but am running into the error below.
"A problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system. Please restart your computer, and run this installer again. If the problem persists, please check the product support web site for your product."
I get this error at 80% in the "preparing to install" process. I am using the latest drivers from the website for each of these models (which actually use the same package). I have tried both the Full and Basic driver package with the same results.
We have these printers installed via a static IP on the Network, not USB. I am trying to install as a Local Administrator. UAC is disabled. The PC is fully updated and doesn't have much in the way of custom software. It has SCCM client, MS SQL Native Client, Google Earth, Adobe, Trend Micro AV, OnBase, Office 2007 and Chrome installed.
Here are some of the things I've tried w/o success:
Tried installing with latest drivers from HP website
    Ran all Windows updates
Ran the Scrubber uninstaller provided in the package / Running "uninstall" executable from HP software
Disabled all non-MS startup programs/services in msconfig, disabled Antivirus, rebooted, tried to again
Restarting computer (many, many times between different troubleshooting steps)
Tried disabling "Smart Install" (though I think this only applies to USB connections)
Checked print spooler - it indeed is started/running properly
    Uninstalled all HP-branded software
Can any of you offer some help please? I'm not sure what to try next.
