ATT00001.htm attachment in Outlook when sent with Apple Mail - SOLVED!

Hi All,
We recently discovered the problem where emails with attachments sent from Apple Mail were being received in Outlook, blank but with BOTH the attachment and the email itself as an ATT00001.htm attachment!
I've discovered that the problem kicks in if the attachment is placed BEFORE the email message! If I write an email and then add an attachment AFTERWARD, ie. below the text, there is no problem.
I hope this helps...

Hi, you could try Universal Mailer plugin (http://noware-it.zxq.net), it solves this issue by correctly handling attachments. This also solves the problem for inlined images, which can now be correctly seen by recipients.
PS: following Apple's forum rules I have to state that, since I'm the developer of Universal Mailer, I might make some profits from it. Also, on the website you can find a free version of the plugin, which has some limitation but can be used to test its functionality.

    Title:
Mac Mail att htm issue in outlook
    Question:
I'm using mac original mail software. I did set my HTML style template. The software is best ever.
And works good when I send email to outlook users on PC. However if I attach PDF for example, it does go through and outlook users get it, however when they open message all they see.
    - attached PDF
    - and att00001.htm file which has inside email text
Not everybody gets idea to open it and thy think it is empty email. The same email will be sent to apple user everything looks properly. Why email text is converting into the htm file? It happens only if i attach something to my message, if I don't then email text is not being converted to htm attachment.
I think there are a lot of user that know this issue, did anybody find a solution yet?
    Thank you
    jhyiesla:
I don't think there is anything you can really do about it.
I think that it's how the receivers program is going to interpret it.
For example, I sent an email to my Outlook account from my Mac with just an attachment; no text. I looked at the email in Outlook 2000 and I see the attachment as an item in the body text section of the email. When I look at that same email in Outlook 2003 the attachment shows in the attachment area under the subject line and the body text area is blank.
Then I sent another one with an attachment and some text in the body of the email. In Outlook 2000 I see the text in the text area and the attachment as well as a attxxx file in an area at the bottom of the email. The att file was empty. In Outlook 2003 that same email as the attachment and the empty att file in the attachment area at the top and under the subject line and in the body text area of the email is the text that I typed.
Although Mac Mail uses standard protocols, which is why you can send an email to a Windows PC, it just does some different things. In the WIndows world Outlook and Outlook Express also handle some things differently.

    Thank you for your reply
This issue makes mail.app useless, do you have any recommendations?
Other client which are as good as the mail.app or would be nice to know what is forcing to convert body text to attachment? I could reduce beautiness of my email template by taking out header (jpg) or not using rich text. What exactly is forcing outlook to convert body to attxxxxx.htm file?
    jhyiesla:
I truly don't know the answer to that question. Sometimes similar things happen coming the other way. I'll get emails in to my Mac Mail that have jpg files and I'll see the actual pictures in the body of the email.
I happen to also have Office 2008 for the Mac installed and when I sent my self a message and looked at it in Outlook 2000 and XP, the email looked "normal" in all instances. The attachment was marked as an attachment, text was where it should be and no att file.
There are other email clients that would probably work on the Mac like Thunderbird... but I'm guessing that you'd have a similar thing as happens with mac mail. Still it might be worth the download to test it out.
    Goldblum:
I used entourage and same HTML template for email and have no problems. It is just so that entourage is as any other MS product "broken" out of the box but did good job and same message is not being converted to HTML attachment when it goes to outlook on PC. I will continue researching internet because it has to be solved. I can't send a message to client without comment to attached invoice. This is so not professional. I will play more with settings of mail.app to see what else can be done to avoid conversion.
    jhyiesla:
Entourage probably works well with Outlook because they're both MS products and MS is going to have somewhat similar looks to all their Office products... although there is quite a bit of difference between Entourage and Outlook.

As mentioned, Outlook is not email standards compliant. It probably never will be based on Microsoft's history. However, I think there are various issues involved in the problems people have. I often send emails from home to my Outlook account at work. I have never experienced any of the problems that I've seen posted anywhere regarding Mail and Outlook.
My conclusion is that there are issues with certain Exchange Server configurations and/or issues with your own ISP mail server causing the issues.
I do have my system set up to Always send windows friendly attachments (from what I've read, this really is 'send Outlook friendly attachments'), and always put attachments at the end. Prior to the 'always put attachments at the end,' I wasn't having any issues, either. However, I read that that setting helped with other email clients, so I use it.
The obvious question is, "well, how is your exchange server configured." I would love to provide the answer to that question; however, I work for a DoD organization, so actually tracking down the person that knows the answer to that question will take somewhere between five years and never. With my 20+ years experience with the DoD, I'm leaning towards the never end of the spectrum. The other half of the equation is, "I'm using cox as my ISP."

  • Outlook users' problems with Apple mail attachments

Folks on Windows XP using Outlook 2003 are having problems with email from Apple mail. Apple mail is using Windows Friendly Attachments and Rich Text as the settings. Sometimes attachments (Word, Excel, PDF) come in fine with an additional .htm attachment, but the body text of the message is missing. If the Outlook user opens the .htm file, there is the body of the Apple mail. Testing with Plain Text results in the body text appearing fine in Outlook, but the attachment is seen as a *.dat file and of course can't be opened. The Macs are all on OS X Tiger with all OS updates applied. Users of Outlook in other offices don't have this problem, and users of Thunderbird on Windows don't have this problem. Any ideas on what is causing this and how to resolve it? Is there a setting on Outlook that needs to be tweaked? Is there a setting on Apple mail that needs to be tweaked? Apple mail attachments to this Windows office worked fine until a few weeks ago. I do not know what changed between then and now as I am not in charge of the computers at the Windows office. Could a Mac OS update have caused a problem? Something on Windows or Outlook specifically? Thanks for any help you can provide. I've scoured the web and have tried everything to no avail. Zipping attachments, while a workaround, is not a long-term solution. Thanks!

Is this in an environment where an MS Exchange Server is being used? Seeing a file change to .dat would often point to that.
Plain Text should be the plan of action for users of Apple Mail, but something (probably the Exchange Server) is messing that up. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138053
    and also related:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/winmaildat.shtml
Moving to Leopard would probably not solve this -- the administrator of the exchange server must act.
Also the problem with winmail.dat files is known to impact other email clients used even on Windows computers.

  • Line breaks in URLs sent with Apple Mail

Does anyone know when/if Apple plans on repairing the flaw in Mail that splits URLs into multiple lines, making it hard for recipients to view recommended links?
I recognize there are ways around this including TinyURL, embedding URLs in short words, and re-assembly of the URL on the recipient's end. However, it is Apple that is failing to comply with RFC-3676 ("The Text/Plain Format and DelSp Parameters"), which states:
[A] generating agent SHOULD NOT insert a space in an unnatural location... If faced with such a word which exceeds 78 characters (but less than 998 characters, the [SMTP] limit on line length), the agent SHOULD send the word as is... (RFC-3676, February 2004, at 7)
Apple should fix this. Yes, there are workarounds. But Apple is not complying with the established email standard.

I don't know how much sending suggestions through
    that channel really helps.
It's the right way to tell them what you want. Sending suggestions here in the forum is a total waste of everyone's time, that's for sure.
    I know they won't reply
unless they can see some over all bennefits for their

I don't think they ever reply, for reasons of time and resources, but that has nothing to do with what kind of action they may be taking about a suggestion.

  • Photos are split in 2 files when sent by Apple Mai, why?

    Anybody encountered the same problem?
if sending a photo by mail, my web.de account would show the recieved email with 2 files instead of one!!
Also if I send photos to my msn.com account, there appears the same phenomenon.
I can't open these 2 files with my Windows Pc, but if loading them to my Powerbook, I can open one file (the photo) but the other file would appear as a thumbnail and can't be opened by any program.
    What's odd:
if I send a photo with apple mail in connection with iphoto, there would appear the same problem if choosing the original size of the photo.
BUT if I choose another size (big, or small for example) the
email arrives without any phenomenon. The photo is usable also in my Windows Pc then.
    Another strange thing:
I use Apple mail/ entourage (on my Apple) for recieving emails. So if I send a photo with original size to myself (as an experiment) the programs actually show only 1 file as it should be. (Remember: the web.de account and the msn.com account would show the same email with 2 files instead!)
If loading the photo (any photo) manually by my web.de account and sending it with the web.de account the email would appear in every case with the one file (photo) as it should arrive.
Does Apple Mail have encoding problems? And why does my entourage program have the exactly the same problem???
Why doees the problem disappear if I change the photo size with iphoto in connection with Apple mail / entourage?

    I have to add something:
the two files the photo is split to are:
    1) the bigger one is the jpeg file, the photo itself.
    2) the smaller one is a TIFF file, which can be only displayed if loaded to my Powerbook. Its a miniature view / icon of the jpeg photo.
On the Windows Pc both files can't be displayed!
The pictures were taken with my Canon IXUS 800 IS and were imported through iphoto.
    Another important thing I discovered:
Other photos, taken by other digicams make no trouble when sent by Apple mail or Entourage, ...
Anybody has an idea how to fix this?

  • Yahoo Mail bug with Apple mail?

    Hi,
Im using Mail to send and receive my yahoo mail.
Lately, my mail is taking approx 4 hours to be delivered when sent from apple mail.
Ive read that there is a bug when sending to the yahoo servers.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Is there a solution?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same issue ever since updating to 10.5.2. Yahoo is delivering very slowly if at all. Indeed I've had more undelivered messages than delivered. Have deleted and re-created my Yahoo mailbox to no avail. Other solutions?

  • Getting rid of the ATT00001.htm attachment

I look like an utter fool when I send email using Mail with an attachment (images, documents, anything) and I get a response form those I am emailing asking what the junk attachment "ATT00001.htm" or any deriative of the numbers ending with a ".htm" suffix.
I am told it is an HTML tag that Mail creates- but since most of my recipients are using a PC and Outlook it appears in every email recipient that I send this to.
Is this a bad design issue with Apple or is there something I need to do to get rid of this? My PC friends all roll their eyes and say this is because it is a "Mac" thing. Any suggestions?

I and all my Mac based colleagues have exactly the same issue. The ATT00001.htm attachment contains the portion of the email that is below whatever attachment you have purposely placed. So if you right your message then add attachment and your auto signature looks to be beneath it, at the recipients end they will see the email message and a ATT00001.htm with your signature in it.
I have no idea on how to eradicate this issue.
Someone mentioned it may be something to do with Exchange servers, which I am using, but then, surely so are many business users and i would have thought Apple would have considered this.
Any ideas how we can get an official resolution to this problem?

  • We love apple email, but it does not play wall with other venders when you want to use your own domain (lags, disconnections, etc.)?   What vendor should we use to make it push and work well?  We want to stay with Apple Mail.

Help, our AppleMail does not play well with other Vendord to use our own domain.   iCloud mail works great, but so far others we have tried lag, disconnec, etc. not nearly as good as icloud mail.   Should we try exchange or office 365 plans with Apple Mail/  a lot more expensive?

Microsoft Exchange is the best business solution, Office 365 will give a hosted version that works well, as you noted it is not the cheapest. You should also look at Zimbra, an excellent service.

  • Safari web page sent via apple mail to entourage - block submission

.. at this point, I'm just wondering what it is about a web page sent via Apple Mail (great feature!) which causes Entourage to display the warning "For your security, Entourage will block submission of this form"? ..
.. in particular, what are the file types in this kind of message via Apple Mail which need to be "allowed" in the Entourage Attachment Policy .plist? ..
.. a side note - even the microsoft entourage support webpage dealing with this issue sent via Apple Mail was blocked! ..

You're suffering from two common misconceptions.
    1. You will never get a response from Apple when you submit a crash report. The reports are used internally, if at all.
    2. This is not Apple tech support. This is a forum provided by Apple for users of its products to discuss technical issues among themselves. No one here represents Apple or knows anything about your contacts with Apple. If you want support from Apple, click the Support link at the top of this page.

  • Help setting up BTinternet email with Apple Mail

    Hello everyone,
I need help setting up a btinternet email account with Apple's Mail sofware. I am setting it up on behalf of my aunt and uncles new macbook pro so I hope i get some solutions quick because Im leaving their place by the end of the weekend and I would love to have their email setup and teach them how to use it.
They have 2 btinternet email accounts, the first one they use alot as its their main email account which is currently setup on MS Outlook on their old computer. The secound one they use rarely and its not setup on MS Outlook.
Heres the problem, when I setup their main email account with apple mail, I have no problem creating the account however once created the inbox is empty - it does not load previous emails. It can send emails fine, if i send an email to the account using my personal email it will receive it but when I switch off the computer and switch it back on the mail box is empty. So I checked the email account by going to yahoo.co.uk and signing in - again even on the web page the mail box is empty.
I then setup the second btinternet  email account on Apple Mail shockingly this works perfectly all the old emails got loaded up in mail. So how do I do this for the main account, I know the difference is Outlook mail but I rather not delete that because if it doesnt work then they would lose all their old emails.
    Please help
    Thanks in advance
PS: ive setup my hotmail and yahoo accounts and they all work fine by the way

Please guys give me something or any random ideas u may have. im running out of time.

  • Send html mail with apple mail

I used to send a html newsletter with apple mail. I opened the html file in safari pressed cmd + i and a html mail was created. On Yosemite there seems to be a bug with this feature. After pressing cmd + i it creates a mail and html website is selected in this mail, but the mail body is empty. Now I have no ideo how to send the newsletter. Apple mail was the only way to achive a correctly displayed newsletter on most common mail clients.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution?

Seems to be a bug in Safari under Yosemite. Occurs only with HTML pages which are stored locally on the Mac and then opened with Safari.
Two options for a work around:
    (1)
When Apple Mail shows a blank page, choose PDF instead of WEB PAGE in the mail header.
Thereafter, the contents will appear as a PDF attachment.
    (2)
Publish the HTML page. Surf with Safari to the published page. Use the command "File : Send : Email this page".
    Now it should work.

  • How to identify a nested email sent from Apple 'Mail' client

    Hi,
I am trying to identify whether an attachment to an email is a mail in itself. I have to parse and extract the contents
of the nested email in an email. I am identifying an attch as an email if its content type is message/rfc822. But in case if
the email(both attached and enclosing) is sent from Apple's Mail client 'Mail' its failed. Can some one help me in resolving this!
just looking for the content type message/rfc822 may not be enough!!

What does the message from Apple Mail look like?
Use the msgshow.java demo program with the -s option to show the structure of the message.
