Attaching a external CSS stylesheet crashes Dreamweaver CC

When I either choose Attach CSS Style Sheet from the Menu: Format > CSS Styles > Attach Stlye Sheet or using the + (symbol) on the the CSS Designer panel for Sources, I get no response or dreamweaver crashes completely. Just wonder if anyone else is experiencing this problem or if anyone has suggestions to why this might be happening?

I tried restoring the preferences and it still doesn't work. When I go to select Attach Existing CSS File from the CSS Designer panel it will not let me click on that option the pop up menu just dissappears and nothing happens. If I try selecting the same option from the Format menu it just crashes Dreamweaver.

  • Loading an external CSS stylesheet

I am new to Flash and trying to get an external CSS
stylesheet to work correctly. I loaded the following sample code
from the Adobe help files but the html text does not format
correctly? If I add a StyleSheet object , then it will format just
fine. The external CSS file is in the same directory as the SWF
file and I'm not getting any error messages. Using IE7 and Flash
Player 9.0.115....Any help would be much appreciated.

you can use something like the following to make your code
    more eyeball friendly:

  • Preview external css stylesheet

I open two pages, both linked to the same external stylesheet
.In design view, the first appears with the CSS stylesheet's specs,
the other without. How do I set the second one so it appears too
    with the stylesheet specs?
    Thanks for the help.
    Mark

Check and fix your link in the second page. There's something
    funky going on.

  • Line CSS Code Crashes Dreamweaver CS4

    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Open dreamweaver, and start a new CSS file
    2. Write this code, do not copy paste :
    @media print{
    #tepe, #rightpanel,
    3. While writing the code, Dreamweaver crashes. In some cases, even thought i was able to fully write the code, trying to save or closing Dreamweaver also crashed.
3a. Save this code to a file with notepad and open with dreamweaver. Dreamweaver crashes.
    Try it yourself...

    Strange, mine crashed instantly.
What I did is write the code in texteditor, saved it as test.css and then opened the file in DW CS4.
    Bingo.

  • Template that does not let an external css to be attached

    Hi
i have a template with en editable region for mainContent.
and it is applied to all the pages in my site.
now i want to attach an external css file to one of the pages
that is based on that template, and i get this message:
"a request to create a new style, link or import failed. if
you work with an instance of a template, make sure that you have an
editable region in the head tag".
so i went to my template and selected all the head tag and
    made it an editable region.
but i still get the same message.
    what can i do?
    best regards

I am having the exact same problem but my template was saved as a template. I created a page from my template and made editable regions, when I go to create a style it tells me "A request to create a new STYLE, LINK, or IMPORT failed. If you are working with an instance of a template, make certain that there is an editable region within the head tag." I've tried making an editable region within the head tag and it still doesn't work.
    Here is my code.

  • Problem attaching external Css...

    Hello all,
I have been using Dw cs3 for a few months now and currently experiencing the following problem:
When defining a site root folder in osx it will not accept  / or \ when chaning the / it creates another directory under mac osx. when opening my file then attaching the Css I think that it cannot find the proper file to attach it to.it will insert the Css but will not change the style of the site.
I wanted to see if it was me or the mac, so I went back to windows installed everthing under C:/files for my site   started DW opened the file and attached the external Css. Worked fine and changed instantly... so I am confused as to is there a way for me to define my local site in mac that its different? am I missing somthing?
    thanks
    quint

This isn't normal behavior, you may have an issue with your current installation of Dreamweaver. You may want to email Adobe support to see if there's something you can do to avoid having to do a reinstall, other wise this may be the route you have to go.

  • CSS problems in Dreamweaver CC?

I am having problems getting the CSS to update properly when I make changes to the code in the CSS document in the left panel. I have to go into CSS Designer to make the changes in addition to writing code in the css document, but it is often easier to update the code in the document and not use CSS Designer.
At one point, a bizarre thick border appeared on an element that I had NOT styled in either CSS Designer or in the CSS document. When I tried to change the border, the border did not show up in settings in CSS Designer or in the CSS document panel. The only place that affected the border was by using the Properties in the panel at the bottom of the app window. Once I accessed the "CSS Designer" from the Properties panel, I could see the settings and get rid of them.
Wondering if this is some kind of bug? Or if anyone else is experiencing problems making changes to css in the css document window?

I'll look for a DW forum. FYI, I'm on a Mac OS10.8.5, with most recent update for DW CC. I attached an external css to the file and it is shown correctly under Sources in CSS Designer (no extra styles are in the head of the document); that part works just fine. Formatting borders is pretty straight-forward—specify style, width, color for each side.
The question is why changes to the css don't always take effect if I write the css as code in the css panel (on the left side using split view)—even when I do a save. When I ALSO change settings in CSS Designer the changes DO appear in the CSS code panel, even duplicating the code I just entered there. One time I had to use the "Edit Rule" in the Properties box at the bottom of the app window to get the css to update.
The lack of consistency interferes with workflow.
I wish I could write the css in the code panel and have a refresh button like the one for Source Code changes.
Often it is much faster to write the css in the code panel. Scrolling through all the settings of the CSS Designer can be tedious and it's easy to make mistakes.
An example of this css is a sidebar div with a bottom border. When I was setting this up, it ended up with a thick solid black bottom border and I had trouble making a change. Eventually I succeeded via the Properties panel, but it should have updated via the css code panel OR CSS Designer.
    #sidebar {
         border-bottom: thin dotted #055900;
So, maybe this is a Creative Cloud issue, or maybe a DW issue.

  • When I try to attach my css style sheet Dreamweaver gives me an error saying that my .css file appears to be an .html file and will not attach. How do I fix this so I can attach my style sheet?

I have built a css style sheet in Dreamweaver. When I try to attach it to my html website, it prompts me that my "css file appears to be an .html file and cannot attach". I've tried removing the /* */ as suggested by other forums, but this has not resolved the issue. I was using css style sheets with no problem 2 days ago. Now I get that error message. How do I fix this so I can attach my style sheet?

What does the code of the CSS file look like?
An external CSS file needs to be written in CSS only (no html tags like <html>, <body>, <head>, etc ).
It also must have a .css file extension, if yours has a .html extension it won't work.

I added the second image as you suggested but there is no scroll bar on the right and I can't see if it is below.
Do you know what I do to see the scroll bar?
Yep, background images won't force scrollbars to appear. You need to add more html content to your page, over your background images, to get scrollbars.
The background image is still quite large. Should I reduce the size of the original image? I thought that is done in CSS.
Images online should be reduced to the smallest pixel size and lowest possible quality setting as they can be, while still looking acceptable to you. Use Photoshop's Save For Web and Devices option to get a 4 up version of your image at varying settings. When it's the smallest pixel size you want, with the "lowest still good" quality settings, click that version and save it to your site. That will cut out unnecessary file size and help your site load much faster.
If you want to use a larger image for your background, and resize it with css, you need to use the background-size attribute: CSS3 background-size property however, this is not well supported on old browsers and may not resize to your settings.
I can't see things in DW Design I have to go to live preview
Design View is a bit of a misnomer. It can't and won't ever show you your exact design, in all honesty, it should be renamed something along the lines of Framework View or Click to Select View. There have been some rumblings that it's going to go the way of the dinosaurs, with the advent of Live View Editing, but so far it's just hearsay. Always use the actual browsers you plan to support with Preview in Browser during development. Live View is much better than Design View at showing you your actual site, but it's only a webkit rendering (Chrome or Safari) and doesn't show you the subtle differences from IE compared to modern, standards-compliant browsers.

  • Dreamweaver very slow when linking to external CSS style sheets

I'm working on a site on my PC using Dreamweaver CS6.  When I link to external style sheets, Dreamweaver virtually grinds to a halt.  Just clicking from one line to another can take up 10 seconds.  My PC is high spec, i3720, stripes set drives and 32gb ram.
I have tried deleting the cache no change.  The external css files are part of the site and the site has been rebuilt .  Can somone help with this as it is seriously impacting my ability to use Dreamweaver.

Hi Murray, the RAM comments were irrelevant, pointless. 32GB RAM vs 4GB RAM?  Sorry, I worked at Microsoft and as a systems integrataion consultant for a number of years.  32bit programmes don't access RAM the same as 64bit, but, having 32gb with a 64Bit OS means RAM usage for a 32bit programme is better managed. Programmes and data files are on seperate drives.  My data files kept are on 3 disk stripe sets.
The CSS files and the HTML file are on the same drive.  AS an example of performance for data read/writes, I also use Photoshop CS6 to edit images in excess of 2gb in size containg multiple smart object, and I dont experience this type perormance lag.
In this case, RAM is mainly irrlevent because the file are small, approx 200kb total combined size.  I mentioned RAM in my initial post because any time I've had problems with Adobe products before, I've always been asked how much RAM I have.
So, can we please drop RAM, and perhaps focus on the problem....
Dreamweaver, regardless of what background processes I have running, regardless of how much RAM I have, regardless of where the files are kept, has a significant performance hit when editing an HTML file with links to multiple CSS files.

  • How to attach css stylesheet to TextFlow

how to attach css stylesheet to TextFlow?

    Hi Jans,
You can do this in Transaction SE80. ClicK on Mime Repository > BW >Customer > Stylesheets folder. Right click and choose Import MIME object. Or you can also create and then copy paste your CSS code.
After you upload, you need to delete the global cache in transaction SMICM > Goto > HTTP Server Cache > Invalidate > Global in system.
In the web application you have the ability to choose the stylesheet in the template properties box.
    Hope this helps...

  • Finder crashes when I attach an external HD

Hi, since updating to 10.5.2 the Finder disappears whenever I attach my external HD (Time Machine HD)and the HD is not mounted. Relaunching the finder does not help. The finder just tries to start, the light below comes on for a second or so and then disappears. When I unplug the HD, the finder reappears and everything works fine. I have tried attaching other HD's in the office, even newly formatted ones, the finder always disappears upon connecting the HD. The HD's work fine on other computers that run 10.5.1 or earlier. I haven't been able to check this phenomenon on another machine that runs 10.5.2.
Has anyone experienced the same thing and has anyone been able to resolve the issue?

  • Custom CSS Is Crashing Adobe Edge Animate

Below is the HTML and CSS for a basic page, with one style. When I open it in Adobe Edge Animate and then create a shape, and set the class of that shape to "mystyle" it displays fine in the Edge Animate window (except the border style appears missing). However, as soon as I try to move the shape, Edge crashes - consistently every time. If I create a DIV on the page outside of Edge Animate first, and apply the CSS to it, then open the page in Edge, I can move the shape around - but I lose several style options in the Properties panel such as Filters and a couple others.
I'm trying to get a better understanding of what would be the best workflow when trying to use Edge to animate existing web page layouts - creating the animations and DIVs entirely in Edge first then placing the animation into an existing layout, or creating a page layout in something like Dreamweaver (along with all my other custom CSS), then opening it in Edge to animate it.
I saw elsewhere where someone explained how to attach an external style sheet instead. This seems to work without crashing, however  I cannot see the rendered style on the stage itself, only when I preview the animation in a browser.

You could use the styles inside Edge Animate directly in compositionReady. If you have an earlier version of edge for the gradient do:
    For example:
    sym.$('Stage').css({
      'background-image': '-moz-linear-gradient(bottom, #ebebeb 0%, #ebebeb 0.27%, #ebebeb 50%, #fff 51%, #d6d6d6 98.93%, #d6d6d6 100%)',
              'background-image': '-o-linear-gradient(bottom, #ebebeb 0%, #ebebeb 0.27%, #ebebeb 50%, #fff 51%, #d6d6d6 98.93%, #d6d6d6 100%)',
             ' background-image': '-webkit-linear-gradient(bottom, #ebebeb 0%, #ebebeb 0.27%, #ebebeb 50%, #fff 51%, #d6d6d6 98.93%, #d6d6d6 100%)',
              'background-image': 'linear-gradient(bottom, #ebebeb 0%, #ebebeb 0.27%, #ebebeb 50%, #fff 51%, #d6d6d6 98.93%, #d6d6d6 100%)'
You can add the other properties  between the {} with the same format:
      'propertyName':'value',
Newer versions of Animate have gradient from color panel.

  • External CSS and Templates

I am fairly new to using CSS and Dreamweaver having finally taken the plunge and dropped Micromumble mumble...  I am wondering about external CSS and templates.  When I assign a template to the external CSS does the CSS also translate down to the documents that are attached to the template or do each of them need to be attached to the CSS itself to work as well?  Thanks for any help offered.

Just to clarify, if I have a class to define the color of my links in the template that is used in the uneditable regions but I also use the links in the editable regions, do I need to attach the CSS to the child as well?
Need to clarify the terms here.
How is the class defined and what do you mean by attached the CSS?
Probably easier to explain by example.
Can you paste the code here?
