Audio Clips At Top of Spot

After a few months of successfully using Motion 2, I’ve suddenly run into a problem with audio clipping the first 15 frames when exporting with or without video. I’ve trashed the prefs but it made no difference. It occurred on two unrelated projects today where there were no previous problems. Any ideas?
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I seem to recall a post a while back that had some success solving this problem by re-importing the audio. But I may be mis-remembering...

Can't get my audio clip to work in Keynote except in edit mode. I've followed Help instructions to the letter. Any suggestions?

Hi Gary - thanks so much for your help. I'd already done that, but finally stumbled across the answer for my situation. I'm new to iMac and this is the first time I used Keynote, so maybe this info will help someone else along the way - I still haven't found this in any of the Keynote documentation or forums I've read.
My slides were all set up with at least one text box in which the text was animated. The sound was the last thing I added to each slide, exactly following the info in Keynote Help re: adding audio. The audio would work when I tested it in Inspector mode, and also if I switched to soundtrack instead. But not if sound was added to each individual slide. Hmmm. After I submitted the question above, I was running through the (auto) slide show one final time to check text, animation, etc. when I noticed that on just one single slide the sound effect came through, but at the very tail end of the slide. Hmm again. Why?
Through trial & error, the answer was in the animation section - not very intuitive re: audio. The steps to correct the issue were: 1) click on the sound icon embedded in each slide, 2) click on the animation tab in Inspector. 3) There's a drop-down menu there that allows you to reposition the audio clip to the #1 spot (if it was added after other "animation"). This allows the sound to begin before the text animation begins on each slide. Before doing this, I guess the sound was in there but the slides were transitioning before it had a chance to play.
Since this is the first time I've used Keynote and it's the most recent version, I'm not sure if this is a new feature to allow users to choose where within a slide to play a sound effect, but I'm guessing that might be why was unable to find any info on how to solve it. Hopefully this will help others who get stumped.
Thanks again for jumping in to help! I really appreciate it.

  • How do I join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello,
The question is in the title but I'm wondering how I can join multiple (short) audio clips into one single long audio clip in PP CS5.5.  I put all my short clips right next to each other and selected all of them to see what options are available by right clicking and using the toolbar options at the top.  The closest that I got was to nest the sequence, but that's not what I really want.
I'd like to merge all the short clips into one single (long) audio file to use under the video.
Thoughts are welcome and  greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Melvin

O.K. This is kind of fundamental and you will need to learn up on this fully ...but for now...
Make sure you have the WAB ( work area bar )covering the length of the audio clips. ( You do not need to select them)
Go to the File Menu> Export Media
You will be given all the Export Options.  Choose Wave File
Select option for Export Work Area.
Choose where to export the file to ( HD location)
    follow your nose from there....

BTW - Why are you taking the audio to Audition anyway? What are you going to do to it.

  • How do you change the speed of a detached audio clip?

I have a piece of detached audio.  Video Frame rate is 23.98.  The piece of Video above it is Video Frame Rate 24.
How do I change the speed of this detached audio clip?

Nope, the Automatic Speed did not work.  I exported the XML, and then ran it through X2Pro to try and get my AAF, and it still spits out conform warnings/errors on those same spots.  Automatic Speed apparently did nothing helpful to my situation.  (Can Anyone explain Automatic Speed?)
Will have to try going through Cinema Tools per the similar issues noted in this conversation: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/28007
Curious to see what FCPX would do with this media, importing the 24p file to a 25 Project cause a noticeable shift in both time and pitch.
I imported the time coded audio separately, and played it against the obviously speed and pitched changed video with embedded audio. The files did not sync.
The audio remained in time and pitch, while the video didn't. So the audio tc doesn't seem to effect playback in FCPX, but video definitely does, and it seems rather buggy.
So, if your video is 24.0 and your audio is 23.98 and you are in a 23.98 timeline, FCPX might be changing the speed of the video without really reporting it. Resetting speed doesn't do anything, hitting "automatic speed" screws it up a bit more (it goes the wrong way). Changing the speed to something like 96% (FCPX reports 96% but I know it's really ((24000/1001)/25) which is just short of 96%. Turning off the "preserve pitch" checkbox actually pitched the audio back to normal.
I didn't create the 24.0 vs 23.9 media that you have, but perhaps you are having similar issues, or a different combination/permutation therein.
But to answer your question, the time coded audio was not changed, only embedded audio.
    and
But here some notes which makes things hopefully clearer.
Resampling and changing playback speed are two totally different things.
Samplerate for audio is the same as fps for video (not dpi for video) so let's call it sps.
You can record audio at any sampling rate. But let's take 48 kHz and 32 kHz here.
Record 60 seconds. Once recorded both files as stand alone files will play 60 seconds.
But forced to play back in a NLE timeline with a fixed sps of 48 the first file will playback correctly. The second one will play at 2/3 of the time (32/48). The other way round the 48 sps file will play longer in a 32 sps timeline.
Now for those poor guys who have to work with NTSC:
A real world second is not a second in NTSC video world. Its 1001/1000 seconds.
So selecting a 48k sps audio preset in a timeline preset means that a real world audio of 60 seconds is only 1000/1001x60. That means that those 60 seconds are only 59.94 seconds long. Its too short.
One way - if you stay strictly in NTSC - is to record audio with 48048 Hz. This way a real world 1 second audio will match a 1 second NTSC video.
Next option with BWAVE files is to change the playback settings in the BEXT header of the file. This won't resample the file!!!
Now about the TC. BWAVE doesn't have a TC in a way you're used when handling video. It has a timestamp in the header. This timestamp contains the Samples after Midnight. Based on that the NLE will convert this to TC which can be displayed. So in NTSC world this might give a wrong interpretation.
For example if you have a "Start TC" of 00:10:00:00 (thats what you see on your audio recorder) it means that using 48kHz the timestamp is at 600x48,000 = 28,800,000 samples. Since the real sampling rate in the timeline though is 48048 Hz you have to divide the source stamp by this number. This results in 9.99000999000999 minutes. So for a 23.976 fps project this is a TC of 00:09:59:10.
So setting the Bext header and/or iXML chunk to the correct playback speed will keep everything intact. Again this is without resampling!
Using an AIFF there aren't these options.
So you can edit all the stuff without resampling when using BWAVE. But resampling will happen when you export a final movie.

  • 1,000 menu items - each selection plays unique audio clip with same video

    Hi all,
We're familiar with playing different audio tracks based on a menu selection - but we have a large number of clips for this project... so, here's our question:
A viewer of our 30 minute dvd throws it in the player and selects the city they live. We want to have about 1,000 city names they can choose from.
Based on their selection, (eg: Los Angeles) the DVD will play and then at 7 different points during playback, we need the name "Los Angeles" inserted/played along the main audio track.  If someone selects Portland, then Portland would be spoken in that spot instead, etc.
In terms of audio files, we have the one main audio that is the same for all menu selections, except for the spots where the city goes, it is just blank.
We have recorded 1,000 unique audio clips of just the city name we want to include . (1 to 2 seconds long)
What's the best way to insert the audio where we need it during playback - or is it even possible? (non-blu ray).  There is audio just before and after the point where the city name has to go, so the timing during playback is critical. (no pause or hiccup when inserting.)
We thought about outputting 1,000 unique audio tracks (each 30 minutes long) that include the full audio along with the city, but we seem limited in the number of audio tracks on the Encore timeline (at least based on our limited authoring experience - is there a way to get more clips in encore beyond the # of audio tracks it allows?)
In reading other posts, it seems we can set markers along the main audio track, dump all our city clips on a handful of audio tracks and have them pull in where needed but it seems it will cause the dvd to pause when doing this, and make for an interrupted viewing experience. Is that true?
    Any ideas/thoughts are greatly appreciated...
    kay

Let's see if someone can tell us how this might be done, but I say the answer is "no."
First, DVDs are made for playing on TVs as programs, not as interactive media. You pick one audio track, and that is all you get. To do what you want (the main audio track with one of a thousand names spoken also), you need a thousand audio tracks.
Even if it were possible, I think the number of menu choices (max 36 buttons on a single 4:3 menu) and the max 1 gig of menu on a disk, and if not those, the max 99 vts per disk (and for Encore which uses 1 vts per timeline, a  huge task to figure out how to make all those clips into chapters on timelines) etc.

  • Crashing after adding audio clips

So I have had to rebuild my 50 minute vacation movie 3 times now due to the files become corrupt after adding audio clips.  The audio clips are legit and not just downloaded from a random site.  Happens with different songs not just particular ones.

Here is a good tutorial for how audio works. In your case, you want to drag and drop the music track on top of one of your video clips at the frame where you want the music to begin.

  • Why is there only one automated audio fader at head and none at tail of some audio clips?

When I select "Show audio animation," top left of an audio clip, on some sections I have two knobs... one at the head for fade in, and one at the tail for fade out. Why is there only one on some of the audio clips and not both? I've set up the clips the same, regarding audio animation, and some have faders at head, but not tail. How do I make another fader at the tail of a clip? Or why doesn't it automatically behave like the other audio clips that DO have two faders? I don't know what I'm doing to make them act differently.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Tom,
Thanks for reply. I'm attaching screen shots. For some reason my pointer didn't show up with a normal screen grab. Don't understand. Anyway, several versions are attached. There isn't one hidden on the right beyond the frame that pops out when I put my pointer there (or any tool). Strange.

  • Audio scrubbing just moves audio clip

Hello; I'm a new iMovie user and I'm just finding my way around in the program. I have an old G4 with iMovie 4.01 and I can't seem to get the audio scrubbing to work. According to the Pogue book on iLife 04, "In iMovie 04, for the first time, you can scrub by Option-dragging your mouse back and forth across an audio clip. iMovie plays the sound under your cursor." [p. 361]
So far everything I've tried has just ended up moving the audio clip from side to side, Option key or not. What am I not doing right here?
    Thanks.

Bit unstable ..but Apple warns that it still is; "use at own risk", etc.
I wanted to see if current (version 6.0.3) iMovie HD, etc, works OK with the new system. So far, no problems.
Safari looks a little different - different typeface, and these buttons at the bottom of each post ("Did this topic solve your issue? Yes No") appear odd ..but maybe that's because it's still in the process of being tweaked and refined. There's a handy "make an Widget" button in Safari, letting me draw around, say, the topmost 10 posts on this page, and then I can call that back as a Widget overlay on top of anything else which is on the screen ..making it easy to pop in and out of Discussions..
Just downloaded a newer version yesterday, but have yet to install it (today).

  • Match Frame Audio clip to find Video?

    Hi
I have an audio clip in the timeline. Is there an easy way to find the original video that corresponds to it?
If I Match Frame to source it just brings up the audio clip to edit in the viewer. Doesnt give me the matching video.

In the Viewer, click on the VIDEO tab up on top.

  • ? about "Lock Audio Clip at Playhead"

I've always thought that the purpose of this feature is to make sure that audio and video clips that need to stay synced together in fact do.
Well, I just added a short video clip to my timeline--in the middle of the movie--and it moved all the video clips to the right a bit, as it should--but not the audio clips, which were locked to their respective video!
    How could this happen?

    Hi folks.
Since we last posted, I have discovered something new about the misbehaving audio lock. Happily, I learned that it does work for me - most of the time. I can select the audio, choose "Lock..." and if I get a yellow pushpin on both the video and audio tracks, then they are properly locked together.
Here's the catch. Sometimes I select the audio, choose "Lock..." and the yellow pushpin only appears on the video track. In that case, they are not locked, and adding video before that pin will lose the sync with the improperly locked audio track. Also, I haven't found a way to get that single pushpin to go away. I can place the playhead there and choose "Lock..." again, but that has no effect (no toggle off and on). I can select a new place in the same audio clip and choose "Lock..." but the pin doesn't move. The only workaround I have found is to move a bit past the defective pin, do a "Split video at playhead" to create a new video track, and then select a spot in the audio clip to lock with the new video clip. The new clip will get the correct double pushpins, and the audio is really locked.
Here is a screen shot of this behavior. Notice that I have several locked audio clips, and I have not placed the locks on the first frame of the video clips. You can see a defective single pushpin on the video associated with audio clip #23. I couldn't remove that pin, so I split the video clip and was able to lock down audio clip #24. (Note: the gaps in the video are intentional - when I had to change tapes. I'll fill them in with some photos, so I have to make sure that I won't lose sync.)
What do you think about that?
    Regards.

    Hi
    In iMovie'11 (version 9.0.x)
    on top menu row - Apple/iMovie/File/Edit/Cut (Can vary dep. on language - in Swedish Apple/iMovie/Arkiv/Redigera/Klipp . . . )
down Cut menu - Slow playback/Raspid Playback/Re-play in Slow Motion and onvards
Here one can select the Pre-Set speeds
Are you familiar with getting 'inspector' to run?
No - but I guess that Double Click on clip/sequense or ctrl-Click on it might open it.

  • Export audio clip from iMovie?

Is it possible to export an audio clip that I recorded in iMovie to iTunes or GarageBand? I have a couple of recorded sounds in one of my iMovies that I'd like to use in another movie.

    1. Choose File->Export...
    2. Click the Quicktime icon at the top of the export dialog
    3. In the Compress movie for: popup menu, choose Expert Settings. Click Share.
    4. In the new dialog box, set the Export popup menu to "Sound to AIFF".
    5. Click the options button and select: Format - Linear PCM, Channels - Stereo, Rate - 48.000kHz, Quality - Normal, Sample size: 16 bits. Leave the other checkboxes unchecked. Click OK. (Next time you can use "Most Recent Settings" because it will remember what you did.)
    6. Give it a name and navigate to where you want to save it. Then click Save.
    7. Import the AIFF file into your new movie.

  • Can't Move Audio Clip

I need to shift and audio clip and I can't move it. There is a gray line a the top of the clip that does not appear on other clips, but I don't know what this means. I can shorten or lengthen the clip, but I can't move it. At the far right top is a button that indicates that I can speed up or slow down the clip and this button doesn't appear on the other clips. Occasionally a box pops up to let me say if this is a custom or a present and it currently is custom at 100 percent. The clip is highlighted in yellow, which would seem to indicate I can move it, but I can't. I'd appreciate help on how to fix this.
    Thanks.

hmmm... It seems to be a new big problem, I'm having the same issue...
    But with iMovie HD 6
I'm using Mavericks and I import a movie file into iMovie HD, then an audio file (I've tried mp3 and aiff) and both play, video and audio. Then I have to edit the audio file to sync with the video, and then is when iMovie HD freezes.
I've deleted the preferences (now iMovie opens only the menu, but the project doesn't appear at all, only that colourful loading icon forever ) I've repaired the permissions   restarted every single time and still nothing...
IS THERE ANYONE TO help us out, please?

  • Audio clips in the Viewer window

When I double click on an audio track from the timeline, to place into the viewer window, the tab always reads "Stereo (a1a2)" indicating the top (uppermost) track when I have clicked on the (A7A8) track. I have tried using the "Auto Select" toggle with no change. Also, once an audio clip appears in the viewer, all my previous tabs such Video, etc. disappear...Any suggestions?

It doesn't seem to make sense that you are required to place the tracks into the viewer window for subsequent editing and the viewer has no way to identify what track you are working on???
That's because - as FCP sees it - although you are working from a clip already placed into the Timeline (hence the sprocket holes in the Viewer's scrubber bar) all the relevant info references the clip as it was captured or imported.
That is, even though your clip might be placed at 1:00:00;00 in the Timeline, it's In point is at, say, 0:35:24;17 in the clip's own timecode.
If you've clicked on audio, the Viewer will display audio as sequential tracks for the clip (remember FCP 5 can have up to 24 tracks of audio for a clip). In FCP's way of thinking a1a2 are it's way of letting you know that there are only 2 audio tracks (a stereo pair) in your clip.
And, yes, the logic can be quite dangerous.

  • What is KEYSTROKE to DUPLICATE an AUDIO CLIP?

A friend of mine showed me a great trick which I've since forgotten.
If I have a mono clip of audio on a track, there is a keystroke which will duplicate the clip on top of itself, allowing me to drag the copy down to the channel below, but leaving the original audio clip in its original location.
    Anyone know the keystroke?
    Thanks,
    Mark
