  • Did most recent Audio update to OSX and Mail.app went insane.

I switched to the Mac in... November? and have absolutely loved it. This has been my first catastrophic experience thus far and I'm used to Windows being a part time job to manage so I'm not complaining.
However, late last week OSX installed an audio update of some sort and when I rebooted mail.app had seemingly lost it's mind:
    1. IMAP accounts constantly go offline and then back online at random time intervals. This problem I actually had occasionally before but now it's a constant annoyance.
    2. Frequently getting "The message from "somebody" concerning "something" has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." error message for messages that have a. already been downloaded and b. who's accounts are showing as online. FYI, yes I do have mail.app set to download and keep a copy of the messages locally.
    3. Some messages (I can't find a pattern but it's about 5% of the messages) download repeatedly and appear in the inbox as many as 51 times. The only solution to this seems to be to log into the IMAP account's webmail access and delete the "offending" message.
    4. An account can be online and yet not show all the messages that are in the inbox. I know this because if I log into the webmail I can see them.
    5. Seemingly randomly the rules are ignored. Typically I can select a message and then tell mail to apply rules and then it works but why didn't the rule happen on it's own as usual.
    6. The general "Inbox" sometimes doesn't show new items in the individual account inboxes until I go and click on those individual account inboxes and then come back to the general inbox.
    Info about my system/setup:
    a. I have 4 IMAP accounts.
    b. I store messages on the IMAP server.
    c. The "fullest" IMAP account has roughly 500 MB in it but is set to have 2.4 GB capacity on the IMAP server. That account also has 48 personal folders on it, and has had them for a little over a month. After reading about smart folders, I intend to consolidate many of these into an "Archives" folder.
    d. The other IMAP accounts are each set to have 1+ GB of available server storage but each have under 100 MB used.
    e. I use SpamSieve for email (love it, by the way)
    f. I have a demo of MailTags running (it's been since mid-June and I've only played around with tagging a few emails so far but I intend to use iGTD once I get Mail back under control)
    What I've tried:
    1. I read that it's better to do the consolidated updates than the incremental ones so three times now I've tried to download the consolidated OSC 10.4.10 update but it never fully downloads. I'm not sure what's the deal with that as I've downloaded 300-400MB files over my internet connection at other times without difficulty.
    2. I read that you can delete the folders in mail.app and let it rebuild them from the IMAP folder... a. from what I read, I'm not clear on the procedure for doing this safely b. I have a lot of folders to deal with and c. the only places I've read about it is from people commenting in forums that it didn't help them.
    So... any suggestions?

At least one of the problems you have appears to be some index corruption, and I have the feeling that MailTags has a bearing on it. I don’t think you’ll be able to completely solve the problems you have without uninstalling that first...
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Given the amount of mail you have on the server, I expect it to take a fair amount of time for Mail to fully re-create the index and bring all the mailboxes back online. Again, I strongly encourage you to uninstall MailTags before doing that.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Will Audio Update 1.0 work with MacPro2,1?

I have a MacPro2,1 (Clovertown Processors) dual 3 Ghz Quad Core Xeon X5365's that runs hot everytime I run audio apps including iTunes. Also heats up when running videos (You Tube). The specs for audio update indicate that it is specific to early 2009 models and I know MacPro2,1 was manufactured in 2008. I am running the latest version of Snow Leopard and not sure if it is safe to install the update. Anybody here have any similar experiences with their MacPro2,1?

It is quite possible that when you installed FCE 1 it left some incompatible files on your Mac.
Completely uninstall FCE either manually using the info here:-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303874
    Or automatically using FCS Remover . . . http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
    Then install just FCE 4.

  • Audio Update 2007-001 and mac Mini - boot hangs up

I downloaded the Audio Update 2007-001 this afternoon, and I've had problems with my mac Mini ever since. I thought it took a long time to boot from the gray Apple screen, longer than would seem to be warranted with a 1 MB update. Then I got the blue screen and another spinning wheel. I did hear the audio port turn on, but I never got past the spinning wheel (not a pinwheel), so I powered down. That was a mistake.
Fortunately, I could start up in safe mode. When I did, I saw that there was no audio device recognized at all. I restarted in normal mode and got the same problem as before: blue screen, spinning wheel. I'm going to let it sit there, but for how long?
    Any advice?

I solved my own problem. After restarting in Safe Mode again, I downloaded the standalone version of the audio update, installed that, and restarted. No problems booting up.

  • Can't install Audio Update 2007-001

I held off on installing the 10.4.10 update until recently.
After installing Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update v1.1 (I installed the Intel Combo update), I am unable to install the Audio Update. The Select a Destination step says, "You cannot install Audio Update 2007-001 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." Trying to install onto the Macintosh HD, by the way.
Could it be that ver. 1.1 of the 10.4.10 update already includes the Audio update? The Apple site lists the Audio Update above the 10.410 v. 1.1 update, which implies that it's more recent.
    I'd appreciate any info.

OS 10.4.10 v1.1 does contain the Audio update see

  • Audio Update for 10.4.10, breaks audio

    Hello,
I've got a 1st gen MBP with a recently replaced motherboard. Until recently, I've had no sound problems with popping etc on my USB Soundsticks speakers.
However, I recently installed the Audio Update 2007-001 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305840)
Ever since installing this, I am noticing that there is now plenty of "popping" and general sound quirks coming from iTunes; whether playing internet radio or library tracks.
It seems that the fix actually had precisely the reverse effect on a working system. Is there a way to roll this "fix" out of my system or otherwise correct the issue?
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • SUS no likey Mac Pro Audio Update?

Has anyone noticed that some of their Software Update Server installations are declining to show the recent (2/11) Mac Pro Audio Update? I have a few 10.5.8 servers that have downloaded it, as they have the workaround for adding 10.6 updates described in this forum, but a couple have not, and 3 different 10.6.2 servers have not. I see an error message on one 10.6.2 server as:
Cannot process catalog item for product 061-7871 due to missing/malformed data.
That particular "product" is indeed the Mac Pro Audio Update. Think Apple has an issue w/ their Software Update servers? Anyone else seeing this?
    Thx,
    Fred
P.S. Am I the only one who wishes there was a way for a post to show up in both 10.5 & 10.6 server forums??

About to mark this as "answered" (sort of), as I believe this Mac Pro Audio Update is no longer necessary (or available) now that we have the 10.6.3 update. My hacked 10.5.8 SUS machines no longer show this update. However, ironically enough, the 10.6.3 SUS apparently doesn't even show the 10.6.3 updates, so I guess in a way, this is kinda still an issue...LOL. Anybody wanna confirm or deny that this issue is closed (sort of!)?
    Thx,
    Fred

  • Did anyone successfully install the Realtek Audio update?

I've tried several times to install the Realtek Audio update version 6.0.1.7358. Each time I lose all sound on my laptop. I've tried all the obvious solutions, but the only one that works in the end is to uninstall Realtek and delete the software. What's restored is the generic 'High definition audio device' component.
I don't get any crackling with this, but the volume is not as loud as before. I would like ideally to get the best out of the Yoga. Has anyone had success with 6.0.1.7358?

    Dear Kmaustral
Please use the below link to download and install the updated version of the sound card with the Realtek audio firmware .

  • 10.4.10 Audio Update: Is It Safe?

I haven't seen a post on these pages yet about the audio update that was just released.
I downloaded 10.4.10 when it first became available and got the snaps, the crackles, the pops. Then I erased my entire MacBook with the install DVDs and updated to 10.4.9 and stayed there because I was afraid Apple wouldn't release another update to fix the problem to 10.4.10 and external speakers.
So, the question is: should we be afraid still? Can we all go back to automatically installing everything that Apple provides us in the Software Update? Does this update work? Has Apple finally restored their engineers and software geeks to working on Macs and not the iPhone????
    Thank you!

Well, I did a backup before installing the audio update, then downloaded the updated update (I had gone back to .9), installed, rebooted twice and the popping was gone.
Airport refused to connect at first, turned it off and back on again, seems to be OK now, but signal strength indicator varies wildly.
Other than that, so far so good. System seems much snappier

  • Inquiry about Audio Update

I was curious about the updates, i noticed the audio update listed on apples download site, since it was not listed in my Software Update does this apply to me at all or how would i determine? i sort of noticed the sound seems alittle lighter but not sure if it applies since ive applied all the updates minus 10.4.10 any info regarded on that?
thank you all for help and advice.
    =)

The old 10.4.10 update + the Audio Update = the 10.4.10 v1.1 update. We don't really know if the Audio Update does anything other than correct an issue in the old OS update, but if you have applied either side of the above equation, you have everything they offer.

  • Audio Update - July 3rd

Just did the audio update. Volume is now about 1/10th of what it used to be. Anyone else have this issue? This is on a 17" MBP by the way. How do you "go back" and get rid of the update? Can you?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
For the audio volume, I can't say anything precise like 'one third lower' but I can confirm that it's noticeably lower. But that's Apple, at every system update I ended up with different audio levels, so I didn't really mind it.
PS: Anyone else notice that the indicator showing new posts to a thread is not working? I started noticing this on Sunday, but that it might be a "freak" problem. I checked with the "freaks" in my office, and it's still a problem!
Well, that's iPhone threads taking over the Discussions they say; check the announcement at Discussions main page posted on July first:
With the popularity of the iPhone and it's related discussion areas, we have experienced heavy usage and reduced availability of Apple Discussions today. In order to improve site performance, we have temporarily disabled the following site features:
    * Search
    * Read tracking (the "blue dots")
    * Subscription emails
We are working to restore these features as soon as possible.

  • Conexant audio update broke wireless adapter driver

Installed the recommended driver update for conexant audio (windows 7). Immediately upon restart the wireless network adapter card stopped functioning. No other updates or changes were made, and this was a direct result of this driver breaking the other driver. Could not get the wireless adapter driver to fix, had to do a system restore because even uninstalling the conexant driver did not fix the wireless driver.
    Bad update!

Hi, Please try driver from the following link (the first one):     http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=6732463&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4063 Regards.

  • Nested Sequence Audio Update Glitch

This problem seems to pop up on my system from time to time and I can never remember how to correct it.
Nested Sequence plays back with an audio track that is no longer in the nested sequence. When I open the nested sequence, sure enough, the audio track is not there.
I've tried "refreshing" the track as suggested by another thread by way of control clicking and removing none existant attributes. It didn't work. I've tryied adding Audio Filters that will require a render. It didn't work. I've tried deleting all of my audio render files. It didn't work. I've already resorted to overwriting the nested sequence in question with the same nested sequence, but there should be a way to fix this @#$% bug without doing that!
    Ideas?

I apologize to anyone reading this for the negative tone of the post above.
I have since answered my own question and, as usual, the problem turned out to be one of my own making. I'm pretty sure that the reason that none of the other methods worked for getting rid of the glitch was that I had pulled the nested sequence in question out of a different project altogether and added it directly to the time line rather than adding it first to the bin of my final project and placing it into the timeline from there.
