Audiobooks won't stay in audiobook folder.

I've got a couple of audiobooks I've imported to my iTunes that I'm trying to organize.  I want all my audiobooks in an "Audiobook" folder in the iTunes Music library but every time I drag and drop them to the folder, when I open the audio files the location automatically defaults to my song library.
So if I put Dan Brown in my "Audiobooks" file and open it, when iTunes loads and I go back to my finder window to see the file, iTunes has automatically created a "Dan Brown" folder in my music library instead.  How do I stop this?  I've already made sure the files are classified as audiobooks so I'm not sure what's wrong....

  • Managing itunes library (how to put an audiobook in the audiobook folder)

All of my audiobooks (my personal audiobooks, not ones from itunes)import to my music folder and not into the audiobook folder. Moreover, I can't move the files there after the import either. It "looks" like I can click and drag the file into the audiobooks folder but when I do, nothing happens. The genre is recognized as "books or spoken" but I can't seem to "manage" my library like I thought I would be able to do.

Thank you everyone for all your help. I have one last question in response to the solutions put forth about my audiobook issues.
Is there a way to change multiple file extensions at once? Some audiobooks have a track every three minutes of "book reading time". This allows users to quickly get to the last place they were in an audiobook. The problem though is that this can lead to hours worth of work to change one file extension at a time. Can I change multiple extensions (m4a to m4b) at once or can I take multiple tracks and combine them into "larger" tracks? Like I said, some audiobooks consist of hundreds if not thousands of tracks on some of the larger novels. It would take days to rewrite the file extensions.

  • How do I get audiobooks into the audiobooks folder?

There is an audiobooks folder on the first menu on my ipod but I can't figure out how to get audiobooks into it. When I make an "audiobooks" playlist it just puts it under the playlists menu but i want to see it under the audiobooks menu.

You need to make sure the sound files' genre is set to 'audiobook' so that it will automatically go into the audiobooks folder. You do this by right clicking on the file in itunes then click get info and change the genre.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Audiobooks disappears from Audiobook folder

I have a 8gb 2gen ipod nano and the problem is that when I start my iPod I can see my audiobooks in the audiobook folder but as soon as I play any music the audiobooks disappears from that folder but can still be seen from artist folder.
This only happens if I play music from the artist folder not from if played from songs, album or genres folders...
It's really irritating since I want to be able to switch from listing to music to audiobooks without looking up the author everytime!
Anybody know about a fix to this problem?
    Thanks!

This could be your iPod is having an internal software problem. A restore through iTunes may fix this.

  • How do I get 'all' my audio books into the Audiobook folder?

Hi, I'm an iTunes newbie (new touch) and am trying to get to grips with some of the quirks of iTunes.
I have some audio books I purchased from Audible.co.uk and when imported into iTunes these go into the Audiobooks folder in the iTunes Library.
However, I also have several audio books I have converted from CD's into MP3. When I import these into iTunes, they always end up in the music folder of the Library. No amount of dragging and dropping or searching of the 'preferences' have allowed me to move these files into the Audiobook folder. Can this be done in iTunes?
    Any help greatly received.
    Regards,
    Glenn

If you are going to do it this way, I would suggest a SmartPlaylist.
Highlight all of your audiobooks, go to file, then get info. Now, pick a section to edit (Comments, grouping or genre are the best choices) and enter a tag such as "Audiobook".
Now, create a SmartPlaylist to only show anything with that particular tag.
For example, "Genre contains audiobook". Only files with Audiobook will show up.
Forgive me if you knew how to do this, but I figured as a new user this might be helpful.

  • Audiobook folder help?

Can anyone tell me how to get audiobooks already included in the library (MP3s) to list/display under the Audiobook folder in the left pane?
Neither drag & drop nor ensuring the tags are set as "Audiobook" seems to achieve this.

You may have to change the file type to m4b. I only recently discovered this - check out this site for instructions.

  • Apps won't stay in folder

I now have 3 APPs that won't stay in their folders after sync. I download, move from page 2 into a folder and all is well. Then when I sync, they are moved to pg 2 again.
    Whats up with that?

    Strange...
After the original post I decided to put the APPS in their folders then reboot the iPad. Once I rebooted the apps were back on page 2. So I moved them back to folders. Then you post came and I sync'd, I looked in the APPS view of the ipad link on itunes and everything was cool...no apps on pg 2. So I finished sync and checked, all was ok. So I opened each app and left them open while performing another sync. Still in the folders! Really Strange!
So I will hang with this one open for a few more days be fore I let it go.
Thanks for the idea! I had forgotten about that view.

  • Where is my Audiobook Folder?

I've had my 20G iPod clickwheel (b&w display) for a little over a year and I just started to get some audiobooks. How do I put it in the "Audiobooks" category on my ipod? Nothing in itunes is showing up that says audiobooks. I could make a playlist but I want the audiobook speed and playback options. Just a little confused.
note: I manually manage my songs from itunes to my iPod.

Do I need to delete the files out of iTunes (but NOT
to the trash) and then reimport them to enable them
to appear under the Audiobook filter in the Search

I didn't need to do that, Robert. Once I'd done the importing and modified the files according to the links I sent you, my audiobooks appeared in my audiobook folder. I haven't, however, tried to find them with the Search Bar. I'd try now, but my computer is on its way to TX or TN (they didn't specify) for much-needed hardware repairs.

  • Collection folder won't stay closed

I have a Collection set (with nested sub-collections) which won't stay closed. I click the twistie to collapse it, and one second later, it opens again.
Has anyone else seen this behavior, or have any insight into its cause?

Usually caused by a sub-collection (or sub-folder) being 'selected' ... 'select' a different collection/folder, and then it should work

  • How to transfer audiobook files from 'music' to 'audiobooks' folder

How do I transfer an audiobook downloaded from the web from my music lists to my audiobooks folder. Or how can I download directly to the audiobooks folder. It always defaults to music on my Ipod nano

    Hi,welcome,
If you click the audio book then go to file > get info then go to options > media kind then choose audio book from the drop down menu. You will also need to check the box underneath that that says: remember play back position, then just hit OK.
It should now come up as an audio book
Hope that helps, let me know

  • Adding audio book cd's to the iTunes Audiobooks folder

I am able to add the contents of audiobook cd's obtained from my local lending library to the iTunes Music library folder. I am unable to add the contents of these cd's to the Audiobooks folder in the iTunes library. How can I do this so that the audiobook files are not mixed in with the music files?

    TWC65 wrote:
Great article. Maybe this will have to be a rhetorical question but: Why haven't iTunes' designers realized audiobooks need an album-level menu???
Because all CD's are created equal. How is iTunes supposed to differentiate an audiobook cd from a regular music CD and know what to do with it?
The AAC format already allows for chaptering, its just that iTunes does not support authoring to that format though other software exists that does allow for this.

  • No subfolder organisation in Audiobooks folder...help!

    Hi folks,
I have just purchased an iPod Classic 160GB. I have audiobooks organised in iTunes 10.2 and they appear in the iTunes Library under the "Books" folder. All well and good.
Now, I have synced all my music and audiobooks to the iPod and I can indeed see the music and audiobooks on the iPod but...in the Audiobooks folder on the iPod there are no subfolders, just a very long list containgin all the audiobook chapters.
My (very reasonable) expectation is that on the iPod the audiobooks would be organised on similar lines to the Music folder (author, album), but I can't seem to find any option to make this so.
I have explored and rejected the following solutions:
       * Use search: No, I don't want to use the search facility on the iPod to navigate to my audiobooks.
       * Use playlists: No, I do not want to create a playlist for every audiobook.
Please help, as having a single Audibooks folder with all audiobook chapters from all audiobooks is unaccaptable.
    Thanks.

  • My Itunes will not stay open, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open

My Itunes will not stay open. Everytime I open it it just gives me a wait signal and then closes down on it's own. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open.... what should I do now?

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • When I boot up my Mac, Messages opens automatically. I quit the app, but it just re-opens itself. It won't stay off!!! I can't figure out what's wrong with it!

For the past few months, my Mac has been acting weird. EVERY time I boot up the computer, Messages opens automaticallly (I am runing OS X 10.8.x). I quit the app, but it just re-opens a few seconds later! It just won't stay off! I've looked it up online and nothing helps. I have no idea what to do!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
