Auto-spawn/decay of servers in a Tux Application
I am trying to use the auto-spawn/decay feature available with Tuxedo for MSSQ servers - while servers decay successfully, I am unable to get servers to spawn automatically, even when more than 4 requests are outstanding for 20 seconds, and the highwater, create_time parameters are 1, 3 respectively.

We expect to be using a cluster, so I guess I will use the cluster infrastructure
to fire off scripts.

Beware, however, that a temporary network failure could look like a machine
failure, in which case automatic migration could cause more problems
than it
solves. That's why Tuxedo doesn't attempt automatic migration.
For very HA solutions, a hardware HA system such as HP's MCServiceGuard,
Veritas, etc. would fire scripts to migrate the Tux servers when a failure
was
(reliably) detected.

IPv6 Auto config .. Servers getting two addresses...
Hi Guys,
Just trying to figure out what the "best" way is to enable auto config on a vlan..
Currently, I have ipv6 enabled and left the rest as default.
This means that servers get two /64 addresses.
One is from the local MAC address ( ie., its padded ff:fe )
One is an address from the vlans /64 , Ie its not padded but an actual address.
Now,
My question is..
Is this ok?
Should I be happy and leave it so server sget two addresses? or should I have some config in place that only allows them to autoconfig from MAC and not get another assigned?
Thanks for your feedback.

Got a website? Need some live chat software?
Live chat software for websites. Increase sales. The main roles of the RA in IPv6 are to:
(1) exhibit the link-local gateway address of the sending router (this is not an RA option, and unlike v4, not a DHCPv6 option either)
(2) describe which prefixes are on-link; those will be resolved by clients using neighbor discovery, whereas all others will be forwarded to a gateway router.
The prefixes advertised by the router each have a flag bit indicating whether or not they are available for autoconfiguration. The RA also has global flag bits indicating whether or not the client should use DHCPv6; the M bit for managed addresses, and the O bit for other network configurations options. The usual combinations would be M-O- (no DHCP), M+O+ (full DHCP), or M-O+ (static DHCP, addresses are autoconfigured from the prefixes flagged as available). In practice most production network are running dual-stack with DHCPv4 and either static or SLAAC v6, partly because downlevel clients like windows XP and older OS-X either don't implement DHCPv6 at all, or get it wrong, not to mention the DHCPv6 problems in most consumer grade wifi gear.
The client controls whether it is doing static or dynamic addressing, and if dynamic how it picks its host part. EUI-64 mappings off the 48-bit ethernet MAC and privacy addresses are only two of its options; there are others.
In your case, I think you have to go with:
* router flags on-link prefixes as not available for autoconfiguration, tells clients to use managed addresses
* DHCPv6 server (not necessarily the router) hands out the v6 addresses you want
Most Cisco gear is willing to enforce EUI-64 mappings on host parts, if you want to be that draconian. Other v6 packets could get dropped.

Auto download from internal servers?
How do I setup an internal server to provide the JRE for auto download?
Our web start application runs on an private intranet with no internet access.
I need to know what files need to be loaded on the server. I understand that the .cab file is one of them.
What are the other files that need for be placed on the server for auto download to function? How do I setup an internal server to provide the

available on the intranet, and provide an HREF

How to set bundles to auto-install on new servers?
What are the correct install / assignment options to set to make sure that new servers that become registered in Zenworks get the bnudle pushed to them?
I want all new servers to install a specific bundle. Do I set an assignment schedule to a dynamic server group that will include all new Zenworks servers? Won't that only assign the bundle to install on the servers that are in that group at the time I set the schedule (and not future servers that enter the group)?
If anyone knows the correct way to configure this, please let me know! Thanks.Originally Posted by CityRoamer

If I do a date specific schedule (one time), will that be enough to have the bundle pushed down to new devices in that group permanently? I tried looking at the documentation, but I couldn't find any that talked about this specific scenario.
Thanks
You could do it in several ways, for example:
-Date specific, pick a today's date and check the box "Process immediately if device unable to execute on schedule".
-Event, Device boot.
Make sure that the Install action option is set to "Install once per device" or if it's a launch action then set it's option to "Run once for each device" or have an system requirement (file exists/regkey or something else) on the action to check somehow if the bundle have been installed on the device or not.

Utilizing auto-increment/identity fields for primary key with "application" identity
Is it possible to utilise an auto-increment (identity in MS SQL Server)
field for the primary key field when using "application" identity? To the best of my knowledge, you cannot use auto-increment. Due to the
differences in the way that identities are generated at the datastore
(upon insert) vs. JDO (upon makePersistent), this feature of SQLServer is
not supported yet.
However, we do provide a variety of other ways of generating identity
which may provide a closer fit to what you want, and
our users may have some experience in solving your problem.

Spawning a new process from a java application
Hi,
Was wondering if there is any way to spawn a new java application (not as a Thread) from a running application?
ie, class A and class B are both applications: both have public static void main() methods, and i want class A to spawn a class B application in a separate console window
I have tried the samy by using java.lang.Runtime and java.lang.Process class but I could not satisfy myself.
Do you guys have any idea...??Hi,
I tried as you instructed. See, there is one batch file named s.bat in the current directory and I am trying to run my application which in turn executes following command in Runtime.getRuntime().exec() method,
start command /k s.bat
on execution of this line it throws IOException as,
Executing : start command /k s.bat
java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: start command /k s.bat error=2

at java.lang.Runtime.exec(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Runtime.exec(Unknown Source)
at RuntimeTest.main(RuntimeTest.java:17)
line no. 17 goes like this,
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
Am i wrong at any strage or what..?? I suggest you also try to do the same. I am working on Windows NT 4.0 platform. It may be more restrictive....?? I don't know exact reason why it is not allowing me to do so???
Any comment?? -
Can I use OBIEE WebLogic Servers for NON-OBIEE Applications ?
Hi guys !
OBIEE 11g comes with Weblogic 10.3.X. Technically, there is nothing stopping me from installing my own custom JEE Applications in a WebLogic domain (bifoundation or a new one), correct ?
These applications have nothing to do with OBIEE. Rather I'm using the provided WL env as a standard JEE Application Server env.
Have you guys had any experience with it ? Am I going to break OBIEE because of this ?
Thanks. As long as you are good with Weblogic configuration no issues, if at all if you log a SR with Oracle for your custom configuration they may question you.
This just my opinion, I may be wrong. -
OC4Js on different servers sharing the same application
Does anyone have some suggestions to how I can get non-clustered mid-tier OC4Js to share the same application stored on a shared NFS mount?
Right now, what I've done is created the OCJ4_Dev1 on mid1 and OC4J_Dev2 on mid2, then changed their server properties for application and application deployments to point to the shared NFS, but different directories.
Is there some way they can use the same directory? I can think of a number of ways of doing this with links etc, but maybe has some better ideas? Basically, I want the same "source" for two different OC4Js, but without confusing the instance configurations.I think there are many options around this, but a simple way I managed it was to have 2 windows accounts, and each with a different iTunes library. I think you can now share multiple libraries on the one account, I'm sure there's an answer in the support pages here.

Auto-Deployment and Restarting Managed Server
Hi,
We are using WebLogic Server 7.0 SP2 on Solaris 8. Yesterday, a developer copied
over a new WAR file into the applications directory. Then he ried to restart the
managed server. This appeared to hang, so he tried restarting the admin. server,
which also failed. Looking at the log, it looks like the admin. server is trying
to deploy apps. from the applications/backup directory.
After I removed the backup directory and edited config.xml to remove all references
to this directory, I was able to startup the Admin. server (though there were
still some errors; see later) and the managed server.
The servers are actually running in "developemnt" mode and have the Aut-Deploy
feature enabled, so my theory is that the auto-deployment was conflicting with
the managed server restart. He shouldn't have had to restart the managed server
since Auto-Deploy is enabled, right?
I'm also wondering about these errors I got when I the Admin. server finally started:

Thanks,
PaulThe short answer to your question is that auto-deployment and multiple
servers don't mix.
If you have a single-server domain and choose to use auto-deployment,
that'll work fine.
Once you have separate admin/managed servers, you need to use
weblogic.Deployer, the wldeploy ant task (8.1), or the console to deploy
applications.

I've just successfully implemented Multisite server 2012 R2 DirectAccess in a child domain of a global company with numerous sub domains. I'd like to limit the scope of the auto discovery of management servers in 2012 R2 DA is anyone aware of
any way of doing this?
During the default initial configuration of DirectAccess Auto-discovery of domain controllers is performed for all domains in the same forest as the DirectAccess server and client computers.
In my scenario the number of sub domains and multinational nature of the company means that the DA servers cannot contact all DCs for every child domain in the forest.
This means the Operations Status page in the Remote Access Management console always shows the status of the Domain Controller check as "critical" leaving a red X amongst my nice green ticks. It's untidy and at first glance it looks like there
are major problems with the service.
The DA servers, Client machines and users are in a single sub domain so we have no need to contact the other child domain DCs.
I looked into using the Remove-DAMgmtServer PowerShell cmdlet however this is not applicable since it cannot be used to remove automatically configured management servers such as DCs.
Also the child domain DCs don't actually appear in the management servers list.Hi, a colleague of mine had the same problem in a DirectAccess deployment in a large organization tat have a multi-domain forest. He had no choice to open network flow to have at least one domain controller per domain in the forest.

Currently, my SharePoint 2013 Farm has Workflows 2013 and SQL Report Services installed on app servers, along with other applications. Workflows 2013 isn't working correctly (installed prior to my coming on board with the organization), I'm assuming it
is a configuration issue, but rather than re-configure, I've read that is recommended to be a standalone server. It was also recommended by a MSFT rep that our report services have its own independent server. Currently, Report Services is also installed on
an app server that runs other applications on the farm.
Has anyone had any experience with installing Workflows 2013 and/or SQL Report Services on independent vs. existing application servers?
Additionally, my existing application servers have 24 GB of RAM (I believe the recommendation for SharePoint production environments is 12 GB), should I plan for the potentially new servers (Workflows and Report Services) to also have 24 GB of RAM? Not really
sure if it will be needed if they have dedicated tasks.
Thanks for any input you can provide! It entirely depends on load. WFM will work just fine installed on servers in the SharePoint farm. SSRS preferably should go on the end-user facing servers for better performance.
The questions you're asking are all "it depends" :)
