Auto-syncing ipod with itunes: how not to have it synced with whole library

I remember a year ago when I had itunes automatically sync with my ipod, it created a playlist, something along the name of "NAME's iPOD SONGS" or something like that. And then every time i connected my ipod, it would only look into that playlist to see what's been added or removed, and so it would sync only with that folder.
But now, it wants to sync with my whole library, which doesn't fit on my ipod. How do I make it sync with only a playlist instead?
Thanks

Connect your iPod to iTunes
When it appears click on the iPod icon in the left hand pane
Select the Music tab
Near the top of the tab select *Sync Music* & *Selected playlists:*
Check the playlists you want to include, uncheck those you don't
Click Apply

  • Somehow my itunes started a new library and I lost my old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music to my ipod without deleting stored music from ipod. How can I start using this new library and sync the new music without losing existing music.

Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library.  Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by
ICRC or ABRT error as described in the section called “ATA/ATAPI device error (non-NCQ / non-CHECK CONDITION)”.
Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.
On some controllers, command timeout. In this case, there may be a mechanism to determine that the timeout is due to transmission error.
Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

    Hello, BAHannebaum.
The article below should resolve any device not being recognized in iTunes issue that you are experiencing.  The most common issues are the Apple Mobile Device Support driver or iTunes is outdated.  Start with the first step and test the results after each step processed.

Unless you are in the US then films can't currently be re-downloaded from the store (and not all films can be in the US). If you are in the US then you could see if it's in the Purchased link on the left-hand side of the iTunes store home page for re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

Hey my iphone is not synching with itune, how can i solve this problem?

It can sync with a 32-bit, so long as you have the correct version of iTunes installed. I'm assuming that you are referring to a Windows based computer, so check out this support document regarding the device not being recognized by Windows. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

How do I download only selected audiobooks from iTunes to my iPod.? I don't want to download the whole library..i have an iPod classic and Mac laptop with the latest ios.

If you check songs, simply sync the entire library.
But I highly recommend (and it is far simpler) to create a playlist (or multiple playlists) and select only that playlist to sync.
    Leave everything checked.
Then simply add/remove from these playlists and sync away.

  • Sync ATV with iTunes, but not transfer purchases?

    Hi all,
I'm currently syncing my Apple TV with iTunes on my iMac but the purchases I make on the Apple TV are really eating into the memory of my computer. I would like to sync my iTunes library and photos with my Apple TV without transferring the purchases I make on my Apple TV to iTunes to try and save some space. Is this possible?
It seems that if I choose not to sync my Apple TV with iTunes the content that has already been synced will be removed. Is this the case?
    Thanks for your help.

The 'reverse sync' is necessary because:
1 - There's no way to get purchases off AppleTV, say to transfer to another one or ipod etc, without it copying back to iTunes
2 - It allows you to make a backup copy on optical disc or external drive
3 - You need to back the stuff up as if AppleTV failed you'd lose the purchases which could be costly
4 - it's the way it's designed to work, AppleTV is designed to be 'synced' with iTunes media - we don't all agree with this but it's the way it is.
It seems that if I choose not to sync my Apple TV with iTunes the content that has already been synced will be removed. Is this the case?
Yes in essence. If you are configured to sync, you can choose not to have the item that synced back on AppleTV by deselecting it from any custom lists.
What you need to be wary of is deleting the stuff that reverse synced from iTunes - if you do it'll delete from AppleTV, poof, gone!
    Thanks for your help.
The best option is to keep some of your stuff on an external drive - it doesn't need to be connected all the time.
Ensure you have backups of purchases.
That done, copy those titles into a folder (say 'AppleTV purchases' on an external drive. Change iTunes Preferences Advanced tab not to copy file to the library.
Next (be sure you've backed up!), delete the things in iTunes that are on your computer to free up internal drive space, then drag teh external drive folder containing copies of those items to iTunes - they may need to sync across to AppleTV again, but once there they'll stay even if the external drive is not connected provided you have not excluded them from syncing.
    Bottom line, backup, backup, backup....

  • Ipod and itunes are not syncing

    Hi,
I have uploaded albums onto iTunes and tried to sync with my ipod (ipod nano 4gb 2nd generation)....it is telling me that Ipod has sync but nothing is showing in on my ipod!???
So frustrating... please tell me this is a user error
    Ruth

    Hi Ruth!
This could be caused by a couple of different factors.
First off, are you sure that you are safely disconnecting your iPod from your computer?
If you don't have Disk Use enabled when automatically syncing your iPod with iTunes, you don't have much to worry about in that respect.
(After syncing, the iPod ought to go from the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, to the normal screen. When your iPod displays the Main Menu, it is safe to disconnect it).
If your iPod continues to display "Do Not Disconnect", this is most likely because disk use is enabled.
With Disk Use enabled, you will have to manually eject your iPod in iTunes (click on the little arrow next to your iPod's name in the Source List of iTunes).
Also, see this for mmore details:
    Safely Disconnect iPod
If that doesn't seem like it's a possibility, then let's try assigning your iPod a different drive letter (such non-syncing symptoms can be caused by drive letter confusion on your computer).
Be sure to change it to something further along in the alphabet, like "M", for example.
    For instructions, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Also, if niether of those things work, these five iPod troubleshooting steps would be worth a try:
