Auto-Timed Screen Captures...possible??

So, I'm looking at automatically capturing my screen with a START and STOP time, each day, every day.  Basically I need to see when my software pops up an alert but I don't want to sit at my computer and stare at it all day...rather scrub through a screen capture video (1 fps) that has a time/day stamp on it.
I don't own Captivate, but I wanted to know if this was possible with this app before throwing down $800.00.
Is what I'm looking for make sense?   If so, has anyone tried this?

Hi Pete
You mention capturing a video screen. I might ask if it's resulting in a blank area where you should see the video? If so, in SnagIt, you likely need to enable capturing a "layered" window.
Hope you find something that works for you... Rick

  • Screen Capture Possible?

Is it at all possible to do a screen capture of the iPhone's screen without hacking the phone? I want to do something like they do with the MacWorld Keynote and the commercials where they just display the video output on a different screen. I am wanting to make some tutorials on the iphone and it would be pretty nice to just record the screen as I navigate around. Thanks in advance for your reply(s),
    Chris

    sorry not currently possible

  • HT201361 Can I change the directory where screen capture saves the png files?

    hi:
    screen capture questions:
    1) Can I change the directory/place where the macbook (maverick osx) screen capture it putting the png/images?
Currently it is going to my desktop and I would like it in another spot.
    2) Can I change the default name to include a number e.g so each screen capture increments by 1 rather than telling sequence by time?
    thankyou

If you use the Grab.app in Applications/Utilities, you can name the file whatever you want and place it whereever you want. Filenames are not automatically incremented, however.
The disadvantage is that it saves the capture only in .tiff format, not .png
But double-clicking on the saved .tiff file will open it in Preview.app, and you can then Option+Save As in .png format in that same folder, or elsewhere.
Grab.app has some other nice features too, such as selecting a cursor shape to be displayed (or none), and doing a timed screen capture.
And of course there are other apps...

  • Is screen capture image making possible?

We need to do a screen capture and store the image. Is that possible to do?
In regular Java, screen capture is possible with the com.sun.image.codec.jpeg.JPEGImageEncoder, java.io.File and java.io.FileOutputStream.
These are not available in J2ME. Would screen capture still be possible, and if so, how could it be implemented?

Likely the only way to do that is by accessing directly the WinAPI. However doing efficient screen capture through WinAPI is not as easy as calling a single Windows API function. It is quite a bit more involved and the code needs to be able to handle various bit depths in order to work in various screen resolution setting.

  • Screen Capture Timing Problem

I did a screen capture using Captivate and when I bring it over to my editing program to synch with the speakers video, the total running time of the screen capture is off by a considerable margin.  The video (which was started and stopped almost simultaneously with the screen capture) is much longer than the screen capture.
I'm afraid that, in the screen capture something was checked to not record real time.  Is that an option?  Thanks in advance!!!
    I'm running Captivate 4.

    Hi there
Indeed there is such an option. You find it by clicking Edit > Preferences > Recording > Settings > Actions in real time.

  • Is it possible for me to screen capture from one desktop while working on another desktop?

I would like to use QuickTime screen capture feature on Mountain Lion to record a video from Desktop 1, while working separately on Desktop 2. However, QuickTime records this by following my movements to Desktop 2 and then recording what I am doing in Desktop 2. Is there any way around this (either using Quick Time or perhaps a different program/software)?
    Thanks

    No.
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.

  • Screen Capture Timing

I am trying to write a program which screenshots (using a robot) an HTMLeditorkit inside a jWindow. My problem is that I need a way to ensure that the window is completely drawn before the robot takes the screen capture. I have tried using invokeLater() but it does not seem to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is it with screenshots today..... homework assignment?
Check out the link shown below:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=57&thread=375682
Just use the technique shown at the link to make sure that the page is loaded, then trigger your robot to capture the screenshot.

  • How to get a custom screen capture size smaller than my slide size

    Hi,
I'm trying to capture a fixed sized screen on my computer (a softphone) for use in a youtube hd size format training video. I can't seem to figure out how to customize the size of my screen capture so it fits only around the phone and leaves me blank space on my slides. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Nikkie

    Hi there
This should be simple. From Captivate, when you set it up to record you simply define an area there.
Or are you possibly saying you cannot consistently get a size set so that you can record many different projects perhaps over several days? If that's the case, perhaps you need to investigate using something like the freeware Sizer utility to configure things a bit.

  • Since Firefox 6.0 copying images, by either Win 7 fxn or by screen capture fxn's, no longer works

-- At least, this is the way it seems... a letter I wrote first to the VMN Toobox staff (and to Firefox)...
Hi VMN Staff/Inventor – and Hi to my favorite browser’s staff at Firefox,
I must say that I really love your Screen Capture fxn for the VMN Toobox 4.25! I use it ALL of the time! Hopefully, I have sent you some money already. Tonight however something is really wrong! When I fired up the computer this afternoon and, as usual, was doing research for my office, some webpage logos wouldn't copy, so as usual I dropped down the VMN Toolbox selections, selected Screen Capture and arranged the capture bars over the image, got the yellow flash-across the selected area and pasted the picture in to the document. I looked and looked, reshot the image several times but unbelievably … THE SCREEN CAPTURE IMAGE on the document WAS BLANK!
This NEVER occurred before. And, even after restarting the computer it still did not work.
Then I happened to be in a document where VMN screen capture images had been added - they were ALL blank! Checking other documents - all screenshot images in all documents are blank, totally whited out, with the black lines of where the images used to be right there, emphasizing that something is gone. Like a painting stolen from a museum wall and the photon shadow is all that remains.
I had not used Awesome Screenshot for quite a while, but there it was up on my toolbar - tried that - same damn thing! What's going on? I am pretty certain I let Mozilla FireFox go ahead and update from v5.x to v6.0 as soon as I signed on, and several add-ons were suddenly "no longer compatible," but as far as I can tell your software doesn't rely on any plug-ins. The Awesome Screenshot extension add-on for Firefox was still enabled, yet it did not work.
Further troubleshooting - as I was at my desktop on the network in the office, I then fired up my laptop. This time I DID NOT allow Mozilla Firefox to update from v5.x to 6.0. The VMN toolbox screenshot worked fine! Uh, oh Firefox…?
So, I will be sending this message to Firefox also - I detest Microsoft, only use their software at all only because I HAVE to, I almost never use IE v8.x or 9.x or wherever it is now - but can your people at VMN (and y'all at Firefox) explain how the only browser I use, Firefox, could possibly reach in to my documents file and cause the screenshots downloaded to the clipboard, then to documents, to suddenly no longer be able to be seen? Is this even possible?
Lastly, maybe you know something about this - is there any way to actually "see" the clipboard - what's on it at any given time? I cannot find any way to access either file names or images existing on the clipboard no matter how much is on it, or what program I'm using. (An IT level/web developer person I am not, just a physician.)
I have Windows 7 Professional on my desktop, 4GB RAM, the network/server can only use a 32-bit system type, and everything is highly maintenanced by myself and our IT team, so absolutely everything else is fine. On my laptop I have a Windows 7 Home Premium OS installed and working fine on a brand new HP Pavilion g4 Notebook PC w/ 4GB RAM, 64-bit system type.
Any time to send me any ideas? Thanks. And you too, Firefox - what's going on?

  • Changing file type format in Screen Capture (shift command 4)

You'd think this would be in a preference menu! But it's nowhere to be found in any apps preference or system preferences.... I've seen posts how to do it in Terminal... and people sell programs to do it.... but Tiger and Leopard have t built in.. sort of....
The default file format when using SCREEN CAPTURE (ShiftCommand4) was a .pdf ... but then it was changed to .png Some people can't read .png... so I wanted my captures to be in .jpg format.
You can change the file format type of your SCREEN CAPTURE to any of the following:
JPG, JPG-2000, TIFF, BMP, PDF, Photoshop, PICT, SGI, PBG, TGA
But first you have to have a file you want to change (say it is a png).
    Open the file using Preview.
Once open, under File (in the menu bar) go down to SAVE AS.
There's you'll see FORMAT and a pull down menu. Choose which one you want...
Screen capture will now open your captured pictures in that format.
    Crazy, huh?

The OP here was using a keyboard shortcut, not Grabber.
I did some further exploring. I just tried TinkerTool again, and again was able to change the file format of saved screencapture files to jpeg. TinkerTool modifies the com.apple.screencapture.plist file the same way that the Terminal command does.
This clearly works for command-shift-3 and command-shift-4, which save the screencapture image as a file. However, on looking more closely at the O.P.s initial post in this thread, he/she actually said
    I use keyboard shortcut control/command/shift/4
When you include the control key in the command, the screencapture image gets saved to the clipboard instead of to a file, and you wouldn't normally be aware of its format until you pasted the clipboard contents somewhere else. I don't know where the OP was pasting it, but as was noted in the thread cited above by Baltwo, pasting a sceencapture image from the clipboard into a mail.app message results in a .tiff file being pasted. I also find this to be true in my system - perhaps this is what the OP was doing all along.
However this is an issue caused by the receiving app, not by the screencapture function. It's possible to look directly at the contents of the clipboard via:
    Finder>Edit Menu>Show Clipboard
With my screenshot format set to jpeg by TinkerTool, I used control-command-shift-4 to save a screenshot to the clipboard. Looking directly at the clipboard in Finder as above, the clipboard image was a jpeg. When I then pasted the clipboard contents into a mail message and used Mail>File Menu>QuickLook Attachments, the pasted graphic in the mail message was a .tiff.

  • Trying to increase the sound of recorded screen captures

Hi. I'm making screen capture movies with Snapz PRo 2 and they are being saved as QT movies on my desktop. When I open them in QT and try to increase the sound volume, the setting don't stick if I try to raise the volume over 0db. I read somewhere that QT won't let you save volume over 0db, is that true?
If so, does anyone know how I can increase the gain on the movies without having to load them into Final Cut or iMovie? Is there some program that will let me just edit the sound of a QT movie?
    Thanks in advance.
    Antonio

Hey, thanks for the tips. But... I don't think I'm making myself clear here.
I don't want to spend ANY time in post with these tutorial screencasts that I'm making. If I did, I'd just whip out my Sennheiser and my mixer and take the whole shebang into FCP and cut it and sweeten audio there.
What I'm doing is using Snapz to capture screen actions that I'm recording as tutorials for my students. I'm using either a Blue Snowball USB mic or my Logitech 250 USB headset with mic to record my voice as I demo apps on the Mac. Snapz is using the Apple animation codec to make the movies. But, what Snapz is not doing and cannot do is help me boost the audio a bit. If it did, then I'd have a finished movie right there. As it is, I have to wait a long time for Snapz to finalize the flick. What I don't want to do is load the film up in FCP (takes time) and then export it (also takes time) and be done. I want to package these things up fast. All I need to do is boost the audio a little and everything would be great. If Quicktime Pro allowed me to do that, that would be great because it would not have to re-encode the movie again.
Maybe there is no way to do what I'm asking without doing it in FCP. If that's the case then that's what I'll do.
THe whole point of this is that I want to keep it as simple and as past as possible because I am not making any money doing this (but I am teaching for money). I offer it to my students as a value added addition to their classes.
    Thanks,
    Antonio

  • Creating training videos from screen captures?

    Hello folks,
Is it possible to create interactive videos from a series of screen captures. I understand the preferred method is to use Captivate to record a session, however, all my software walk throughs are created in a VM and installing Captivate inside a VM is not always practical.
In the past, when I worked with RWD uPerform, I captured static screens using a really good/free tool called Gadwin screen capture. Once completed, I could add these screens into RWD, select clickable areas and RWD would do the rest by simulating clicks, motions, etc.
    Is this possible in Captivate?
Thus far, my experience with Captivate involved doing direct recordings, in a manner similar to Camtasia.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
If you are seeking a smaller footprint (read mobile or possibly portable) version of Captivate, please request same using the Wish Form. Adobe development does pay attention to these. If enough folks request something or report a certain issue, it gains a higher priority on the list of features or fixes.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How to Silence ICS Built-In Screen Capture?

I just learned from reading in a forum that ICS on the Bionic comes with the ability to screen capture, which is very useful for backing up my home screens in case of a FDR.  To do this, press Volume Down and Power button at the same time and hold momentarily until a camera sound.  The camera sound is loud, and regardless whether I have every volume setting to zero, it still makes the sound, and loudly.  Is there a way to mute that?  Or is it a safety/privacy issue forced by Verizon/Android/Motorola?
On another topic, when I installed the ICS update (after clearing system cache), I experienced slowness, apps timing out, and phone freezing.  This was even after 4 days of allowing the ICS update to settle in.  So, I ended up doing a FDR.  Then, I couldn't install apps from Google Play. It would just show the Downloading progress bar, but no icon in the notification bar.  So I FDR a couple of more times. Still no avail. Then I installed some backed up .apk files from my SD card and that worked. Also, I pushed an install from my PC to my phone.  And after quite a while of starting and stopping the app install attempts, Google Play finally started to download.  Not sure what the cause was, or if it was a waiting game, but all is well now.
Results: Speedy phone, battery lasting longer, and super fast boot up (for me, compared to Android 2.3 which took forever for my phone).
Was not happy at all at first, but now I am after biting the bullet and performing a FDR which I always dislike due to the hassle.  Took me a good 3-4 hours to install all of my apps, in addition to the Google Play issues I had to work through.

I have discovered that the system volume of the phone is sometimes different from the phone and media volume that you can access in the phone's settings. Try downloading the sound manager that can access all of the volume settings. Once installed, see if you can control the system volume separately from the other volume levels and try the screenshot again.
