Autocasting and session.getAttribute() in Java 1.5

I am trying to migrate an application to Java 1.5 and I'm having difficulties with the session.getAttribute() method and autocasting.
I have a Hashtable which I declare like below:
Hashtable<String,AdmUserData> data = new Hashtable<String,AdmUserData>();
AdmUserData is a class I use. This declaration works fine.
I use the HttpSession object to store this Hashtable:
session.setAttribute("user_data", data);
The problem I have is when I try to get the Hashtable from the session object:
Hashtable<String,AdmUserData> data = session.getAttribute("user_data");
This gives me an error of "incompatible types":
incompatible types
found : java.lang.Object
required: java.util.Hashtable<java.lang.String,cy.com.netinfo.util.AdmUserData>
session.getAttribute() method returns Object; why doesn't autocasting work in this case and how can I manage to overcome this problem?
I tried the following with no success:
Hashtable<String,AdmUserData> data = (Hashtable)session.getAttribute("user_data");
I also tried the following again with no success:
Hashtable<String,AdmUserData> data = (Hashtable<String,AdmUserData>)session.getAttribute("user_data");
Thanx
Demetris.

incompatible types
found : java.lang.Object
required:
java.util.Hashtable<java.lang.String,cy.com.netinfo.ut
il.AdmUserData>I would suggest you not to use generics here. I doubt if the J2EE libraries still support / use that.

  • Session.putValue() and session.setAttribute

    do I have to use session.putValue() before using session.setAttribute() and session.getAttribute() ?
    becuase I have one JSP page include one form (action=TheSameJspFile.JSP) several Submit bottuns each Bottun has its Value.
    in the JSP I request the submit value and depends on it doing stuff ...
    each Value I have to get and to set a session Attribute, if I want to putValue it will delete the old value.
    how can I solve this?

    You need to store something in the session before you can retrieve it.
    So, you need to do a setAttribute() to place something in the session. Then you use getAttribute() to retrieve it. DO NOT use putValue as it is deprecated and has been replaced by setAttribute(). DO NOT use getValue() as it is deprecated and has been replaced by getAttribute().

  • Session storage between Java and PL/SQL

    Hi all,
    We have made Java servlet using session storage. The data stored is valid until session is changed. Seems that session is changed during logon or even if web page (where the servlet is located) is refreshed!
    PL/SQL doesn't lost the session storage data during logon. But is it possible to find Java session storage from PL/SQL session storage?
    Java session storage doesn't use domain name or subdomain which are mandatory for PL/SQL session storage.
    Portal version is 3.0.9.8.5
    Thanks,

    If Oracle Portal is running on Apache/Jserv, which is the only application server it runs on as far as I know, then that's your problem. JDeveloper uses one of the newer Servlet specificatione, 2.1 or 2.2, where as Jserv is using a very old one. 2.0, which doesn't support the session.setAttribute() method.
    I happen to know a little bit about portal and the JPDK. You do have the option of using the ProviderSession object that is provided by the JPDK PortletRenderRequest.getSession() method. I believe they have a setAttribute() method in there. In fact, if you want this object in the user's session, then you HAVE to use the ProviderSession from the JPDK.
    There are some other configurations you have to set to use this, you must specify to use session in your provider.xml, and you must also set the login frequency on the provider registration page to "Once per user session".

  • Help with WindowsDesktopSSO and AMIdentity.getAttributes

    Hi guys and girls,
    I need some help from you experts.
    I successfully setup, thanks to this guide
    http://blogs.oracle.com/knittel/entry/opensso_windowsdesktopsso
    and a lot of trial & errors and googling a Kerberos authentication between OpenAM version 9.5.2 and an Active Directory Server.
    When I navigate to openAM page (from a domain machine) http://<openAMhost>:<port>/opensso, it doesn't ask for credentials ...
    and I can see, with ieHttpHeaders, kerberos data exchange.
    Without creating an Active Directory DataStore (pointing to the same domain where I use kerberos data) in openAM,
    when I navigate (from a domain machine) to /opensso/idm/EndUser page, it always gives me:
    "Plug-in com.sun.identity.idm.plugins.ldapv3.LDAPv3Repo encountered an ldap exception. LDAP Error 32: The entry specified in the request does not exist."
    Since my aim was to get user information from a web app ... I thought I could have done this with an agent/SDK call as I usually do with "classic" authentication.
    Now I created a J2EE Agent (on openAM) to protect one of my application deployed on a JBoss 4.2.1-GA server.
    Agent configured with default options and these changes:
    Agent Filter Mode: J2EE_POLICY
    User Mapping Mode: USER_ID
    User Attribute Name: tried both with employeenumber and uid
    User Principal Flag: enabled
    User Token Name: UserToken
    FQDN Check: tried both with enabled and disabled
    WebAuthentication Available : Enabled
    In my application WEB-INF/jboss-web.xml looks like this:
         <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
         <jboss-web>
              <security-domain>java:/jaas/AMRealm</security-domain>
         </jboss-web>Usually, when I authenticate with "classic" (internal datastore) login, I can get user attributes programmatically with a code like this:
           private String getCredenzialiUtente(HttpServletRequest request)
                String                 SSOUsername      = null;
                SSOToken               ssoToken      = null;
                SSOTokenManager        manager           = null;
                  try
                    manager = SSOTokenManager.getInstance();
                    if ( manager == null)
                         throw new RuntimeException("Unable to Get: SSOTokenManager");
                    String ssoTokenID = AmFilterManager.getAmSSOCache().getSSOTokenForUser(request);
                    ssoToken = manager.createSSOToken(ssoTokenID);
                    if ( ssoToken == null )
                          throw new RuntimeException("Unable to Get: TokenForUser");
                    AMIdentity amid = new AMIdentity(ssoToken);
                    if(amid == null)
                       throw new RuntimeException("Unable to Get: UserIdentity");
                    SSOUsername  = amid.getName();
                    System.out.println("######### USERNAME FROM SSO: " + SSOUsername);
                    Set<String> info = new HashSet<String>();
                    info.add("uid");
                    info.add("givenName");
                    java.util.Map mappa = amid.getAttributes(info);
                    if ( mappa != null )
                        java.util.Set insieme = mappa.keySet();
                        java.util.Iterator it = insieme.iterator();
                        while ( it.hasNext() )
                            String n = it.next().toString();
                            System.out.println( n + " ==> " + mappa.get(n) );
                    else
                        System.err.println(" DAMN - NO ATTR ");
              catch (Exception exception)
                exception.getMessage();
                exception.printStackTrace();
              System.out.println("OUT getCredenzialiUtente: " + SSOUsername);
              return SSOUsername;
            }        When I log to console with default "ldapService" module (outside the domain), I can get something like:

    I thought it could be because I didn't setup LDAP DataStore ... so I set up Active Directory Data Store.
    While in openAM console (from outside domain) I can see (from Subjects tab) Active Directory users and relative information
    (like FirstName (=givenName), Surname (=sn), Full Name (=cn), etc.) ... when I try again with idm/EndUser (from a domain machine)
    I get the same error:

    P.D. By the way, my OpenAM configuration does not create any "amAuthWindowsDesktopSSO.log" :(
    I setup, from opensso/Debug.jsp message level for Authentication ... but it still doesn't create this log ... can you please tell me how to let openAM write it ?
    Again thank you

    Weird enough, changing to ADAM data store (and not "standard" AD datastore) solved the problem :D
    I still wonder why since both plugins share the same java [implementing] class...

  • "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop" with same "user name" and "session Id" recorded in different RADIUS servers.

    Hi,
    I have questions about "Accounting-Start" and "Accounting-Stop".
    1.If a NAS configured to have a primary and a backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the primary server goes down (Primary server won’t tell the NAS?). When sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the secondary. I understand the “Start-Stop” record with the same “user name” and “session-id” ideally should be recorded in the same server. If this situation happens what should both the NAS and RADIUS server do?
    2.A NAS configured to have a primary and backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the administrator decided to change the primary server (as there are problems with the previous primary). sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the new primary. This ends up the “Accounting-Start” and “Accounting-Stop” with the same “user name” and “session Id” in two RADIUS servers.
    To summarize, how to avoid the ”start-stop” pair ends up in different servers ? If it does, is it  an issue for RADIUS application ?
    Cheers,

    vignesh and BalusC,
    following is the code in front controller's doFilter method. is this not thread safe?
            HttpServletRequest req = (HttpServletRequest) request;
            HttpServletResponse res = (HttpServletResponse) response;
            HttpSession session = req.getSession();
            somepackage.User user;
            if(session.getAttribute("user") == null){
                user = new somepackage.User();
                session.setAttribute("user", user);
            }else{
                user = (somepackage.User) session.getAttribute("user");
            }user object maintains all information about a user. if it is in session scope, everything should work fine.
    another observation is after some time of usage, both people in different systems are getting same session.getId()
    in my logout page i am using
    session.invalidate();
    thanks,

  • Hi, I have quick question about use of USEBEAN tag in SP2. When I specify a scope of SESSION for the java bean, it does not keep the values that I set for variable in the bean persistent.Thanks,Sonny

    Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that
    you are accessing the bean from the session with the same name.

  • Is there a way to put session.getAttribute() in a variable

    Hi, title says it all.
    I'm trying to put session.getAttribute("xxx") in an integer variable and it does not work.
    int NoTech = Integer.parseInt(session.getAttribute("noTech"));
    does not seems to work.
    thanks, any help is appreciated :)

    What is the type of "xxx"
    Is it a String, and Integer, an Object?
    session.getAttribute() returns an Object.
    You need to cast that object to its proper type before you can use it.
    It would complain about parseInt, because that expects a String as an argument not an Object.
    If the attribute is an Integer object then:
    int noTech = ((Integer)session.getAttribute("noTech")).intValue();
    if the attribute is a String then:
    int noTech = Integer.parseInt( (String)session.getAttribute("noTech"));

  • Session tracking in java client app...*not jsp or servlets*

    Does anyone know of a way to keep a property accessible throughout a user session in a Java app? I'm writing a Java native client app with Apache Axis to access remote .NET services (web services). The service issues a session ticket upon login to implement security...this ticket needs to be accessible to all objects in the client app. In addition, this ticket needs to be "renewed" every 10 minutes or so.
    Any ideas on how to keep this ticket througout the session? And on how to update/renew every 10 minutes?
    ANY help would be appreciated Still relatively new to java...

    Hello.
    I use the following scenario in my project.
    User login to the web application then servlet keeps user data (IP-address, login name, etc) and creates a user ticket with the data. User ticket looks like a XML-element. After that I store the ticket to the Xindice DB.
    http://xml.apache.org/xindice/
    Xindice client API provides the useful methods for the ticket handling (read, update, delete).

  • Diferences between Business Delegate and Session Facade

    Hi, I've been programming with java for a long time now, but recently decided to formally studing the J2EE patterns. By now I have the intuition of many of them but in paper looks a little confusing. Let me ask you what is a clear diference between Business Delegate and Session Facade.
    For me, exposing interfaces, hiding implementations and masking the complex interactions in the back are common factors in these patterns, could you please help me to identify diferences?

    There are more subtle differences, but the basic gyst is that the Business Delegate is used on the client/presentation tier. The Session Facade is used on the server/service tier. The Business Delegate typically performs a lookup of the SessionFacade which in turn fronts a service method (EJB or otherwise). The Business Delegate pattern is typically associated with J2EE remoting and its shortcomings.

  • Session.getAttribute("somekey") returning  NULL in SessionDestroyed

    Hi all,
         session.getAttribute("somekey") is returning null  in SessionDestroyed() method of flex listener.
    Below are the steps I am following
    1) I am adding flexLister in contextInitialized method of ServletContextListener
       FlexSession.addSessionCreateListener(myListener)
    2) In sessionCreate method
         sessionCreated(FlexSession session) {
                session.addSessionDestroyListener(this)
    3) some where in applicaion I am putting a key vlaue pair in session like this
    FlexContext.getSession().setAttribute("somekey" , someVlue)  ;
    The issue is when I try to retreive vale from session
    her is how I m retreiving value
       sessionDestroyed(FlexSession session) {
              session.getAttribute("somekey");     this return null WHY ?
    This is always returning me null
    Pls note that I am RTMP channel and  version of LCDS is 2.6
    I also tried RTMPFlexSession
      RTMPFlexSession.addSessionCreateListener(myListener)
    but no luck  , still got null
    Am I doing anything wrong  ?
    One more doubt, how to explicitly put data in RTMPFlexSeesion. FlexContex.getSession () always return HttpSession and I always hence I always end up putting attribute in unintended place.
