Autofill not working on new mac mail

I have an old Imac G5. When i receive mail, send mail, when i go to type a new email, reply to, or forward to an email, all i have to do is type in the first letter of the email address of the persons first name and i will get a list of options to choose from. On my new macbook, all of my emails have transfered over BUT the autofill does NOT WORK UNLESS i send an email to that person. It is as if i need to "redo" all of the contacts for this computer to recognize them. This is very frustrating and time consuming. Any ideas???? PLEASE HELP!!! ALSO, i have noticed that if i create a draft on this computer(macbook) or send an email from here, my G5 wont have that information stored on its folder. I guess ultimately i dont feel like my computers and internet mac email accounts are as synched as they could or should be.
Cheers!
J

Mail gets its autofill data from two places: Address Book and its own previous recipients list. If you've got entries in Address Book and they're not showing up, I don't know what to tell you. For the previous recipients list (visible in Window -> Previous Recipients), the easiest way to build that list back up is to just send e-mails to people.
As for drafts and sent e-mails, in order for those to show up on both computers, they need to be stored on the server and you need to be accessing your mail using IMAP rather than POP. If you're already using an IMAP account, go to Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts, click on the Mailbox Behaviors tab and check the boxes for storing mail on the server for any mailbox whose contents should be shared. If the checkbox is off, those messages are stored in a local mailbox on the machine you're using at the time.

  • Ethernet adapter not working with new Mac Mini after NetRestore.

I'm currently working with an issue regarding Mini 4,1s and their difference from the main driver set in 10.6.4. I'm in an educational environment and attempting to effectively netrestore a hard drive image that was built on a Mini 3,1 with all possible updates made to the OS (10.6.4).
The new minis have no problem netbooting, and downloading the disc image from the server *over ethernet*. In fact, they do it in a very rapid fashion. The issue is that once the machines boot up, they no longer have ethernet capabilities. In fact, the ethernet device does not even appear in system profiler at all. After reading quite a lot about this problem, it appears that there is a difference in the driver set on the special "Mid-2010 Mini 4,1" update and the driver set found in a normal 10.6.4 install.
I have attempted various permutations of installing the Mid-2010 update, but most of them include having an existing 10.6.4 install that was not built on the Mini, and attempting to install the update over the install, or replacing the driver in suspect itself. The issue persists.
Is there something I'm missing, and is this a common problem?
tl;dr: non mac mini 10.6.4 installation copied on mac mini 4,1, and ethernet drivers don't work.

Thanks for your suggestion, I cloned my 1.83GHZ Mac Mini's main drive with Carbon Copy Cloner and restored it onto a new 2.4GHZ Mac Mini. Since the new Mac was replacing the older one's mother ship role in my HTPC setup, this method would ensure the easiest transition. Everything works fine, except that ethernet wont work, it did before, but doesn't now. I already tried several confirmed-working-by-me cables and no luck.
I tried your step and understand the logic behind them, but as soon as I replaced my files with the ones you suggested from my 2.4GHZ Mac Install Disc, the system reports some conflicts. I repaired permissions after and before this happens (tried twice, once after successfully restoring via Tim Machine) and still it occurred. After reboot Ethernet was still dead and so was WiFi. Luckily I was able to get everything back to normal by replacing the entire Extensions folder with the one prior to the changes. Restoring the two files alone would not do it.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Rear Audio Jack not Working on New Mac Pro

    Hello All,
Here's the deal. I just pursuaded my company to buy a brand new Mac Pro to run FCP Studio 2 as a test run to see if they perform well enough to eventually replace our remaining PC's. We've had the Mac Pro for less then two weeks and I'm running into an issue that I can't resolve, and I don't want to fall on my face. The rear Audio input jack keeps failing. Meaning sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't when speakers are plugged into. The jack on the front works fine, but the rear jack doesn't appear to recognize the speakers after the computer is shut down then restarted. You have to restart the computer 2 or 3 times before the speakers start pumping out sound. Which in all honesty is extermely dissappointing to me. And if I have to bring this thing in to get serviced, my boss will not move forward with buying anymore Mac Pro's, which I'm working hard to make happen.
    Please help me out.

no difference in ports just troubleshooting, ie if it didn't work on any of the 4 ports, likely a kb issue
if it worked on one of the other 3 ports, you have a broken usb port on the mac pro

  • Adobe Air Applications Not Working on New Mac

I had 2 Adobe Air based applications (TweetDeck & Polaris) running well on my old Mac running OSx 10.4.11 and then migrated everything to my new Mac running 10.5.6. thanks for the help!!!

    Hello nyc213,
It sounds like you are unable to use your LaserJet printer with your computer. I recommend the troubleshooting in the following article named:
OS X Mavericks: Solve printing problems
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14142
    Check the printer
Go to the printer and check the following:
It’s turned on and is displaying normal status lights.
It has paper, and the paper isn’t jammed.
It has enough ink or toner.
    Its cables are properly connected.
If your printer is attached to your computer’s USB port, open System Information, then click USB. If the printer’s name appears in the hardware list but the printer doesn’t work, review the printer’s documentation for further troubleshooting information.
    Check your device’s USB connection
If the printer is on the network, open Printers & Scanners preferences, then add the printer again to create a new printer queue. For instructions, see:
    Set up a printer
Use the best software for your printer
Make sure you have the correct version of your printer’s software (also called its printer driver).
If you’re using a printer that another user is sharing, make sure you’re both using the same version of the printer software. To find out which version you’re using, select the printer in Printers & Scanners preferences, click Options & Supplies, then click General. Note the driver version.
If you’re using a network printer or a printer attached to your Mac, make sure you have the latest version of the software for the printer. If you still have problems, try different printer software for your printer.Change or update printer software
If you still can’t print, reset the printing system.
    Reset the printing system
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Adjustment brush not working on new Mac with Snow Leopard

Just purchased a new computer a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if something is incompatible or something else. I'm can't remember if the brush ever worked on the new machine. Also updated to Snow leopard 16.2 during this period.
I see the adjustment brush and can change it's size and feathering, flow and density are set at 100%, masking is off, it set down control points, but that's it. It makes no visible changes to the image in any mode. If I put exposure at 4 stops and place it on a mid-tone there is no change to the image, either in Lightroom or upon export.
I've run permissions checks, trashed the preferences and repaired the drive with Diskwarrior all to no avail.
Lightroom 2.5, Power Mac 2.66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB of factory installed memory, Snow Leopard 16.2
Should I try a fresh install of Lightroom??

    Sorry,
My post above should have read Mac Pro. I recently switched and keep getting the names mixed up. Doesn't help that they look the same.

  • "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" - Firefox not working on new Mac

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS 10.8.5. Data was moved from my 2008 MacBook (where Firefox worked perfectly) to this one. Several attempts to uninstall and re-install Firefox get the above error message. A previous thread indicated that someone was able to fix this by creating a new profile. I tried this, using these instructions - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager - but I get an error message when I try to do this in Terminal:
"Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory.
Profile Missing: Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."
The Support on this site only troubleshoots this Profile Manager issue by saying I must have Firefox on in the background to get this error, but I do not.
    Help, please?

Yes, I've tried to create a new profile in Profile Manager, using Terminal, but I get this error message when I do so:

The Support on this site only troubleshoots this Profile Manager issue by saying I must have Firefox on in the background to get this error, but I do not.
So, how do I get around this roadblock?

  • Remote not working with new Mac Book Pro

Had my 2.16 MBP for 2 days and cannot get the remote to work. The IR is not disabled, but I cannot select the UNPAIR option so I am guessing the remote is not paired with the MBP.
I am pressing the Menu and FFD button, but nothing appears to happen.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to try next ?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Hi Mate,
I read this once somewhere hope it helps..
A great way to tell whether your remote control is working or not is to point it at the camera while you have Photo Booth running. The camera somehow picks up the IR signal and translates it into the visible, which I think is hilarious. It works with any IR remote control.
If your remote is eating up batteries that fast, it might have some kind of short circuit. I'd get it replaced.

Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

  • New Mac Mail but not yet in dock

Hi, I wonder if you can help?
I have logged into the new new .Mac Mail and have found it on the whole, a great improvement. I know this must sound a silly question but how I can I get the new version of .Mac Mail in my dock so I can access it quickly? When I click on the 'old' Mac Mail icon (stamp with an eagle on it), it just reverts to the old, 'unimproved' version of .Mac Mail.
Look forward to your replies. Thanks
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You seem to be confusing Mail (the email client application) with .Mac, a suite of services including an email account that can be accessed either with Mail or with a browser (web mail). Mail has not changed. The web mail interface of .Mac has, so to access it, you must use a browser like Safari.
If you want rapid access to the web mail portal from the dock, you can put a web internet location file there that "points" to the portal: once the web page is visible in your browser, drag the icon just to the left of the web address in the browser toolbar (it will start with http) onto the dock, in the area near the trash & any other document files you have there. They will move aside & allow you to drop the icon into the dock.
To access .Mac web mail quickly, just click on this icon. Your browser will launch & take you to the same page.
