Automate reporting with VB or VBA...

I figure I will start a new thread on this ...
What i'm trying to do is grab data from the SAP BEx Analyzer and import the data into another database .. in an automated fashion .. i know VB, VBA, excel, sql, and all that stuff already .. i'm having trouble using the BEx analyzer's programming object model to:
1) connect to our BW server automatically
2) "load" an existing 'workbook', via CODE, that has sales data by region
3) Identify some variables to limit the query (like a list of cat #'s etc)
4) run the query
5) hopefully extract the data into a vba recordset, or even a CSV would do .. in a tabular format
6) populate this data into either SQL Server or just a small Access database table for now.  Once i have a csv or recordset, i can do this easily.
I've seen many posts by Peter Knoer and Peter I greatly appreciate your help thus far .. are there also other forum members who have done someting like the above ?  I see little value in simply dumping data into excel and creating more Excel-based data mazes .. i want to get this data into a central relational data system so i can integrate it with information from other systems ...
My business explorer plug-in is version 3.0B Patch 4 (is this old ??)

    I have a report with passed parameters. actually i only need this reprt to run daily at 4am (we have the scheduler) but process the previous day.
    I dont need a from to really, just the one day. how do i prefill this in a param for date which is a number field here.

    The only way you can pre-fill the prompt with 'previous day' is by writing a SQL query (that returns the last day) and adding to the report using the Add Command option and creating dynamic prompt that points to the field in this command object.
    Make sure you don't join this command object with the existing tables/queries in the report.

    Firefox automatically upgraded me to 7, which is fine, but when the page loaded there was a query at top - something like, "do you want to help mozilla by automatically reporting site load times etc."
    I clicked yes, I meant to click no.
    How do I opt out of this automatic reporting to Mozilla.

    I see how now - Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General.....Uncheck the box 'submit performance data'

  • Offline Reporting with Excel? -- complete Report +hierarchy possible?

    Hi people! 
    I’m new in SAP BW and I have a question regarding BEX. My goal is to get a complete Excel report that contains all the data and has a working hierarchy structure without connection to BW! 
    I generated a report with Query Designer whose data are represented in several hierarchy levels (option in row-header).
    =>date
    ===>area
    =====>customer
    =======>material
    After the execution of the query in BEX Analyzer or in the web, only the highest level (date) is indicated. If I open the next levels, the data are reloaded of the BW each time.
    But I’d like to load the data completely despite hierarchy (Transaction RSRT and then properties “load all data” is selected).
    Ok to get all the data, I could change the option in Query Designer to open all the levels after the first load, but the hierarchy levels should be closed at the first time.
    <u>My Question is:</u>
    Is there a possibility to get all the data offline in Excel with working hierarchy levels? It’s important for me to get a complete report without connection to BW and so the people can navigate also offline, e.g. open a lower hierarchy level with all the data.
    After saving my report as *.xls-file, the report contains only the part of the shown results and the hierarchy symbols have no function.
    I don’t need any symbols in offline report. I think, the excel function “group by” would enough for my requirements. But I don’t know how can I use this function with my data after running the query.
    In SAP R/3 the same is possible automatically, when a report will be generate.
    I have tried to find responses here in forum. But the search is unfortunately a little complicated and the results were not satisfactory.
    - Why I can’t get a list of the main-topic’s?
    - How can I get satisfactory results for multiple words?
    OK, I have read something about OLE and BSP, but I hope to find an easier solution without programming.
    Maybe the tool XL Reporter would be a solution, but we have no Business One licence. Unfortunately, current links for download a free version (I don’t know if its free), which I found here in the forum are not working for me. What’s wrong with XL Reporter?

    Thanks for your trouble and sorry for the late answer, but unfortunately I had to do a lot.
    I think, to describe my idea is not so easy with my English. But maybe you can understand it.
    First I should say, the web report and the offline Excel report are two different things now. I don't save the webreport to excel.
    The web report gets a hierachy and other formatings and with access to BW the user can use the report just as one likes.
    My idea for the offline Excel report is to save the complete data without hierarchy or other formattings. So every characteristic and every key figure is in a separate column and all rows contains data.

    As far as I know, you can select the data in Excelsheet with normal SQL commands. If the corresponding data are selected, I try to use the group by function in vba code.
    So first I select the materials from the first customer. If I found the next customer I want to group all materials for the previous customer.
    The Result should look so: (+ -> to open the materials)

    When I save a report either in Crystal Reports 11 (File save as, Enterprise u2013 Central Management Server) or Central Manager Console, Objects New Object I get an error.
    On looking at the database all reports I am adding or saving are automatically taking the wrong server details, and it is a greyed out field, so I cannot edit it. I presumed it is getting this information from my ODBC settings, but appears to be using the ODBC name/description as the server name (The Database and usernames are correct). This is happening on every report!
    Any ideas what I am doing wrong? How I can save or add new reports with the correct details?
    Not sure if this will help, but the error message is:- Failed to open the connection. D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Data\procSched\wdcsql1.reportjobserver\~tmp117852b044ee296.rpt

    No, Crystal Reports in not installed on the server, and the ODBC settings are not setup on the server. However I did add the correct ODBC settings on the server but this has made no difference.
    So do I need to setup all the ODBC settings in advance of anyone saving a report (I will need to try and find obtain them all)?
    Should the server also have a version of Crystal Reports on it?
    One report is working but it was added by the guy that installed it, and this report is using the same database as all the reports that I have added, and should be the same ODBC settings.
    The server (server username) does not have access to the original location of the reports, so it cannot run the reports - however when I save them to the server via enterprise or the import tool, does a version of the report get saved on the server? If so can you point me in the direction of them, so I can try and run them via the server?

    Hi I have sp13 and SQL Data Rool (that brings up VS Shell 2010).
    I need to build a report where the top part is to have a SP Team site's calendar for up coming week. The 2nd half would be a table with data from that same site.  This report would then need to be embedded in a email that automatically sent to several
    users  on weekly basis.
    I have the table data report created form the SP list.  How can I get the calendar(display as a calendar that I see in the team site) on to the top part of this report?

    Once your SSRS report is developed, you have multiple ways to show it in SharePoint
    - upload to SSRS server and show in sharepoint in a page viewer web part or simply open it as a link in new window

  • Overwrite report with scheduled istance.

    Hi gurus,
    I'd need to schedule a webi report and overwrite the original report with the latest scheduled istance. Searching in forum, I found that this is not possible but it would it possible to set as default the opening of the last successfull istance. But this is still not enought to users requirements, as they sometimes need to save some changes to the report and by default that changes would be not available until next report schedulation (executed monthly).
    I would ask if there is any workaround to accomplish this: to let user open the report always in same way (without to switch between "View" and "View latest istance") and get the last modified/executed between the istance and the report object.
    Or there any way to create a task to automatically perform the "Save as" of an istance?

    Sheduled instance is okay, After successful schedule, it has to get latest data available, correct??
    To get those data, you have make it "Refresh on Open". Which means that get the latest scheduled instance data from datasource.
    In this case you can leave Save As .

  • Crystal Report with standard Input-Parameters in InfoView

    Hi there,
    i've created a crystal report which has non-optional input parameters, e.g, Date from ... Date to ...
    I've managed to fill this parameter with standard parameters if the user does not choose a value. e.g. date is today - 14 days.
    If i start the report in crystal and do not enter a input-parameter, it gets it input parameer automatically, see:
    (if not hasvalue({?PARA_TA_von}) then ({PW_BO_HU_TA.LTAP-WDATU}>=CurrentDate-14) else ({PW_BO_HU_TA.LTAP-WDATU}>={?PARA_TA_von}))
    It works perfectly in crystal. But if i start the Report in Webintelligence Infoview, it doesn't work and i get the message to enter the input-parameters....
    Any idea ?

    Hi Ingo,
    I have tried the sample reports and other crystal reports created with data sources other than SAP which all work fine. The problem happens on all clients and the server when running reports with SAP data source.
    I did find an error in the Tomcat logs.
    [/SAP].[jsp] Thread [http-8080-Processor24];  Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/crystaldecisions/Utilities/LengthLimitedDataInputStream
    I did manage to run one report which had 4 records but the other reports which vary from 432 - 2500 records return the error found in the tomcat logs.
    I will be installing BOE XI 3.1 on my desktop to see if the still issue occurs in this release.

    Im new at Financial Reporting Studio so my question might be something very easy, for beginners.
    Im trying to create a report with two columns where in each column there is the year dimension. In the first column there is the current POV for year, but in the second column I would like to set the prevoius year of the POV automatically, without using a prompt. Is there any function or way to do it?

    Use the relative function.
    The first column will be set to use the User POV.
    For the second column... see the tab named "Functions". Select the function "RelativeMember". For the Member row - select User POV. For the offset enter -1... that will automatically select the prior year.

  • Report with a form not showing all form data?

    Hello,
    I have an application that is using a report with a form, and when I click EDIT on the report column, it takes me to the form page which should be populated with all the data from the previous report row.
    I have not modifed anthing from either page -- but (2) fields in particular (float) that I know have data is not getting populated. They are of the text field type and the row fetch is done automatically. What could be causing this? If I check the table I know there is data for those fields.

    Thanks for the reply. I have the columns set up just as you have suggested. I even created a new report with form wizard and tried to update those two questionable columns.
    If the columns are null, and I add values, they save. But then when I go back and update the record, but different columns, it nulls out the two I am talking about. I am wondering if a trigger is out there someplace that is causing them to get nulled out.

    we have created a lot of reports with RD and have pubished the reports in the portal. Our reports have a lot of selection screens. Now we would like to use information broadcasting. We have already created information broadcasting settings. We have maintained fix variants for our reporting
    For example:
    Variant x1
    Organization: C110
    Scenario:       Actual
    Date:             is filled by the user Exit
    Now we tried to shedule the report. We are using Variant x1 to find the correct selection. The problem is, that we have already saved a fix date in the variant (for example 01.01.2008), because the field is obligatory.
    The User-Exit for the variables works with step 1, but the problem ist, that the variant x1 is overwriting our User-Exit value.
    How can I avoid, that the Variant is not overwriting the User-Exit. Of course for reporting without variant, the manual entry has priority before the user exit.

    in order to update months, firstly create variants for the reports. Then implement the below program modifying the users inputs. For current month or last month you have to hard something like sy-datum(6), an you have to hard code the field name for the month variable that you use in query.
    Below program is for BI 7.0, you can also check the document. It also contains a method for bw 3.5 variants.
    You can schedule this program in a process chain or make variations of this as needed.

    We have came across a requirement where users want to have a date prompt.
    While scheduling the report, by default prompt is to be populated with system date and it (prompt) should also allow us to select a different date.
    This report is used for regular run and also for scheduling.
    We need a single report with single prompt which allows us to run for any random date when prompted and also to be scheduled for the latest date.
    Please give us advice/ suggestion.

    We have tried both the approaches given by you, but it is not working for my requirement.
    Let me explain it with the below scenario.
    scenario:
      we have developed the report by using 2 data providers,
    Dp1: It is a custom Query with date as follows ( it is a Transaction data) which brings the data from 1st day of month(user prompt) to user's prompt date.
    TRANSACTION_DATE BETWEEN last_day(ADD_MoNTHS(@Prompt('As Of Date :','DT','ABC\plant\Transaction Date',Mono,Free,Persistent,,User:0)
    Dp2: It is also Custom Query, but it has only data on month ends.
    DIMV_plant_EOP.TRANS_END_OF_MONTH_DATE = last_day(ADD_MoNTHS(@Prompt('As Of Date :','DT','ABC\plant\EOP plant Attributes\EOP Date',Mono,Free,Persistent,,User:0),-1))
    Report is having 3 prompts, namely
    1) As of date (prompt)
    2) Plant (prompt)
    3) Country (Prompt)
    For example: if my report is ran on 06-june-2014,
    DP1: Brings the data from 1st of June to 6th of june.
    DP2: Brings the Data from Inception to last month(say 30-may-2014) because it has only month end data.
    Upto this it is fine.... but
    My requirement is to schedule the report daily......
    Example: User want to schedule a report today(10-July-2014), tomorrow(11-July-2014) and so on...
    Scheduling should be done daily i.e, it has to fetch the data 10-Jul-2014, 11-july-2014,12-july-2014.... so on. 
    Automatically scheduling has to take the current date.

I am to generate this report in this fashion:

    I understand that time series is an option, and have created the time series (which show up as measures).
    My problem is:
    when creating the report (even as a pivot table) , OBIEE is not allowing me to drag the measure to rows, nor is it allowing me to drag the time series to columns. Also, I need to do conditional formating on some of the columns showing an up arrow for increased vs. prior month and down arrow for decreased vs. prior month.
    Does anyone have a solution for this issue? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

        You've been very helpful, but I guess I'm just not explaining myself that well. The Credit Memo's throw things off because they do not contain a "Paid Date" value. That field in the record is blank. Since it is blank the report query ignores them. Therefore when the report query returns all records that have a "Paid date" range of "x to y" they are never returned. This is a problem whenever a credit memo exists for an invoice because the "invoice total" never changes. So when a customer pays on their account for a particular invoice, they only pay what is due which is the "invoice total" minus any "credit" from the "Credit Memo". So when my A/R person receives payment they are showing the invoice paid in full because MAS automatically includes all invoices and credit memo's. My report does not because there is no data in the "Paid Date" field of the record for Credit Memos.
    I've been doing alot research in trying to resolve this "exception" to my report. I think I may be on to something, but my knowledge of arrays is extremely limited. My resolution involves populating an array with the "invoice numbers" that are returned from the initial query from the supplied date range. Then using the "invoice numbers" from the array have it then populate my details section of the report with all of "invoice records" both the actual invoice record and any "credit memo" records. I can then group the records returned  based upon the "invoice number". then within that grouping I can performing my calculations to show whether or not the invoice has been paid in full. What do you think?  I've been able to populate an array with the invoice numbers based upon my date search range, but I have yet to figure out how to take that information and perform another lookup to pull in the rest of the data I need. Do you have any ideas?

    Hi,
    Usually,any report automatically adjusts its page numbers as per the quantity of data that needs to be displayed.However, if your specific requirement is to show certain data on one page and the remaining on another then you can simply insert a group on a valid field.
    Following is some information from the Crystal Reports Online Help menu:
    New Page After:
    - When the End of Section check box is selected, the program inserts a page break after the section.
    - The Page Header and Page Footer appear on each page.
    - Use New Page After in the Group footer section to print each group on a separate page.
    May be, if this is not what you are looking for then please elaborate on the report design/data
