Automatic update of interactive report definition

Hi,
I have a IR based on a view, that has dynamic number of columns (because of row to column conversion). For example there are records for year 2010 to 2012, but if user inserts record for 2013, a new column will be added to the view.
This column is not shown in IR until I go to report definition, click "Apply" and "OK" for adding new columns.
That's the same for removing columns, means if all records for a year (i.e. 2012) are deleted, I get an error that "2012" cannot be found, because the column is no longer available in view.
Can the report definition update be done automatically. I don't know, when user insert / delete records for year and don't want to update the definition manually every day.

Hi Tyson,
thanks for the answer ...
adding the columns manually and put conditionally display is not the best solution, but for the beginning should work.
Maybe someone else has a better solution.
I thought about collections, but ended at the problem of the column heading naming.
I also thought about using a classic report, but users want to have the features of IR.
so if anybody has another idea, I will be happy to hear ...

  • Refresh Interactive Report Definition via PLSQL

    Hello!
    I am currently working on set of generic database-apex applications.
    That means I have two applications. The first is the admin apex application used to define columns and tables.
    The second application is the one for the end users, where they can view and edit the values.
    My problem now is: Every time the admin adds or removes a column I need to edit the user-apex application, open the region definition of all interactive reports and switch to the report attributes to add/remove the columns of the report.
    I would like to automate this step via plsql. How can I achieve this?
    I guess the first step would be to load a list of all IRs...
    select * from apex_application_page_ir where application_id = 133;
    But I don't know how to reload the columns...
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!
    BR Mike

    Hello Andre, Hello Mimi!
    Thank you for your messages.
    First to your idea Mimi, i think you brought me on the right track. Using your update statement doesn't works for me.
    There are some missing permissions I couldn't grant and in addition I think this would hardly work because apex_application_page_ir is a complex view.
    But I am currently working on a solution using the wwv_flow_worksheet_standard.synch_report_columns function. Code like this:
    DECLARE
    l_flow_id NUMBER (20);
    l_region_id NUMBER (20);
    l_query VARCHAR2 (4000);
    l_result VARCHAR2 (4000);
    BEGIN
    SELECT application_id, region_id, sql_query
    INTO l_flow_id, l_region_id, l_query
    FROM apex_application_page_ir
    WHERE page_id = 9 AND application_id = 133;
    APEX_040100.wwv_flow_worksheet_standard.synch_report_columns (p_flow_id => l_flow_id,
    p_region_id => l_region_id,
    p_query => l_query,
    p_add_new_cols_to_default_rpt => 'Y');
    COMMIT;
    END;
    Unfortunately it doesn't work. When executing the synch_report_columns procedure the following error raises.
    ORA-01003: no statement parsed
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_SQL", line 1685
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SQL", line 629
    ORA-06512: at "APEX_040100.WWV_FLOW_WIZARD_API", line 840
    ORA-06512: at "APEX_040100.WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_STANDARD", line 2735
    ORA-06512: at line 23
    Maybe you or someone else can reproduce the error?
    Therefor you simply need an interactive report on a page, based on a view. Remove some column of the view definition-the IR will display an error like this:
    ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error ORA-00904: "DUV_FOCUS_OFFSET": invalid identifier
    Then execute the code above (use your page and app_id).
    After the execution the IR should work again. In my opinion...
    @Andre: The application I am working on is a critical pice of software used in a highly sophisticated semiconducter fab.
    It is simply impossible to train some of the shift leaders or operators on apex, in fact it is a great thread if someone else can change the application and produces a downtime.
    So for me it is necessary to script everything as far as possible. I finished nearly everything, simply the synch of the report columns is missing...

  • Cannot add popup LOV to existing update form for interactive report

    I have a requirement to add a popup LOV to an existing interactive report with an update form in apex 4.0.2.00.07. I have an insert form as well form the interactive report and was able to add the shared LOV as a popup correctly (so the issue isn't with the popup LOV definition). However, when I add the popup LOV to the update form, the field does not show up when I run the application. There currently isn't any data in that column of the table in the db (I'm adding the field so that users can update the data with the LOV return ID). Is there something I should look for that is keeping the field from showing on the screen that i have to check or uncheck?

    Either write a classic report and implement your own filters, and use those on your update function, or try to retrieve the where clause Apex uses in the IR.

  • Interactive Report's Column Definition - Single Row View Label Bug?

    Hello,
    I have an Interactive report that I've added a Blue background to certain column headings (done by giving Column Heading a background color), this works fine except for the Single Row view - it displays the <....> code I used to get the background color and the column heading. I've tried to change the Single Row View Label by unchecking the 'Use Same Text for Single Row View' on the Column Definition and giving a different label, it just ignores whatever I put in and shows the Column Heading with the < .... > code. Is this a Bug or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,
    I believe that it is a bug.
    If the 'Use Same Text for Single Row View' checkbox is unticked and some text is entered in the 'Single Row View Label' field it gets ignored completely when viewed in the single row view and the existing value in 'Column Heading' is used.
    I wanted to do something similar to you, colouring some of the Interactive Report column headers, and it works fine in the IR report itself but shows the code (span style:color etc) in the single row query. I am using Apex 3.1.1 and the Sand Theme.
    I created a simple application on apex.oracle.com using the red theme and in single row view it still ignores the 'Single Row View Label' but interestingly shows the Column Heading text without the code. This indicates that there could be a work-around by altering the theme.

  • Add a logo to the header definition of an Interactive Report

    Hi Folks.
    Using Apex 3.1 and BI Publisher.
    I am enabling an Interactive Report region to output to PDF & Excel.
    Has anyone managed to add a logo to the Header/footer definition in the Print Attributes section?
    Is it possible? The region definition does not understand simple HTML syntax.
    If anyone would let me know if a) They've done it or b) It ain't possible that would be great.
    Many thanks.
    Dogfighter.

    Just reading through this thread. So perhaps a few comments might be helpful:
    - Interactive report regions do currently not support Report Layouts, you're limited to the built-in generic layout and won't be able to include images
    - You can add a button to your interactive report region page which could initiate the download of a report query, when doing this, you would get the result set of your report query not the interactive report region, so even if the queries are the same, you might have different filters applied to your interactive report
    - You can in fact include static images in your RTF report layouts using the BI Publisher Desktop Word Plug-In and MS Word, so you can have logos etc in your PDF documents. But report layouts currently only work with report queries and classic report regions
    - You can also include dynamic images in your PDF, e.g. based on images stored in a BLOB column, there's currently a character escaping issue causing some trouble with this, which will be fixed in 3.1.1, more on that once 3.1.1 is out (soon)
    - the print server overwrite is designed to point to a different print server than the one configured for your APEX instance, not to point to a specific report. So if your instance has BI Publisher configured, but for a specific report you want to do some special rendering using your own code, you can write e.g. a JSP, Servlet, etc that's doing the rendering, and then point yout report to that URL
    Hope this helps, we do plan to add support for report layout to interactive report regions in the next full release of Application Express

    Marc

  • Display Filter box automatically for Interactive Reports

    Hi,
    I have a page which uses an Interactive Report and I would like to automacially display the filter box on the screen when the page is loaded. Does anyone know how to do that?
    Regards
    Paul

    Hi,
    The IR Search bar is displayed and the user then can click the down arrow next to the green cog which displays opitions such as Filter, Sort, Save Report etc. If they click Filter the Filter box is displayed where the user can then select the column, operator and expression they would like to filter on.
    I want to display this Filter box automatically when the page is loaded. The javascript being called to display that box is 'gReport.controls.filter();'. I must be able to add that on my page somewhere when it is loading. If I do it ONLOAD or in the header or footer i get 'gReport is undefined'. If I create a button and call that javascript it works.
    Regards
    Paul

  • Update interactive report according to the filter of the user

    Hi all
    i'm working with Apex version 4.2/
    i have an interactive rport page as we know it allows the user to make filtering ans sorting
    I want to do as follow :
    i created an interactive report in table
    CREATE TABLE EMP
      EMPNO     NUMBER(4)                           NOT NULL,
      ENAME     VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
      JOB       VARCHAR2(9 BYTE),
      MGR       NUMBER(4),
      HIREDATE  DATE,
      SAL       NUMBER(7,2),
      COMM      NUMBER(7,2),
      DEPTNO    NUMBER(2))
    ALTER TABLE EMP ADD (
      PRIMARY KEY
    (EMPNO)now i've created a new region called update_all_region with two text field items.
    p30_sal
    p30_deptno
    and an update_all button .lets take a look at the scenario :
    lets say that the user doing sort on the IRR lets say give all the employees where the sal >10000.
    lets say that the report return 100 rows to the result , result per page : 50.
    now i'm entering in the update_all_region text field item the values :
    p30_sal : 90000
    p30_deptno : 30 and pressing the update_all button .i want that all the rows which appears in the report (total = 100) will be update.
    i've tried to do this :
    begin
    FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02.COUNT
    LOOP
    update emp
      set salary =  :p30_salary ,
      deptno= :p30_deptno
    where employee_id  = apex_application.g_f02(i);
    END LOOP;
    commit;
    end;problem :
    this update only updates the 50 rows in the current page that i'm in it. and not the all 100 .
    question :
    is this the correct way to do this update , form whatt i've understood , i can take the object filter as a variable , and use it in order to update the table.
    please you advice
    Thanks In Advanced
    Naama

    Either write a classic report and implement your own filters, and use those on your update function, or try to retrieve the where clause Apex uses in the IR.

  • How / can I have jpg logo objects used on reports automatically updated

    How / can I have jpg logo objects used on reports automatically updated after making changes to the repository copy of the jpg logo object in the repository?   The reports are in the enterprise items folder of the repository and the logo.jpg file is in a subfolder of repository items.  I made changes but the changes seem to apply only after I set my options in crystal reports and open the actual rpt file itself.
    Is there a way to have the changes to the logo show / apply in all reports that have the repository item logo inserted into it without having to open every rpt file in the repository?

    Yes, I understand that...  the problem I was having was that check box being unchecked whenever an unrelated change was made to rpt file...  I was able to ensure that it remained checked by doing save as to the rpt file and making sure the "enable repository refresh" box was checked and replacing the file when prompted upons saving the rpt file...

  • Updatable Column in an Interactive Report

    Hellow world.
    I'm having a bad memory day...
    I thought I read "somewhere" that in Apex 4.0 (or is it 4.1?) that I could build an interactive report with updatable columns like a tabular form.
    Did I just dream that or am I just missing the trick on how to do it?
    Using a tabular form is acceptable, but not preferable.
    Thanks,
    Russ

    So, does anyone remember this as a "future feature" somewhere along the line?
    I remember thinking "that will be cool", but now I'm awake and my dream has faded away :-(

  • Updating a new field in an Interactive Report

    I created an Interactive Report based on a table. I recently had to add a new field to the table, I was able to make the IR report show the new field. However, when I go the form page to create a new record I get this error:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 89: PL/SQL: ORA-00904: "BUDGET_MONTHLY_AMOUNT": invalid identifier ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
    If I run the Update process, I do not get any errors but the record does not get updated.
    By looking at the DML process' source, I don't see where (if at all) I need to make changes.
    Has anybody else seen this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Omar.
    At this time you cannot retrospectively add a table based column to an IRR once you have created the IRR.
    You will have to delete the IRR and recreate it i n order for your new column to appear.
    It is for this reason that we typically construct report regions using the 'Classic' report format until the users have confirmed the content is correct. Then we convert it to an IRR.
    Kind regards

  • Saved interactive reports - need a way to migrate to updated application

    APEX version 4.1
    We had an application (APP_ID =20) in operational environment that users had saved many reports.
    Recently we made enhancements to the application and promoted the development version of the application into our operational database. When importing we picked a new APP_ID =21. After several weeks on Operational system users have noticed there saved interactive reports are no longer showing up in pull down list.
    I have seen several posts talking about keeping the application IDs the same ensures the saved reports are preserved. For our situation I am not sure the best route to take to get us back to where users have there reports. Can I export APP_ID =21 on OPS, import this back into a dev environment setting its number back to 20, then export this from Dev and re-import onto OPS using the re-use APP_ID=20 option. Was not sure if this would work since APP_ID =21 on OPS has no saved report now??

  • Can I link from Interactive report Page 1 to Master Detail page 2?

    Hi folks-
    I know how to create a Page as an Interactive Report; it creates 2 pages automatically (primary page with the great interactive bar) and a 2nd page that's a single record.
    I know how to create a Page as Master Detail, whereby I get a tabular list without the super interactive bar, and I can select a record, and get transported to a nice page with 2 regions (master on top, detail on bottom).
    I want to have the First page from the Interactive Report, select the record, and go to the 2nd page of a MasterDetail.
    Do I create the Interactive Report, and customize the 2nd page, to add a region?
    Or, do I create both page types, and redirect from the 1st page of the Interactive Report to the DML Form from the MD report? I tried that, re-assigning the link from the Interactive Report to be a Link to Custom Target, and specify the page # of the Master-Detail page. And it is taking me to the right page, but the data from the selected row is not coming with me, and the detail in the bottom region is not appearing at all.
    Can someone please give me a nudge as to the sequence I should be doing?
    (As you can tell, I'm new to Apex.... I'm trying to use it to create a prototype or proof-of-concept for a database driven web application)
    Thank you
    Marion

    Yes, I tried that after I wrote to you - and it's fine, but not what I'm after; it's only based on 1 table and I'm working with 2 tables.
    Perhaps I can explain in better.
    I want one page as an interactive tabular report (of the master records)
    I want to select a row, and transfer to a page that has the corresponding row on top (as a form), and a tabular region below of records from a related detail table.
    ie, I want page 1 from the Interactive Report, and page 2 of the Master Detail report.
    OK - I just took the form page, and added a region below in a tabular report. And I'm getting the data, but I'm getting all the records (not just the ones associated with the single record on top. I figure I need to edit the Region Definition->Source (to specify that the id numbers need to match), but the code is not editable.....
    So I am in Structured Query Attributes, and I've Modified the Join Conditions - but I still get all the detail records in the bottom region. I''m trying to add in the ( + ) qualifier, but it doesn't affect anything...
    I'm soo close to what i'm trying to do!
    Thank you for your continued patience and assistance
    Marion
