Automatically connecting NAS drives at Start Up

I am hoping this is a really easy thing to do... I have a couple of NAS drives on my network and I want to have Leopard automatically map to them everytime I log onto my computer (at start up).... What is the easiest way to do this?

Add them to the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • Automatically connect mounted drive as guest

I have mounted my NAS network drive to my Mac but I don't have a registered user account. I'm just a guest so each time I reboot a window for each mounted drive pops up asking for a password. Any way I can tell it to automatically connect as guest?

    Hi Jolly Giant
Ever since the Airport Extreme 802.11n exists i used wireless HD storage, and lately used it as Time Machine backup. Never had (fingers crossed) any issues, the Airport Setup is quite handy to setup access and password for USB connected HD on the AP Extreme.

  • Connect nas drive to mac

We have a CoolMax NAS drive CN-330; all the PC's on the network can access it just fine.
However we have a MAC, which opens up the shares just fine... however trying to save anything on the NAS from MAC gives the error "action could not be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges" we have tried using protocols including SMB; however it still gives the same error message.
    Please advice.

You may be connected as guest. To write files, you probably will need to be a registered user and log in.
Try connecting in the usual way, then open a Finder window and click on the mounted drive in the Finder window sidebar. It will open a window showing the shared device, with a header inside the window saying connected as :<username> or <guest>. There are buttons there to connect as a specific user, or disconnect and re-connect as a specific user.
Some other articles remind us that the firewalls beteen computers can cause problems if all the correct ports are not opened. If you are using DHCP on a Router you control, you do not need the firewalls on individual computers.

  • Read/Write rights connecting NAS drive via USB

I made it. The AEBS is working with my external iomega hard drive, different users and an iTunes library with 130GB data. All files are shown correctly and I am having full access. Just one thing, which I can't handle actually: I connected the formatted harddrive to the AEBS, configured the users. I copied all files into the shared- and some into the user folder. When connecting the usb drive directly with the mac via usb, I don't have access to the folders (permission denied). Since I can't change the right when it's connected to the AEBS, how can I get access to my files with a direct connection? Just worried, in case that the AEBS makes problems, so that I can still access my files when connecting the hard drive directly to my mac.
    Thanks for advice!

I haven't dealt with this yet, but my guess is you might have to plug the drive back into the AEB and remove the Users and Passwords. Once you plug that drive into the AEB and setup security on it, that information, I would assume is used like File Vault. It's setup on the actual drive, not the AEB.
    Hope that helps,
    AL

  • Connect USB drive automatically at computer starts

    Hi Apple fans
I recently upgraded my home network with a 1TB 2.5' external hard drive plugged into my Airport Extreme, which we use at home to store files and more importantly as Time Machine HD for backup.
the trick is when a computer starts (both a iMac G5 and a Macbook are on the network), I need to manually connect to the hard drive for the OS to mount/recognize it and Time Machine to be able to run backups.
Is there a command or even a script which will execute this automatically so when one computer starts the HD on the Airport USB mount automatically in Finder? thanks for any suggestions

  • Windows 8 Explorer cannot see NAS drive on WiFi connected laptop

I have several devices on my home network. Windows XP PC's, Windows 7 PC's, Android tablets, and 2 Windows 8 laptops.  All the devices can see the harddrive attached to my WiFi router except for one of the Windows 8 laptops and I can't seem to figure
    out a solution.
That laptop, compared to all the other devices, connects by a Wireless G adapter vs. Wirless N for everything else, but I don't think that's the problem.
It CAN access the NAS drive through Windows Media Player, however, only media in that case and not documents.
Why can it see the drive through WMP but not Explorer???  ...and what's the fix?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The laptop has a Windows 8 32-bit upgrade installed.
Windows Explorer shows the Media access for the drive, but not the drive itself.

For a regedit newbie, can you please provide step-by-step details how to: "create a new DWORD entry with the name EnableLinkedConnections and value 1". Is this a new line to be
    inserted? Thanks.
Below is my situation. I posted an earlier version of this query on Microsoft Community and was advised to move to here on Technet.
    I am having trouble mapping
and connecting shared drives on my NAS using WiFi. I have three new Acer i5-4th Gen laptops running Windows 8 with Intel 7260-N WiFi cards and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 loaded. My NAS is also new. It is a Zyxel NSA325, replacing a
WD My Book World Edition. The hard drives from two such WD boxes went into the Zyxel. So I do not have another NAS on hand to test. My router is unchanged. It is a Netgear WNDR3700v1 pre-MIMO dual-band N-router.
One of the new Acers is a V7-482PG-6662. The other two laptops are M5-583P-6428 machines. The Acer V7 never had a problem with connections – neither via Ethernet nor via WiFi. Both
M5’s had troubles at first via WiFi. Then I got one to work. But the second Acer M5 stubbornly only connects reliably via Ethernet; the NAS only shows reliably under Network on File Manager when using Ethernet. Maybe one in five times that I reboot with WiFi,
can I see the NAS under Network on File Manager.
I also have an old Dell Win-7 Ultimate desktop. It has no problems connecting via shared drives to the NAS via WiFi. I also have an old WD TV-Live Plus attached via Ethernet that accesses
the NAS via Media Server, not via Network Shares. All PCs plus a Samsung Android Tablet can see / access the NAS reliably as a media server over WiFi.
I went through many, many recommendations from the internet, trying to fix the WiFi problem for the Acer M5s. For example:
Turn on various or all Advanced Network Sharing options, e.g., Discovery and File Sharing
Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is on
Set up and reset Windows Credentials for users
Enter net config server /autodisconnect:-1 as admin
Make sure that Network List Service is started on automatic (as well as not on)
Tried using Net Use commands to map the drive, but got error message 53s
    Updated WiFi card drivers
Multiple cycles of closing down all network advanced sharing settings, then uninstalling and reinstalling network adapters via device manager, then opening up all network advanced sharing settings (as described
in the technet item: fix-for-cannot-access-nas-drives-sharefolder-is-not-accessible-or-error-code-0x80070035 ).
Various cycles and sequences of rebooting and leaving machines on with the hope that they would connect.
I have not tried any of the advice about reg editing or setting different MTU values. Most of such advice online dates from 2009. And it was not needed to get the one Acer M5 machine
    working.
After cycling through the items above, the one Acer M5 started listing the NAS occasionally under Network in File Manager. At first this only happened in like 1 in 20 reboots. But
I started getting luckier. And after one round of closing down shares and reinstalling adapters, it started to work reliably. And has kept working ever since.
I now have the second Acer M5 connecting via WiFi in about one in five reboots. But this is not satisfactory. Normally, the NAS only shows under Network on File Manger, and only allows
drives to be mapped, when the laptop is connected via Ethernet. I tried comparing adapter settings between when using Ethernet and using WiFi (for example, that the same Microsoft LLDP protocols are ticked). I also put both Acer M5s side by side to compare
settings. I also tried repairing Windows 8 and reloading all Windows updates. But I have not thus far gone all the way back to a complete Windows 8 restore to factory conditions.
    Advice, help please, thanks.

  • ML won't connect to NAS drive for Time Machine Backup

I've just upgraded  from Lion to Mountain Lion.
I'm using an Iomega Cloud Edition Home NAS drive. This worked 'fine' under Lion (occasional need to redo backup after failed verify).
    Now:
    - Automatic backups fail - TM can't find the drive over the network (wired or wireless)
    - I can use Finder to see files on the drive, connect to the TM share, look into the Sparsebundle etc. Copy/Delete/Move files. In short - the NAS shares are fully accessible EXCEPT to TM
    - If I force a backup from the menu bar (back up now) it fails with the same error message.
    - If, however, I open Time Machine Preferences, and alt-click/right-click on the disc icon and then choose 'back up now', the back up will start and progress nicely.
In short, automatic back ups don't work, forcing from the menu bar doesn't work, but I can manually back up if I right-click on the disc icon in Time Machine Preferences.
At this point then, TM is failing me as a useful back up option. It's supposed to be 'set up and forget about it' security. It isn't under ML.
And this problem only started after the ML upgrade.
    Thoughts?
Please help - this is now taking up too much time!

Thanks Pondini for your responses - perhaps you could add this tip to your website?
Since I don't have a NAS, I've been reluctant to post any detail about them.
The closest I got was #C16 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting, because almost all NASs weren't compatible with Lion, but is now mostly out of date.
Without the proper qualifications (what TM message, if any, folks are getting; or what they may see in the NAS's interface), it might steer folks in the wrong direction, or provide no help at all.  For example, that link says it happens when TM has been set up via Lifeline 3.2.6 or below.  I have no idea what that is, or what Iomega NAS models this current problem applies to, etc.
That's why I usually just recommend checking with the maker.
I've thought about a general page, something like "problems with Time Machine and NASs" but I really don't think I could include enough info to be useful.
    But I'm open to suggestions.

  • Finder not connecting to NAS drive

    Hi all,
I've recently been having trouble connecting to my NAS drive. The drive shows up in the Finder sidebar, but when I try to connect, Finder just hangs and nothing happens.
I've attempted connecting via the CMD+K > enter IP address route, but same thing happens - it wont mount it. After rebooting the NAS, Finder can then connect, but attempting to connect not having rebooted the drive never works.
This has only recently become a problem, and there are only two things that spring to mind that could be the issue:
    a) the drive is pretty much full. This isn't a problem per se, as I am now using a new backup drive, and just using this one as an archive which I use to retrieve old files from. Could the fact that it is full be causing a problem?
    b) it was previously connected to a Netgear ProSafe 16 Gigabit Switch, but is now at the end of a chain of routers (the actual chain being NAS - Airport Extreme in bridge mode - Mac Mini Server running as DHCP server, with two other routers acting as wireless points on the network - Netgear WNR2000N and another Airport Extreme in bridge mode).
I have given the drive a static IP in the DHCP setup on snow leopard server, and this was all working fine before. It seems to be recently (since I moved it from the Netgear Switch to the new location) that it started playing up (although I can't be sure it started at the same time that I moved it, only that it started after I moved it...)
Like I said, it can be seen in Finder, but just hangs when attempting to connect (doesn't actually freeze Finder, just doesn't connect to drive).
Any advice? The NAS is a LinkStation Buffalo 6TB drive, working in RAID 1, and I have its IP Address properties set to automatically via DHCP (would setting this to disable and manually putting in the IP address potentially solve it?)
    Thanks for any advice.
    Steve

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • IMac keeps trying to connect to a NAS drive that I have turned off.

I couldn't find any other thread on this so:
I have a NAS drive (Buffalo Linkstation) on my network at home. I only use it for photos and music storage so turn it off when not in use (the auto setting doesn't work so this is the only option).
Only problem is when it's off my Mac keeps telling me "there's a problem connecting to the server......". Every time I hit OK, it reappears 15-20 seconds later.
As you can imagine it gets pretty annoying. I cannot beleive there isn't an 'ignore' or 'dont show again' setting for option this.
Anyone know how to disable it? I don't really want to remove the drive from my shared network, I just want to get rid of the message popping up all the time.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I have other Volumes set to be Mounted when the iMac is started listed in System Preferences> Users and Groups > Login item for My account
Obviously they can be in /Library/StartupItems for everyone to see.
I also have an app called muCommander that is likely to do it if I used the Mac User Account > Login items or the Start Up items method. (I do have a NAS drive here as well).

I recently bought the Time Capsule to serve as my backup and my wireless router.  Both of my Macs are now using it via Time Machine.  I now want to move my large ITunes and IPhoto databases from an external hard drive on one Mac to a network drive where I can stream/view from either Mac.  What is the best way to do this?
    1.  Buy a NAS drive with just ethernet and connect to one of the three port on the Time Capsule?  If so, what is the best drive to buy?

i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. i'm very happy with performance.
have a look at this discussion.
as for iPhoto, all i have is a link to a recent discuss over atthe Apple TV forum but don't know how relevant it is: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15366429#15366429
    2.  Use a USB drive and attack to the USP port on the Time Capsule?  If so, will any USB drive work?
as long as the drive is properly formatted, yes. you may need to use a powered USB hub. the USB connection may or may not be a bottleneck as compared to full gigabit speed of the NAS.

  • NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs

    Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
    Help! and Thanks!

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

  • Automatically open USB Drive (connected to Airport Extreme) in Finder

I have a 1TB USB drive connected to my Airport Extreme (version 7.6.3).
File sharing is enabled in the Airport-configuration program.
But I liked to have this USB drive displayed (automatically) on the desktop. Same as is happening with the harddisk.
So I don't have to manually open the networ, Airport Extreme station and the USB drive (see picture below).
Does anyone have a suggestion ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Bob.
I noticed that the USB drive is displayed with a different icon. Below the icon if I use the automatic connection as you have suggested.
And if I connect it manually I get the belowlisted icon.
What is the difference between those ?
And is there a difference in performance or capabilities ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How can I automatically make a copy of one nas drive to another?

I Have a collection of movies on one WD MyCloud drive. I purchased another for the purpose of backing it up. I am hoping that I can set some backup program that will automatically do this each time I Add or move a file. I downloaded WD smartware which looked like it might be my answer, but the various options do not seem to fit my basic need. I have discovered that I cannot reliably select a group of files which contain folders of files and try to copy them to the second drive. The problem seems to come from copying the folder and then trying to copy the folder again when it halts saying that the file already exists.

I use both Prosoft Engineering's Data Backup & Bombich's Carbon Copy Cloner as tools to back up my network NAS drive to another NAS. Either of these may work for you.

I have a La Cie NAS drive connected via ethernet to my Speedtouch modem. The modem is connected by ethernet to Airport Extreme BS. There are 3 desktops and two laptops on the network. Does it make any difference if I were to connect the network drive to the WAN port of the Airport BS?

Not positive, but don't think the WAN port will work... isn't that where your Modem is plugged into?
