Auzentech X-Fi Forte issues
I want to start by saying that I am just about to drop Creative products entirely due to the poor driver support (excepting Daniel K) and just the multitude of hassles I've had with them. These Auzen drivers haven't been updated since July 2009, BEFORE Windows 7 was officially released.
First, the X-Fi Forte manual shows the front panel connector to be towards the bottom of the set of pins (http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/auzentech_x-fi_forte_review/images/02.jpg) but my connector for front panel does not fit down there. It does fit up top, and it has actually worked up there in the past. Is this ok?
Second, lately I've been having this problem in Windows 7 where when I use the control panel to open 'manage audio devices', it does not open for a good 5 minutes. I click on it and absolutely nothing happens, and then eventually the sound control panel pops up. Unsure if related.
Third, the drivers seem to have lost the ability to auto-switch between headphones and speakers, which wasn't a big deal because I could do it manually via the console... but that does the same stupid lag that the 'manage audio devices' button does. If I click on it now, it won't actually open for ~ 5 minutes. Don't go saying it's my hardware either, it's not (Unless you mean it's the sound card).
Fourth, occasionally my speakers/headphones will start emitting a terrible, terrible static noise that can only be remedied by either switching the mode in the console back and forth (which I've established takes at least 0 minutes) or restarting.
There are more, but that's all I can think of right now. Any ideas anyone?
I'm wondering if it has something to do with that registration app that runs on initial login after the driver is installed. I don't think that is running on login like it should after the first reboot.
Does anyone know how that launches? CTRegSvr.exe I think is what it is.
Hopefully Daniel_k or someone else can figure out why this doesn't work.

I have a Auzentech X-Fi Forte & I'm facing a weird problem.
Whenever I play something using the coaxial output via DDL or DTS every now & then the sound blanks out for few seconds while the video/song continues progressing.
It doesn't happen when using the analog outputs.
How can I fix this?I'm suffering just as much as you and everyone else. I tried older drivers and they don't work on Windows 7 anyway. I am currently using this weird beta driver that everyone swears by. It actually gets rid of the distortion, but now two of my speakers don't make a sound (I have 5. speakers). So this beta driver obviously doesnt work well. Plus on Battlefield 242, the X-FI option can't detect my card!? What a joke!? I just emailed Creative and I'm sure tomorrow they'll give me some bogus response that they are "currently working on the issue."? I cannot believe that the biggest sound card company in the world doesn't have drivers that work properly on windows 7. It appears that everyone I know who is using an Intel chipset?board does not have this issue. It's pretty much all of us who are using boards that have the Nforce chipset. Here's some food for thought... my best friend is using an Nforce chipset board and he recently bought an X-FI Xtreme Audio card. It works beautifully in Windows 7.
Well, it turns out that the X-FI Xtreme Audio card usese a totally different Windows 7 driver than the Titanium, Platnium, Xtreme Music, and Xtreme Gamer editions. So if Creative can make a very good driver for the Xtreme Audio edition, why can't they do the same for the other ones?
!!! I was almost ready to can my Xtreme Gamer card and get an Xtreme Audio card. But I don't wanna give another dime to creative anyway. -
[SOLVED] Dual monitors and raid - linux newb
Hi
I'm raginaot and I'll probably be asking a lot of dumb questions here in the near future
I just decided to say goodbye to windows for a while. Been wasting too much time gaming and it was either - switch to linux or - sell my computer and move to the desert. I'm gonna try the former first and see how it goes.
I managed to install arch and get gnome up and running with the help of the most awesome linux install guide I have ever seen and I installed the xf86-video-ati driver package but I'm having trouble getting it to recognise my 2 monitors.
I'll list my hardware specs before I go any further:
CPU: i7 920
RAM: 12GB (3x4) Mushkin Silverline 1333MHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R (rev 1.6)
GPU: ATI HD5870 1GB
Souncard: Auzentech X-fi forte
Monitors: Samsung 2693HM and Samsung 226BW
now the monitors seem to be stuck in mirrored mode, both showing the same image at 1280*1024 resolution
when I try to set them both to on and their native resolutions (1920*1200 and 1680*1050) in the display settings I get a message that says:
"the selected configuration for displays could not be applied
required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(3600, 1200), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1920, 1920"
But when I unplug the 22" display, I can set the 26" to native res just fine and vice versa.
Now to the second issue...
I have 2 1TB drives in raid0, but in fdisk -l they appear as 2 seperate 1TB drives instead of 1 big 2TB like they're supposed to (see output below).
I guess I have to mount them in some special way, but I have no idea how. The raid worked right away in linux mint.

Glad you were able to figure out the RAID part - I can't really help you with that. As far as the dual monitor setup, I would suspect that you will need to do some stuff with the xorg config to get it working. I would say that xorg.log would be the first thing to look at - to see what is limiting the modes available to X. Maybe post the xorg.log and your x configuration
My post in this thread might give a bit of background on how X comes up with what resolutions it lets you choose.

Sound Blaster Sound Cards and Gigaworks S750
I recently purchased a Sound Blaster Zx sound card and found that it only supports up to 5.1 speaker configurations. That means I don't have sound from my side speakers in my Gigaworks S750 7.1 system. Needless to say I am very disappointed with Creative Labs engineers wondering why 7.1 support has been dropped from their very own speaker systems. I am posting hoping some more knowledgeable forum members can offer a better solution to my dilemma.
I could go back to my X-Fi Extreme Music card which has all of the 3.5 mm minijack speaker connectors but I would rather not do this as support for this card has been dropped and I am doubtful that there will be many more driver and/or software updates available. I would also rather not buy a new speaker system b/c I am happy with the Gigaworks and don't really want to replace it.
I looked going back to an older Titanium HD soundcard but it only has RCA connectors on the back of the soundcard and the Gigaworks connectors are 3.5 mm minijacks. The Gigaworks has no optical or HDMI connectors anywhere. I wonder....can I connect the 3.5 mm jacks from the Gigaworks to the RCA or optical ports on the ZX or Titanium HD with an adapter or converter? Does Creative sell new cables or adaptors, or any special audio shop for that matter, that would make the connections work?
Can anyone help please?
Thanks! As I said, that upmix is only a workaround, you still have just 5.1 discrete channels, just that the rear and sidespeakers emit the same sound.
I don't have any experience with Asus or Auzentech. Both have their issues as well but they are both very good and only the very best creative cards (X-Fi Titanium HD, ZxR and perhaps X-Fi Elite Pro) can compete.
On the other side Asus has most of their cards in production for half a decade without alteration and doesn't update their drivers very often as well. Their don't be as many issues as with creative cards, but you will find people having problems as well, it's not like they work flawlessly for everyone.
Same for Auzentech, only they didn't produce as highend cards as Asus and some Creatives (Titanium HD and ZxR only) plus while their dirver support seems to be good, their other support is nonexistant, especially since they seem to have stopped producing soundcards. Additionaly I have heard of the X-Fi Forte mysteriously dying on many people after some years.
The differences aren't great, though, and in my opinion you won't find a soundcard combining everything to perfection. The ZxR nearly does, only lacking 7.1 output.
The Asus Xonar STX is very similar, but can only ouput analoge stereo, while the PCI-based ST can output the very best analoge 7.1 available with a additional daughtercard (but who wants a PCI card nowadays?).
The best 7.1 cards from Asus, D2 and D2X, lack a Headphone-Amp, while the Xonar Xense and Phoebus, being nearly identical to each other, have one but use a slightly lesser DAC for all channels apart from Stereo, similar to the Auzentech X-Fi Forte and Bravura.
The D1 and DX finally are only slightly better than the X-Fi Music and Titanium, because they use a slightly better DAC for Stereo, which is used on Audigy 4 Pro and X-Fi Elite Pro for all channels and for stereo on the soundblaster Z and Zx.
Everything below (Xonar DG(X) and DS(X)) ist far inferior, though the DG(X) sports a cheap headphone-amp even the D2X lacks.
So, if you only want 7.1 as good as possible, the Xonar D2X is the best solution, followed by the D2, Auzentech X-Fi Prelude and Creative X-Fi Elite Pro.
But, if you want to drive very good headphones, too, the Xonar Xense, Phoebus and Auzentech X-Fi Forte will be the better solution.
None of them will be as good as the ZxR, if you can live with discrete 5.1 only.
The minijack cables aren't an option. Just when you connect your Gigaworks to any Asus, Auzentech, Creative X-Fi Titanium card or most onboard codecs you have to use 4 stereo minijack cables, while for any Creative 6.1/7.1 card from Audigy 2 to X-Fi PCI-series you have to use a special 4 stereo to 3 4-pin minijack cable, which probably came with your gigawarks set.
If you want to use any "normal" sound card you don't need any special cable, it's just 4x any normal stereo minijack cable. -

Important :
Before installing, remove all traces of any previous x-fi drivers and all x-fi driver by removing the driver within "Device Manager". To clean up any excess files left on your system, you should use a 3rd party program to do this job (unless you've a good understanding of the registry) A recommended program to do this is Driver Sweeper - which is freeware, and available from http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ or paid version at hardwareheaven.com driver cleaner.net
To install the software driver :
Providing you've followed the steps above, restart your computer and run Setup.exe. Follow through the prompts until the installation has completed.
Please used register cleaner like tune up Advanced SystemCare iobit.com or crapcleaner
What is Pax?
Formally known as Youpax, Pax was founded by Robert McClelland 5 years ago, who is continuing to provide an alternati've tweaked driver to the Official driver released by Creative.
Why should I install this Pax alternati've?
Pax is aimed at improving sound quality and to give a more deeper bass sound, while retaining the clarity of the overall output audio. Most users continue to use Pax drivers once moving over and never look back!

[Mod] X-Fi Titanium Series Driver
I just created a custom X-Fi Titanium Driver. It is a mix of the Titanium 2_7_0007 WHQL and 2_7_0008 beta driver plus the latest Auzentech X-Fi Forte Driver (.2 dated 07/03/200). It includes the newest OpenAL (2..0.0) and updated AudioCS?(from LB_2_6_0004 oem driver; newest I could find 8. Nov. 2009)).
http://rapidshare.com/files/404872642/XFi_TI_ModDriverV2a.exe
Installation:
Unzip and run the setup.exe. Chosse Uninstall and delete shared files. Reboot. After reboot run the setup.exe again and select install + overwrite shared files. after this reboot again. done.ill install it saterday when I got some free time.
could you update it to use the final xfi 2_7_0008 driver
and could you tell us what improvements we can expect + some more detailed information like that the components from 07 are newer than 08 in some parts and thats why you used it and what did you edit yourself
like why did you mod it whats wrong with the default 2_7_0008
also does openal work in 64 bit with this (I heard daniel K say its not working by default or something)
also offtopic whats the diference with daniel K and official creative drivers and this what would be best
also what is new in openal 2..0.0
update: I installed your driver and it seems to work great, sound quality seems to have improved slightly no strange bugs or hickups everything is smooth now also changing modes and gaming works fine.
didn't got any benchmarks thought and im not sure if sound quality actually changed but it seems better. -

Since the controller process is of Message Duration, it 'restarted' automatically after the crash. With this new start, all the processor tasks were started again and therefore were executed twice.
Now we are looking for a way to terminate the processors automatically if the controller crashes. Is there a way to do this in Forte or do we have to code this explicitly ?
If not, we can stop start of a processor if it is already executing. But then, how do we get a notification of completion of a previous execution ?
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Please let me know if the problem description is not clear.
Thanks and regards.
Deepak"Since the controller process is of Message Duration, it 'restarted' automatically after the crash" --NO, the controller was re-started automatically because Forte allways tries to re-execute the method of a SO marked to have Dialog Duration=Message. Apart of that, the SO will be re-started ONLY if the Forte Autostart feature has been enbled in your Forte Environment, otherwise it won't re-start.
Your problem is more an architectural issue than a Forte one. The children tasks can not notify their parent about a problem (ussually by reporting an exception event) because they were started in a different partition and Forte have partition boundaries when handling the multi-threading for tasks executed in cascade. (Task1-->Task2-->Task3).
Even if your children tasks can report an exception event to the parent SO, there is still a timming issue: While re-starting the controller a children task can report an exception event, but it wont be listened since the controller is still re-starting.
Hope this helps.. -
What driver can i use for Auzentech forte 7.1
- Hello together!
My Question is, I have the Auzentech Forte 7. Soundcard, and the Orginal Driver for the Card, does not currectly install on my Pc, and the Support Pack 2.0 from Daniel does not work currectly. The Volpanel and the Console will not open. Can i also install SB-X-Fi Series AuzenWDM Pack .0, or is these driver only for Creative cards?
P.S: Sorry for my bad english, but I hope your german is better!Well, it's been more than three weeks now with 0 replies for assistance. Guess my next move would have to be to try to call Canon by phone and see if they're willing to help sort this out. Some forums are very responsive. Here, not so much...

How can this be fixed ?We supply STLport configured for use with our compilers with C++ 5.4 (Sun ONE Studio 7) and 5.5 (Sun ONE Studion 8 Compiler Collection). We don't support STLport for earlier compilers, and C++ 5.2 is known to have problems with STLport. I suggest upgrading to a newer compiler.

Hi James,
Could you give me a call, I am at my desk.
I had meetings all day and couldn't respond to your calls earlier.

Subject: Re: Case 59063: performance issues w/ C TLIB and Forte 3M
Hello,
I just want to reiterate that we are very committed to working on
this issue, and that our goal is to find out the root of the problem. But
first I'd like to narrow down the avenues by process of elimination.
Open Cursor is something that is commonly used in today's RDBMS. I
know that you must test your query in ISQL using some kind of execute
immediate, but Sybase should be able to handle an open cursor. I was
wondering if your Sybase expert commented on the fact that the server is
not responding to commonly used command like 'open cursor'. According to
our developer, we are merely following the API from Sybase, and open cursor
is not something that particularly slows down a query for several minutes
(except maybe the very first time). The logs show that Forte is waiting for
a status from the DB server. Actually, using prepared statements and open
cursor ends up being more efficient in the long run.
Some questions:
1) Have you tried to do a prepared statement with open cursor in your ISQL
session? If so, did it have the same slowness?
2) How big is the table you are querying? How many rows are there? How many
are returned?
3) When there is a hang in Forte, is there disk-spinning or CPU usage in
the database server side? On the Forte side? Absolutely no activity at all?
We actually have a Sybase set-up here, and if you wish, we could test out
your database and Forte PEX here. Since your queries seems to be running
off of only one table, this might be the best option, as we could look at
everything here, in house. To do this:
a) BCP out the data into a flat file. (character format to make it portable)
b) we need a script to create the table and indexes.
c) the Forte PEX file of the app to test this out.
d) the SQL staement that you issue in ISQL for comparison.
If the situation warrants, we can give a concrete example of
possible errors/bugs to a developer. Dial-in is still an option, but to be
able to look at the TOOL code, database setup, etc. without the limitations
of dial-up may be faster and more efficient. Please let me know if you can
provide this, as well as the answers to the above questions, or if you have
any questions.

w/ CTLIB and Forte 3M
We did that trick already.
When it is hanging, I can see what is doing.
It is doing OPEN CURSOR. But not clear the exact statement of the cursor
it is trying to open.
When we run the query directly to Sybase, not using Forte, it is clearly
not opening any cursor.
And running it directly to Sybase many times, the response is always
consistently fast.
It is just when the query runs from Forte to Sybase, it opens a cursor.
But again, in the Forte code, Alex is not using any cursor.
In trying to capture the query,we even tried to audit any statementcoming
to Sybase. Same thing, just open cursor. No cursor declaration anywhere.==============================================

Forte Transaction Management & 2PC
Forte Transaction Management & 2PC
The main purpose of 2PC in a distributed transaction manager is
to enable recovery from a failure that occurs during the window
of transaction commit processing. The Forte transaction manager was built
with this in mind but only with respect to the "volatile" (or "in memory")
objects that Forte manages. What this implies is that because Forte stores
objects in memory and not persistently on disk, the requirement of recovery
for these objects is significantly reduced (if not eliminated all together).
Forte follows a distributed 2PC model in that tasks and messages carry
along with them transaction identification and, during commit processing,
every distributed participant is polled for its availability to commit
the transaction. Applications saving persistent data to disk during a
distributed Forte transaction need to concern themselves with the potential
for failure during the commit processing window. Forte's prepare phase polls
each site (confirming a communications link with each distributed participant)
but no prepare request goes to the database primarily because (in release 1 and
2 of forte) no database supported a general distributed two-phase commit
(one could take issue with that in the case of Sybase, but rather than debate
this point, suffice it to say that the general direction in the industry for
support of this functionality was through TP monitors -- more on that later).
Once all sites are ready to commit Forte expects that the commit will
complete successfully. If at this moment, for example, a participating
Sybase server terminates (with data not yet committed) while a participating
Oracle server has already committed its unit of work, then the outcome of
the distributed transaction is inconsistent - if no one has yet committed
Forte will still abort the transaction. This "window of inconsistency"
is documented in the Forte TOOL manual.
Mission critical applications that require distributed transactions can
address this window of inconsistency in a number of ways:
* Utilize a TP monitor such as Encina (see below)
* Log distributed updates in an auxiliary database table (much like a
distributed transaction monitor's transaction-state log). This approach has
been the traditional banking application solution prior to the commercial
availability of products like Encina, Tuxedo, TopEnd, etc.
This solution is somewhat complex and is usually not generic enough
so as not to have to change code every time a new table or database
site is introduced into the application's data model.
* Rearrange the data model in order to eliminate the need for distributed
transactions. This is usually only a temporary solution (with smaller
numbers of active clients) and cannot be applied to complex legacy systems.
With the advent of the X/Open distributed transaction architecture (the
XA Interface) more database vendors have found that by complying with the
XA interface they can plug their database-specific implementation of
transaction into a globally managed transaction, with commit and abort
processing being conducted by a central coordinator. Of course, the
overall transaction manager coordinating the global transaction must
itself, persistently record the state of the different distributed
branches participating in the transaction. A significant portion of
the functionality provided by products such as Encina, Tuxedo, TopEnd and
OpenTP1 is to provide exactly this global transaction management.
Rather than extend the Forte distributed transaction manager with the
functionality necessary to manage and recover distributed transactions
that modify data on disk, Forte has chosen to integrate with the emerging
set of commercial transaction monitors and managers. This decision was
built into the original design of the Forte transaction model (using XA and
early Tuxedo white-papers as guidelines):
* In Forte release 2 an integration with Encina was delivered.
* In January 1997 a press release announced an integration of
OpenTP1 with Forte for release 3.
* The Forte engineering staff is currently investing integration
with other transaction management products as well.
Neil Goodman,
Forte Development.You don't. ("manage" a transaction)
There is nothing really to "manage".
A transaction is automatically started when you make any changes to data (e.g. fire off a DML statement).
You simply needs to issue a COMMIT or ROLLBACK when needed. A COMMIT at the end of the business transaction and not before (i.e. no committing every n number of rows). A ROLLBACK when hitting an exception or business logic error that requires the uncommitted changes to be undone.
That in a nutshell is it. It is that simple.
Oracle also supports creating savepoints and rolling back only some changes made thus far in the transaction.
The only other thing to keep in mind that a DDL in Oracle issues an implicit commit. Firing off a DDL with cause any exiting uncommitted transaction to be committed.
Transaction "logic/management" should not be made more complex than this. -
Automated Testing of Forte Applications
Dear Jim,
This is a technical and education Forum and I want to make sure everyone is
"educated" to your options out there. Our company specific purposes is
delivering testing solutions for Forte Developed applications. (Primary
responsibility is to help developers and qa staff) I have tried to answer
you questions as follows and to educate fellow Forte people on solutions
available to them. If you need more discussion about our tools, please
contact me directly.
To anyone interested in testing Forte Applications:
1) What product are developers using to automate the process of testing
Forte applications?
IQTest- Unit Level Testing Tool that tests specific Forte methods and
saves them for automatic regression testing.
IQTrace: Unit Level Pathway Testing. Tests specific method level and
functional threads and saves them for automatic regression testing.
2) If there is a tool, how long does it take to create a typical test?
- Class I.Q. automatically generate the test classes and instantiates the
object under test. A typical setup for a developer is about 30 minutes
which is done once. The actual process of testing methods or traces takes
seconds. All tests are saved to any Forte database for automatic
regression testings.
3) Can the test include the testing of persistance to a database?
Yes, Our products are written to test persistance in a database and all
fully supported to test service objects which is currently a major issue
that most development teams are running into problems with.
4) What type of testing can be performed: black box testing, white box
testing, integration testing, UI testing, etc.?
Class I.Q. is considered a "White Box" approach to testing. It is
exercising the source code and creating an output for each method call.
The test cases then are dynamically linked into a trace.
Some of the features of Class I.Q. Products:
- Automatic Test Class Generation
- Saving of Test Cases and Test Traces
- Groups A queue for Different Testing Responsibilities
- Linking to Any Forte Supported Test Configuration Product
Thank you,
Any additional questions please call or email me directly.

Spry Menu issues in Internet Explorer
I have created a Spry menu for my website and although the menu appears to look fine in Firefox and Safari, the formatting changes in Internet Explorer(IE).
1.sub menu bar is not dropping down below the main menu bar it is appearing at the top of the screen.
2.When you hover over the sub menu bar items the font should be white however in IE it is appearing as an aqua color.
3.The menu bar is not straight across the page, at the beginning and end there are chunks of the menu bar that appear white.
Are there any fixes for these issues that would help to make the menu look consistent across all browsers. The website page is
www.applmgt.net/LMNtestpage/html, below is the code. Any help would be appreciated as soon as possible.

operating and technical employees, such as process operators, power

2 of the Oil Sands Labour Resource Study) found that from 2006 to 2020,
15,000 new employees would be needed for operations and maintenance

over 5,000 plant and facility operators between 2006 and 2020. This

Recently, there have been over 80 job postings for process operators

is one reason (for the increased need) because a lot of the older
guys are going to be coming to the age of retirement within a
very short time and they will have to be replaced,” says
John Cook, associate dean of technology with Keyano College. “The
other reason is expansion of the existing plants and new plants
starting up.”</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hazel White,
recruitment advisor with Syncrude Canada Ltd. says they recently

There are a few different kinds of process operators: refinery/upgrader
process operator, gas plant operator, and oil and gas pipeline operator,

to mineral and hydrocarbon processing in the oil sands industry.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">When

There are industries other than oil and gas where process operators

from these other industries.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">“We have been successful in taking people that had previously worked
in a paper mill,” says White with Syncrude. “The processes
are certainly different. They’re dealing with paper, rather

Process operators in the Fort McMurray area generally have their

I am new to Dreamweaver and therefore would appreciate a bit more help with the issues you identified.
I did replace the doctype. As for removing the menu from a table and putting it into a div, would you be able to identify in the code below how I would do that? Thanks
