Avm2.intrinsics.memory opcodes on android

I read this intresting text:
To make use of the APIs, ensure that you use Flash Builder to build your applications. The compiler package with the APIs are not available for use in IDEs other than Flash Builder.
I try use this sample without FB (by FlashDevelop with flex_sdk_4.6). I found library airglobal.swc (\frameworks\libs\air\) with only two public function for avm2.intrinsics.memory
package avm2.intrinsics.memory
  public function casi32 (addr:int, expectedVal:int, newVal:int) : int;
  public function mfence () : void;
There is not other function as in text (for example li8). So, may be anybody know if I will use airglobal.swc by FB can it work? And can it work on Android?
Thanx!

Hey Artyom, thanks for your reply ! Funnily enough I have been on that thread before as I recall now but again forgot to revisit. And yeah that sounds very likely. I'll try to compile my libs with -emit-XXX in 2-3 days(now working on something else for a bit) and mark your answer as correct if it helps-

  • Undefined imports in inline_as3

    Hey,
    Strange issue. I was porting a C++ game library to FlasCC, more or less a success so far. I had to use some inline_as3 inside that lib like for playing videos (he was doing it with C++ OGV decocding, I'm instead calling AS3 to play FLV for speed, same for mp3 etc). Problem is lately when I compile with anything else than O4 it throws bunch of:
    Error: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: SoundTransform
    Pretending like it never heard of SoundTransform, Sound and some other stuff I'm using in the inlines. I added the imports to package_as3, I even added it ONE LINE above the expressions. For example I have (in the inline_as3):
    import flash.media.SoundTransform;
    var st:SoundTransform = myChannel.soundTransform;
    Nope, SoundTransform  in st:SoundTransform comes out as undefined. What's going on?   When I checked the temporary alctmp-something.as that the compilation process is spitting out, it has this among other lines (this is I assume generated from package_as3 where I'm importing also all libs):
    package C_Run {
    import C_Run_C_3A__5C_Pavel_5C_FlasCC_1_2E_0_2E_1_5C_kanji_svn_5C_src_5C_flascc_5C_KMiscTools_2E _o_3A_48bd10c3_2D_fe3a_2D_445b_2D_82e6_2D_bf997051195d.*
      import avm2.intrinsics.memory.*
    import com.adobe.flascc.CModule
    import flash.media.Sound;
    import flash.media.SoundChannel;
    import flash.media.SoundTransform;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    Then in the generated functions I see for example:
    //InlineAsmEnd
    LBB0_7:;
    //InlineAsmStart
    ESP = esp & ~15;
    import flash.media.SoundTransform;
    var st:SoundTransform = myChannel.soundTransform;
    st.volume = i3 / 100;
    myChannel.soundTransform = st;
    //InlineAsmEnd
    //InlineAsmStart
    ESP = esp & ~15;
    musicPlaying = true;
    This is my attemp to import it from inline_as3 obviously. But still, SoundTransform is claimed to be undefined. How is this possible? The error was reported by llc.exe. Again, when using -O4 it goes without issues...

  • Android viewer scrollable frames

    We often use scrollable frames in folios. Is there a chance the the native android viewer supports vector scrollable frames in the near future?

    Yup, soon. We're trying very hard to get them done but there are some memory things on Android that get in the way of us releasing it. We're working on those issues now.

  • Speed of whatsapp with Nokia Asha 302

    I am a long time Nokia fan and wanted to buy Nokia Asha 302. I would prefer having a qwerty physical keypad and this is the best option available in Nokia now.
    I am using an android phone too with 1.2GHZ dual core processor + 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory
    Nokia Asha has 1 GHZ single core processor + 128 MB RAM and 100 MB onboard memory.
    Whatsapp takes a lot of space and memory atleast in Android.
    Will the application be cope up on Asha 302 which doesn't have great hardware?

    Actually the thing is that the Asha runs a very light java based OS and here apps can't be that heavy. Talking of whatsapp, the application size is barely 2MB and runs in its alloted 4MB of heap and now you're going to feel some difference in the quality of the apps in android and as in asha. Don't expect whatsapp integration directly in your address book and the gallery.
    But i must say that whatsapp does run smoothly and perfectly in the Asha phones. Not a super rich experience, but its simplicity has its own class. You are able to send messages smoothly and emojis can be used aswell.
    Another thing worth mentioning is that whatsapp team is working continuously to improve the app. Not sure about the 302, but Voice messaging has been introduced in the touch based Asha phones.
    Besides the 302, you can also have a look at the newer 210. But yeah it has lesser hardware speas than the 302. But still a nice option if you are not looking for 3G.

  • Apps going to SD card

    I just wonder how to move my applications in the internal storage going to SD card? Please help.

    Foldermount
    This app moves all the big data files to your SD card while leaving it's folder still in the original internal memory location making Android system think that it is still there but when in fact it's not.
    Root access is required.

  • S2110 Micro USB

    Does the microUSB port on the KB of the S2110 allow communication with a PC through the supplied USB cable?  If so, how?   I want to view the internal and SD card memory.  My Android 4.2.2 phone communicates just fine with the cable, but not the S2210.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    OK, I found it.  The KB Micro USB port is for charging only.  The Tablet must be removed form the KB and the microUSB docking port is active for comm with a PC.  Works fine now.

  • What size iPhone 5 should I buy, 16 or 32?

    I am going to buy my first iPhone. I currently own an HTC Android (EVO 4G) and sometimes have to delete things but not always. I do have an iPad2, 32G that I do most of my work  on. I have a lot of files on the iPad The HTC is an  8 gig product with not a lot of music on it, the SD card has 2.7GB used and 4.76 GB free. while the phone has 369 MB used and 57 MB free. Question is does the memory on an Android, and similar applications, transfer over in terms of size on an iPhone thereby allowing me to just get a 16 gig iPhone5? Or do I need more? I probably will not use the iPhone for my music as I have a perfectly good iPod and I have about 200 photos on my current phone.  I really would like to save the $100 if possible especially if I do not need it.
    Thank you.

    You will be fine with the 16GB.  If you get it wrong, just buy more capacity next time.

    Some Android phones have both internal storage and an SD card slot. In order for Spotify to use the SD card for storage of offline playlists, you will need to manually specify which folder you want it to use. Please keep in mind that your offline playlists will need to be re-synced after doing this:
    Download this apk file.
    Enable third part apps in Settings.
    Install this apk file.
    While at the login screen, press the hardware Menu key and select SD Location.
    Enter the path to a folder on the SD card.
    Finding the exact path to your SD card can be done with a file manager and can differ between phones.
    On the Samsung Galaxy S, for example, you should use:
    /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
    Spotify will then store tracks in this folder:
    /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Android/Data/com.spotify.mobile.android.ui
    Go to Market and update Spotify to new without removing old version. Now you can delete Spotify's Storage in Cache from your phone's built-in memory card. You can find it with file manager, just search it from built-in memory card in Android - Data - Spotify - Cache - Storage folder. The new Storage folder is now in external Micro SD card, so you can delete this old Storage folder if still in built-in memory card.
    All done!

  • Memory in Android devices

    To use Android devices efficiently, users should be aware of the different types of device memory. This knowledge is important in order to understand, for example, where music, photos and videos are saved; how many apps can be downloaded from Google Play™; and how photos can be copied to a PC.
    The below information is also of interest to developers who want to optimize their programs to make the best possible use of the resources in the device.
    Generally, all Android devices share the same basic memory setup. What differs is how much memory is available to you via the different types of memory, and whether your device uses an external SD card or an internal memory chip.
    Types of memory
    The types of memory described and numbered below are consistent with the terminology used in Sony mobile device menus and in other content relating to 2013 Xperia™ devices:
    1. Dynamic Memory (also known as RAM) is used by applications that run when the device is turned on. The amount of Dynamic Memory influences how many applications and operating system services can run at the same time. The Android operating system automatically closes applications and services that are not being used.
    However, such automatic functionality has limits. For example, if a lower amount of free RAM is available to applications after a new release of the operating system (due to increased capabilities in the system), device speed will eventually be impacted. This is the main reason that a device cannot be indefinitely upgraded to newer releases of Android™.
    If you experience problems with RAM, for example, if the device runs slower than usual or if the Home application restarts frequently when you leave an application, you should minimize the use of apps that run all the time. Such apps could include, for example, applications that frequently download social networking service updates. You could also consider using a static wallpaper instead of a live wallpaper.
    To see which apps and services are currently active, go to Settings > Applications > Running services. You should have at least 50 MB, and ideally 100 MB or more, of free RAM to avoid slowdowns and application restarts.
    You should also be aware that if you update the device to a later Android release, the load on the built-in Dynamic Memory will increase due to the addition of more features, as mentioned above. As a result, the device may run slower after an update.
    2. System Memory (also known as “System partition” or “/system”) is used for the Android OS and for most applications that are pre-loaded from the factory. This type of memory is normally locked, and can only be changed through a firmware upgrade. There is usually some free space available in this section of memory. However, since it is locked, you cannot save apps, photos or any other content to this memory. System Memory is reserved for future firmware upgrades, which almost always need more memory than the original firmware. You cannot see or influence the use of this memory.
    3. Internal Storage is memory used as” working” memory. It can be compared to the C: drive on a PC or to the startup disk on a Mac.
    This type of memory is used to store all application downloaded from the Google Play™ Store (and other sources) as well as their settings and data (such as emails, messages and calendar events, for example). All applications have an allocated area which no other applications can access and where
    the application data can be stored.
    Some game applications also store content such as game music and game level information outside their own designated area. In most cases, an application can choose to save its data in a location of its own choosing (outside the protected application settings area). Generally, such content is not deleted when an application is uninstalled; it must be removed manually by connecting the device to a computer with a USB cable, or by using a file manager application.
    Internal Storage is also used for all user content added, for example, as a result of the user taking photos with the camera, downloading media files, and performing file transfers. Typical user content includes:
    • photos
    • movies
    • music
    • downloaded documents (as email attachments, for example)
    Internal Storage will tend to fill up as a result of normal usage. Examples of such usage are the saving of data by applications; the downloading and installation of new applications; the downloading of free or paid content; and the shooting of pictures and movies. Therefore, the larger this memory is from the start, the more applications you can download and use, and the more pictures and movies you can shoot.
    If the Internal Storage starts to get full, the device slows down, and in some cases it might no longer be possible to install more apps. You should always ensure that you have at least 100 MB of free Internal Storage. If not, you should consider removing some apps that you seldom use, or move content that you do not frequently access to safe storage.
    You can see approximately how much Internal Storage is free in Settings > Storage >Internal Storage. You can also view more detail about how much memory is used by applications in Settings > Applications.
    Please note that in Sony Mobile 2013 products, “Internal Storage” is now the combination of what was previously known as “Device Memory” or “Phone Memory” (for applications and their data – also previously known as “/data”) and “Internal Storage” (for user’s content – also previously known as “/ sdcard”). The reason for this change is to make the use of available memory more flexible, and also to enable the optional encryption of user’s content.
    Memory card slot
    In some products you may find both a large internal memory and a memory card reader slot. However, on the current Android platform, the card reader slot does not work in the same manner in a device with a large internal memory as it does in a device with ONLY a memory card slot.
    Generally, since most applications expect only a single location for storage, such applications will not generally allow you to SAVE anything to the memory card (i.e., they do not offer the option to choose a storage location). However, some applications (for instance, the Sony Mobile “Camera” application) may actually allow you to do so. Other applications, for example, backup applications such as the Sony Mobile “Memory” application, will by definition be configured to copy content from the Internal Storage to the external SD card.
    On the other hand, when it comes to reading from an external SD Card, you will be able to access content (for example, videos, photos and music) on a memory card inserted in this slot without any special consideration since the Android system searches all available memory for content. Therefore, such products may be regarded as supporting a fourth type of memory, called “External Card” or “SD Card”.
    4. SD Card (known as “/ext_card” from a programmer’s point of view, or by other names in other Android products) is the name for the removable SD memory card in all 2013 Sony Mobile products. As described above, this External Card memory is generally more limited in that any application can read from it, but many applications cannot save to this card. Only a few applications, including backup applications and file manger applications, have the capability to save to this card.
    Backing up data to different memory types
    Generally, you should not save photos, videos and other personal content solely on the internal memory of a device. If something should happen with the hardware, or if the device is lost or stolen, the data stored on the device’s internal memory is gone forever.
    In a device where an SD card reader is the main memory, it is relatively easy to take the card out and copy all content to a PC or Mac, or to an entertainment device with a memory card slot. In a product featuring Internal Storage as the main memory, it is not possible to physically remove the memory. Instead, any critical or high-value content must either be copied to an external SD card by a special backup application, transferred to remote storage over a network (mobile or Wi-Fi), or to a computer via a USB cable.
    To facilitate the transfer of data via a cable, the Xperia™ phone supports the Microsoft standard, Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which makes it possible to easily transfer content back and forth between your device and a Windows PC. For Apple Mac computers, a special application called Sony Bridge for Mac is available with built-in support for MTP. This application can be downloaded from the
    Support page.
    Note that you do not need to back up or make a copy of applications that you have downloaded from the Google Play™ Store. They can normally be downloaded again after you have set up your Google account to work in a new device (or in a device where the memory has been completely erased).
    Note 1:
    As noted above, some Android devices, including Sony Mobile devices from 2012 and Sony Ericsson devices from 2011 and earlier, do not use a single “Internal Storage” for both applications (and their data) and user content. Instead, these devices use either an external SD card for user content, or a corresponding area of internal memory to reproduce the functionality of an SD card. In such devices, there is a fixed limit between the application area (“/data”) and the user content area (“/sdcard”), with the result that user content can build up and reach this limit. The consequence of such a limit being reached, for example, for the camera application, would be that no new pictures could be taken even if there was still a considerable amount of free space in the application area (or in the user content area). In such an instance, the download and installation of new applications would also not be possible, even if there was enough free memory in the content area.
    Note 2:
    Some devices with integrated storage have abandoned the distinction between the application area and the content area when it comes to a Factory Data Reset. As a result, there is no option in such devices to perform a Factory Data Reset and preserve content. In such devices, all content is mandatorily and completely deleted from the device when a reset is performed.
    In contrast, Sony Mobile’s memory integration solution makes it possible to preserve user content in this situation. Therefore, when performing a Factory Data Reset, the default action will still be to only remove applications and their data, and an option box must be checked if all content is to be removed as well (as might be desirable when selling the device second-hand, for instance).
    Note 3:
    For a developer, it is important to note that from a programming point of view the location names used to refer to the different memory areas described in Note 1 are still valid, i.e., the area used for applications (“/data”) is still present, as is the area used for content (“/sdcard”).
    In reality, “sdcard” is a so-called “symbolic link” to “/data/media”. However, from inside an Android application, “/sdcard” can still be used. For example, you can use “sdcard/DCIM/100Android” to find all camera images. The continued use of “/sdcard” to access the content area ensures compatibility across different products and Android releases in this regard.

    Are you perhaps zipping the custom storefront incorrectly? Make sure when you zip up the files that you have them all loose at the top level of the zip file. They can't be inside a folder in the zip file.
    The custom store from DPS Configurator, if you upload it to App Builder directly without unzipping it, should work without error.
    Where are you seeing lacking documentation for Android? Bob spent a great deal of time documenting the new Android viewer, and all of our SDK documentation for custom storefront also has complete details about which APIs are supported on the platform.

  • Mysterious 'android' folder in device memory that cant be deleted

    hi... i have a bb q5 and been using it since 2-3 months now... there is an 'android' folder that appears in the 'misc' folder of the device memory. i cant get rid of this from the bb file explorer as well as from the laptop. when i try to del it, it say permission denied. i guess it started when one of my friends used my sd card in their android based phones. this folder contains all those folders that are there in the device memory like photos, camera, music etc. and some other folders like dcim, notifications. sometimes it shows 11 items inside and sometimes 12 or 13. i dont know if it's a bug or something but it seems quite irritating as it contains nothing space wise. i cant del it from my laptop bcos when i press del, nothing really happens and its still there... so pls can anyone help get rid of this...

    It's my understanding that folder is there for access by the Android runtime software.
    Leave it.

  • Game rendering and memory optimization in AIR for Android

    I am coding an engine for android that uses the fastest methods so I can rapidly make android and iphone (if possible) games.
    1) using GPU rendering, are the bitmapData functions like copyPixels accelerated?
    in other words is it faster to use only copyPixels to render all my game objects to one bitmap or use separate sprites?
    2) this is a general air question, if I want to clear memory used, like for example when moving to a new stage and I want to delete those bitmaps that been used on the previous stage.
    is there a function to force them to be removed from memory, or should I just remove all the references?
    also if I remove all the references from an object it will be deleted if it's listening for events from another object?
    Thanks.

    1. Various forum posts and articles I've seen suggest a blitting approach like copying bitmaps together gives roughly the same performance results as separate sprites with GPU rendering.
    Might be a good idea to setup a processor intensive game scenario and try each for comparison? I'l be interested in hearing how you get on.
    TBH I haven't tried the copyPixels approach yet, so i'll be playing around with it myself soon.
    2. Yes, removing references is the way to get objects garbage collected. There are ways to force garbage collection, but they are hacky. Definitely not good practice.
    And yes make sure you remove the event listeners because as you suspect, they will keep the objects alive.
    There is an argument called 'use weak reference' which you can set to true when you add the event listener. This is intended to prevent them keeping objects alive, but I have seen situations where it doesn't work properly.

  • Is there any LIGHT (low memory) version of Firefox available for low end android deviced?

    There is always a low memory version of almost every browser. Opera has both "Opera Classic" and "Opera Mini", UC Browser has both "UC Browser" and "UC Browser Mini". These Mini-s run very fluently on Low end devies. Takes less RAM (Though they always fail to load pages with better HTML coding) and almost never lags. I want that Firefox also either make their RAM Usage less or release a mini version. Otherwise, like UC Browser, they also should make the Cache storage to SDCARD by default.

    We want to release a browser with roughly the same capabilities as the Desktop version of Firefox. Creating a low feature version of Firefox would only confuse web developers as to what features Firefox on Android has.

  • Memory management (android)

    Hio!
    I'm developing a 2D board-game that's using between 120-190mb of ram.
    I'm not using object pooling but I'm nulling movieclips when they're not added to stage.
    When minimizing the app I stop all timers and remove everything from stage, still it takes up 120mb ram when checking processes.
    Do you have any tips or tricks for lowering RAM-usage?
    Is there some kind of variables hogging more resources than others?
    Thanks!
    /T

    Im not certain how memory works between the AIR runtime and Android, but you probably don't need to worry about it too much(And by not worry, I don't mean failing to null out objects, timers, listeners, etc that you aren't using anymore. You should still do that.). Android is supposed to be great about memory management. If your app isn't the currently active app that a user is running and that active app needs more memory than what is available, Android will start clearing up things using RAM to free it up for apps and services that actually need it.
    RAM: What it is, how it's used, and why you shouldn't care | Android Central
    As far as optimization tips, that may require more details about your app, such as assets and coding methods. Object pooling would be better if you are frequently adding and removing objects from the stage. You can search online for AS3 optimization techniques and find lots of broad information, like using int and uint over Number if you don't need decimals for numbers, using Vector arrays over Array, use int() over Math.floor(), etc. Some things that I have personally found to be faster(sometimes a lot faster, sometimes insignificantly faster) is using while loops over For loops and using "i+=1" over "i++". Im sure others here can provide better tips than I when it comes to assets as pretty much all of stuff I do is created with code and I use as little Library assets as possible.
