Avoid depreciation posting for a depreciation area

Hello experts,
I have the following problem:
I created a new valuation area for fixed assets that is to be active since 31.12.2007. Values are going to be uploaded for the new area in this transfer date. Afterwards, depreciation  for years 2008, 2009 and 2010 is to be run in order to post the depreciation of the new area during these years but I don´t want any depreciation to be posted in area 01 by any means, because for this area depreciation is already posted. I know that no depreciation shoud be posted because planned depreciation is already equal to real depreciation in area 01 but just in any case I would like to avoid depreciation to be posted in this area.
So, I thought about shutting down the asset for area 01 but when testing it. I don´t see the efect, I mean the asset keeps depreciating. I put the shutdown flag in the asset master data and also created a new depreciation key, to assign a different key depending on depreciation area. For the area I need sutdown, shutdown indicator is set to "yes" at the assignment of calculation method (transaction AFAMA) but for the depr. area I don´t need the sutdown indicator is set to "no" .
Is it a good idea to use asset shutdown in this case or is there any risk of area 01  trying to adjust the already posted depreciation?
Why shutting down the asset is failing since I configured both asset master master and depr. key?
Is there another solution (different to shutdown) to avoid posting depreciations in area 01?
Thanks in advace, rmb

Hi,
my last answer was wrong - I'm sorry.
Shutdown is the correct solution.
For shutdown there are 2 settings relevant.
1) in Asset master date you hav set the flat shotdown.
2) In depr. Key you have not set "Shutdown. Yes"
      ad 2)
AFAMA:
  Depr. Key
    -> Assignment of Calculation Methods
-> please see the last field below.
For sure I would not change the standard depr. key, i would make a copy.

  • Depreciation posted for wrong GL

    Hi Sap experts,
My issue is "Depreciation posted for wrong GL" --(periods-4th,9th and 12)
Here my client is maintained 01for book depreciation area and 11-for IFRS depreciation area
    Actually Depreciation posted as:-Depreciation a/c Dr 1000/-
                                                        Accumulated p&m Cr1000/-
Above entry appearing in 11-IFRS depreciation area, but depreciation value amount showing in 01 book dep. area.
Client requirement is dep.value has to appear in 11-IFRS depreciation area.
    One solution -
-is wrongly GL assigned for IFRS in a/c determination-AO90 transaction.
Second scenario--- is how these depreciation value adjustment for IFRS for correct GL code.
    Best Regards,

  • Asset Unplanned Depreciation posting for period 12 where ord dep is posted

    Dear Experts,
I have a requirement where i want to post Unplanned/Manual depreciation for asset for period 12 where i have already posted ordinary depreciation and now when i am trying to change the post key i am getting a message "Enter a depreciation key with 'depreciation by days'
Is their any possibility where i can post some depreciation amount manually or through unplanned depreciation for period 12 without disturbing Planned depreciation amount.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    No,
a depreciation key with 'depreciation by days' you can only change in a depreciation key with 'depreciation by days'
This is set-up in the depreciation key
    This is the help:
    Depreciation calculation to exact day
Specifies that the  system calculates depreciation to the day.
    Use
Any period control methods entered in the depreciation key are ignored for the entire useful life of the asset. This applies to all transactions (acquisitions, retirements, and transfers). The system always uses the asset value date as the depreciation start date.
The "depreciation to the day" function becomes active for an asset as soon as the asset has a corresponding depreciation key and the asset is capitalized (posted to). Once this takes place, it is no longer possible to switch off this function for the asset, even if you change the depreciation key. On the other hand, it is not possible to activate this function for an asset after it has already been capitalized using a different depreciation key.

  • Depreciation posting for Book Assets to Cost Center

    Dear Friends,
We have upgraded from 4.70 version to ECC6.0 EHP4. Fixed Assets was not
implemented in 4.70. Now we are implementing Fixed Assets module in
    ECC6.0.
We have copied the Standard Chart of Deprecition 0IN from Client 000
and renamed the same as BCLL: Chart of depreciation: BCLL.
I defined asset masters and maintained Cost center and Bus Area in the
    Time Dependent area.
I maintained the configuration in Transaction Code ACSET for the
    default Cost Center.
But while posting depreciation i.e. AFAB, the system is throwing error
and not posting to the Cost center defined in the asset master.
Hence I am maintaining the Default Cost center in OKB9 for depreciation
    posting.
Please help me in resolving the issue.
    Best Regards
    Srinivas A

    Dear Friends,
As pointed out by you, I have already activated the Account Assignment KOSTL and also maintained the Account Assignment Object in ACSET but the system is throwing the error "Account 4850 requires an assignment to a CO object", Message Number KI235.
The system is not posting to the Cost Center maintained in the Asset Master record.
Hence I posted to the Cost Center maintained in OKB9 but I understand this is not the correct appraoch.

  • Depreciation run for specific depreciation area

    Hi,
In AA, we defined 2 depreciation area for all the assets class, one for local(01), another one for group(30). all the area will be posted to FI.
according to requirement, we would like to stop specific depreciation area depreciation run for certain asset(not asset class). this means that for depreciation area 01, it will be work, but for 30, it should be stopped. may be 3 months later, this asset will be restart run depreciation for area 30.
Would anyone know how to do that? thanks.
    Ben

    Hi
Hope you have to change the Config settings then.
Go to AO21 and select your screen layout and double click Field Group rules and under FG 18 you have Deactiv. area make this enrty optional and also select the check box MnNo.
    Save the entry.
Come back to AS02,now the dep area will be available for deactivation.

  • Depreciation Posting for Unit of Production Method

    HI,
This question is related to posting of Unit of Production depreciation method.
Ref to my own Thread - Hourly Depreciation on Assets
I have configured the deprecitaion key for UoP method. The same is been assigned in Asset Master.
But now the problem is, during AFAB processing the assets with UoP depreciation key is not getting picked.
Is there any other way to post the depreciation for such asstes?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ajay Gupte

    Hi,
    Thanks for your replies.
    1. UL field status is optional in "screen layout for depreciation areas" config and we do not want to change to any other method, t.code OA77 does not exist.
As per help for field UL it says "If a useful life is not entered in the asset class, and you use depreciation keys that calculate automatically, this field is a required entry regardless of the settings in the screen layout control".
    2. Thanks for this we are using 0018, if we use 0019 it is calculating.
I will try this and let you know.

    Hi Praveen,
Your not mentioned which version followed by you Either ECC 6.0 or 4.7.
If your following ECC 6.0 version Here you can deselect the external check box for document type AF. (OBA7)
Then you can execute depreciation under TC AFAB .
You can see the planned or unplanned depreciation.
The Above information it might be resolved your issue.
    Thanks

  • Problem with depreciation posting for an asset with a '0' net book value.

    Hi,
I have a problem with depreciation posting on one asset. I think it should not be calculated and posted at all.
On 1st November 2010 (our Fiscal year starts on 1st November) there was acquisition posted to an asset and then it was reversed on the same day - so the net book value was '0'.
In AFAB depreciation run for April 2011 - it posted depreciatoion of 0.01 Euro, so now the book value is -0.01.
Do you know how this could have happened and what can I do to get the value of this asset back to 0?
    Thank you,
    Karol

    Hi Murlidhar,
    Thank you for your reply.
I just have one doubt - as depreciation of 0.01 Eur was posted in previous period leaving net value of asset equal to -0.01 Eur.
Shouldn't I get ritd of this asset value before I proceed with the steps you suggested?
I think it is not possible to reverse the depreciation - so I struggle to find a way to bring asset value back to zero.
    Thank you,
    Karol

  • Depreciation run for each business area

    Hi all,
In case all business areas are belong to 1 company code.
So how to run depreciation for each business area separately?
I mean business area A can run depreciation for itself, and not affect other business areas in the same company code.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciate!
    Thanks in advance any help!
    HuyenTT

no, this is not possible, as the depreciation run needs to be executed for the whole company code.

    Hi ,
i am strucked with posting of depreciation of an asset.
Plz any one can suggest solution for below scenario : --
    Company  code : ABC LTD.
    Fiscal Year       : April,2008 to March,2009
Cost an Machinery : 1,20,000 , April 1st is Aquisition date.
Dep Method is Units of Production .
Depreciation for each month is 10,000 based on the formula.
i executed depreciation of Machinery in the months of April,May,June also. (Depreciation amount for 3 months is  30,000  )
in the month of 1st July , additional acquisitions posted.
the amount is rs 1,20,000. here the problem is :
the depreciation amount is showing 50,000 ,while iam executing depreciation run in the month of Jully,31st.
depreciation for additional asset should be calculated from month of 1st jully onwards but its calculatin form the month of april onwards.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
this is the correct behaviour in the capitalization year. Please consider OSS notes 53166 and 92925, which contain an explanation of that behaviour and a workaround.

  • Depreciation posted for the wrong asset class

    Hi Experts
An asset was posted for the wrong asset class. Invoices for this asset were already posted and depreciation was posted for several months. Now we realize the mistake and want to correct it. How can we reverse the origanl documents including the depreciation and post it to the correct asset class accounts?
    Thanks
    Ofer

    Hi Ofer,
you can transfer the depreciation to the new asset. Why you want to reverse th edepreciation?
Generally depreciation can not reversed. If you want to reverse the depreciation you can enter depr. key "0000" and make a repead run. In that case the depreciation will be reversed (posted oposite) for alle open fiscal years.

  • How to accelerate the depreciation posting for the desired usefull life

    Hi,
we are having issues in accelerating the depreciation on some assets, we want these assets to depreciated based on the revised usefull life
For example: if the asset CAP date is 01/01/2009 with usefull life 3 years
we change the useful life on assets from 3 years to 2.5 years  (As we want this asset to fully depreciate in May 2011), how can we do with out using ABAA. these assets should be fully depreciated on the desired period as mentioned above.
We don't have smoothing turned on, but system is not calculating correctly, either it is fully depreciating the total amount earlier or later than expected period.
    any help is truely appreciated.
    Thanks
    Smitha

    Hi Ajay,
Thanks a lot for your response!
We just went live in Sept 2010 and our company doesn't want to go for unplanned depreciation option/ transfering the assets,
as in the legacy system they were able to enter the remaining usefull life on the asset and the assets were depreciating as intented.
we have given the above options but they were requesting for some other ideas.
what is the use of expaired usefull life in asset master record, we were changing the expired usefull life but it is not at all effecting the depreciation calculation.
    Please advice
    Thanks

    Thanks
    shivaji

    Hi,
I have an answer for your 1st question only.
After putting the data in F.01 click on the "Arrow" which is there beside the option Business Area which will take you tor "Multiple selection for Business Area" window.
In that window do not enter anything but select the 3rd option, "Maintain selection options". you will get one more window with the options 1. Single Value 2. Greater than or equal to and so on......
Select, 1st option, Single Value and execute (F8). Also select - "Classical List" option under List Output in F.01, you will be able to see "Non Business Area" related GL's in Balance Sheet.

  • Depreciation posting for two different Cost Centers

    Hello everybody,
My client has an asset that was assigned to Cost Center #1 from the 1st of january to the 20th. Then it was reassigned to Cost Center #2. (Cost Center is configured to be a time dependent field).
We were expecting the system to split the depreciation amount into these two Cost Centers at the end of the month. Apparently we were expecting too much. The depreciation amount is going completely to Cost Center #2 wich is incorrect.
Do you think that there is something missing in the configuration? Or SAP just does not split the depreciation amount according to the time intervals? If that is impossible, do you have any alternative solutions?
    Thanks a lot,
    Plácido

    Distribution of Depreciation and Interest
It is only possible to enter one cost center in the asset master record. You distribute depreciation and interest to different cost centers using settlement within Controlling (CO). The cost center in the asset master record then serves the function of a distribution cost center.
The disadvantage of this approach is that reports show only the distribution cost center, and not the cost centers that are actually debited. Also, you need to create a separate cost center for the distribution.
A different approach is to follow this procedure:
    ·        Determine the cost center that you want to be shown in asset reports as the cost center of the asset. Enter this cost center in the asset master record.
    ·        Enter an internal order in the asset master record. The system then posts to this order when it posts depreciation. The system does not post to the cost center.
    ·        Settle the internal order to the cost centers that you want to debit.
