Avoid repeating a 'for' loop 3 times

Any ideas how can I make my code more efficient by not
repeating the for loop 3 times within a script? Any tutorial links
or first hand experience – I’d be grateful for any
pointers:
1) First I use it to set up a drag n’ drop activity:
for (var i:Number = 0; i<words.length; i++) {
//set a var for the instances on stage:
var eachWord:String = "drag"+[i+1]+"_mc";
this[eachWord].word_txt.text = words
[0];
this[eachWord].onPress = function() {
startDrag(this, false, leftLimit, topLimit, rightLimit,
bottomLimit);
this[eachWord].onRelease =
this[eachWord].onReleaseOutside=function () {
this.stopDrag();
2) Then I use it in the part that makes it accessible by
keyboard:
function myOnKeyDown() {
for (var i:Number = 0; i<words.length; i++) {
var thisDrag:String = "drag"+[i+1]+"_mc";
if (Key.isDown …
ETC along with a listener object
3) I also have to use it in another function that the user
can call to toggle something on/off within each drag object.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

thanks for the reply! I actually figured out a different
(although probably less efficient) way to do it. I put David's
script just before the replay button and set it up like this:
stop();
gotoAndPlay(1);
if (!loopCount) {
var loopCount:Number = 0;
loopCount++;
if (loopCount >= 3) {
this.gotoAndPlay(359);
this was placed at frame 358, with the button placed at 359,
so after it looped 3 times it continued on to 359, showed the
button and stopped the movie there. again, not the most elegant but
it did the job

  • How can I repeat a for loop, once it's terms has been fulfilled???

    Well.. I've posted 2 different exceptions about this game today, but I managed to fix them all by myself, but now I'm facing another problem, which is NOT an error, but just a regular question.. HOW CAN I REPEAT A FOR LOOP ONCE IT HAS FULFILLED IT'S TERMS OF RUNNING?!
    I've been trying many different things, AND, the 'continue' statement too, and I honestly think that what it takes IS a continue statement, BUT I don't know how to use it so that it does what I want it too.. -.-'
    Anyway.. Enought chit-chat. I have a nice functional game running that maximum allows 3 apples in the air in the same time.. But now my question is: How can I make it create 3 more appels once the 3 first onces has either been catched or fallen out the screen..?
    Here's my COMPLETE sourcecode, so if you know just a little bit of Java you should be able to figure it out, and hopefully you'll be able to tell me what to do now, to make it repeat my for loop:

  • How to pass the sequence number of current loop in a for loop in FPGA vi to the host

    PCI-7830R
    LV 8.2
    What I was trying to do is to use multiple DIO to generate pulse at different sequence. Mode one is to automatically sweep from DIO1 to DIO20; mode 2 is several DIOs generate pulse simoutaneously.  So I use a case structure to make the selection, in the mean time, I set up two for loop in each case so that I can use multiple pulse generations. For example, in scanning mode, if I set 2 exposures, it sweeps from 1 to 20 then do it again.
    Then I need to get the loop sequence number, i of each scenario. So I put an indicator within the first loop, and create a local variable of it and put in the second one.  Running the FPGA vi alone, I can see the indicator change in each case from 0 to N-1, N being the for loop time.But in the host vi, I tried to add this indicator as an element in the read/write invoke method, in the debugging mode, I could only see it directly jump to N-1 without all the changes I saw in FPGA vi.
    Is it possible to get this number passed correctly from FPGA vi to the host vi? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply Jared.
    Excuse me if it looks incorrect, but I'm new to FPGA programming, so I would have to look into the FIFO you referred to.  I used local variables because for one thing I have several different cases containing for loop in each of them, and I only want one indicator for the "i".  If I put the indicator out of any for loop, it's only gonna show the last number which is N-1.  For the other thing, it seems like property nodes are not allowed in FPGA vi.  And by doing this, I can see the i number changing from 0 to N-1 in each case, well, in FPGA vi's front panel.  But while I ran the host vi with everything, the indicator in host vi's front panel only showed the last number N-1. It may be the reason you said, it happened too fast before the indicator in host vi can catch it.
    What I want to realize is to group the data I collect in host vi, for example, when I choose multiple exposure in each mode, and the FPGA runs 1 through 20 then do it again, I want the data stored in two groups using the loop sequence number as the seperator in file name.  So it goes like 1-1, 2-1.......20-1; then 1-2, 2-2,.....20-2.

  • How to get count from new enhanced for loop

    Is there a better way to determine the count when new enhanced for loop is used as follows:
    String[] test = new String[]{"1","2","3"};
    int count = 0;
    for(String i: test)
    count++;
    system.out.println("count: "+count);
    }

    There are cases where I need to use the count inside
    the for loop. I can keep track of the count by using
    the increment. But, then I would rather using the old
    for loop. Go ahead and use it. Are you under the assumption that the old form should be avoided?
    There is no saving in term of efficiency and readability.If there is any added efficiency in the "for each" form of the loop, it is on the micro level, and you would never notice it.
    As far as readability, look at some of the crazy solutions you've been given to avoid the general for loop, then reconsider which is more readable.

  • Run a for loop for specified time period

    Hello to everyone,
    I am trying to create a data acquisition system for a NI 9162 board. I need to
    acquire a certain quantity of data (for example 10 minutes) each half an hour
    for example and repeat this process a lot of times. I am trying to do this with
    a loop execution but this is not working well. The first data acquired  is
    ok but in the rest there are a lot of problems. The times are not being
    respected and the board is not acquiring anything. Does anyone can help me? I
    am attaching the VI that I am using.
    Thanks,

    You can either use an System.Timer event OR a timed loop in the Structures pallete.
    Use the NI Example finder and search for timer to get an example of timed loops.
    Or use a .NET constructor, go to System in the drop down, the select System timer for the timer control, register the event callback.
    Use the rating system, otherwise its useless; and please don't forget to tip your waiters!
    using LV 2010 SP 1, Windows 7

  • How do i sweep two voltage at the same time by using for loop ?

    Hello, Can anyone help me on this topic ?
    My problem is to sweep Vds and Vgs as same time vs Id in MOSFET by using for loop. I also use the Agilent power supply source. Let me tell a litle bit about what i'm doing. For different value of Vds, i will get Vgs vs Id curve. (The x axis is Vgs, the y-axis is Id).
    I started to create two for-loop, the inner to sweep Vgs, and the outer one to sweep Vds. My problem is don't know how to connect all the wire in  the for loop.
    In the for loop i saw N, i icon. Suppose I have the two variable for Vgs such as Vgs start and Vgs_stop. Should the Vgs_start( or Vgs_stop) be connected to N or leave it in the for_loop ?
     for example: I want to sweep Vgs from 0(for Vgs_start)  to  5(Vgs_strop) V, and the step increment is .5V how do i connect these variables in the for loop ?
    Thank you for your time
    Ti Nguyen

    It is easier to use a while loop.  Dennis beat me to the punch.  Here is my solution:
    You can remove the flat sequence structure if you use Error In and Error Out to ensure the execution flow will occur in the proper order.  Be sure to include the delay time in the loop so that your vi doesn't hog all the CPU time.

  • Using a For loop to call one array element at a time

    I have been working on a VI that reads a GPS unit, parses the data, outputs what I need, compares the actual GPS location to the desired location, determines a desired heading and moves on from there.  My question pertains to the number of desired locations I can input right now.  I need to be able to input a predtermined number of locations (not just the one that I can input right now).  I was told that it is possible to use a For Loop with an array and have the first set of Lat and Long values run through the VI and when everything is complete that the next set of values will be chosen.  Does this mean that I need to put the entire VI inside a For Loop and have the array update as soon as the VI has completed its first mission?  I understand the concept of how this work from other programming languages but I'm not sure how to implement the solution in LabVIEW.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Here is a portion of the VI.  I need two separate arrays, one for Latitude and one for Longitude, of the same size.
    I don't see any arrays in your code. Do you want to generate arrays form individual data points or do you want to process arrays, one element at a time? Both can take advantage of autoindexing. Here's a simple picture.
    Your VI contains a weird mix of DBL and EXT precision. Most likely all you need is DBL. Keep your representations consistent!

    I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
    I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
    Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

  • How to control the looping time of the for loop in 10 microseconds in labview?

  • Restarting a elapsed time function in a for loop

    Hello,
    I am having an issue while using an elasped time function inside of a while loop (I wire the Time has elapsed? boolean to the stop function of the while loop), that is consequently inside of a for loop.  The elapsed time function works correctly on its own in a while loop, but when added to a for loop will not reset for each iteration of the for loop.  I can post an example if it is needed, but has anyone run into this problem before?  I have tried wiring all the reset boolean's but I cannot get the timer to reset untill the for loop has finished.
    Any suggestions on how to achieve this another way are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    I found the issue, I was using 2 timers inside of the for loop on the assumption that they are completely independant of one another....they are not.  if time has elapsed on one timer then it uses that time to start off the next timer, kind of a wierd behaviour but I guess I am not really using the timer in a normal manner.

  • Repeating nodes using FOR loop but when concating XML string then concating only last iteration of FOr loop ??

    I stuck with a problem that I am using FOR loop for generating repeating nodes.
    Now when I concat the generated node in the main node then I got only last iteration of that FOR loop.
    can anybody suggest me a way to handle this error....
    FOR i IN 1..pl_phone_tab.Count
    LOOP
    SELECT xmlelement("Phone"
                                        ,xmlelement("PHONETYPE",xmlattributes('01' AS "dmnADRP_PHONETYPE"),pl_phone_tab(i).p_phtype_tab)
                         ,xmlelement("PHONENUM",pl_phone_tab(i).p_phnum_tab)
                         ,xmlelement("PRIMARY_CONTACT",pl_phone_tab(i).p_prcon_tab)
    INTO p_phone_xml
    FROM dual; END LOOP;
    SELECT xmlelement("PhoneInfo"
                           ,xmlconcat(p_phone_xml))
    INTO p_phone_info_xml
    FROM dual;
    here I am getting only one node but there has to be two nodes for PHONE node

    Not that I'm encouraging you but here are two standalone examples explaining how to do what you want :
    1) Loop through the input collection and append each node to its target container :
    SQL> declare
      2
      3    type t_emp_tab is table of scott.emp%rowtype;
      4
      5    emp_tab       t_emp_tab;
      6    emp_info_xml  xmltype;
      7    emp_xml       xmltype;
      8
      9  begin
    10
    11    -- filling emp_tab with data
    12    select e.*
    13    bulk collect into emp_tab
    14    from scott.emp e
    15    where e.deptno = 10;
    16
    17    emp_info_xml := xmltype('<EmpInfo/>');
    18
    19    -- looping through emp collection and appending to EmpInfo element
    20    for i in 1 .. emp_tab.count loop
    21      select appendchildxml(
    22               emp_info_xml
    23             , '/*'
    24             , xmlelement("Emp"
    25               , xmlattributes(emp_tab(i).empno as "id")

    28                 , emp_tab(i).job as "Job"
    29                 )
    30               )
    31             )
    32      into emp_info_xml
    33      from dual;
    34    end loop;
    35
    36    dbms_output.put_line(emp_info_xml.getclobval(1,2));
    37
    38  end;

    2) Build a secondary collection of XML nodes and use XMLAgg to aggregate them in one go :
    SQL> declare

      3    type t_emp_tab is table of scott.emp%rowtype;
      4

      8
      9  begin
    10

    12    select e.*
    13    bulk collect into emp_tab
    14    from scott.emp e
    15    where e.deptno = 10;
    16
    17    -- looping through emp collection and appending to the collection of Emp nodes
    18    for i in 1 .. emp_tab.count loop
    19
    20      emp_xml_tab.extend;
    21
    22      select xmlelement("Emp"
    23             , xmlattributes(emp_tab(i).empno as "id")
    24             , xmlforest(
    25                 emp_tab(i).ename as "Name"
    26               , emp_tab(i).job as "Job"
    27               )
    28             )
    29      into emp_xml_tab(i)
    30      from dual;
    31
    32    end loop;
    33
    34    select xmlelement("EmpInfo", xmlagg(t.column_value))
    35    into emp_info_xml
    36    from table(emp_xml_tab) t ;
    37
    38    dbms_output.put_line(emp_info_xml.getclobval(1,2));
