Azure AD Sync - Create Database on SQL in Advance?

Is there a way to precreate the "ADSync" database on standalone SQL as opposed to giving the service account dbcreator and having the installer create it during installation?
I created a database called "ADSync" and assigned my service account dbowner to it. This previously worked with the old DirSync but with Azure AD Sync, I'm getting a message that the database already exists and that I need to delete it.

Also, you may try changing the database name (while pre-creating) to maybe "ADSyncXYZ" - isolating any clash in naming SQL database (by the wizard).

Permission denied when creating database in Sql Server 2008 for SQLExpress

I'm getting an permission error while restoring the database. I'm using SQL Server 2008 SQLEXPRESS
I'm able to create the user using this script " CREATE LOGIN [darth\vader] FROM WINDOWS;
GO;"
But when I try to give role to the user it's still give me permission error.. SP_ADDSRVROLEMEMBER ‘darth\vader’, ‘sysadmin’
Can someone guide me how to resolve this issue?

Create DB through SQL*Plus

What is the syntax used to create a database within SQL*Plus (my
assumption as an Oracle newbie is that it can be done)?
A "Create Database <dbname>" command returns an insufficient
privileges error (user = system).

To create database from SQL*Plus you need to use connect as
sysdba. But not only this. The hole procedure is very dificult.
You need to set iniSID.ora file, setup environment variables and
so on. It is easy to use graphical tools.
But if you want to know more about database administration it is
good idea to create at least one time database from 'scrap'.
Read create database topics in Oracle Database Administration
Guide. If you do it alone it will be great task. Good luck.

SQL Server 2012 Deploy Database to SQL Azure...

I have spent many days trying to copy a simple test database from my PC to SQL Azure but with little success. Then I installed SQL Server 2012 and see a new task:
Deploy Database to SQL Azure... It looks like an automated extraction to DAC and then creating the Azure database all in one step.
I was elated, but got hit with the following three types of errors.
One or more unsupported elements were found in the schema used as part of a data package.
Error SQL71564: The element Extended Property: [dbo].[Accounts].[Address].[MS_Description] is not supported when used as part of a data package (bacpac).
Error SQL71564: Table Table: [dbo].[Activities] does not have a clustered index. Clustered indexes are required for inserting data in this version of SQL Server.
Error SQL71564: Element User: [NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE] has an unsupported property AuthenticationType set and is not supported when used as part of a data package.

May I know what I can do on the on-premise database to rid of the first and third error?

1) Remove the Extended Property from the (?) column Address in table Accounts.
BTW, for small databases it's sometimes easiere to generate a script for the database (and modify it slightly) instead of using the Wizard

What is Extended Property? What is this .MS_Description? I can't see it in the table designer or the Column Properties. (I don't know whether this was corruption caused by Data Sync I used earlier.) How do I remove it.
Of all the methods of copying SQL Server to Azure SQL, this one gives the least mistakes. If I can solve this Extended Properties thing hopefully I can migrate the database over.

This is a noob question, though I do use SQL Server databases all the time with Entity Framework when I code in C# using Visual Studio 2013. The development environment is found below at [A]. I am trying to make a clone of a SQL Server 2008 R2
database (.mdf) that exists online. I can read, connect and work with this database in Visual Studio 2013, but I wish to make a local copy of the database, as an .MDF file. Somewhere in my notes I have a way of creating a local copy from
an online database when using Visual Studio but I forgot how (it seems, reviewing my notes, that it deals with ADO.NET which is deprecated in Visual Studio 2013 these days, or so it seems). So I'm looking for another way. What I did was create
(or export) a "Data-Tier Application File" from the online SQL Server database, with data, and it seems to have worked in that this Data-Tier Application file exists on my hard drive and seems to have data in it ("SQL Server Replication Snapshot"
is the format it seems). It contains skeleton code to create a database, but when I tried to execute it with SQL Server 2014 Management Studio, I got a bunch of errors.
So my question is:

3) same question as 2), but for Visual Studio 2013? I don't think so, since I notice none of the templates even mentions ADO.NET anymore, but instead they go with Entity Framework. Using EF I can of course do anything I want with the online database
(CRUD), but it remains online. Maybe there's a switch to make a local copy? I guess I could write a short program to suck all the data out of the online database and put it into a new, duplicate database having the same tables, that I create on
my localhost, but my question here is if there's an easier way than this, maybe a tool or command I can run from inside Visual Studio?
Any advice on any of the above questions is appreciated.

"2. what do you mean by online file?" - I mean the SQL Server database file is on a remote web server that I rent from, but I am not the administrator of. I can access my database using SQL Server Authentication, but nothing more.

Can't create a new SQL Azure Standard Tier db

I'm having an issue creating a new sql azure standard tier db. Here's the basic steps I've done to migrate a web tier db.
Register for the sql preview programme

Perform a db export to blob storage
use the + (new) button to create a new SQL db
select the import option
browser to your saved export
hopefully see the new tiers as options in dialog.
The new tiers require a separate server to web. Can create this from the import dialog
I have 2 independent azure accounts, the above process worked for my test account but for the live account where I was also experimenting after success on the test account I hit an issue. I request to create a new server whilst importing. This step seems
to work but then the actual import fails with this msg

Tried a couple of times but no joy. Using the portal I can browse to the new sql server and it looks okay other than the list of ENABLED
RESERVATION SIZES ONLY HAS P1, P2, P3 I'm requesting a standard (s1) db not premium (P1, P2, P3). On my test server I see in this list also S1,
S2. As you can see in the error message I'm requesting Edition = Standard. I get the feeling the newly created server is not accepting standard tier dbs?
Now the server is created if I try an import I see the server in the list of available servers but when I select a tier of Basic or Standard the new server is grayed out, not so if I select Premium or the older Web or Business? Interestingly my current live
sql server shows up as supporting the new premium?

SQL Azure Data Sync 'Refresh Schema' Not Working

I am trying to setup SQL Azure sync from my core database to a reporting database (both SQL Azure). I successfully setup sync with my secondary (and smaller schema) database. When I try to define the Sync rules and hit Refresh Schema it never
finishes. I've been trying to do this off/on for the last ~3 months so I don't think it is an intermittent issue.

Per https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/jj590380.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 I had (2) columns that had over 50 characters in length preventing the page from loading.
Once they were removed the schema was able to refresh.

Failed to create Database Link in OWB 9.2 for remote SQL Server

Hi,
I have to create Database link for connecting to SQL server in a different machine.I am using OWB 9.2 and XP.
Dataserver is the machine name which is running SQL Server
I included follwing lines in TNSNAMES.ORA file
hsodbc.world =
(DESCRIPTION =

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dataserver)(PORT = 1433)

I included follwing lines in Listener.ORA file

- Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists on your repository server
in the proper place and is accessible. See the operating
system specific manual for details on the required name and location.
- Check to see that the service name exists in one of the
TNSNAMES.ORA files and add it if necessary.
- Make sure there are no syntax errors in the file.
Particularly look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters.
Any error in a TNSNAMES.ORA file makes it unusable. See
Chapter 4 in the SQL*Net V2 Administrator's Guide. If possible,
regenerate the configuration files using the Oracle Network Manager.
Is there anything wrong in my configuration. Please help me in getting out of this problem.

Error when creating a database on SQL Server 2012(Virtual Machine)

Hi,
I create a virtual machine on VMWare Workstation 10, then install Windows 7(32bit), then install SQL Server 2012 Enterprise version.
Then I write a Visual C++2008 program and using ADO to connect to the local SQL Server, with the connection string below:
“Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=(local);Integrated Security=SSPI;”
The connect succeed, then I try to create a new SQL Server database by calling:
m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘E:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
where E: is a USB drive plugged in.
When running the above statement, I can even see the MyDatabase.mdf file is being created, but finally get an error and error number is 80040e31 when checking the error from m_pConnection, after analyzing the com exception, we find it reports the error as
“IDispath error #3121”. Both errors seem to indicate a “Timeout error”.
Then I try to create the database on the local drive in the virtual machine, as follows:
m_pConnection->Execute(_T(“create database MyDatabase on primary (name = ‘MyDatabase’, filename = ‘C:\\MyDatabase.mdf’)”), NULL, 0);
Then I get error number: 80040e14 from m_pConnection, and com error is “IDispath error #3092”
What is the problem?

I made a database whose path is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\depot1
I tried to make .udl connection file, but when I click on "test connection" with the provider: "OLEDB Provider for Microsoft SQL Server" I get the Error "UDL Connection File Failure" (attached below)
When I tried to make the .udl connection file with the provider "Microsoft SQL native Client 11.0" and when I click on "Test Connection" I get the Error" UDL Native Client_1"& " UDL Native Client_2".
Please help!

Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to docs.oracle.com.
Locate the link for your Oracle product and version, and click on it.

Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
