Azure RemoteApp Issue

The same error appear the account is not in the correct state, when I'm trying to create a new service (remote app collection, upload template,..).
any ideas.

What is the state of your Azure subscription (enabled ,disabled) and also your RemoteApp status - is in trial, trial expired, active?

    Symptoms:  You select an Azure RemoteApp collection in the Azure portal and then click Update. The result is a pop-up like the following:
     Unexpected error
    An expected error occurred. Check the management portal for related information, and then try again. If you continue to experience this problem, please contact support.

    Workaround:
    Install the latest Azure PowerShell module (version 0.8.16 - you will encounter errors if you do not use at least this version)
    Connect to your subscription
    Use a cmdlet to update the collection:
    “Update-AzureRemoteAppCollection -CollectionName <collection> -ImageName <image name>"
    Resolution:  A fix for this has been applied to the Azure site.

  • What is the difference between Azure RemoteApp Basic vs Standard Plans in terms of compute cores and memory?

    So our customer has asked us to compare compare Amazon Workspace and Azure RemoteApp offerings for them to choose from. While looking at Amazon Workspace, it clealy defines bundles with specific CPU cores, memory and user storage. However, Azure RemoteApp
    only specifies user storage and vaguely compares its basic vs. standard plans in terms of "task worker" vs. "information worker"
    I tried looking up its documentation but couldn't find specific CPU cores that are dedicated per user in basic vs. standard plans. I have following questions:
    Can anyone point me in the right direction or help understand how many CPU cores and memory are dedicated (or shared) per user in each plan?
    Our customer would most likely need a "custom" image for their custom apps. Is it possible for us to choose specific CPU cores and memory for the users to be able to run their apps in azure remoteapp?
    In case i am misunderstanding the basic difference between AWS workspace and Azure RemoteApp, i'd appreciate some help in understanding it as well.

    Hi,
    With Azure RemoteApp users see just the applications themselves, and the applications appear to be running on their local machine similar to other programs.  With Workspaces users connect to a full desktop and launch applications within that.
    1. Azure RemoteApp currently uses size A3 Virtual Machines, which have 4 vCPUs and 7GB RAM.  Under Basic each VM can have a maximum of 16 users using it whereas under Standard each VM is limited to 10 users.  The amount of CPU available
    to a user depends on what the current demands are on the CPU at that moment from other users and system processes that may be on the server.
    For example, say a user is logged on to a VM with 3 other users and the other users are idle (not consuming any CPU).  At that moment the user could use all 4 vCPUs if a program they are running needed to.  If a few moments later
    the other 3 users all needed lots of CPU as well, then the first user would only have approximately 1 vCPU for their use.  The process is dynamic and seeks to give each user their fair share of available CPU when there are multiple users demanding CPU.
    Under the Standard plan a user will receive approximately a minimum of .4 vCPU assuming that the VM has the maximum number of users logged on and that all users are using as much CPU as possible at a given moment.  Under the Basic plan the approximate
    minimum would be .25 vCPU.
    2. You cannot choose the specific number of cores and memory.  What you can do is choose the Azure RemoteApp billing plan, which affects the user density of each VM as described above.  If you need a lower density than Standard you

  • Azure RemoteApp Profile Storage

    I've been a terminal services/remoteapp guy for years (started way back with NT 4.0 TS Edition and Citrix Metaframe 1.8).   I'm liking the idea of Azure RemoteApp, but there are MANY things about using remoteapp that I don't quite see here.
    1.  Profile storage.   How can I create a roaming profile or use Folder Redirection or something similar for an Azure RemoteApp collection?
    2.  Admin rights.   How can I get administrative rights to my RemoteApp servers so I can troubleshoot applications such that I can give users rights to what they need to run the apps?
    3.  How do I update the template without going through the whole upload process again?
    I think there is serious potential with Azure RemoteApp, but until these things are worked out, I don't see how it's going to be a production-ready system.   Ideas?

    In regards to your questions;
    1. You cannot do roaming profiles or folder redirection in Azure RemoteApp. Azure RemoteApp uses User Profile Disk (UPD) to store persistent user data in a single vhdx file that is mounted under C:\Users\<username> at logon. This is similar to User
    Profile Disks in an on premises RDS or VDI solution.
    2. That depends. If you are using a Cloud Deployment, provisioned RDSH servers end up in a workgroup fully controlled by Azure. You cannot get admin privileges on those RDSH servers. If you are using the Hybrid Deployment, provisioned RDSH servers end up
    as member servers of your on premises domain, meaning you are fully in control also allowing you to configure things like GPO, login scripts etc. and obviously in this case you are admin.
    3. Agree on this, however, currently that functionality is currently not there. This is a feature that has been asked for a lot and hopefully we'll see this being added in a future release.
    Also, there is a Azure RemoteApp feedback page which allows you to provide new ideas or vote for excising ones. This feedback page is actively monitored by the product team, so I would advise you to take look and participate to help improve Azure RemoteApp.

    Hi Yoshihiro,
    If you are referring to RDS CAL, the answer is yes, you can build a template
    without having an RDS CAL.  For on-premises you would still need rights to install Windows Server as a guest, but to build the template you do not need an RDS CAL because this use is for administrative purposes. 
    In the case of building the image on an Azure Virtual Machine you do not need Windows Server license since that is included in the pricing for the Virtual Machine.  As mentioned above you do not need an RDS CAL since you are only building a template
    image which is administrative use.
    As always please review the appropriate documents that apply to your situation such as the Online Service Terms (OST), Product Use Rights (PUR), license agreement(s), etc. for precise details.

    Step 1. Create Windows Server 2012 R2 on Hyper-V host for template image of Azure RemoteApp.
    Step 2. login to Windows Server 2012 R2.
    Step 3. execute CMD "change user /install".
    Step 4. install Adobe Reader XI.
    Step 5. execute CMD "change user /execute".
    Step 6. launch Adboe Reader XI, and check it work fine.
    Step 7. execute CMD "sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown"
    Step 8. create new VHD file from Windows Server 2012 R2's VHD by copy.
    Step 9. upload new VHD file to Azure RemoteApp template image.
    Step 10. update Azure RempoteApp collection by new template image.
    Step 11. launch Adobe Reader XI on Azure RemoteApp client.
    Step 12. ERROR.

    Today, Jan 14, 2015's upload time is over 2 hours.
    Environment
      Region : Japan West.
      Vhd size: 43 GB
      Upload Tool: Upload-AzureRemoteAppTemplateImage.ps1
    Result
      Elapsed time for the operation= 00:32:38
      Elapsed time ffor upload = 01:48:29
      Traffice rate = 58 Mbps

    2. You can reduce the upload time by using faster Internet connection that is as close as possible to Azure Japan West facility, with low latency and no packet loss.  Under excellent conditions (high bandwidth link, low latency, no loss) you should
    be able to get several hundred Mbps throughput.

    MOBILE's bandwidth is under 1 Mbps like 256kbps, 128kbps.
    And Some mobile network have a total network usage limit like 3GB/Month, 1GB/3day.
    And More low price plan of mobile have more small limit like 2GB/Month, 1GB/Month.  
    The "Remote Desktop Connection" Application in windows destkop have "Exprience" Option for save bandwidth,
    like "Font smoothing", "Visual styles", etc.

    Hi Yoshihiro,
    There is no option in the Azure RemoteApp client to manually reduce bandwidth consumption.  What you could do is use a third-party bandwidth limiting program.  For example, when you are connected via mobile wireless you could set it to limit max
    bandwidth to 768Kbps, and when you are connected to non-metered connection set it to unlimited.
    In your template image you could use group policy settings to potentially reduce bandwidth usage to a limited degree, but these settings would affect all users.  Please take a look under Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\
    Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Service Environment.  You should test each option in order to see if there is any benefit.
    Please note that some options will not have any effect.  For example, color depth will always be 32-bit, so there is no point in configuring it to limit to a lower value.
    Also you can force certain options using custom rdp properties on the collection using Azure PowerShell, however, the net effect on bandwidth consumption of these options is limited.  Again, this would apply to all users of the collection.
    In the pre-RDP 8.0 days there were certain options that could make a big difference under the right circumstances.  For instance, if you were only using a basic data-entry application you could set the color depth to 8-bit and connect at relatively
    low resolution such as 1024x768 or 800x600 and the bandwidth consumption would be very low.
    You can take certain manual steps to reduce bandwidth if you want.  Things like reduce the local resolution of your PC screen, only have single monitor, do not use any rich content in your session, do not use any audio, do not transfer files, etc.

    Some servers are filtering recieved ip addresses for security reason.

    Hi Yoshihiro,
    Currently there is no capability to specify that a fixed public IP be used for Azure RemoteApp.  From experience I can tell you that the public ip for each app collection stays the same until you Update the template.  This makes sense since when
    you perform an update (regardless of if the template vhd has actually changed) the collection is provisioned again.
    Please note there is no official statement from Microsoft that the global IP address used for a collection will remain the same in between updates.
    I recommend you suggest this on the
    Azure RemoteApp feedback forum.  I would like to have this feature as well.

    point 1: Fix action.
      When the user detect a malware, There are some reasons,
      like viewing a malicious web site, like using the vulnerable applications.
      The User must fix his action in Azure RemoteApp session.
      "Hey, the reason is that you open this web site, Don't open this web site"
    point 2: Fix server.
      When the user detect a malware, ITpro of Azure RemoteApp fix the current Azure Virtual Machine of Azure RemoteApp.
      There may be infected with other malwares.
      ITpro need to fix the current Azure Virtual Machine of Azure RemoteApp before infecting other users.
      "Hey, This Azure RemoteApp collection will update with the template image after ten minutes."
    point 3: Fix damage.
      When the user detect a malware, ITpro of Azure RemoteApp research the damage of all system,
      like whether or not sent the infected email to other persons by other malware,
      like whether or not broken other related systems by other malwares.

    The RMS connector communicates with Azure RMS by invoking REST service, so it doesn't need to be exposed to internet, but it must be able to reach internet. Based on the screenshot
    information, it sounds that you haven't verified your domain in Office 365. For example, your AD users have UPN with suffix @consotos.com, the domain name contoso.com should be added into Domains of your Office 365 tenant, and verify it. This is to keep the
    consistency of your users' on-premises credential and online credential, otherwise, your users will by synced to Office 365 with the default domain "tenantname.onmicrosoft.com", such as the current situation. In fact it has been already mentioned

    We are an ISV looking to deploy some of our applications using RemoteApp. Many of our applications interact with Excel and we were wondering if we could use SPLA licensing with RemoteApp instead of requiring our users to use Office 365 subscriptions.

    Yes, you can license Office to your Azure RemoteApp users via SPLA, subject to the terms of your Service Provider License Agreement and the Service Provider Use Rights (SPUR) document.  Azure is considered a Data Center Provider, and Office Professional
    Plus 2013 and Office Standard 2013 both have "Eligible for Software Services on Data Center Providers’ Servers:
