Azure: Updating a label on a VM

I have a need to update VM labels; not Cloud Service labels. Right now the VM label is blank and I cannot find how to update this field from PowerShell. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried this with "NewImageLabel"
Save-AzureVMImage
-ServiceName MyService
-Name MyVM
-NewImageName MyBaseImage
-NewImageLabel MyBaseVM

    First off, note that this question should have been posted in the Swing section.
    GUI events run in a separate thread (the AWT / Event Dispatch Thread) than your program.
    You should be invoking AWT/Swing events via SwingUtilities.invokeLater().
    If for whatever reason you want to have the program thread wait for the event to process
    you can use invokeAndWait().

  • Updating a Label content from code behind using dispatcher

    hi,
    I am trying to update a label's content from code behind.
    This part of the code is running in background worker. I wrote the following code to update a label's content:
    volumecontrol.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action(() =>
    volumecontrol.Content = volumeupdate;
     i tried using both BeginInvoke and Invoke but the application exits with the error:
    System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in WindowsBase.dll
    Using Invoke works when updating the UI from another thread but it not working in this case:
    Pls help.
    Thanks,
    Shaleen
    TheHexLord

    When you do that new action stuff you're capturing variables.
    If that means you grab a control's value across from outside the {} then you're trying to capture the variable on the background thread.  If that's some sort of control you're messing with then that will cause a problem as they have thread affinity.
    Because you don't want to be blocking the UI thread at all you should use BeginInvoke rather than Invoke.
    To explain this clearly - and provide a way you could use to explore what's going on and learn  - we need a separate thread which can be done using Task.Factory.StartNew.
    This bit of code allows you to put code onto a background thread:
    Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    // On a separate thread to the UI here
    Create a new solution, add a textBlock and Button:
    <StackPanel>
    <TextBlock Name="tb"/>
    <Button Name="btn" Click="btn_Click">Change the text</Button>
    </StackPanel>
    Then in the button click you can play around with what's going on.
    Just to be clear.
    That textblock is a control and it is created on the UI thread.
    To get from that task thread back to the UI thread you should use Dispatcher.BeginInvoke.  With no control name.
    Let's start with a broken piece of code:
    private void btn_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    string thingummy = tb.Text + "Banana";
    Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action(() => { tb.Text = thingummy; }));
    When you click the button it'll error because when you access tb.Text there you do so on a background thread and tb has thread affinity.
    This, however, will work OK.
    Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action(() => { tb.Text = tb.Text + "Banana"; }));
    That's OK because the Action runs on the UI thread where tb was created and all is good.
    Anonymous methods and actions capture variables ( you can google that for more info ).
    If you wanted to use a variable which was created on the background thread you can set it here:
    Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    string thingummy = "banana";
    Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action(() => { tb.Text = thingummy; }));
    or here
    string thingummy = "banana";
    Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(new Action(() => { tb.Text = thingummy; }));
    They both work.
    They are not accessing properties of a UI control because you're just setting the variable to a string.
    All of which means you could have a variable in your code which is set to volume or whatever that is from your control  ON THE UI THREAD and then modify that variable on the background thread.  Variables do not have thread affinity.  A
    double, string or whatever isn't a control.
    And this approach might well be more convenient.
    Hope that helps.

  • Font-Update of  Labels with UI-Manager doesn't seem to work. PLZ help.

    Hi, i placed serveral JLabel's on a JFrame. (in many Jpanels)
    in a Dialog I enabled the user to select Fonts, Styles and Sizes.
    I used
    UIManager.put("Label.font",selectedFonts[0]);
    SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(MainFrame);
    MainFrame.repaint();to update the default-font.
    This works fine for labels in a JDialog which is completly recreated after changing the font.
    But for labels that are still visible and aren't recreated, this action seems to have no effect to the labels.
    I stored the selected fonts and after a restart of the prog it look like it should, but I want to change it at runtime.
    I tried to set the font-sizes by hand, which caused the programm to hang-up.
    The same result was caused by using updateComponentTreeUI on partial UITree's.
    Calling setVisible(false ); and setVisible(true ); don't work either.
    Is there a way, to update the labels without removing and recreating??
    Tanks a lot in advance for any help.
    Urmech
    PS.: Please excuse my bad english.

    Hmm, I would have expected it to work exactly like you are doing it. Doing some experiments I found that the font is taken only on the very first change after startup. The only difference between the first and any following font settings (at least in my test setup) was that on start the type of the old font is a FontUIResource (as it is set by the UIDelegate on startup) whereas at the second it's a Font.
    so, instead of
    UIManager.put("Label.font", selectedFont[0])
    doing a
    UIManager.put("Label.font", new FontUIResource(selectedFont[0])
    does the trick, though I don't understand it fully.

  • Why does TS Operator Interface Resource file not update panel labels correctly?

    There seems to be a problem with TS1.0.2 with the retrieval of Resource strings. If there are other INI files in the Components\User\Language\English directory other than the "OperatorInterfaceStrings.ini" file, the default operator interface seems to randomly use other files when attempting to get the resource strings to update my panel labels. The problem occured when I created a copy of the original "copy*.ini" file and my OI kept using the text values from the old file even after closing the OI and restarting it. Would like to know why.

    Hi Todd,
    In the \User\Language\English directory should be a file called CustomStrings.ini.
    Put your additional Resource strings in this file and keep your default ini files unaltered in the \NI\.. folder.
    Follow the structure as per the default inis and as per the user manual.
    This should sort your problem out.

  • Updated Ratings, Labels and Flags in LR3?

    I understand in LR2 that ratings and labels are global -- apply them in any folder or collection and they will appear everywhere and that flags are local -- apply them to a folder or collection and they will only appear in that local folder or collection.
    Is this still true in LR3?  Has there been an update so that individual photos in specific collections can have can have their own specific stars separate from the original star in their original folder?

    Flags remain local!
    No to your other question.

  • Update button label when locale changes, in AS3

    What I'm trying to do is pretty do what this does:
    <s:Button label="{resourceManager.getString('Strings', 'some_resource')}"/>
    but in ActionScript code. I have a function to add a new tab button to a layout which takes a string and just trying to set the label to the same string doesn't work obviously. So what I need is a way to set the button label to some bindable value that will update whenever the locale changes, like it does automatically when doing it in MXML.

    Nevermind, I figured it out. For those of you that are curious about the solution I found it's in the code below. The only way I could figure out how to get it working is by declaring a local function right after creating a button and attaching it as a "change" event handler to the resourceManager.
    public function addTab(resourceName:String):uint
         var newTab:Button = new Button();
         newTab.label = resourceManager.getString('Strings', resourceName);
         newTab.setStyle("skinClass", Skins.Buttons.TabButton);
         // Create a local function that will update the button label whenever the locale changes
         var localeChangeHandler:Function =
              function (e:Event):void
                   newTab.label = resourceManager.getString('Strings', resourceName);
         resourceManager.addEventListener("change", localeChangeHandler);

  • Update Indicator label during Run time

    Hi all,
    This is the situation, i have an Indicator to display Acceleration, Velocity & Displacement. I am using it a local variable in the 2 case structures.
    Here is what i want to achieve:
    I want to update the Indicator label for the respective Radio Button control. If the click on Acceration button, the label should be updated to Acceleration during Run time. Correspondingly for Velocity and Displacement button.
    Can anyone help me how to go about this.
    Excuse me if i am not clear about anything.
    Thanks in advance

    Generally you should not change the label of a control, because this is often how the control is referred to from elsewhere in the program and it causes confusion.
    Instead there is a Caption property. If you right click the control and select Visible Items->Caption, the label is hidden and the caption is displayed instead (with the same text).
    In your block diagram, right click on the chart terminal and select Create->Property Node->Caption->Text. This creates a property node for the caption property. You will need to click on it to change it to 'Write' rather than 'Read' - you can then wire whatever text string you like and it will update on the front panel.

  • Opening successive scripts doesn't update tab label

    If you open different scripts, one after the other, using Ctrl+O, the label on the tab doesn't update., e.g.
    * Ctrl+O and select file1.sql
    (tab on worksheet says "file1.sql")
    * Ctrl+O and select file2.sql
    (tab on worksheet STILL says "file1.sql")
    * Ctrl+O and select file3.sql
    (tab on worksheet NOW says "file2.sql")
    .. it's always one label behind.
    v 1.1.3.2766

    I find that Ctrl-O doesn't work at all.
    You can open the first script with ctrl-o, but subsequent attempts don't even open a file. Both tab and file contents remain the same. It also doesn't seem to remember the last directory used,
    COntrast with using the Open button on the toolbar. This opens each new script in a new tab - which is the intended behaviour.

  • Firefox will not update plugins labeled in red as "potentially vulnerable plugins". Need help.

    Firefox will not update three plugins appearing below the
    statement in red : " vulnerable plugins". I tried three times, and
    all I got was other pages with lots of ads. I need help. Thanks.

    Some plugins may need to be removed using the Control Panel, or Windows Explorer, because they are managed by other software or dropped in nonstandard folders. Can you list the three plugins so people can give specific advice on them?
    For the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin you might need to update RealPlayer or use its options dialog to turn off the recording/downloading feature in order to remove this one.

  • How to update enum labels when enum is inside an array of clusters?

    Hello LabVIEW gurus,
    I'm stuck with a design aspect, and was wondering if you could share some ideas as to how to get past it: I would like to fill a table with strings, and then populate an enum inside an array with the string values.
    For purposes of discussion I'll break the steps into two actions, where one takes place before the second (sequential, not in parallel)
    Action one - The user will be first asked to populate a table with "strings". The table would look like,
    row0 - "string0"
    row1 - "string1"
    row2 - "string2"
    and so on....
    Action two - When ever the user "selects action two" I would like to populate an ENUM inside a cluster with values from "Action one". In other words, I'm trying to dynamically write enum values.
    The cluster has several objects such as boolean controls, string controls, AND AN ENUM control (see attached .png)
    I have tried using Ring, and enums at this point, and have not been successful at it. I read somewhere that because the enum/ring is inside a cluster, and the cluster inside an array, that what I'm trying to do is simply not possible. If that's the case, can you please throw ideas my ideas my way? :-)
    In advance, thank you very much.
    Cheers,

    Is this in the full development environment?  Is the cluster (that I assume is a type def) reserved for running at the time?  Because what you described is totally do able IF you are not in an EXE, and this is intended for making an enum to be used elsewhere.  Otherwise this won't work the way you want.  An enum must have it's type defined at run time.  Through scripting you can make the cluster or the enum, or edit ones that already exists (or use one as a template) but as soon as you are in an EXE you have no scripting, and even if you did your code can't compile, so you can't use the new controls even if you could make them.
    But if you are looking for a way for a user to enter strings into a table, and then update a drop down with those options that is possible using the combo box which keeps track of the string selected, or a ring control which keeps track of the index (or value) associated with the selected item.
    You gave lots of information, but not the important bits like how this will be used.

    You are updating the label value when (index == -1), let change into (index<=0).
    like below
    // this should cause a JComboBox to paint the Label instead of the
                // check box + label combination
                if (index <= 0) {
                    Vector v = new Vector();
                    v = getSelectedObjects();
                    String val = generateString();
                    JLabel label = new JLabel(val);
                    if (iconLabel.getIcon() != null) {
                        label.setIcon(iconLabel.getIcon());
                    System.out.println("label");
                    return label;
                }
