Hi,
Is anyone can help me how to use oracle sqlplus in a LAN.
We have 5 pcs in our home network and one of my friend want to use oracle from his pc where i got installed oracle in my computer.Is there anyway he can access to my installed sqlplus from his computer.Please help me for that.

You could do any of the following.
1. Using iSqlplus. Make sure that the service is started on the server. Open a browser window on
your friend's machine and type the following in the address box.
http://hostname:port/isqlplus/
Where hostname is the name of your server. You could also specify the IP address instead of the host name. Coming to the case of port, look for a file 'isqlplus.ini' on your server. In that, you should see an entry like:
HTTP_PORT=5560
Copy this port number and replace the port portion of the URL.
2. Install Sql*Plus client software on your friend's PC. Configure the 'tnsnames.ora' file.
You should then be all set to use Sql*Plus.

I have two forests with a transitive on-way trust between them: PROD -> TEST (test trusts PROD). I had previously had kerberos authentication working with winrm from PROD to machines in TEST. I have verified the trust is healthy, I also verified users
in TEST can use WINRM with kerberos just fine. Users from PROD cannot connect via kerberos to machines in TEST with winrm.
I have verified the service has registered the appropriate SPNs. I ran dcdiag against all my PROD and TEST domain controllers and didn't find anything that would prevent kerberos from happening. I even tried disabling the firewall entirely on my TEST dcs
but that didn't gain me anything.
I've enabled kerberos logging but only see the expected errors such as it couldn't find a PROD SPN for the machine, which it shouldn't from what I understand, it should go to the TEST domain and find the SPN from there.
I'm really out of next steps before I call PSS and hope someone here has run into this and could provide me some next steps.

I'm a little unclear about which SPNs you were looking for, in which case could you confirm you were checking that on the computer object belonging to the actual destination host it has the following SPNs registered?
WSMAN/<NetBIOS name>
WSMAN/<FQDN>
If you were actually trying to use WinRM to connect to the remote forest's domain controllers, then what you said makes sense, but I was caught between assuming this was the case or you meant another member server in that remote forest.
Also, from the client trying to connect to this remote server, are you able to telnet to port 5985? (If you've used something other than the default, try that port)
If you can't, then you've got something else like a firewall (be that the Windows firewall on the destination or a hardware firewall somewhere in between) blocking you at the port level, or the listener on the remote box just isn't working as expected. I
just replied to your other winrm post with steps for checking the latter, so I won't repeat myself here.
If you can telnet to it and the SPNs exist, then you might be up against something called selective authentication which has to do with how the trust was defined. You can have a read of
this to learn a bit more about selective trusts and whether or not it's affecting you.

hi have done as you said plug ethernet straight into computer and into back of router,and worked straight off,i had the the powerline on extention when imac was up stairs,when i had computer down stairs it still would not work with powerlines even on main wall sockets,so they are getting binned,looks like i will have to move router upstairs,just wondering if i got extention wire from back of openreach box to router upstairs```,would it be ok,,the openreach box is next to my only phone socket in house,which is in back kitchen..any advice would be great,

Hi,
He only have to do is to install oracle client on his pc.
The listener should be started on the oracle database server. Then client need to set the correct tnsnames.ora.
SQL plus can be used if above ready.

JDeveloper Oracle XE The Network Adapter could not establish the connectio

I installed JDeveloper 10.1.2 and oracle express on Fedora.
Now I cannot create a database connection from jdeveloper using the connection navigator
The hostname, port etc is correct.
Sqlplus and everything else regarding the database on the command line works fine.
Did I miss something ?
Maybe an environment setting ?
I did the following installation (all on the same host):
Java runtime
JDeveloper
XE Database
Testing a connection I used the Oracele Database Express Edition 2 Day PLus Java Developer Guide.
Is this documentation complete ?
Can someone also explain to me what the error message
Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection EXACTLY means ??
Where does it go wrong ?
Is there a checklist for thsi kind of thin-java connection problems ?

There is a note on XE that the use of oracle.jdbc.driver.* classes is deprecated but still supported.

Can not create a new portal using Oracle and the Administration tools.

Using the Personalization Server admin tool. My database is Oracle 8.0.5
(NT). I used the db/oracle/create* scripts to the create the necessary
database tables. I was able to successfully create users, groups, and
portlets, but when I try to create a Portal I'm getting the following

When using Oracle, you must run the sql scripts provided. The
insert-pzsamples-oracle.sql script is included in the create-p13n-oracle.sql
scripts. This script includes inserting information into the tables that are
required for creating new portlets. In particular, inserts to the
WLCS_SCHEMA table and inserts to the Meta Data tables (*MD*) are required.

Better keep on using Oracle or the new PostgreSQL?

I hope this is the right Oracle Forum for my question.
In the the company I work in, we've been using Oracle for many years. For a new project the company would like to use the open source PostgreSQL (that I've never used it).
For going on using Oracle, we were asked to give a list of reasons for not using PostgreSQL
Can you help me to gather a few good reasons for not changing DB and keep on using Oracle? Is there some particular bug or other things in PostgreSQL (security, pl/sql, ...) for which it would be better using Oracle?

Consider what happens N years down the road, when you've discovered postgres doesn't quite scale as well, all the original developers are gone and all you can find is newbie graduates as maintenance programmers, who quickly leave for more interesting pastures in the paradigm of the day. You've saved X dollars in licensing fees, but are now in a hole where you have to develop it all over again and spend the fees anyways, and pay to keep the old one limping along for the years to replace it - or worse, just be stuck in a deteriorating situation forever.
What I've seen even more often is there are COTS packages available that are an order of magnitude cheaper than developing with either. Is there a business case for the particular bespoke development? Does it need to be on the bleeding edge? Is the business willing to give all needed support, financial, logistical, cheerleading and patience?
That said, if it is a small project that could easily be converted to another engine, the experience alone may be worthwhile.

Using Oracle on the z/OS mainframe

All of my work so far with Oracle has been through the use of the SQL*Plus utility running on a z/OS V1R9 mainframe (we will be updating to V1R11 this year). I wanted to expand my understanding of Oracle a bit, and see how I can incorporate it into many of our daily processes. So, I contacted our Oracle DBA team and asked what my options are for writing programs that directly interact with Oracle.
The response I received was:
You should be aware that Oracle will no longer be developing on the mainframe - z/OS - for their product. Therefore, if you are trying to do self-training/learning, you probably should avoid the mainframe. With that said, I would highly suggest you use the unix environments for your learning.
Since I have no access to any unix environments other than the z/OS Unix System Services (USS) partition, am I going to have to stop my self-training? Is their response accurate?

You might want to consider creating your own learning environment.
If you have access to a PC running Windows or Linux you can install Oracle 10g XE easily:

Moving to 11g would involve a more complex install, but using virtualization such as VirtualBox (http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/) allows you to experiment without adversely impacting your system.
Finally, you could sign up for a free account on the Oracle-hosted Application Express demo environment (http://apex.oracle.com), which can be accessed using only a web browser, giving access to Oracle's Application Express development tool and an 11g database via the SQL Workshop.

Replace remote_sid with your SID of the database that lies on another computer as well as Host=Your remote ip address or hostname.

Error message when using Photoshop over the network

I am currently working with Apple Aperture. My library is on my computer and references files that are saved over a network on a hard drive connected to another computer. I open an image that is within Aperture having set my primary editor as Photoshop. This creates an automatic duplicate of the image within Aperture so that any changes I make in Photoshop will be a second image and will not affect the original. Normally what is supposed to happen is that once I have made my change in Photoshop, I hit Apple+S to save and then it will update within Aperture. However, when I hit to save, I get the following error message:
Could not save "file.tiff" because the file is already in use or was left open.
I know that on my computer and the other computer I connect to that is definitely not open. Not even in Finder. I tried closing Aperture and then saving and I still get the error message. I am not sure what is going on and why I can't save it. Any ideas?

Try to save in different location and different format not in tiff like PSD. close the photoshop and repon once and open PSD file and save as into tiff in different location.

Use spotlight on the network

I would like to configure spotlight indexing network drives (smb, afp).
How can I do this ?

Use this command :-
sudo mdutil -i on
If after indexing it still does not work, drag a drop the folder from the mounted volume from finder and plonk it in the terminal window after the command - eg. sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/Podcasts. Mounted drives have a little black arrow next to them in the finder sidebar.
You can check to see if finder is indexing by clicking on the spotlight icon in the menubar - top right.

Using Numbers on the network.

Is there any way to set a warning when someone tries to open a file that is already in use by another person?
There are about 80 people in the office, so we cannot verbally double check with any efficiency that there are no copies of a Numbers file open when we want to open a file.
There have been cases where people's data have been overwritten because of this problem. We would rather stick with Numbers because of the nice looking reports, but if this problem continues we may migrate to Excel.

Hint: It has something to do with the user. I created a new user and have no problems. But I'd like to fix my old user. It took about a week to customize all my Adobe apps, browsers, email clients, etc. Don't look forward to starting over on that.

Can i extend the range of an airport extreme with another airport extreme and use the ports on the airport extreme i used to extend the network?

That seems like a complicated question.
I have a Time Capsule (which the HD *****, but that is matter for another discussion) and want to extend the range with an Airport Extreme because I have 2 devices in one room that do not do wireless but have Ethernet ports.
The room has iffy WiFy connectivity too.
I want to know if the 3 ports on the Airport Extreme still work after configuring it as an extender rather than a router.

The thing is that I want to know if I can put the Airport Extreme at the edge of the room where the existing Base does not reach.
This will not work.
Remember, an "extending" AirPort can only extend the quality of wireless signal that it receives. For that reason, it must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal in order to work effectively.
For example, let's say that your "main" router was on one end of the house and you want to extend the signal to reach the other end of the house. In this case, you would locate the "extending" AirPort about half way between the main router and the other side of the house.

When using finder over the network, refresh problems

When using finder, it keeps randomly refreshing and making duplicates of a particular folder. Once you go in and out its fine. Is there a fix for this? Have already removed finder prefs. Server that it is through is an xServe

Has anybody used Oracle BPM for network management projects with millions of events?
Can Oracle BPM handle it?

Please follow this step may this solve your problem.
please modify any thing in process "ExpenseReporting" for example any transition or any activity to place some where else or any other modification and then save that process. Then clean the project and build and deploy it.
if this also not solve the problem then export that project to and import it again in your workspace (Create new workspace or change the project name in same workspace ) and then again clean, build and deploy the application then test in work space.
