Background color on Safari
I need to have a clear (tranparent) background so that the background image shows through. Everything I read says the default background color is transparent (which I thought). All is fine on IE and Firefox. However, on Safari the background is white. Adding background-color: transparent; does not help either, it stays white. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Toby
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Open System Preferences via the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen. Go to "Universal Access">Seeing. There, change the display setting from "black on white" to "white on black". This affects all applications and panels. There, you can also "increase the contrast" to suit your viewing requirements.

Top Sites background color.
How do you change the background color on Safari top sites, i dislike the new grey color, want to change it back to black?
Hi alan-43,
I can tell you that they do read every feedback comment. So, even if you did not hear back, I think it's kind of like voting....that one additional comment on the same topic just might be the one that tips the balance and gets the thing changed.
I know a lot of people are not happy with the gray and white, the thin fonts, the overall look of iOS 7, and the inabiity to change it. Hopefully they are working on ways to allow users to do a little more customization. One size simply doesn't fit all....

Change Safari background color
Hello everyone,
I've some trouble with my eyes and therefor I like to change the backgroud color of the browsing tabs. I use Firefox now but is this also possible with Safari?
Thank you!Hi,
If you still need help with this...
Not sure if Safari can be modified to change the background color of tabs but open System Preferences then select Universal Access.
Select the Seeing tab. Under Display select: *White on black*
You can use the slider for contrast.
Maybe that will help.

Viewing Safari webpages in different background colors
Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a way to change the color I view safari webpages, i.e. if I could view the background color of a webpage in yellow rather than white?
Many thanks.Sure as I tell you that you can't, someone will tell you how.
But to my knowledge, that isn't doable, as Safari reads the HTML of the page in question. If it doesn't say "yellow" in the page's coding...it won't be yellow.

Background color does not show in a design mode preview
Hi,
I installed Macromedia studio 8 a couple of days ago, and
started using Dreamweaver 8 with a "Missing Manual" book. I'm on
first chapter and following tutorial. It says to change a
background color to blue, and I did that. But this change was not
reflected in a design mode preview. I checked the code and it's
there. I viewed in an IE6, and it was there. My coworker installed
an evaluation version on his pc and it worked fine. I guess it's my
pc that has problem. I had IE7 and VS2005 on the pc when I
installed Macromedia 8. Due to help crash, I uninstalled IE7. It
did not solve the problem, so I uninstalled VS2005 and related
programs, and it did not solve the problem. I uninstalled and
reinstalled Dreamweaver 8 a couple of times, and it did not help.
Does anyone out there who have similar experiences, please share it
with me? I post this here before redo my pc. Thanks.<shrug>
Without seeing code, it would be impossible to guess....

Cell background colors are not showing in preview - help? - DW4
Hi,
I created a horizontal table for my menu bar, and gave each cell a different color by creating a separate class for each with background image - image is a block of color created in Photoshop. In design mode they look they way I want, but in preview (Safari) the colors don't show up at all - the whole area is gray, and all I see is the text for each cell. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Alternatively, is there a better way I can set this up to have different colors for each button?
Thank you!Here is the HTML code, and the CSS code for the menu bar follows:
ul.MenuBarHorizontal
></style><style type="text/css"><!body { background-color: #FFF; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}-->

Spry MenuBar Test in IE (background color check)
This is a part two to a previous post. I have a Spry menu bar in my clients app and right now my issue is that the menu bar when you rollover over to view the drop down (in this case a drop up since the menu is above the main menu) should display a menu with a background color of #887242 which in Firefox and Safari it does, but in IE (any version) it instead inherits the color of the main nav bar which is #483828. Originally the background was all white in IE and then I went to the CSS and found this:
@media screen, projection
ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
display: inline;
f\loat: left;
background-color: #FFF;
So I changed #FFF to #483828 and that took care of the menu bar but applied the color to both the menu bar and drop down. I want the drop down to be a different background color as mentioned previously so after a little looking around I'm trying this:
@media screen, projection
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
display: inline;
f\loat: left;
background-color: #887242;
underneath that. Since I'm on Mac, I can't eee the drop down on BrowserLab or BrowserShots so can anyone on a PC please check briefly this URL for me to tell me if the drop down is showing the proper background color and if not, is there a fix?
http://www.designmg.com/new//index3.htmlOK, I tried it with my PC on both Firefox and IE8. With Firefox the menu and submenu text is the orange color but changes to white on hover. Also on hover the drop up submenu appears and the background is the beige color. With IE8 the menu text is italic (somewhat slanted), the text turns white on hover but the background does not appear. Instead, a beige vertical line appears to the right of the drop up submenu (maybe 5 px wide).
Hope that helps. Sorry I can't offer any suggestions - I'm pretty new at this and I'm working my own issues out with IE. Good luck and Happy New Year

I'm a newbie just working on the Adobe Dreamweaver tutorial.
It instructs me to go to modify>page properties> click on the
background color box and select black (#000000). I did this and the
background color is still without color. When I open the page in
Safari, the black color is there in the background. It also is in
the code.....
I also tried this before only with a large background image.
It would not appear on the page in Dreamweaver but was in the code
and showed up when I opened it in Safari. Please advise. Thanks so
much!!
TextThis page will definitely be black in DW. Are you sure you
are looking at
the right page? Do you have styles enabled (VIEW | Style
Rendering >
Display Styles)?

Textarea ... background-color:transparent causing problem in IE7
hello;
when I use <textarea style="background-color:transparent " > IE7 does not accept input ... other browsers work fine;
is there a way to get a transparent background for a textarea such that the textarea functions correctly in IE7 ( I haven't tested it in IE8 )?
thanks,
ShannonWhat happens if you remove the background tag altogether?
I do this with my overflow css for text boxes and it leaves them transparent (as in: showing the page background) in Firefox, Safari Opera and IE 5, 6, 7 and 8. -
Mail background color?... and email grouping
Hi..
Is it possible to change the background color in Mail to something other than white? if so , how??...and are their any other (other than fonts) way to improve the "look" of Mail?
also...
is there a way to group emails from a specific soure or with a specific heading etc (eudora does this for example by highlighting one and hitting option/command together)..and pull then all together in your in boxes..?/
thanks in advance for your help;...
P.S. and other tricks and insights to get me away from EUDORA (which I love ) woudl be appreciated...
IMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
IMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)Although RTF with Tiger Mail is HTML, the Mail.app does not include an HTML composer/editor so includes no option to change the background color of messages but there is a work-around.
Select RTF for message composition with Mail.
Use the HTML editor/composer of choice - the Text Edit application can be used for this. Set the background color, font/font size and text color that you prefer for the document. When saving the document, select HTML for the File Format.
Open the saved document with Safari and at the menu bar, go to File and select Mail Contents of This Page.
A new Mail.app message will be launched and the Text Edit document will be copied to the new Mail.app message with the background color chosen with Text Edit.
To save the message as a template:
Create a new "On My Mac" location mailbox called "Templates" (or anything else that appeals to you more).
Save this new message created as a Draft.
Close the message.
Go to the Drafts folder.
Move the Draft message you just saved to the "Templates" mailbox.
To use a message template in Mail to create a new message:
Open the Templates mailbox containing the desired message template.
Highlight the template you want to use for the new message.
Select Message | Send Again from the menu.
Edit and send the message.
You can also use any message you previously sent as a template by copying it to your "Templates" mailbox (or using Message | Send Again directly).
To edit a template, create a new message using it, make the desired changes and the save the edited message as a template as described above while deleting the old template.
The Mail.app includes a thread feature which leaves some room for desire.
Select a mailbox and at the menu bar, go to View and select Organize by Thread. Check Mail.app Help for Threads. -
Layer Background color not support on AP Element
Hi I am new to dreamweaver. I just started learning how to
use it, and I can't figure out why when I am validating the
browser, I kept on getting a message that the layer background
color is not supported in the AP element. I looked at my code and
it seems fine. All I did was just insert the AP layer and I change
the background color. Is there something I am doing wrong?Thank you. That's telling you that layer-background-color is
NOT supported
in those browsers (in fact, it's invalid HTML, being
supported only in IE5
and earlier). You should use CSS to specify colors, not the
Property
inspector, and you will avoid such traps. In fact, in CS3,
when you use the
Property inspector, the proper CSS is written in the
stylesheet for you.

Change background color of tabs?
I use Safari on a 13" Macbook Air, after recently abandoning Chrome. I have trouble reading the tiny print on the dark gray tabs. Can I change the background color, or enlarge the print?
Hi June ...
Unfortunately, the Safari background color on tabs cannot be modified nor can the font size be increased.
Try using a different resolution on your Mac. Open System Prerferences > Displays then select Scaled.
If that doesn't work for you, you may have better luck using the Firefox browser > Download Firefox

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately this about says it all:
The scrolling text background is beige in safari and Firefox but blue in IE6.
You could try an image file of the color you want to have and see if it will be rendered any truer by IE. Be sure the file contains the sRGB color profile that most web sites use and it should render the same on all browsers except for possibly the brightness.

Background color and float problems
Hello all,
I am having a problem with the background color and the left
float for a navigation sidebar (also with the background color for
the footer). The body color is set to gray, and the main page is
centered with a white background. I set up the pages using mostly
CSS, with a few tables where they seemed necessary. I set up the
navigation side bar as a div with a green background and a left
float. The footer is set up as a div with a green background. All
text is aligned left.
When I preview in Safari, everything looks as expected.
In Firefox and IE5: The background color of the navigation
sidebar has white showing up behind the type that are not links
(e.g., mailing address and subheads). The div does not float all
the way to the left edge of the page. The background color of the
footer should be green but shows up as white. I validated the code
in DW, and it reports no problems (at least, it checked out after I
made a few corrections).
I am not that concerned about the background color for the
footer -- it is either all there (in Safari) or not there at all
(in Firefox and IE). But I would like to see if I can make it show
up. For the navigation sidebar, would putting it in a table cell
make it work correctly in Firefox and IE?
Regarding the left float issue for the nav sidebar IE5: At
the top of the page, my logo banner (it's placed in a div) shifted
to the right (in IE only). When I added a left float to the banner,
the banner lines up fine with the rest of the page, but a white
margin appears along the left side of the entire page.
None of my pages are uploaded to a web host yet. This is my
first website. I am working in DW8 on a Mac.
Thanks in advance,
Kathy (Daylilybud)Mista,
Here is my home page based on the template I sent previously.
Thanks in advance!

</html>On a quick look, I think it's a css specifity problem.
If you take the background color style out of the table and
create a style in the head of the doc
(like you did for the body), the color does show up.
You need to give the outer table an ID and create the
following style and add it just below the body
style
.maintable { background-color: #993300; }
So the top of your document looks like this:
<style type="text/css">
<!--
body {
background-color: #000000;
#maintable { background-color: #993300; }
-->
</style>
This is what the outertable line should look like:
<table id="maintable" width="700" border="0"
cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
PS: There also appears to be a syntax error with the flash
script, which may cause some issues, but
I can't help you with that sorry :-)
