Backing up IPad 2. Is all you need to do is Sync it or anything else???

I bought the IPad 2 last year and it does not have the ISO 5 I wanted to download it but I understand that you need to backup your apps and things before you can upgrade it. To back it up do you need to simply sync it or do anything else. Please help.

Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad via File > Transfer Purchases (you may also want to copy photos off the iPad as well) and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You may also want to copy off the iPad any important documents, notes, files etc e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button.

Hello, i have been sent the following email from apple, see below and asks for apple login details, is this a genuine request?
    Thank you.
You’ve taken the added security step and provided a rescue email address. Now all you need to do is verify that it belongs to you.
The rescue email address that you gave us is [email protected]
Just click the link below to verify, sign in using your Apple ID and password, then follow the prompts.
    Verify Now >
The rescue email address is dedicated to your security and allows Apple to get in touch if any account questions come up, such as the need to reset your password or change your security questions. As promised, Apple will never send any announcements or marketing messages to this address.
When using Apple products and services, you’ll still sign in with your primary email address as your Apple ID.
    It’s about protecting your identity.
Just so you know, Apple sends out an email whenever someone adds or changes a rescue email address associated with an existing Apple ID. If you received this email in error, don’t worry. It’s likely someone just mistyped their own email address when creating a new Apple ID.
If you have questions or need help, visit the Apple ID Support site.
    Thanks again,
    Apple Support

In that case, someone is trying to hi-jack your Apple ID.
You should change your password immediately.

best cover for an ipad mini and do you need a keyboard?

If the iPad is unopened, and in the original box, then it comes with the full warranty. However, if it is used, and comes with an original box, it may or may not have the original warranty; if there's still some warranty left, the original seller should have transferred the warranty to you.
    Read this:

The only way you can add to your warranty is by extending an Applecare contract.

    Kneehightoughguy,
You do not need to purchase service from a carrier unless you want to utilize the iPads connection to a 3G Network on it's own (directly).  You may choose to add a Tethering plan onto your existing cell phone plan and to have an iPad connect to the Wifi connection that the Tethered phone would offer.
Always compare your usage and your costs, as your mileage may vary.

  • Do you need Bonjour to wirelessly sync iPod?

I accidentally uninstalled Bonjour.  Right after I added some songs from my PC to my itunes library and wanted to sync my Touch 4G with iCloud to put the songs on.  But the iPod wont find my laptop and iTunes usually has my device appear whenever its asleep and I wake it up.  The wifi-sync is turned on.  Everything to allow it to synce with iCloud is turned on...Any Help?

Do you need Bonjour to wirelessly sync iPod?
Yes, and if you deleted it you may have to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it again. This will not delete your iTunes library.
To see if Bonjour is installed and enabled:
Start > My Computer (XP) (or "Computer" if you're using Windows Vista / 7) right click and select Manage.
The Computer Management window will open
In the left column select "Services and Applications"
    You should see the following
In the Services pane select Bonjour Service, right click and select Properties. Make sure the "path to executable" and "startup type" are selected as shown:
If you make any changes click OK.

  • All you need to know about Operator-Variant softwa...

There are lots of myths and misunderstandings about phone software, and you don't need to search far on this forum to see the issues that can be caused, so this post will try to answer the common questions.
What is Operator Variant / Branded phone software?
In many markets, mobile network operators dominate the sale of mobile phones, and their power in the market gives them the leverage to demand changes to the phones that they sell. Branding may include unique colour schemes for outer casings, logos on cases, default themes showing the network logo and using network colours, changes to the phone software to remove features, change features or add extra features, and in some cases different pre-installed applications.
    What features might be missing?
Common ommissions in branded phones are features for which the network makes no money. For example, some networks including Vodafone removed VOIP capabilities from their versions of the N95 in many markets because they preferred their customers to make chargeable GSM calls instead. Another good example is the American network AT&T, which removes the voice-dialling feature of phones in favour of its own network-based service which requires a monthly subscription.
You will often also find that the section of the S60 Settings Wizard that deals with settings for MMS and internet access points is also missing, making it difficult for people who switch to other networks to reconfigure their phones for the new provider.
    Who changes the software?
You often see people saying that "(operator name) changes the software...", but this isn't strictly true - your operator doesn't open every box and change the software before selling you the phone, they provide a list of their required modifications to the phone manufacturer before they accept to place any orders, and the modified (or branded) software is then presented back to the network for approval, after which orders are placed - the phone leaves the factory in its branded state, and in many cases in a SIM-locked state.
    Why can't I update?
The network holds intellectual rights to the branded software, and just as they approve the changes in the initial version before they begin to sell any particular model, they also exercise the right to approve software updates before the manufacturer can release them. This often causes delays to software releases, and can even prevent software releases. For example, our old friends the Orange and T-mobile groups hit N95 owners by refusing to approve v20 for their branded versions at a time when N-Gage gaming was being relaunched, meaning that N95 users couldn't meet the minimum software requirements to run N-Gage software.
It is common for networks to stop approving updates after they stop selling a particular model, as they no longer see any profit in supporting the handset any more. Some networks, and any customers of the Hutchinson 3G group around the world will testify to this, seldom approve any updates at all. If you have a problem related to software and call your network for support, expect to be told that the problem is a delay on the part of the manufacturer, but this common excuse is simply untrue - the manufacturer can only release updates for branded phones when it receives network approval.
Why does branded software cause so many problems?
This one you'll never get an official answer to, because the phone manufacturers and mobile networks walk a fine line in their professional relationships, but my educated guess is that the manufacturer doesn't extensively test modified operator-variant software because since the network needs to give approval, it is assumed they will test that the changes meet their requirements and work correctly. The network likewise doesn't fully test the software because it assumes that the manufacturer has done it - classic lack of communication.
Can I remove branding and install the standard Nokia software?
Strictly speaking, No. There are plenty of people on the internet ready to tell you how to do it and provide software to help, but anything you do yourself is an unauthorised change that will invalidate the warranty. You risk causing additional damage to an expensive phone and losing support to repair it.
It is known that you can have this officially changed by a Nokia service point or Flagship store, provided that any SIM-lock has already been officially removed by the network, and in some cases that the network provides written consent for this change; the phone would be changed to a generic product code, the software reflashed, and if completed properly, a new product information label will be put in the battery compartment reflecting the change. However, we also know from this forum that not all service points offer this service, and in some countries the local Nokia head office does not permit it.
It's my phone, I bought it, I own it, I can do as I please!
Yes, and no. Network operators and retailers are guilty of not warning customers that their product is a modified version rather than an original version, but at the end of the day you have paid for and accepted a branded phone. In order to benefit from the support of the device warranty, any work has to be carried out by an authorised person, just like any other product from calculators to cars.
Edit: one of my trademark typos corrected.

then select the cube you want.
    then specify:

  • All you need to set up BBC iplayer on the N97.

    Hi Folks
I have finally solved the issue of setting you the BBC iplayer so it asks you how you would like to connect when you run the application rather then it always by default connecting to the service provider in my case (orange).
Step 1 - download the newest software update for the N97 you will need
software version V 20.0.019 software version date is 13-10-09.
Step 2 - download the latest BBC iplayer version this should be version 2.5.0(141).
Step 3 - from the phone go to menu then go to web once opened go to options then settings
once in settings go to general and set access point to ask when needed.
Step 4 - from menu go to Videos & TV go to option in Video and TV then settings and set network connection to ask when needed if its not already set to this.
Step 5 - from menu go to settings then connectivity then destinations then internet and set your required WIFI connection to priority 1.
Step 6 - from menu go to applications then open realplayer then settings then go to streaming settings then network and the access point in use should display your required WIFI connection e.g. mine shows my home network talktalk. If your required network is not displayed then open the access point in use and select the required WIFI connection.
Step 7 - turn your phone off and take out the battery for 2mins then turn your phone back on.
Step 8 - when the phone turns on and the phone displays select connection you should see internet underneath it should be displayed your WIFI connection. Do not select anything. Instead go to options then go to select access point and choose your service provider e.g. orange Internet.
Step 8 - once your phone is set-up and all widgets are set all you have to do to use BBC iplayer is go to options on the home screen select content to offline mode then content to online mode then open the BBC iplayer. The phone will then ask for a connection select your wifi connection and your away.
i hope the above steps help you and work as they worked for me just remember after you do
the 8 steps above you only need to repeat step 8 everytime you wish to use BBC iplayer.

    I'm with 2bad.
I didn't need to do any of that for it to work perfectly!
If you found this post helpful, please click the green KUDOS star on the left

  • 9iAS portal download--- all you need?

I'd like to play around with the Portal Dev Kit, but I've never installed any Oracle products (yes, I work here, but not as a db techy). Does the 9iAS Portal download from TechNet come with all I need, or do I need to install a development database first, then install portal? the installation requirements are a bit vague on this point.
    Thanks for your reply...

    Peter,
You should download and install a database first.
There is an install guide on OTN in the portal section that will take you through every step of the process.

  • "All you need is a single cable to set it up"

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you'll need two cables at the very least. One would be power...
I noticed it while I was reading through the blurb on the site - I'm half thinking of buying an Apple TV module. As I HATE cables, I thought that was a good selling point - I'm now wondering whether it's true.

i think you take the power cable as a given.
yes in reality you need 2 cables (power and HDMI), but as everything needs a power cable it would be foolish to think that it didn't.

  • All You Need to Know About MSAS and Voyager (Hopefully)

    Post Author: chemstoc
    CA Forum: Olap
There seems to be several problems with trying to connect Voyager to Microsoft Analysis Server Cubes.
We have struggled with this for several weeks and I hope to both get answers and document the steps that are required to make this connection work.
We run MSSQL Server 2005 on an XP machine in the development environment (Cheap!) and have had no issues connecting to the cubes with other software (Notably Targit and Excel, etc.) When we try to attach BOXI Voyager in the Productivity Pack, we cannot get the OLE connection to log in to the server.
We are not sure if it is because it is connecting to an XP machine?  Or there isn't sufficient "rights" on the XP machine?  Or BOXI requires the "ANONYMOUS" user to be setup in the security tab on the MSSQL Management console?
Any help from any of you that have ACTUALLY gotten this Voyager connection working would be tremendously appreciated.
    Cliff

please help me to open iPad again  Seem to be locked ot after holiday. Message says not backed up for 3 weeks  .I have charged it, plugged in,locked it and am in wifi zone but no response  Help?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

  • How can I lock "clear history" on my iPad Safari, so that you need a password to clear browsing history?

I am looking to lock my browsing history, so that other people cannot clear the history without my permission.

You most likely have 'Restrictions' enabled on websites. Go to  Settings > General > Restrictions and check if it says 'On'. If it  does, enter you PIN and go to the 'Allowed Content' section. Under this  section there is an entry for 'Websites'. Tap this and select the 'All  Websites' option.
This should bring back the Clear History button as well as the Private browsing button.
This  is actually quite clever on part of Apple. This is a form of parental  control where you enable restrictions on the websites that can be  visited and then obviously you would want to check on the actual  websites that have been visited. Hence, Apple disables the Clear History  and Private browsing options. Apple obviously has hidden this fact,  deep. There could be a better way of doing this but, this is what we  have for the time being.
