Backup size is increased after resync catalog

Hi everyone,
I have describe my problem, if anyone have a solution please provide me.
Rman catalog database version : 10.2.0.1.0, OS : red hat linux
Target database version : 10.2.0.5.0, OS : solaris 10
rman catalog database space is full, then i move my example tablespace to another location, but i forgot to change the ownership of new file.
And I have no backup of my rman catalog database. so i offline the datafile first for opening the rman catalog database after opening the database I have offline the whole example tablespace and this tablespace cannot contain any thing related the catalog.
after that I used the command : crosscheck archivelog all;
DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL
then i run the command : CROSSCHECK BACKUP;
DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP;
then i run the command : report obsolete;
delete obsolete;
then i run the command : RESYNC CATALOG;
then i run the command : change archivelog all validate;
after doing all the thing when I am taking a backup of archive log by using following command :
run {allocate channel c1 device type disk format '/appl2/prodback_rman/prod_fullbackup/ARCH_%d_%s.bak';
backup archivelog all;
before performing all the above thing my archive backup of whole day is around 5gb but after the above thing my archive backup of one day is around : 126gb
and my level0 backup is alright after and before the above thing and the size is around : 139gb
the script for the full backup is :
run {allocate channel c1 device type disk format '/appl2/prodback_rman/prod_fullbackup/FULL_%d_%s_%c.bak';
backup incremental level 0 database skip offline;
after that I have perform the incremental level 1 backup by using the following script :
run {allocate channel c1 device type disk format '/appl2/prodback_rman/prod_fullbackup/INC1_%d_%s_%c.bak';
backup incremental level 1 database;
before the above activity the size of incremental backup is around : 4.5gb but after performing the above activity the incremental backup size is around : 120gb
it is very critical for me, if any one have the solution please provide me as early as possible.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Hemant K Chitale,
you said that I am using the COMPRESSED BACKUPSETs till 22-Jan, so I am posting
the rman configuration here that is used before all this happening and same
configuration is used right now.
but before resync catalog the archivelog is generated only one location then I used to archive log
dest for archive log generation then after 5 month I will resync my catalog. may be it is the
reason.
because there are no compressed backupset is defined in the rman configuration.

  • Word Document size is increased after migration?

    Hello
    We migrated from Sp2003 to Sp2010 and noticed that all item documents in each document library, file size is increased.
    I compared the couple of documents, everything is same.
    Is it by default depending on framework or what is logic behind this.
    Can any one please explain on this?
    Avi

    I did experience this after a migration, and attributed it to differences in versions of sql server that were being used. Random checking resulted in identical results, just like you. After using it for many months, we got no end user complaints about it.
    Needless to say, having documents of different sizes after a migration can be very discomforting for just about all involved parties.
    In my case, there was a difference, when migrating via a 3rd party tool there
    were file size differences, when migrating via standard MS tooling (by exporting individual site collections, but also by attaching content db's), we experienced
    no differences.

  • Adobe interactive form(ABAP WD)size is increasing & not opening from EP UWL

    Hello All,
    Adobe interactive form (ABAP WD) size is increasing after cleansing data from MDM and the form is not opening from portal UWL.
    Same application is working fine in Dev and Qa environment. In dev and QA the form size is around 150 KB after cleansing data from MDM. Some reason in production it is more than 2 MB. FYI - We have multiple app servers in production.

    Hi Babi,
    In the adobe form layout library Use the Submit(which internally means submit to SAP) button from the Webdynpro Native category.
    Only this button action can connect adobe to web dynpro.
    Whenever we click on this particular button the event will be trigger in the ONsubmit event of interactive form UI element in the webdynpro.There we can write our abap code.Hope this will help you.

  • Big increase in backup size after upgrade

    Hello
    I've upgraded my database from 10.2.0.4 SE on win2003-SP2 to 11.2.0.1.0 SE on win2008-R2-SP1 64-bit, by doing exp/imp
    The databasefiles size sums up to about 150gb on each server
    But when I do a normal RMAN database backup of the datafiles on the new database (backup device type disk database;) I get a backupset that is 78 gb in size .
    On the old database the backup size was only 36 gb
    The data in the two database is about the same, and I dont believe I'm using compression on  any of the database backups. I've listet the RMAN  paramaters below
    Can anybody tell me why I'm seeing this huge increase in backup size?

  • DB read_only backup size increase

    Hi Experts,
    Have below 3 queries. Kindly enough throw some light
    1) I have 1 database which is read_only. tlog backup size daily fluctuates how this is possible please...
    2)another question related to another problem
    backupset table of 1 database shows 65 MB full readonly database backup(named: abcd)  daily. here i am somply taking backup from litespeed.
    when i run backup database abcd to disk="c:\abcd.bak" with copy_only,checksum,init (in read only mode) it shows size of 57 MB only. Why there's gap as database is in read_only mode.
    3) buffercount and maxtransfersize are safe if i have x64bit machine and 100 GB RAM. restore verify completed successfully.
    Regards
    Manish

    1) Why are you taking a backup of a read only database every day ?
    Since nothing is changing just stick with the backup you already have. As for fluctuations you may be taking a backup that's added on the latest backup so it'll increase over time.
    2) There is no direct correspondence between size in BAK and MDF/LDF. You could have compressed tables or compressed backup, empty space etc etc
    3) Changing buffercount and maxtransfersize are safe to change. But first measure for what you gain from changing them since increasing them will have a higher impact on cpu time.
    Here are some benchmarks on those:

  • IPA size increasing after itunes connect upload

    Hello,
    it seems that the IPA size increases after upload to the AppStore: i have an 8Mo IPA (where near 80% is Air runtime), when it's uploaded to the AppStore i get a 21Mo file to download.

    The IPA file you've made is really a zip file. The one from the app store is more of a package. If you rename your IPA to end as .zip, and uncompress that, what is the size of the app file that is inside the Payload folder? That's roughly the size the app store IPA will be.

  • RMAN - resync catalog

    Hi,
    I have a database "orcl" on which I do tests of backup and recovery. I have a database where is the catalog of the database orcl.
    I did backups with rman on orcl, I changed structure of orcl.
    At a moment I want to do a cold restore of the database from a cold backup. I did this.
    When I enter now in rman and after I do connect catalog ... and connect target
    I give the command "resync catalog" and the result is:
    "failure of resync command on default channel at 08/08/2007 15:34 checkpoint change# too low"
    What to do? There is another solution different than "drop catalog"?
    Thank you,
    Mihaela

    Mihaela,
    The previous posting is correct I think if all you want to do is get the catalog and database back together again, but some if it depends on what you plan on doing in the future as well.
    Let me see if I understand what you did:
    1. Backed up database.
    2. Made changes to database
    3. Restored database from a cold backup (I am assuming through RMAN)
    4. ?????? I don't know what you did here???????
    5. Now trying to resync database.
    Here are a couple of questions that might lend help in understanding your situation.
    What did you do at point #4 above? Did you do a point in time recovery? Did you open resetlogs? Did you take another backup of the database after the recovery?
    Now another question is why are you trying to resync the database and catalog? Is there something going on that you need to resync? What do you think resyncing will accomplish? What are you trying to accomplish?
    There are solutions different than "drop catalog" but I need to know where you are going with this, because it can get quit complicated.
    Regards
    Tim

  • RESYNC CATALOG

    I'm looking at the following reference and a bit confused about the Full Resynchronization process
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28273/rcmsynta038.htm
    From one hand it says :
    "you run RESYNC CATALOG When You made changes to the physical structure of the target database such as adding or dropping a tablespace. As with log archiving, *the recovery catalog is not updated automatically when the physical schema changes*"
    On the other hand, a few line later iit says :
    RMAN performs a full resynchronization after structural changes to database (adding or dropping database files, creating new incarnation, and so on)
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    "you run RESYNC CATALOG When You made changes to the physical structure of the target database such as adding or dropping a tablespace. As with log archiving, *the recovery catalog is not updated automatically when the physical schema changes*" it means that it's good practise to run RESYNC CATALOG manually after changes to physical structer of target database and if you know that you are not running any RMAN script after the changes - there isn't any background connection between target database and catalog if you are not running RMAN (connected to target + catalog)
    On the other hand, a few line later iit says :
    RMAN performs a full resynchronization after structural changes to database (adding or dropping database files, creating new incarnation, and so on) if you will be connected to target database and catalog using RMAN, RESYNC CATALOG will be run automatically after structural changes (if you will have new archived logs - 10 and more, resync will run too).

  • RMAN restore after using catalog command

    Hi:
    I am on 10.2.0.3; hp-ux B.11.23 ia64.
    I need to restore 2 weeks-old RMAN backup into a different database. RMAN runs at 11:00 pm each night.
    Here are the steps I've taken:
    1. Copied all backuppieces from tape into RMAN backup location where my RMAN process puts them (do I have to copy something else beside pieces?
    I do full backup - BACKUP as compressed backupset DATABASE plus archivelog;)
    2. Ran "catalog backuppiece" on every backuppiece.
    3. Ran list backup to see that this backup from tape has been registered in the catalog and has "AVAILABLE" status.
    4. Startup nomount on NEWDB.
    5.rman sys/passwd@ORIGINALDB.
    6. Ran my duplicate script (below is an extarct):
    run {
    connect catalog rman/passwd@RECCAT;
    connect auxiliary /
    set newname for datafile 1 to '/db/data2/NEWDB/system01.dbf';
    set newname for datafile 2 to '/db/data2/NEWDB/undotbs01.dbf';
    allocate auxiliary channel c1 type disk;
    set until time "to_date('28-08-2008 22:30:00','dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')";
    duplicate target database to NEWDB
    logfile
    group 1 ('/db/data1/NEWDB/redo01.log','/db/data6/NEWDB/redo01_2.log') size 100M reuse,
    Here is the error I am getting:
    executing command: SET NEWNAME
    executing command: SET NEWNAME
    allocated channel: c1
    channel c1: sid=333 devtype=DISK
    executing command: SET until clause
    Starting Duplicate Db at 10-SEP-08
    datafile 1 not processed because file is offline
    datafile 2 not processed because file is offline
    Am I missing something?
    Maybe that - my RMAN runs at 11pm so I am trying to set time at 10:30pm?
    TIA.

    Hi Hemant:
    Are you sure that you are connecting to the right instance as your >AUXILIARY ?
    normally it would be
    connect target /
    connect catalog rman/passd@RECCAT
    connect auxiliary sys/sys@NEWDBYes I am, RMAN sends a confirmation message: "connected to auxiliary NEWDB (not mounted).
    I did this many times with my RMAN backup still online. The question is that now, when I brought 2-weeks old rman backup from tape, duplication does not work although RMAN lists this old backup as available after I cataloged every backup piece...Is this all I need to catalog? I don't think controlfile snapshot matters.
    Anyone actually tried that? Bring old backup from tape (I do backupset), catalog it, then duplicate it into a new database? All comments greatly appreciated!

  • RMAN backup with smallest backup size

    Oralce 11g2 on Redhat 5. The diskspace is our tightest resource, and we want to an incremental backup with level0 on Sunday and level 1 every week days and Saturday. I am to use the comamnds to do the job--Sunday
    backup incremental level 0 tag 'level_0' database plus archivelog;
    --Other days
    backup incremental level 1 database plus archivelog delete all input;I do not think this is the best practice nor produce smallest backup files.
    What are you comments and opinions. Thanks

    Pavan, Thank you for reply. Here are the info requested
    what is size of DB ??
    ~250GB, including UNDO and TEMP. It is a dev database and not very big. But we have total 800GB disk space. After setting some housekeeoing folders, and allow some space for data growth, it leaves 180GB for flash_recovery_area.
    what would be max size of archive logs generated per day ??
    Variable from less than 1 GB to 12 GB
    Are you taking backups to tape or Disk ??
    Disk. In the 180GB flash_recovery_area, Current backup size is 152GB. If a backup fails to delete obsolete files, the next backup will fill the flash_recovery_area.

  • Will the database size be increased ?

    HI All,
    I like to ask, will the datafile size be increase, if we put our tablespace in backup mode and forget to put in back in end backup mode.
    According to me not, because all the transaction activity will be carried out into redologs and of course, there will be significant increase in redologs. Please correct me, If I am wrong.
    hare krishna
    Alok

    The size of datafile itself will not be affected, but as you mentioned, the amount of redo that you generate will increase.

    Hello everyone,
    I have imported dump file having size 800mb and after completing importing given file my database size became more than 10 gb and in that arguement$ segment occupied more than 5 gb.
    so, I would like to know
    1.why it worked in this way ..
    2. As this is system tablespace's segment so ultimately System tablespace increased .. hence is there any way to reduce system TS.
    below query result for ur reference..
    Thanks in adavance
    select owner,segment_name,segment_type ,bytes/(1024*1024) size_m from dba_segments where tablespace_name = 'SYSTEM' and bytes/(1024*1024) > 2 order by size_m desc;

  • Why does rotating a layer cause image size to increase?

    I was working on the top layer of a PSD document and did a custom rotation of 45 degrees so I could get a better painting angle.  When I rotated the layer back I noticed my image size had increased from 10 x 8 inches to 18.3 x 18.3.  When I tried to resize the image back to 10 x 8 it made my image fat and squatty.  Any ideas what I did wrong when rotating?  I just wanted a better wrist angle for stroking lines...

    This is an example of using Image>Resize>Reveal All.
    If you rotate a layer, using free transform or Image>Rotate>Free Rotate Layer,
    then setect the move tool, you should see a bounding box well outside the original image.
    This is the part of the photo you can't see after rotating the layer.
    If you then were to go to Image>Image Size>Reveal All, elements makes those areas visible.
    The only thing about rotating images or layers at angles other than 90 degree increments,
    is that might degrade the image some.
