Backup with 2 accounts on one laptop

My wife and I each have an account on one MacBook Pro running 10.6. We are trying to figure out a good way to back up about 120 GB worth of documents, photos, home movies, Address Book, Keychain, etc spread over both of our accounts.
1) If we get one portable external hard drive, can we set it up to backup both accounts? Can you direct us to an article or tutorial that shows how to do this?
2) I haven't used Time Machine yet. If we get a portable external hard drive, do we have to use Time Machine or will the drive come with its own software to use in place of Time Machine?
3) If we use an online backup company, would we expect to pay once for backing up one computer or pay twice because we each have an account on the computer?
Thanks,
Dave

Yes, get a firewire drive.
You can use SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
to clone your entire drive to an external firewire drive. With all accounts. They are both free for cloning. SuperDuper charges a fee for "Smart Updates".

No you can use anything you want. As I said thebest are SD or CCC.
The advantage of SD or CCC over TM is that they are bootable whereas TM is not. So if you get stuck you can boot from your external. Also, I find them more reliable.

Don't.

Create another user in Windows > Start Menu > Control Panel > User Accounts.
This way you log out and into another to use it, complete with it's own iTunes Library, content and playlists.
You can transfer content to the other user using a USB key.

  • Hi, Can anyone tell me if you can have two separate itunes accounts on one laptop?

Hi, Can anyone tell me if you can have two separate itunes accounts on one laptop? If so can you please let me know how I set this up. I already have my itunes account loaded on and have another on a separate hardrive that I want to be able to use on the same laptop. many thanks.

Are you meaning 2 different accounts or 2 different libraries?
Launch iTunes with the 'Option' key held down and follow the dialog as to which library you want to open.

can you set up multiple user accounts on one laptop?

    Of course.
And instructions can depend on which OS X is installed.
For v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion: Create a new user account
For v10.8 Mountain Lion > OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account
When you post for help, please state which OS X is installed.

  • Exchange 2010 server with 2 DAG servers - DAG1 and DAG2 - backup with 2 DPM servers one for each DAG server

    Hello,
Please advice, i have an Exchange 2010 server with 2 DAG servers - DAG1 and DAG2 - backup with 2 DPM servers, one for DAG1 and one for DAG2 is it possible ?

    Hi,
I confirmed with Exchange support team that DAGs could be backed up separately.
Meanwhile backup database is important if you need to recover both Exchange server settings and database. See:

  • What are the options to use itunes with multiple accounts on one computer

I am totally confused; apple phone support seems to have no clue at least the person I spoke to. I want to get two iTunes accounts on one computer, one exists already. I am not sure what apple allows in this case. I was told at a apple store that if you create another PC profile you should be able to get the second iTunes account on the same computer with the new windows profile. There seems to be no info on the discussions board to this issue.
I do not want to share an account and have a second library I think it would be too confusing for the other person. Is this possible?

You can purchase music using multiple accounts within the same Windows profile & using the same iTunes library. I think when you log into the store it remembers the last account name used, but provided you don't let it remember your password then you have the opportunity to enter the correct details for each purchase.
If you're going to place these purchases on your respective iPod's the following may help.
*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • Need solid help creating a second user account identical to the first user account on one laptop

    Hi,
I am in the process of setting up a new Windows 8.1 laptop for my parents. Currently, there is just one user admin account on it - my dad's. Coming from Windows XP, this has been an unexpectedly lengthy and complex process.
So as to avoid having to fine-tune so many settings a second time for my mom, how can I create an exact duplicate (or make a copy) of Dad's account for Mom to use?
    In a nutshell...
One laptop: Currently have one admin account named "Dad". Want to duplicate/copy "Dad" EXACTLY and name it "Mom".
I cannot find a clear cut answer on this even though I have searched for hours and hours. Previously, it seems that many users utilized Microsoft's Easy Transfer to accomplish this feat; however, this is no longer an option for Windows 8.1 users. Also, there
are a few "guides", but they often contradict each other.
Through extensive research, one of my resulting primary concerns is that doing this the wrong way has the potential of essentially destroying all of the hard work that I have put into my dad's account.
Specifically, I have read that one particular method is not meant to preserve the original account for continued use so much as it is meant to transfer salvageable settings and files from a corrupt account to a new one. However, other "guides" say
    to use that particular method.
So much mind-boggling confusion! Any solid help and/or solid guides would be greatly appreciated beyond measure!

Since you're looking for more information than what you've found already, you may benefit from a higher level overview of Sysprep, which can be found

  • DAQCard-AI-16XE-50 with NI6715 installed in one laptop

Now I want to buy a NI6715 card and a DAQCard-AI-16XE-50 and install them in one laptop together.I choose the SHC68-68-EP cable for NI6715 and PSHR68-68 cable for DAQCard-AI-16XE-50.I am not sure these two cable can be used together in one laptop.Maybe somebody can tell me?
    Thanks a lot!

    Lincoln,
The SHC68-68-EP is design to fit in a Daqcard that is in the bottom PCMCIA slot, and the PSHR68-68 (is the strain relief right?) does not has any limitation about space... so if you use the PSHR68-68 cable in the top slot and the SHC68-68-EP in the bottom slot you will work fine. I already check them here.
    Good luck!..

  • How to create burn folder for backup with 2 accounts

The are 2 accounts on my computer: mine and my wife's. I want to create a single Burn Folder with important files from both accounts. How do I do that? Thanks,

Tri-Backup, (30-day Free Trial), can get you around all of this, for one thing it'll allow you to break it up into custom size chunks to span several CDs or DVDs, then Burn those...

  • Can I have two itunes accounts on one laptop

Can I have both my husbands and my account (2 seperate ids) on one laptop

    Hello Jannette92
You can authorize to play his and your content but you are going to want to stay away from singing in and out each others Apple ID in the same iTunes library as that can lock out one of the Apple ID’s for 90 days. The best way to handle that is to create a separate user and have it just for his stuff and then use your user for just your iPhone.

  • Whats the best way to connect multiple iphones, ipads, ipods with multiple accounts to one mac

I have iPhone 5s, ipad 4th gen ipod classic and mac mini on one itunes account with iphone 4s with ipad 1st gen on another account (wife's account) and also want to be able to add to this in the future. I want to connect through the mac mini and be able to use music movies calanders reminders etc through all our i's, whats the simplest and best way to go about this, before i start down the wrong road.

Ok, here is the link to the original thread.  The key, for him, was that all of the pads used the same apple id, and needed to be set up identically.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15456170#15456170
The other trick they use for distributing materials for whatever class was using the pads, was to create an e mail account that they all had acees to.  The documents, pdf, or whatever, would be e mailed to the account.  Each kid accesses and downloads the email.  Does whatever they are supposed to do, and e mails the done result back to the mailbox.     Easy for the teacher and the kids.

  • What is the easiest way to sync and back up 2 iPhones with different accounts on one computer?

My parents have gotten a new Windows 8 computer and want to use it to back up and sync their phones for updates. They don't share an iTunes account but they do share the credit card used to make purchases. They also so not want to set up "his and her" accounts on the computer. Also they are getting new phones next week. Should I just make an account for them to share and delete their old accounts, or will signing in and out of iTunes based on who is using it keep their information seperate...or is there a much simpler way to do it that I am totally missing?

I wouldn't say that it is easily done, but it can be done, the reason I don't say easily is because it has to be done individually one at a time. And I assume that you are talking about all ten having the same apps?
