Bad installer with LV 8.2.1 application builder

Hi,
I updated LV to 8.2.1 with the update available online. Now I need to build a new installer because the exe will need LV 8.2.1 RT (at least it does not work on a pc with 8.2 installed).
The build process runs fine so far, but when I try to use the installer, an error message with unfullfilled dependencies is shown. I tried to remove a few components but somehow every installer seems to yield this message...
Any hints?
Thanks,
Carsten

Hi,
I kind of solved the problem.
created a new installer spec: the old one seems not to update it's dependencies
deleted the directory where the installer is places: the build process dosn't seem to overwrite all old files as expected
So it seems to be a problem with the project manager not updating the specifiactions correctly (though the directories look ok on the additional installer tab)...
Cheers,
Carsten

  • Problem with logging in to apex application builder listener

I have problem with my settings and am posting this in hope that someone else out there had similar problem and solved it!
I am trying to use reverseproxy to access to our db through apex listener.
It's been all set-up and I can login to the application it self either through proxy or no proxy using the listener.
But when I try to login to apex application builder I cannot do it through proxy(with no proxy, it works).
It just refreshes the login page when I click login....
I tried to upgrade the listener to the latest v1.1(using 1.0.2) but it causes my tomcat to crash...
So solution i am looking for is how to make logging in work through proxy..
In the firebug it is showing that below and few other request status as 302 moved temporariry
    http://myserver:8080/testsin/apex/wwv_flow.accept
Where as with no proxy it is saying Found.....
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks
    Sin K

    Hello Sin K,
so proxy and Tomcat are located on different machines as well? Is the proxy able to commuicate with the Tomcat on the configured internal ports and is the proxy able to lookup the hostname you configured for the Tomcat?
For the connector, the proxyName and proxyPort should be the parameters the client uses to call APEX. So if your clients should call via http://proxyserver:8080/testsin/apex the settings would be
    proxyName=proxyserver
proxyPort=8080Reason for this is that applications (e.g. the APEX Listener) generate there URL references with these parameters.
But does your proxy actually serve on port 8080? And is that port accessible by clients? Do clients accept cookies from that server?
In my case, there is only one 302 which redirects to http://host:port/apex/f?p=4500:1000:sessionid which is correct.
If you look into your first post request in firebug, what's in the request header?

  • Text field with autocomplete: little bug in application builder

    Hi,
I just noticed that the application builder complains when a text field with autocomplete is defined with a named LOV containing a single column value (Apex 4.0.2.00.06).
I created the text-field with a dynamic LOV (please specify in the docs that autocomplete requires single column queries!), then I used the "Convert to named LOV" task link to convert it to a named LOV and it works perfectly, however as soon as you attempt to change some other attribute for the item, it will throw the following error:
    1 error has occurred
Using a named list of values (LOV) is only supported for item types which require at least two LOV columns. As i said, the named single column LOV works just fine with the autocomplete, so the error message seems to be also misleading.

    Hi Surya,
the "Text Field with autocomplete" is really just an autocomplete widget and doesn't behave like a LOV. But we are planning to release an item type plug-in which solves both of your requirements.

  • Create uninstaller exe with application builder

    Hi!
Im using LabVIEW 8.5. I have created an application with the app. builder, it works fine, also an installer.
But I need an UNINSTALLER, like Uninstall.exe to be created also.
I have found a NI doc, which says:
"The Create Uninstaller option was removed from the
Advanced Installer Settings dialog box because the Application
    Builder always creates an uninstaller"
But where can I find it?
im able to uninstall my app, using the Windows add/remove softwares option, but i need an exe.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks:
    Waszil

Since the installer is based on Microsoft technology and the Microsoft standard is to only have the Add/Remove option, you cannot create an uninstall.exe with LabVIEW. I'm not even sure why would would need to if everything works with Add/Remove Programs and that is what everyone is used to now. In any case, there are probably some commercial installer packages available that still support the old technology.

  • Error "cannot find terminal hotpoint in wire..." during application build.

    Hello,
I'm trying to compile a TestStand 2.0.1 Custom LabVIEW Operator Interface with the LabVIEW 6.1 application builder. During the build process I get six(6) error prompts 'cannot find terminal hotpoint in wire...' and the builder stops and prompts another error that says the one of the VI's 'is not executable'. However, I can open the VI and there are no errors on it and no asterisk on the titlebar. There is only one strange thing I noticed in the VI Hierarchy browser, where for this VI and some others, it display an untitled (new) VI not connected to anything (!?) that does not appear in the block diagram. If you reopen the VI, the mysterious VI is gone.
The interesting thing is that I can successfully build the application if I try it with another Windows XP sp2 computer with the same exact LabVIEW and TestStand versions. Could anyone help me out here and let know what this error means. I can't find any reference to it here or in google. Thanks!

Thanks  to Kevin in tech support for investigating these errors. I did find after much work one of the VI's that is causing the "terminal hotpoint in wire..." error. It's a GET EXE STRINGS.VI in the custom OI. I have screen shots of it, but I don't know how to load them here... Anyway, it appears to happen on this particular VI because it has more than 20 connector pain terminals, but not all of the connections appear to be setup in the connector pane. However, this does not prevent the VI or the calling VI (TestStand - Execution Display) from running normally or even displaying a broken arrow (Why Not?). I changed the VI and removed the unused connections and the problem seems to be gone. I still need to find one more VI that is doing this. I also don't know why my Laptop is able to build the OI application OK w/o errors and other PC's always stop the application builder because of these errors.
Any other insight on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    David A. Gaud

  • Installer with application only

    Hello,
I have an applicatin file (.exe) which work only on computers with LabView.
I want to build an installer from it.
This application was done a long time ago, so I don't have the VI's or projects files. I basically want to create an installer from it and addtional device drivers so it can work on computers without Labview.
Is there a way to do it? when I start a new project and want to create a new installer - I don't have the option to select my application in source files.
    thanks

I think you can technically trick an empty project into thinking it built an EXE, and then allow you to make an installer from it, but this probably won't do what you want.
If you made a project with a simple VI that does nothing and use that to make an EXE, then replace that EXE with yours, I think you could then create an installer that includes you EXE.  But there maybe other problems with this because you'll have to do this in the same development environment.  So it would be best if you had the same LabVIEW version, with the same DAQmx, and same MAX, and same everything else, so that when you create an installer it includes the same versions of these things under the additional installers.
Another option for you is to create your own installer.  This can copy your EXE to the installed location, and run any NI installers like the run-time, DAQmx etc, silently.  I've always used Inno Setup combined with ISTool but others have had success with Install Shield.

  • Can I include raw files into the installer folder with LV application builder?

    Hello,
I have created a batch file that will run at the end of the installer, which will copy over some raw configuration files into the source destination so that the configuration files can be customized for each end user without rebuilding the installer with application builder. I also have an autorun.inf so the installer will automatically run when the user installs the CD.
However I would like to have some default configuration files and an autorun.inf file that will be automatically added to the installer "volume" folder using the application builder.
However I don't see a way to include raw files in the "volume" folder. It appears all source files in the application builder are embedded into the binary files.
Please let me know if this is possible with the current application builder.

"You cannot use this version of the application Adobe Air Installer with this version of Mac OS X."
    Could anyone help me?

    Hi,
Adobe won't be developing for 10.5.8 new features (including new runtime) only security relates updates for existing runtimes (Flash 10.3.*/Air 2.7.*). Flash 11/Air 3.0 are only supported on 10.6.8.*/10.7.*, see:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/916/cpsid_91694.html#main_system_requirements
There is recent,  lengthy thread on forums with Adobe's employees statements on that subject (support/development for 10.5.* and newer) but I cannot find it quickly as basically forum search is broken/hard to do,

  • Installer built with Application Builder gives error "Cannot install, higher version already installed"

I am having an issue with an installer which I created with the Application Builder. I have a project that I have successfully deployed. Subsequently I created another project (and vi) which is based on a copy of the originals, both with new file names. In the renamed project file, I changed all file names, paths, and all resources, to reflect the new names. I also changed the installer’s destination and install folders, of course. I reset the executable’s version number (in the Build Specification properties) to 1.0 (the original was 1.3). I then successfully built an executable and the application installer. However, when I run the installer (setup.exe), it gives a dialog (after the license screen) that it “Cannot install” because a “higher version already installed”.
I’ve done exactly the same thing with other vi’s and projects of mine, and never had this issue. The installer correctly installs the newly created (and renamed) version where it is told to in the project file. Also, I’ve never had a problem deploying (installing) on my development PC either.
I have carefully checked and rechecked to make sure there is no reference to the original executable or paths. What could be causing this behavior? I want to keep the two projects completely separate, so simply changing the version to higher than 1.3 is not an acceptable solution.
Thanks to anyone in advance for any help and suggestions.
    Ed

Yes, LV 8.5 does NOT give me control over the GUID. In the project file there are three such strings:
    "App_applicationGUID"
    "App_INI_aliasGUID"
    "App_INI_GUID"
They all have different numbers and none of them match the GUID or PackageGUID in setup.ini. I don't know if they are related or not, but usually it's not a good idea to mess with (manually edit) files like these (project, ini, etc.) unless you know what you are doing. (For example, I do edit the setup.ini file to change some of the [Dialogs] parameters, but that is based on direction from NI support.)
Anyway, like I said, I've made copies of projects before and never ran into this problem. At least I have a solution, however laborious, in creating a new project file from scratch.
Let me know if anyone has more thoughts on this.

  • Managing Application Installs and Uninstalls with AD Groups Tied to Applications

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to come up with a way to manage application deployment and removal based on user collections that have corresponding security groups in AD. I'm using SCCM 2012 r2.
Historically, I've done the following to deploy applications: -
Create a new application, setting the user experience to install for system.
Create two device collections, one named install and the other named uninstall.
Create two application deployments, one to install (targeted at the install device collection) and one to uninstall (targeted at the uninstall device collection).
Add device to install collection to install application.
To uninstall the application, remove the device from the install collection and add it to the uninstall collection.
That has all been working great but moving forward, I'd like to manage deployment based on user collections. So I've approached this as follows: -
For installations, create a new application setting the user experience to install for user.
Create a security group in AD that corresponds to the new application.
Once SCCM synchronizes with AD and the new group appears under SCCM users, create a new user collection making the security group a direct member of the collection. Set the collection to update incrementally.
Create a required installation deployment for the new application and target it at user collection for the application.
Add a user object in AD to AD security group for the application.
Once everything syncs, the user logged on to a workstation gets the application. Up to here, everything works well.
For uninstalls, I've created an AD security group called Application Uninstalls and made domain users a member.
Once this synchronizes with SCCM, I've created a new user collection called Application Uninstalls and made the security group a direct member of the collection. Again, the collection is set to incremental update.
Create an uninstallation deployment for the new application and target it at the 'Application Uninstalls' collection.
The idea behind the uninstallation is to take advantage of the 'application installation deployments take priority over uninstallation deployments'. Because every user is a member of domain users, if they are not a member of the relevant security group to
have an application installed, then the application is automatically uninstalled. The trouble is, if I remove a user from the AD security group where they get the application, the uninstall deployment isn't kicking in like I would expect and removing the application.
Any thoughts? Is this a logical approach or is it flawed?
    Any input appreciated!
    Bazzaroo

if I'm reading what you are saying correctly, then has the user logged out and then back on? Since the deployment is to the collection based on group membership, the client would not know that the user is no longer a member of the targeted collection until
the user token has been updated, which happens at log off/log on time.
It does depend on the collection membership - if the collection membership is to the user group, so that the collection member shows the use group, then the log off/log on would be needed.
If the collection membership list displays the individual users, then obviously that collection needs to be updated, AND new policy retrieval at the client so that it knows that it is no longer targeted.
Then, you need an Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle, which is when the client checks to see if apps that are supposed to be installed are.

  • AIR application installer with multiple languages

How can I distribute my AIR desktop app for Windows and OS X, with multiple languages in the installer? My app itself is completely localized, but I want the installer to be localized too. The issue is, though, that I need it to be localized into Hebrew, which isn't one of the built-in AIR languages. How can I create a custom installer with Hebrew included?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Would it be possible to get the URL to the page that has your AIR badge installer (or the html if it's not publicly viewable)?  We'll probably also need further info on the system that's failing, if possible could you post the installer log and check to see if the following file exists:
    Win 7:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller\airappinstaller.exe
    Mac

  • Application builder and Installation

Elijah Kerry did a real nice power point presentation on Application Builder ( Risk Associated w Source Distribution)  back in 2012.  I can't remeber what forum/group, etc I found it under.  Does anyone know if there is a similar presentation for creating an Installer??
    ie:
How do I make sure I get all the files needed to port my code to a target machine?
Do I need to create the exe file 1st??  or does Installer do that for me??  What about MAX??  What about DAQ??  etc, etc.???
    Thanks.

Yes.  Tasks Scales and chanels need to be defined somewhere.  That *.xml file with a *.lvproj extension is a nice convinient place that DAQmx will look for.
Excuse my ignorance on the subject because I've never used it.  But is this useful for deploying DAQmx scales/Channels/Aliases?  When I build an EXE and then an installer is the DAQmx scales and channels information inside the .lvproj imported?  Or is this just useful for development?
EDIT:  It looks like it only has scales/tasks/channels not aliases.  So never mind.
