Bad readings from DAQCard-6036E after DAQmxSelfCal() call

Hi,
I have a very urgent problem that I would like investigating.
I have a DAQCard-6036E and have noticed that, occassionally, after a call to DAQmxSelfCal(), the AI readings are incorrect.
All channels in my application are configured in differential mode, and the readings returned are occassionally wrong by ~9mV on channels with gain of 1, and ~0.9mV on channels with a gain of 10.
If I repeatedly call DAQmxSelfCal(), I seem to get the bad readings after about every 3rd call to DAQmxSelfCal() - then the next call will usually correct the calibration coeffns, and so on. I have not been able to establish an exact pattern to the problem, but have tried with the laptop on mains power, and internal batter
ies and the problem is the same.
Could there be a problem with the self calibration function in DAQmx, or could there be an external influence? When I call DAQmxSelfCal() my signals are connected to the card, but I assume the inputs get isolated from connected signals during the calibration routine.
Thanks

Hi Ed,
I got a loan DAQCard-6036E from NI and tried that and had the same problems. I am suspicious that it is something to do with my laptop, maybe the battery monitoring circuitry or something. Assuming that there is nothing wrong with the DAQCard 6036 internal design, my theory is that if the laptop generates noise while the self-cal is in progress then this can affect the calibration coeffns that are generated. This might be a rubbish theory, but believe me, the effect is genuine.
I would say proceed with caution, put the self cal in, but test it thoroughly by calling it repeatedly with a high precision voltage reference attached and check the returned values. Note that I only think this is an issue with DAQCards, I have not seen it with PCI cards, but then I have not tested these as much.
By the way, doing a self cal once per day is more than enough. Once per hour is too much. There is an article somewhere on NI.com that talks about the recommended interval. Make sure the laptop has been on for at least 15 mins first.
Let me know how you get on.
Regards
Jamie

  • DeploymentService:290066 error when deploying EAR after a call to a SOAP WS

    Hi all,
    I'm totally disappointing with this behavior on my 10.3.4 weblogic server.
    I have develop a EAR connecting a SOAP WS. Targeted server is a MS one.
    I have used WSImport to generate proxy classes.
    My service goes well, no issue to call and retrieve returns from WS.
    The issue is that, I'm no more able to do any administration command on my managed1 from the admin console or from ant task after a call is done to the WS. I can do with success call to WS from my application without any time limitation.
    when i try to deploy a new release or another application (ear) on managed1 via ANT deploy task  i got the following error in managed1.out

    Hi Stephane,
    The following error "Error occurred while downloading files from admin server for deployment request" occurs when a  service on the machine is preventing the WebLogic Server remote instance from downloading the configuration file.
    This can be Hosts Intrusion Prevention (HIPS) agents or any other agent causing this issue.
    Disabling the agent interfering with the download process should fix this issue.
    Please check and let us know if it helps you!!!

    I am making a calendar in iPhoto, picking photos from a folder, let's call it "2011 Pics," in iPhoto. After arranging all the photos and captions I decided I wanted to insert a new photo -- one that was not in "2011 Pics." So I inserted it into the folder, but the picture does not show up on the scrolling menu of pictures at the left of the calendar-making page. This happened last year and in frustration I started all over again. But surely there is a way to add a new picture to a calendar that is already laid out.

    Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
    In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • Missed calls from my iPhone keep ringing on my Mac, even after the caller hung up.

    I have a MBP mid-2012 and an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.2.
    I have no problem answering or initiating phone calls from my Mac with Continuity. The only problem is when I miss a phone call: the Mac can keep ringing long minutes after the caller on the other side hung up and the call is marked "missed" on the phone. Trying to answer from the Mac at this point will have no result, off course.
    I don't have a voice mail box on this line (no need for it, IMO, when there is texting...)
    Is this a bug? Or maybe a feature I can set/override?
    It's pretty annoying.

  • AI-16XE-50 replaced by DAQCard-6036E

    Hello,
    I have an application that was programmed long ago by an outside vendor.  It used AI-16XE-50, which has now been rendered obsolete.  The replacement provided by NI was DAQCard-6036E.  We purchased this card and installed it.  It fired up without even a hiccup and seemed to run just fine.  After looking more closely at it, it seems that the sample rate is not being set correctly.  Are the sample rates on these cards set the same way?  If not, what are the differences?  BTW, I'm using LabVIEW 7.0.
    Thanks.

    Hi rickford66 -
    I'm sorry to say that the Traditional DAQ driver is no longer fully supported, as it was replaced by the DAQmx driver years ago.  I'll try to help out as much as possible, but my experience with the older driver is pretty limited.  Here's a shot in the dark, in case it helps:
    It sounds like your application is starting the card at some specified sampling rate and then running a loop to read from the buffer, based on the system timer.  When the timer says that time is up, it stops the loop.  What should actually be done is to set the card up for a finite acquisition of the specified duration, then to read from the buffer periodically inside the loop (while monitoring the available samples per channel).  When the available samples drop to zero, it means the clock on the HW has stopped and you have all the samples.
    You might be running into performance issues in getting data across the PCMCIA bus (via interrupts) and just not reading the last batch of data since your feedback on when to stop the loop is completely independent of the DAQ card's operation.  If you don't want to change anything else, you might just break the loop on the timer and call AI Read once more with the sample to read set to "all available" (or the equivalent).  This should flush the end of the buffer.

  • Daqcard 6036e affected by laptop power supply?

    Hello NI types;
    I have a problem that seems pretty bizarre to me, so I thought I would share it with you to see if anyone has any suggestions.
    I have a brand new Daqcard-6036E (pcmcia card), with shielded cable and the CB-68LPR terminal block, and I'm trying to use it with a Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-955A) with Windows XP professional. Labview 7, full installation with all the recommended drivers from the Labview 7 cdroms (didn't install anything from the 6036E cdrom, since I figured the stuff on the LV7 disc was probably more current anyway).
    The card is recognized by MAX, Labview, etc. I can bring up the test panels no problem. I measure in differential mode, -10v to 10v range, I'm using the proper terminal pairs for the differential mode (aich0 + aich8 for diff1, etc). Problem is, regardless of what I put in for an input (I've used a little dc voltage supply, and bridging the terminals with a wire to enforce 0V) I get garbage not even resembling the proper input. It does random fluctuations all the way up to the input limits (-10/10 V). I measure with a meter and everything looks great at the terminals. I don't have any other terminal block connections (no connections from AIGND's, AO, timers, etc).
    Here's the weirdness: the setup works just perfect... as long as I'm running the laptop off the battery and not using the power supply plugged into the wall. This was really, really annoying to try and find (pulling out the power supply to the laptop was the last thing I tried after fussing with it for a couple of hours). Battery only: reads correct voltages, nice and stable. Laptop power supply: reads completely incorrect fluctuating voltages.
    I checked that I was trying to read differential mode (in MAX, and my labview stuff I've written), and I have no idea what to try next. I've used NI stuff for years (LV2,4,5, Nubus cards on macs, pci cards on pcs and macs) but I've never had an opportunity to use a pcmcia card before. I've never seen this behaviour on any other setup I've worked on.
    I have a few suspicions: laptop power brick (which plugs in on the same side of the laptop as the pcmcia cage) isn't really nice 19.6 V dc @ 3A like the back of the brick says (have not verified this), maybe bizarre ground loop problems (I get this problem even with no external sources hooked to the CB-68LPR, just the differential inputs connected together on the channel). Maybe the power supply brick makes rf interference that annoys the card (I tried moving the brick farther away with no difference). Maybe Sony just doesn't like me.
    As a dumb test, I ran the laptop's power brick plugged into a 120v inverter running off a 12V car battery (ie - 12Vdc -> 120Vac -> 19.6 V dc -> laptop) and that made no difference (still didn't wdfdfork). My other thought is to try and run the laptop directly off a regulated dc supply fed by a 24V battery setup, but that'll take me a little while to assemble to test.
    Any thoughts on this? Sadly I do not have a second laptop to try this all in to see if that rectifies things. Has anyone else encountered this?
    I hope I haven't left out a salient detail. If I forgot to mention something relevant please ask.
    Best regards,
    Steven Cogswell

    Hello Ben and others;
    Indeed, you hit the nail on the head, except it was the other way around. I hadn't taken notice of it before, but this laptop (which isn't mine) doesn't even have a 3-prong plug on the adapter in the first place, only 2-prong (the cord/brick have no facility for a 3rd either, and it's the original sony adapter). I ran a connection from the AIGND (AIGND/AOGND/DGND on this card are all the same point according to the manual) to the 120v ground (3rd prong) and sure enough, everything cleans up and voltages are correct again.
    And a small note for those taking notes, although I said the laptop is a "PCG-955A" (that's what's on the bottom), it's actually a Vaio FX120 (written in tiny print on the screen bezel).
    Thanks for all you

    Hi, I'm having a hardware issue noone else seems to be having. I mean, I can't find any discussions or bug reports about it anywhere. :-(
    The specifics:

    Thank you for your reply, pyther. I figured it was a kernel bug, too, but now I'm not so sure. Surprisingly, in Ubuntu 11.04 (which uses kernel 2.6.38), suspend works fine on my laptop. Figuring that perhaps this was due to an Ubuntu-specific patch, I tried booting the 2.6.38-8-generic kernel that ships with Ubuntu 11.04 on my Arch installation, but found that it was subject to the same issue described above, where the system fails to resume from suspend. I also tried disabling laptop-mode-tools, but to no avail.
    Clearly, the problem is related somewhat to the kernel, as in my Arch installation, suspend works fine in 2.6.36, is somewhat problematic in 2.6.37, and is completely broken in 2.6.38. Yet I don't think it's entirely due to the kernel, as suspend works fine in Ubuntu 11.04, but is broken when I boot my Arch installation with Ubuntu's kernel. Performing a bit bisect to determine the bad commit sounds like it might help, but given that suspend functionality seems to have gotten progressively worse for me since 2.6.36, I'm not sure how I would go about locating a specific commit that is the source of my issues. Is there anything else I might try?

    HELP...   Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
    Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts.  Three bleeps and pause.
    Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading  RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
    Can any one help?

  • Need the last exit/BADI to get PO spool after PO is created or changed...

    Hello Experts,
    I have a requirement wherein I need to get the spool number of my PO during create or change mode.
    I have checked BADIs like ME_PURCHDOC_POSTED, ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST but they are called BEFORE the spool is created.
    What I want is an enhancement that is called AFTER the spool is created since I will use that spool to
    download a PDF format of it in my local PC. Hope you can help me guys.
    Thank you and take care!

    Hi Vijay ,
    try in its driver program of PO.

  • Sound muting problem after missed calls

    Using Skype 4.9, but confirmed with 4.7 as well.
    Android 4.2.2 JB, standard theme.
    After a missed call, my FM radio stops working, and also I find all other sounds quieter byt more than 40-50%. No volume control app helps (tried many), the volumes don't seem changed. The FM radio apparently finds stations etc. but no sound. As if it is muted, and all other sounds seem to be affected by some more master volume no app could affect.
    This whole mess is fixed when restarting the phone, or when I make another call to Sound test service (or other contact) - just establishing a call is enough to fix the issue. This is not always a solution for variety of reasons.
    Also letting skype exit (after signout) completely fixes the issue. But this "exiting" takes hours most of the time - its VideMonitor service stays for hours after signout, sometimes days. Unacceptable.
    This is Very frustrating to the point i stopped using skype until this is fixed.
    It seems Skype doesn't restore some volumes/mute after a missed call.
    The mentioned workarounds are not always viable, especially when I'm away from Wifi range. Is there another workaround, or better, a fix, when I miss a call, skype should restore sound volumes and any muted channels (fm radio).
    Thanks.

    The very same problem on Huawei Ascend G7...
    After missed call skype turns off all the sounds in the phone including alarm.
    I did late on work today because of it...
    Why nobody from the developers don't take this seriosly and to clear up that serious issue..???

  • Declarative component stops working after taskflow-call-in-popup

    Hi!
    JDev 11.1.1.3.0
    I need a component, much like the commandToolbarButton, but I have the requirement that the user should still be able to select from the popup even if the button is disabled.
    So I created a declarative component, combining two buttons and a popup with a menu in a panelGroupLayout. The one button, the mainButton, actually executes the action, the other (with an icon only) opens a menu in a popup.
    The user selects an item from the popup, the component then PPRs the main button in code to display the user's choice in the main buttons text.
        <af:panelGroupLayout layout="horizontal" id="${component.id}_layout">
          <af:commandToolbarButton id="mainButton" text="#{component.mainButtonText}"
                                   clientComponent="true" disabled="#{!component.enabled}"
                                   partialSubmit="true"
                                   actionListener="#{component.mainButtonPressed}"/>
          <af:commandToolbarButton id="menuButton" icon="/images/arrowDownComboBox.png"
                                   partialSubmit="true" disabled="#{!component.enabled}">
            <af:showPopupBehavior alignId="mainButton" align="afterStart" popupId="commandPopup"/>
          </af:commandToolbarButton>
          <af:facetRef facetName="extensionButton"/>
          <af:popup id="commandPopup" contentDelivery="lazyUncached" childCreation="immediate"
                    clientComponent="true">
            <af:menu id="commandMenu" clientComponent="true" binding="#{component.commandMenu}"/>
          </af:popup>
        </af:panelGroupLayout>That works fine ... until the user opens a taskflow in a popup.
    I have a bounded taskflow, jspx-based, opened by a button with an action that navigates to a taskflow-call activity in a modal dialog. The user opens the taskflow, does what needs to be done, then closes the dialog.
    Still fine.
    But, after the dialog has closed, when the user selects an item from the popup menu of my declarative component, I suddenly get an NPE:
    <26.04.2011 19:07 Uhr MESZ> <Notice> <Stdout> <BEA-000000> <<RegistrationConfigurator><handleError> Server Exception during PPR, #1

         at javax.faces.event.ActionEvent.processListener(ActionEvent.java:88)To track the problem down, I have pointed the binding attribute of the declarative component to a property in a session-scoped bean, to see what the component looks like that is set, what the children and grand children are, and who the parent is.
    This prints:
    <26.04.2011 19:07 Uhr MESZ> <Notice> <Stdout> <BEA-000000> <Setter called: DemoComboButtonComponent[oracle.adf.view.rich.component.fragment.UIXInclude$ContextualFacesBeanWrapper@1762a87, id=demoAdd]>

But when I add the same debug code to my setSelectedCommand() method (which is called when the user selects an item from the popup's menu), I get:
    <26.04.2011 19:07 Uhr MESZ> <Notice> <Stdout> <BEA-000000> <I am: DemoComboButtonComponent[oracle.adf.view.rich.component.fragment.UIXInclude$ContextualFacesBeanWrapper@ba2b1c, id=demoAdd]>
    <26.04.2011 19:07 Uhr MESZ> <Notice> <Stdout> <BEA-000000> <My Parent: null>
    <26.04.2011 19:07 Uhr MESZ> <Notice> <Stdout> <BEA-000000> <My Children: []> The empty children property explains the NPE. This NPE only happens when the user selects an item from the popup after the dialog has closed.
    Debugging showed that the new DemoComboButtonComponent is created during the restoration of (tree) state after the closing of the modal dialog. But why has it no parent? And where are the kids?
    Could the binding of the declaratice component to a session-scoped bean be the problem? Somehow prevent the state mechanism from re-building the UI component tree correctly?
    I am at the end of my wits.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Sascha

    Hi Frank,
    no, not yet. I had the feeling that it's me who is doing something wrong. Declarative components are pretty common, right? So are taskflow calls in dialogs. Someone should have noticed if there's a bug in the framework, right?!
    But I changed the scope of the bean (to backing scope and request scope) that the declarative component is bound to and I still get the error.
    I will try to create a simpler test case, and if I can reproduce with that, then I will file a bug, if there's no one that can explain the phenomenon.

  • Can the Icon be disposed safely after a call to Imaging.CreateBitmapSourceFromHIcon?

    Hi all,
    for a Grid that shows file paths and the associated file icon for a set of given files we extract the Icon of those files and create ImageSource instances for later use.
    Roughly:
    FileIcons aIcon = new FileIcons(filePath);
    System.Drawing.Icon i = aIcon.GetSmallIconWithTypeName(isFolder, out typeName);
    ImageSource imgSource = Imaging.CreateBitmapSourceFromHIcon(i.Handle, Int32Rect.Empty, BitmapSizeOptions.FromEmptyOptions());
    Irrelevant but just for info: The FileIcons class uses SHGetFileInfo and ExtractIconEx of the Shell32.dll to get the Icon.
    The interesting part is: After the call to
    Imaging.CreateBitmapSourceFromHIcon(...)
    Can I safely dispose the Icon the ImageSource was created from AND keep using the ImageSource afterwards?
    Thanks for the help,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,

  • After update to Firefox 15 it crashes after javascript call window.close();opener.alert('test');. Is this working as intended or is it a bug?

    After update to Firefox 15 it crashes after javascript call from a popup window.close();opener.alert('test');. Is this working as intended or is it a bug?

    According to the pages linked to the crash ID, there is a bug report on this.
    Does the crash occur as soon as you run those two lines of code, or after dismissing the alert()?
    If this is your application, why are you running script commands after calling window.close()? Could you avoid the problem by using an approach like this:
    <br>window.setTimeout(function(){opener.alert('test'},250);
    window.close();

    I agree with fury88. Try the code below it works fine!
    // **************** Java portion ************************
    public class Test {
    // Load the dll that exports functions callable from java
    static {System.loadLibrary("TestImp");}
    // Imported function declarations
    public native void print(String msg);
    public void Test() {
    public static void main(String [] args) {
    Test t = new Test();
    // Printf example
         t.print("->Testing JNI - Hello from c++\n");
    // **************** Windows portion - TestImp.dll **********************
    // Exported function
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_Test_print(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jstring msg)
    const char *str = env->GetStringUTFChars(msg, 0);
    printf("%s\n", str);
    env->ReleaseStringUTFChars(msg, str);
