Badly behaving iPad, out of warranty.  Options?

So my iPad has developed an annoying fault.  Basically, the reset button is acting like I'm constantly pressing it, when I'm not.  It asks me to go to sleep, and then can wake up from a sleep.  It also constantly takes screen grabs when I push the home button.  If I fiddle with the reset button a bit, the problem goes away.
My local Apple store, isn't run by Apple & there's nothing else in my state.
The problem isn't so annoying, that I want to buy another one & just junk the current model, but that seems to be the only option I've got.
Its especially annoying, in that this was a January 27th present for my birthday (last year), and I wasn't able to establish its purchase date, until after everything had expired.  (Good reason to keep those purchase slips people.  Apple doesn't keep track down to the week, apparently.)

Ok, when you say reset button are you refering to the sleep/power button or the home button?  In either case they are not user repairable.  So your options are (1) live wth it, (2) take/send to Apple authorized repair where they will repair or replace for a fee, (3) buy a new iPad.  The best option from my point of view is number 2.  Talk to Apple if there isn't a store close, http://www.apple.com/contact and see where you can send it for evaluaiton.  Then make the choice when they tell you what it will cost to repair or replace.

  • My sleep/wake button is stuck, out of warranty options?

Alright, my iPhone 4's sleep/wake button became stuck last Sunday, and hasn't popped out at. I have an appointment on Sunday with the Geniuses but since my phone is out warranty, I'm expecting my wallet to take a hit. Are there any options available in relation to repairing my phone instead of paying $200 for an out-of-warranty replacement?

you can always google to see if there's an iPhone repair shop near you and see what they charge.....

Hi, my ipad 1 is beyond repair and this has been confirmed by an Apple partner.
I understand that because Apple dont repair that for a fee I can send this ipad to apple and get a like for like model.
How do I do this please? Can I do it direct or do I need to go through an apple shop/authorised partner? What is the cost and do I ned any of the orignal paperwork?
    Andy

The iPad 1 and 2 are the same price, $249 in the US, £206.44 here in the UK (it's the same price whichever model iPad 1 it is).

You can also try typing in your iPad's serial number (it's on the back of the iPad) here, and that might give you a button to 'set up a repair'

  • What are the support or replacement options for my out of warranty phone?

My beloved 3G, that I use now as a jump drive and an iPod, just died. Dead dead. No response from any buttons, no reset ability, no restoring... Nothing, other than if i charge it it gets really hot. Really really hot.
I have purchased two MacBooks, four iPhones and one iPad over the past three years for myself and my family, and I am wondering what support apple will offer me for my new doorstop. I know it won't be free and I understand that..... But????? Anything? Anyone know? Can I upgrade? Replace? Repair?
    Thanks in advance.

There is nothing special provided in this regard regardless how many Apple products you have purchased over the last 3 years.
Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warrant "repair" price, which pays for an exchange for the same model at a significantly reduced price off what was the full retail sales price. The cost is $199 plus applicable sales tax and the exchange will include a 90 day warranty. This does not require signing a new two year contract with AT&T. This will be for another 3G - the same color and storage capacity. Not sure if Apple offers this for an iPhone that is no longer activated with AT&T, but as already provided, there will be no charge at an Apple store to have a diagnostic check run on your iPhone to determine where the problem lies. If only the battery, Apple has a price to replace the battery only, or you can use a 3rd party for this, or try to do it yourself if you are so inclined.

  • Ipad battery replaced out of warranty now screen not working.

I had my first generation Ipad replaced via the battery exchange in December 2012 and now the replacement's touchscreen is not working sometimes.  Do the ipads that come via the out of warranty service come with any warranty?

I can only offer my story. I bought a used 1st gen Iphone. PO had upgraded to 3G. After about 6 months for no reason my screen froze. Called Apple care and suggested I reboot, reinstall, etc.. None of it worked so AC suggested I go to the Apple Store and let them look at it. They told me they could replace w/a refurb @ $200.00, I could buy a new 3G @ $400.00, or I could get a third party to repair it. I mentioned to the Apple guy about the reports of the screen going dead on some phones and he said my phone fell outside the serial numbers that were affected. A little upset, I called AC again and just pushed a little more. I told the guy since it was a mnufacturers defect but my phone was out of warranty I would go half on a refurb at $100.00. He said wait a minute, came back had me send my phone to them and they sent me a replacement phone free. Talk nice to the guys and they will try to help. I said so what I have here now is a very expensive paper weight, is that right? That's when I said I'd go halves on a refurb. I guess they took pity on me. Hope it works out for you.

  • Ebay (Apple) refurb ipad eligible for out of warranty service?

I bought a refurbished ipad off of the apple ebay store. I am looking into insurance for it (family ipad) but wondered if it is eligible for Apple's Out of Warranty Service. Anyone know?

    According to the following:
    www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
"Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service."

  • Replace ipad broken screen out of warranty

I saw somewhere that Apple might replace an iPad that is out of warranty for a discounted price of $299 for an iPad3?  Is this accurate and how do I go about proceeding with this, as the Apple Care Support wont even answer me because my one free yr of support is up (as of last month!)?

Will the out of warranty coverage cover water damage?
    Thanks

  • My iPad screen won't rotate. The rotation lock is not on and it is out of warranty. What should I do?

My iPad screen won't rotate. The rotation lock is not on and it is out of warranty. I downloaded a gyroscope app and it says that I am always at 0 degrees. What should I do?

    Hi,
There are three things you can do.
    1) Check the function of the side switch - in the Settings app, under General.
    2) Try a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
    3) If this fails, take it to an Apple Store.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!

  • Out-of-Warranty Repair Shipping

    Hi all,
A friend of mine has recently sent away an iPad for an out-of-warranty repair, though in the process neither Apple or Australia Post have a record of the whereabouts of the iPad. I would just like to establish who is reponsible for the whereabouts of the product once it has been surrendered to Australia Post, especially given it was prepaid post item (Apple pays, though is paid through their online system) and there was no option to include extra cover.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Living in the US and not knowing Australian law, I would guess the responsibility is the Post, unless they delivered the item to Apple and they lost it.  In the US the USPS is responsible until delivery takes place.  But there is always the caveate to insure and register the item so the sender has records of its shipping...not sure if you have that capability in Aus.

  • Badly cracked ipad mini what do i do? help?

Ok, so about a year ago, I dropped my ipad mini on the concrete ground. It left the screen with the bottom left corner and bottom center cracked very badly. The corner has a small piece of the screen (not just the protective glass, but the actual white screen) taken out. There are multiple tiny little cracks surrounding the corner and the bottom center of my ipad mini, and a few larger cracks spread from the top to the bottom. The back of the ipad mini has a couple scratches on it, but are harmless so I am not worried about that. My concern is focused on the screen. I know that I should send my ipad mini in to Apple for repair, but have ABSOLUTELY no clue as to how i should do that. Please, it would be a huge help and greatly appreciated if someone could explain to me the process of sending my ipad mini in for repair, and what happens during and after they fix it. I really need help and dont know how I should go about this.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
The warranty will apply to the country of purchase. And if there is a problem needing repair you have to return it to the country of purchase.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th, Air
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

  • What is the cost of replacing iphone 5(broken screen, out of warranty) with a higher model maybe 5s? In India.

    Hi,
Yesterday i dropped my phone and the screen got shattered. The phone is working fine. but the screen is cracked.
After searching through the internet, i found out the following options:
    Getting Out-of-warranty Replacement.
Getting the screen repaired by Apple Store.
I am located in India and had  bought the phone from India only.
    So my questions are?
What is the cost of getting an out-of warranty replacement for iPhone 5?
Can i get a replacement for a higher model of iPhone( maybe 5s or upcoming iPhone 6). If yes, how much extra i'll have to pay?
Is it possible to repair the broken screen in India? if yes, what will be the tentative cost?
    Thanks.

iPhone 5 screen replacement at an Apple store is ~$120.
The price of getting the screen replaced in the US on the 5 is $150, and it is only available on the US as of now.
iPhone 5 screen replacement at an non-official Apple retailer is $75-90
Should the OP decide to go that route, he will be forfeiting future support from Apple, both in and out of warranty
    A new/refurb 16GB iPhone 5 from Apple is ~$400
A used 16GB iPhone 5 on Craigslist or Swappa is ~$275-350
Apple no longer sells the iPhone 5. They keep a number of units on hand for out of warranty service, which is $269 in the US.
Buying from Craiglist (or on-line) is usually risky as the phones turn out to be not what they are advertised as.

  • How does the Out of Warranty process work?

My iPad mini decided it wanted to take a bath the other day and now it's done for.  Left it in a bag of rice for a week and it will not turn on.  I was doing some research and saw that it can be replaced under the Out of Warranty fee for $219 but didn't see too many details on how to go about doing that.  Can I take it into a store or do I have to mail it somewhere, and if so, where?

The easiest is if you live near a store. Call and make an appointment. take in your device and talk to them. As I understand it, you pay the fee and walk out with a refurbished replacement.

When you talk to the store you can verify the procedure with them.

  • How to go about getting screen replacement - out of warranty

    Hi,
My T61p is out of warranty, and the LCD had begun displaying white pressure marks and is generally alot dimmer. Whilst i'm comfortable using computers, i'm not comfortable replacing hardware parts myself. How would i go about getting the LCD replaced and possibly upgraded from WXGA to WSXGA+? Can this be done through Lenovo, or would i be better off looking for a third party company to do this for me? If it can be done through Lenovo (which tbh i would prefer), how would i go about arranging this?
Thanks in advance for any replies

As for Lenovo not advertising, not making it easy to get post-warranty / out-of-warranty repairs, this mostly boils down to a cost to return value issue.
For every possible failure of any possible hardware-combination, you'd need at least one (bare minimum, say more likely 4-5) at every repair shop who stocks their own replacement parts, and at least twice as many at any central hub supplying said repair shops. This costs money, and as the hardware gets older, less and less demand is being put forth for work done on said hardware - hence the replacement parts take up valuable shelfspace, and is considered a too high cost vs. value.
This is the same for any type of product, really. If you buy a washing machine, it'll get harder to get parts for it after 5 years than after 2-3 - simply because maybe the only place that still has the parts is the main facility, or maybe the parts aren't even produced yet.
It's also based on a life-expectancy of the equipment - computer equipment, while more than able to function beyond 5 years of use, have a limited value after short time, simply because the development of new, more powerful parts continue. A top-of-the-line computer from 3 years ago will be surpassed by a medium to low-end machine today, for half the cost, or even less.
Hence, you get third-party service centers, eBay, etc. which can help you if your old machine have a problem - it's usually not that hard to get hold of Lenovo-parts, simply because they tend to keep design over more than one model-specter, and they sell a LOT of each model, mainly to business clients, which tend to exchange their hardware on 3-5 year cycle, depending.
I don't really think it's uncommon to see manufacturers not supporting, or providing repair options after the models' shelf-life has been terminated, and mainly all warranty-services are off. This is the same for HP, Dell, Lenovo, Apple etc. Of course they CAN repair it, for a steep fee, but it's most often not worth the cost, and very few people pay it - instead opting for doing it themselves, or having a local PC repair-shop do it.
At least, both Lenovo and to some degree HP have very good manuals available, including a full tear-down of the hardware.
