  • How would I create an USB Barcode Scanner Listener using Adobe AIR?

    I want to create a USB barcode scanner listener that would read in the scanned barcode, and place the barcode in a field in my AIR App even if the program wasn't focused on that particular field in the App.  If the client was using the application at the time for something else the scan would be buffered in AIR till requested or the AIR App has been idle for x period of time where upon the field would be brought into focus.
    How would I go about this (I'm developing on windows)  Was hoping for a USB solution within AIR but not fussy at all if I have to go outside AIR to solve this problem.  Java, Flex, ActionScript, Flash, C, C++, C#, VB (currently I've developed the rest of the App using Adobe AIR and JavaScript)
    I thought after some research that I could make a Java App (if all else fails) that listens and buffers the input and passes it along using a socket but JUSB doesn't work on Windows properly.
    I'm not stuck on any one particular implementation or idea just want to get development underway so...  Any ideas? or suggestions would be awesome.  I've googled a lot but haven't found any examples or solid suggestions, so any URL pointing to that information would be great too, if you know of a good one, then I'd be able to read up on any suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Marty

    Thanks Joe,
    Just for anyone else.  I bought a Metologic Scanner - VoyagerCG.  I was trying to get it to work using Java USB for a bit with no luck.  But if you get this scanner or one like it, it can be configured as a Virtual COM Port.  Which is very very easy in Java to set up as a listener and use sockets to transfer the data and listen within AIR.
    This PDF has links to drivers and instructions if this is useful to anyone.

  • Adobe form barcode scanner input

    I made an Adobe form with X Pro.  The purpose of the form is to inventory equipment.  I use a barcode scanner to enter serial numbers into the form.  When I scan the barcode (Code 39) of an item the serial number entered into the form is truncated.  To ensure that the scanner was reading the barcode correctly I scanned a code while having notepad open, it input the entire serial number correctly.  I did the same thing with Word and the serial was also input correctly.  Why is the form truncating my serial number?  I can type more in the field if I so wish so I know that a character limit is not the issue.  I checked all of the text box's properties but see nothing incorrect or limiting.
    Thanks for the help,
    Goob

    Sorry for never replying to your post.  The problem is: I do not know why this is happening.
    Your last sentence "on the Text Area the scan seems to stop before entering all digits but when I scroll back through, they are accurate" makes me think.  As I wrote earlier, "A barcode scanner is basically just an input device like a keyboard", but very much faster.  Somehow it seems that the software acts like it is encountering the carriage return before all the data digits have been processed.
    But somehow it also seems to correct itself in a text area that allows multiple lines, but not in a single-line text field.
    Yet that does not happen with my barcode scanner, but with yours and the o/p's.
    Very confusing!  Does anybody else have some thoughts on this?

  • I am running windows 8.1  do i need Adobe Flash Player?

    I am running windows 8.1. i am not to sure wether i managed to install thr R.T  update. Anyway my Mcfee anti virus scanner is saying its critical that i install Adobe Flash Player. What do I do? I am not to clever wit computers so I find this all abit above my head.

    With Windows 8 & 8.1, Flash Player is embedded by Microsoft... for Internet Explorer only. It must be updated through Windows Update. There are Windows files that prevent updating it from here. If however, you use another browser, then you can update it with the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers), but if you use Google Chrome, it has its own built in, like IE does now.
    Windows 8.1 unfortunately, installs IE11, which is the worst browser in computing history because of three words:
    "User-Agent Strings"
    That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
    Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser (Read more here).
    User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video.
    Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome).
    Trouble is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
    The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11.
    YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play.
    Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
    Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of content at the websites you visit and applications you use.
    They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE...
    The Problem with THAT is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
    I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
    ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that, because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Ongoing problem with flash player and FF..cannot install adobe Flash 11 with FF 16

    I have tried everything.
    I cannot install any Adobe flash product
    I was using Flash 10 and suddenly it stopped working.
    this happened before..several times in fact.
    I delete and re install but this tim it still crashed.
    so I decided to try Flash 11... windows 8 won't even let me run the installer.
    when I try to install it as a FF plug in it fails.
    sends me to do it manually.
    manually means using the installer program which Windows 8 won,t let me run
    I am stuck.
    Is there an alternative to adobe flash player?
    because I am tired of this.
    if there is no alternative, then I will fins another browser.

  • Adobe Flash Player / HP Solution Center Problems!

    Hello
    Last night everything was working fine. Until I installed the latest Flash Player 10.1.53.64 RC7. Upon reboot my HP Solution Center was corrupted triggered a pop up error and tried to get me to reinstall it. I did a restore back to earlier in the day and proved it was Adobe Flash Player. My HP Solution Center then worked great. Tried installing the latest Adobe Flash Player again and same problem. So I did another restore and everything is working great still. What conflict or what could be causing this bug in Adobe Flash Player 10.1.53.64 RC7 and HP Solution Center? Are you working on this and will there be a patch soon? Are you aware of this conflict?

  • Suddenly, I get a message to instal Adobe Flash. Will not install

    I have been at a site for a few years and this morning. Suddenly, when I tried to get on, I got the message about Adobe Flash. I went through the instructions 3 times. The program states it has installed. I checked all forum articles and removed existing AF. I tried again, with same result. Even the shockwave flash in plugs is gone and does not show up when searched for. This has happened in the distant past.

    Please note that if the site has ads, the warning may be an advertisement. We suggest using out plug-in checker and scanning your computer.
    Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
    Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
    If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
    To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • Barcode scanner input

    Hi .
    I have an application that needs to receive bar code scanner input (the DS6707 from motorola). This application also discusses with 3 or 4 boards that run in parallel (using serial port com). So I have at least 5 threads that are running in parallel: one for each port com, one supervisor, and the main for the user interface.
    I created a control to get the data coming from the barcode scanner, but sometimes I lose some number on my barcode, or sometimes I receive ‘?’ instead of a number.
    If I create a thread that read the standard input, it works, I always receive all my numbers, but the problem is that I have the standard input that is visible and I don’t want.
    I tried to used keyboard methods from the windows library , but I don’t know how to proceed.
    Thanks for your help.

    I have a question about a keyboard wedge scanner input.
    I have a single panel with several text boxes placed in a grid.
    I post the output from 8 flash programmers in the boxes.
    I have a single wide text box below these to display general program status.
    My problem is when I scan the barcodes from the panel array, all data goes
    through the Upper Left text box. i want the data to go through the big box on the bottom.
    The reason I am using the text box in the upper left, is because that is where the data went
    when I scanned the bar codes. I was desperate to get the project moving forward.
    And the StdIO window caused too many problems.
    Question,  How do I move the cursor to the other text box ? I have tried many Set / Get
    Attribute parameters.  If there exists any "how-To" example code I would be grateful.
    void ReadSerialNumber1 (char* BigBuffer9)
     statspanelHandle  = TESTER_DialogGetSubPanelCVIHandle(&StatsHandle);
     statspanelHandle  = GetCtrlVal (StatsHandle, STATSPANEL_TEXTBOX_2, BigBuffer9);
     DisplayPanel(StatsHandle);
     fprintf(Stream1,"Serial Number..~%s~\n",BigBuffer9);
    code in main section
      sprintf(LittleBuffer1,"\n  -- SCAN Serial Number Nest 1-- ");
      WriteTextBox1(LittleBuffer1);
      PN_Size = strlen(LittleBuffer1);
      for(x=0;x<128;x++){ LittleBuffer1[x] = '\0';}
      PN_Size = strlen(LittleBuffer1);
      while(PN_Size != 10){
         int Stat_Val;
         Delay(0.5);
      ReadSerialNumber1(LittleBuffer1);
         PN_Size = strlen(LittleBuffer1);
      if(TEST_CHECK_BREAK) break;
      if(PN_Size == 10)  Ready_Go = 1;
      strcpy(sSerialNum1,LittleBuffer1);
      strcpy(Scan_Buffer[0],LittleBuffer1);
      if(!strcmp(ModuleType2,"DSM")) strcpy(Scan_Buffer[1],LittleBuffer1);
      ResetTextBox2();
      if(TEST_CHECK_BREAK) break;
      sprintf(LittleBuffer1,"____%s____",Scan_Buffer[0]);
      WriteTextBox1(LittleBuffer1);
      Ready_Go = 0;

  • Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation - Facebook

    When I look at pictures in facebook and click out of the pictures I have a message that pops up every time and sometimes shuts down Firefox. It says:
    Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation. The following application on your computer or network: [object] is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location: www.facebook.com. To let this application communicate with the Internet, click settings. You must restate the application after changinn your settings.
    I have run my virus scanner and have not picked anything up. My son downloaded music frost and wire frost (or something like those) and I deleted them before he downloaded anything but it somehow changed my settings of the search provider and home page on firefox and now this happens. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

    I think what I would do first, since there is a question on what was downloaded/Installed. Go to Control Panel/Programs & Features and take a look to see if any of those programs are Installed. If you see any that you don't want, remove them from there and restart your computer.
    AVG can miss malware and don't find everything. I would go to www.malwarebytes.org and DOWNLOAD and SAVE to your Desktop the Free version. Then update it if it doesn't automatically. Then close the window.
    Close all browser windows and Disable AVG. Then open Malwarebytes(MBAM) and run a full scan. If anything is found follow their instructions for removing it. When that is done, run a Quick scan with it.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb
    Also, what pop up are you receiving? Who is it coming from? What Settings are you speaking of?

  • Can I use a barcode scanner with LR?

    Hello -
    I am taking some school photographs and need to change the file name of each image to the registration number of the pupil.  Is there a way of using a barcode scanner with LR to scan the code of the pupil's reg no and then automatically change the filename?
    I saw a thread here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/799772 - but couldn't find the fields etc referred to.
    While I'm here - can I download LR 4 SDK as part of Creative Cloud subscription?
    Many thanks

  • Adobe Flash & Javascript don't work even though Enabled

    Ever since what I think was either a Firefox upgrade (I don't know which one) or installation of Quicktime, my Adobe Flash Plugin is perpetually crashed and I cannot play any Flash content on any website. All that displays in place of the video is a gray screen with the sad-face Lego icon and the message: “The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed. Please reload the page to try again.” (See attached image.) But it will not resolve when reloaded.
    No Flash videos on any sites work. HTML5 videos work on YouTube when tested, but non-HTML5 videos won't work.
    Also, my Javascript does not seem to be working since at least some displays requiring javascript don't work. Sometimes the display just doesn't work, and sometimes I get a message that javascript is disabled and must be enabled, but it is already enabled (set to “true” in about:config).
    I have spent days scouring every help forum entry I can find on troubleshooting Flash Player and Javascript. Everything on my end seems to be in order and I cannot find or fix either problem. I think it is possible the issue could have its roots in the fact that Javascript seems to not be working which may be preventing Flash Player content from working...??
    Also, Flash content does work in I.E. but not in Firefox (I do not have Chrome installed so did not test in Chrome). I have too many window tabs open in Firefox and can't switch to I.E. (nor do I like to use I.E.).
    PLEASE HELP as this is crippling for very important work deadlines I have.
    This is what else I know and have tried:
    I have a Toshiba Satellite C75D-A Laptop;
    Processor: AMD A6-5200 APU with Radeon HD Graphics; x64; 2.00 Ghz;
    RAM: 8 MB;
    OS: 64-bit system; Windows 8.1 (but some auto-check utilities detect it as 8.0 because it was upgraded.);
    Graphics Card: “Desktop Graphics” System – AMD Radeon HD 8400 (0x9830);
    Installed Graphics Driver Version: AMD 13.352.1004.1007 (Driver Date: 4/22/2014)
    My Device Manager graphics driver updater states: “driver software is up to date.”
    From the AMD website: the graphics driver auto-detect utility recommended the AMD Catalyst Driver (amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-without-dotnet45-win8.1-64bit.exe) I tried installing this driver, but it won't install. After trying to install, I got a message stating: “We are unable to find a driver for your system.” But Device Manager states I have a current driver, and my graphics card & driver seem to be working fine, so I do not believe this is part of the issue.
    I am using Latest Firefox version 35.0.1; and
    Using Latest Flash Player: 32-bit NPAPI Plug-in Version: 16.0.0.296; designated: “always activate” (Downloaded new update several times, including fresh install after uninstall; system & web address icons indicate Flash is enabled).
    I turned off hardware acceleration in FF Tools>Options>Advanced>General
    I disabled WebGL as explained here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
    I am using Ad-Block Plus which has never affected things in the past. I have not tried starting FF in Safe Mode because I believe I will lose all open tabs and not be able to recover them (I may have over 200 open). But disabling add-ons has no effect (I disabled all except for Sessions Manager in case of a crash). (My No-Script has been disabled for at least six months.)
    I have Windows Media Player and Quicktime installed.
    Quicktime is most recent upgrade (7.7.6) so should not be a problem according to:
    “QuickTime plugin takes over Flash” at:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Disabling_Protected_Mode_in_Flash_11.3
    (note underscores in place of spaces in string; underscores not insertable here)
    Disabling Quicktime had no effect in the prior version of FF (ver. 35.0), but in latest FF ver. 35.0.1, Flash videos only display a plain (blank) gray screen instead of the sad-faced icon and crash message.
    (I tried to uninstall Quicktime altogether, but was not able to due to Error codes 2502 & 2503. I tried troubleshooting that as well with no luck using methods successful for other programs, including here:
    http://www.fixkb.com/2014/01/error-2503-and-2502-when-uninstalling-on-windows-8.html;
    & here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/re-internal-error-codes-2502-and-2503-for/ba5f2145-aa6e-4cc0-81a7-e4346f43b698.)
    Disabling my FF theme and using the default brought back the sad-faced icon and crash message in the place of videos on some YouTube pages, but not other YouTube pages (where video was still blank gray screen). It also enabled a still Flash image (an ad) to display on a different website page that previously had a Flash Plugin crash message. I have been using this same theme for a couple of years without previous issue. While turning it off did generate an effect on some still imagery, it didn't fix the video problem.
    I tried Disabling Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 as explained here:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Disabling_Protected_Mode_in_Flash_11.3
    (note underscores in place of spaces in string; underscores not insertable here).
    It did not solve the issue.
    I also deleted all storage & data in Flash Player as advised. This had no effect either.
    I've tried all solutions I've been able to find and am at a loss for what to try next. Please help and advise ASAP. Thank you!!

    I truely admire the efforts that have been made to make this work.
    "“We are unable to find a driver for your system.” "
    For it not installing, you need to follow these instructions to install them: see the comments: [http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_devices/windows-10-atiamd-display-drivers/50944d10-dde3-4e08-8244-d54eb2b1e7de] --> take warning though it looks like it has caused issues for others as well.
    Since it was working for some youtube videos and not others, there might be an issue with a particular video codec. DO you have OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. plugin?
    Is it possible to try Safe Mode after saving your session with [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager Addon]? IT would test hardware acceleration in Firefox.
    </blockquote>
    Thank you, guigs2! Sorry for my delayed reply...I didn't realize I hadn't gotten back to you. Update is that I did try a whole slew of other troubleshooting steps including starting FF in safe mode, to no avail. However, I was FINALLY (after months) able to solve this problem just today by pure chance!
    The problem was that hardware acceleration was enabled in the Flash settings. I had not been able to turn it off because I didn't have access to the Flash Player settings as long as the crash error message was visible, which was all the time! Today, by a sheer fluke, I saw a static picture in place of the crash message on a Flash video. I snagged the opportunity to call up the settings and turn off hardware acceleration, and it fixed the problem for my whole browser! This has been a frustrating issue because I did not have access to the settings utility as long as I had the crash message, which was always, so my Flash was crippled without the ability for me to fix it until pure luck gave me this window of opportunity.
    Does anyone know another way to access the settings utility if this ever happens again in the future? I could not find a way. (Incidentally, I had tried disabling hardware acceleration via my graphics driver settings, but it didn't fix the problem.) We need Adobe to allow some other way to access the Flash Player settings utility when this problem arises since they aren't accessible when there is a static crash message.
    Thanks again!

  • PDF Portfolio without Adobe Flash

    In Acrobat, is there anyway to create a PDF Portfolio, or otherwise combine separate PDF files into one, without using Adobe Flash. Our IT people do not want us using Flash because of security concerns (sorry Adobe).

    Basically, no. The "Portfolio" of Acrobat 9, X and XI *is* the Flash UI wrapped in the PDF.
    You could approach it in the manner that Adobe took with Acrobat 8.
    Again, the core content would be the attached files. The PDF with the attachments is a traditional PDF.

    I try to extract rename AIR3.0 to AIR2.6 and copy to the same location as AIR2.6 in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5" and
    try to extract and add AIR3.0  to the same location as AIR2.6 in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5"
    But it's not work, I don't see publish for runtime AIR3.0.
    Thanks,
    Porawee

    Ok dasessig, I will explain step by step with my solved for WIN version reference from original http://blog.prevail.co.nz/2011/06/21/overlaying-air2-7-in-flash-cs5/.
    * I have installed only Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5, not need CS5.0, I don't test in OSX version but i think it's same as WIN version.
       1.  Download and extract the latest AIR 3.0 SDK.  and extrack to AIR2.6.
            Note : I got this file "air3_rc1_sdk_win_090611.zip" and extrack files to "AIR2.6"
       2.  Download and install Adobe Flash CS5.5.
       3.  Closed Flash Professional CS5.5.
       4.  Place the folder in either of the following locations:
              WIN: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\
              OSX: Applications/Adobe Flash CS5.5/
            Note : It's will replace WIN: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\AIR2.6
       5.  Create new folder name "AIR3.0" in "Adobe Flash CS5.5/Common/Configuration/ActionScript 3.0/"
       6.  Browse to the Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5.5\AIR2.6\frameworks\libs\air\ and copy airglobal.swc.
