Basic file movement question?

I'm on DW CS4. Have a very basic question regarding file movement that I can't seem to resolve. In the files panel on the right I have created a folder. Within that folder I have saved a bunch of files with the same name but different numbers after them. When I go into the folder to access one of the files they never stay in the numeric order I have assigned to them. I try and drag the numbered files up or down to get them back into numeric order but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone please explain this basic step in file management to get the files to line up where I want them in the file category on the right? Thanks for your time.

Besided sorting, when using numbers as part of the file name, you need to make sure you have at least two digits if your are going to have more than ten files. Start numbering with 01, 02, 03, 04 and so on. If not, the files will sort like the following:
file1
file10
file2
file20
file21
file3
file32
file4
And if you have more than a hundred, you will need to start with 001.

Basic Flash movie questions from a Flex coder

I've coded several Flex applications (I'm a programmer by
trade) for the last 6 months. Now I have a new project to do with
Flash, and I'm mighty confused - as I don't know much about Flash
and its timelines, etc.
I've been given a bunch of FLV files - movies from a video
camera like you see on Youtube. I'd like to add some logic to them.
Do I create a new Flex or Flash project and somehow embed the
FLV file?
I read that the they can attach "labels" to timelines in a
movie and that I can react to the labels being triggered using
event handlers. Can I programmatically add labels to an existing
FLV movie?
So after all is said and done, I'm guessing I would compile
it using MXMLC if it is a Flex project. But what if it were a Flash
project, what is the compiler? In addition, can I simply code the
whole thing as an actionscript (.as) file and compile it using a
Flash compiler?

I wouldn't embed the files. This is OK if they don't include
audio that's synched to the video, but otherwise will be
problematic. You'll get better performance overall by linking to
the external FLV. To 'add logic' you'll need to us cue points.
These can either be added via ActionScript or embedded into the FLV
using something like Flash Video Encoder. You can use the cue
points to trigger whatever actions you require.

Basic file moving question

i must be numb. embarassed to say that i need a little help in understanding the easiest way to move songs into (1) a static play list, and (2) over to the ipod.
Here is the set up - I have about 10K songs in itunes and I need to go through the entire list and pick about 1000 songs to put into a static play list. I am using a wireless keyboard/mouse combo, (like a trackball) so my drag/drop capabilites using the cntrl button are pretty clumsy. very difficult to use highlighting 1000 songs. I was hoping that I could use the check boxes as a way to identify songs that I wanted to put into the statis playlist (folder) and then somehow click a button (or a similar) to say that I want to move all the checked files into my playlist. is that possible? any other options?
*one footnote here, i understand how to set up smart playlists, but the group of songs I want to aggregate has no common thread (or primary key). So i have to set up a static play list and manually choose the songs.
somehwat similar, i have a question on how to move a select group of songs (lets say 4000) over to the ipod (vs just a playlist in itunes as discussed above). i am hoping that i might be able to leverage the check box as well.

Select the iPod in iTunes.
Select *Sync Music*.
Pick Selected playlist in the drop down and pick the playlist(s) you want to put onto the iPod.
Add or delete from the selected playlist(s) to put on or remove from the iPod.

File Movement Question

Last evening I mistakenly moved the icon for my iTunes folder from my home directory to the root directory - I meant to copy it to an external HD. The folder icon and apparently the data moved immediately to the root directory just like it would have if I'd moved it to my desktop or another folder in my home directory. When I tried to move it back into my home directory, I was ultimately informed that there isn't enough disk space to perform the copy command. Why won't this folder just move back to where it was instead of requiring a copy action?

While we're on the subject, is there a way for me to set file permissions "universally" so that a document that I create in my personal account - perhaps a spreadsheet - by default can be transferred to my wife's account on the same machine without her having to open it "read only" and then save a copy in her account? I can do this in DropBox (I think) but I'm shying away from using DB as a mail service.

Basic File Move creates Copy

Hello,
There seems to be different behavior moving files.
I just want to simply move them to a new space, not make an entire copy of them.
Example,
Moving files from desktop to a System/Document folder in the Finder.
After the move, the files are always copied from Desktop vs a simple move.
Is there a system preference that controls this by choice?

I just did an experiment having two Finder windows open.
Moving a folder or file from one window to another makes a straight move w/o a copy.
So the action of moving a Desktop file/folder to the Finder's system of folders automatically makes a copy for the new spot, and leaves original behind on Desktop.
Not sure what's meant 'Where You cannot Delete", when the source is the same machine.
Back in the day of using a PC, 6-years or so,
there was always the option for a direct move, or copy.

Basic File Sharing question between user accounts on my iMac

I don't understand how to be able to share and download to one common folder among User Accounts on my iMac. I am trying to use a Clean Account as a test, and wanted to copy a file I downloaded from the web in one account into this clean account folder, and install the file.
I went to Sharing and thought I turn File Sharing on. Logged into the Clean account and Apple+I the folder, changing access priviledges to the folder. Then copy the file into the Clean User Account.
But it doesn't work that way. Can anyone help me understand sharing between accounts?

File Sharing is for sharing files between two different machines, not between different accounts on the same machine. If you want to share files on one machine, you just need to put them in a folder everyone has access to, like the /Users/shared folder. Also, don't go fooling around with folder permissions... that's a good way to mess things up. If I had a nickel for every time someone messed up their system using the "Apply to enclosed items" option when changing permissions, I'd be a rich man!

Basic Match Move Question

New to Tracking behaviors here so forgive any "dohs" !
I have a Background layer with a great point to Track .... an orange light on an object moving slowly in a straight line.
I apply the Match Move Behavior to the foreground layer, get the playhead to the first frame the light enters, position the tracking anchor on the light, move the Foreground to it's start position and track.
It works great ... except the foreground element doesn't know to enter and leave the frame as the light in the background does. It picks up the track after the light appears, and (of course) stops when the light leaves.
What's the best way to extend the motion into and out of the frame? I tried adding extra ketframes, but it messed up the great track I had before!

In this situation you do offset tracking, where you switch the tracking to a different feature and Motion calculates the offset between the the previous feature and the new one, keeping things smooth.
Look for another tracking feature that is visible after the light and is at a similar distance from the camera. Go to the last frame of valid tracking from the light. In the Inspector, toggle on the 'Offset Track' checkbox for the Match Move behavior. Then, position the tracker on the new tracking feature and hit the 'Analyze' button. The behavior will track the new feature but offset the results to continue from where the light-based tracking left off.
Keep in mind, though, that any difference in the new feature's distance from the camera can result in a shift in the speed of your resulting animation, as further away objects will appear to move more slowly.
Last, make sure to turn the Offset Track option back off before you add any new trackers, as you don't want to start with them being offset.

How to set up a basic file sharing server for my small architectural business?

I have no idea if I have posted in the correct area as this is my first forum post within the apple support community!
I have been using a 21.5" imac running 10.6.8 for the past 5 years to run my small home based architectural design business. I have been using the internal hard drive & backing up the necessary data to a simple usb external hard drive. I am now looking to firstly purchase a new imac 27" retina and purchase new autocad lt 2015 for mac software. I am looking to have another imac (my old mac) running in conjunction with the new mac. I want both macs to be able to access the same data and am slightly unsure what is the best way to achieve this.....As my old mac is currently only running snow leopard and an old version of autocad for mac 2011 it wont run on any more recent OS. Essentially i believe I have 2 main options with this.... (1) I Accept that I have to purchase 2 no. autocad lt 2015 licences @ a cost of £2300. Or option (2), I only run autocad on the new mac as this will be the primary station and the old mac used for primarily for admin & accounts. I have also recently discovered that it is possible to rent autocad licences for £300p/a which may also be another option (3)!
I previously had a problem where my hard drive failed on my mac & lost all data on the internal hard drive, luckily I had been backing up all data regularly to my external hard drive and now loss occurred! Obviously with any new system I want to ensure that my data is safe!
I currently utilise about 250GB of data for business operations but this will obviously grow with time.
In the future I would like to have the option of potentially being able to access the network data remotely via macbook pro whilst abroad although at this stage this really isnt my primary objective. Although I believe I could achieve this through apple remote desktop.
I suppose I should provide some information with regard to the required speed of the system...I regularly open 50-100 photos at the same time totalling around 250-500MB. I would like the system to be able to handle this fairly easily.
I have been trawling through forums and to be honest they are totally confusing me. I have also spent time on the phone to the apple business team and have also discussed my objectives with a member of the apple team in store.
There have been various options advised to me and I really do not know which is the most appropriate route forward.
1 - Using a mac mini as the file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the mac mini to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
2 - Using a time capsule as a file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the TC to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
3 - Using the new mac hard drive and linking the 2 macs via thunderbolt (old mac does not have thunderbolt and so I guess I would need another new mac?!) and then backing up the data to a time capsule.
4 - Using a RAID based server and linking the 2 no. macs.
Sorry to ramble but any advice really would be greatly received!

I think with your scenario you should ask yourself, how complicated do you want the setup to be and how much time would you have to be able to resolve an issue should one occur with this setup.
All the options that have been advised would work but they come with complexity and therefore time.

option 1
Would be a way to achieve what you want, it would centralise your files and you would only need to backup your file server (as long as all the files you wanted backed up were on it). This could be achieved either using the client and sharing various folders or using Server which would give you more options than you would possibly need.
option 2
This is exactly like option 1 except that you wouldn't have to administer another mac however you may limit any future growth.
option 3
This option I probably wouldn't pick, you could achieve this with firewire and use a firewire to thunderbolt adapter (saves you having to buy a new iMac)
option 4
This option would, depending on your RAID level, give you disk redundancy but remember you would still need to back this up, as RAID is NOT a backup solution.
I would also ask is there a pressing need to keep the old iMac in service and complicating things by having a server / NAS? Could you not just transfer all your information over to this and continue with the one backup? I would say that doing it this was would be the simplest way of achieving what you want from what I can take from your question.
As for remotely accessing your data, if you have the right hardware the way to achieve this would be to use a VPN and connect back to your data. However a potentially easier way for you ,would be to use a service like logmein or teamviewer to connect back.

but I want to move those files to DONE directory which is loaded to table successfully and move those files to ERROR directory which is not loaded to table.

Suppose E:\ODIFILES is my folder where no. of files are present i.e. file1.txt, file2.txt, file3.txt, file4.txt, file5.txt, file6.txt and file1,file2,file4,file6 are same structured and file3,file5 is of different structured.In one interface I want to load the values of files to a table.so I develope a package,which loads all same structured files values to the table,but file3 and file5 is not loaded as it is different structured.
My question is after interface which files loaded to the table I want to move those files to E:\DONE folder and which file are not loaded to table I want to move those files to E:\ERROR folder.How to know which files are loaded to table or not???and how to perform the move of files???

Aha, you already have QuickTime. Unfortunately, Firefox didn't find it. Can you try the method described in this thread (deleting a file and having Firefox re-generate it) and see whether it works for you?

QUIKE TIME FROM FILE .MOV looks like tracking is messed up???????

HELLO I really need help with this i just started using quick time so i could view my videos file .mov i could'nt view before but now using quick time when i play it the sound is normal but the video it self it like jumps around and has lines through parts of it. It looks like when a vcr tape needs the tracking ajusted so its hard to view if anyone can help with this i would be so great full....Thanks so much

Asynchronous file move

I want to modify vi, in which one of the cases does a simple file move. It is moving video files, and in some cases they can be fairly large, in which case the vi halts until the move is complete. I want to modify it if possible to start the move, but have the parent vi continue to execute while the move is happening. I do want to maintain error cluster info and error handling of the move itself. I'm wondering what the best approach is.
My current idea is to create another vi in which the contents is nothing but the move, get a reference to this vi, and launch it asynchronously using the vi reference. It can have the error handler vi within it to catch errors. Is there a better approach anyone else has used?

This is a reasonable approach. However, once you launch the VI dynamically you will need to have the File Move VI notify the main VI of any errors. The error I/O that you get from the VI Server functions will basically tell you whether it was launched successfully. Since you won't want to wait until the subVI is done you will need to invoke the VI with "Wait until completion" set to False. This means the subVI-launching VI will return immediately.
There may be other ways, depending on the structure of your program. For instance, if you're using a state machine you can have the file write out in small chunks. All you would need to do is to return to that state to write out the next chunk. You can keep track of where you are in the file using a shift register.

I don't understand your question. Are you saying you want to burn a movie to a DVD? If so, you need software that will do that. iDVD can do that, but it is only available as part of the retail iLife 11 disk. That is still available from different online resellers. Or, there is Roxio toast – an excellent burn software, but not cheap. And it does not offer the options iDVD offers. Or you can Google for burn software for Mac; there are quite a few out there - some are free others will cost money.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

Getting error 8 during a file move with shortcuts

I am using the file move vi to move files and shortcuts from one folder to another. This works file when I am trying to move files. but when I try to move a shortcut (a file with a extension of *.lnk) the move vi fails and gets a error 8 (permission error). Why is this happening? I am assuming that a shortcut is a file, so I am treating it as a file and therefore expecting the move vi to move the shortcut from one folder to another.

It could be that this is related to a bug that has already been discovered and reported. Our R&D deparment is working on it. When LabVIEW copies or moves a shortcut, it actually makes a copy of the file that is the target of the shortcut. However, it adds the ".lnk" extension to the end of the file name. This causes the new file to show up like a shortcut in Windows, but it is not a shortcut. If you rename the file and remove the ".lnk", then the file (the target of the original shortcut) will open without problem.
One workaround it to use the System Exec VI to copy the file from the Windows command line. See the attached VIs.
