BASIC question: Getting video to start out paused in stead of playing?

Hello
I DO NOT KNOW FLASH - let's just get that straight. I do not know actionscript, and I'm not familiar ith the interface.
But I do know how to open a document, drag a .flv into the frame, add a playback skin, and save a swf for use on a web page.
The problem is that the videos all start playing on default. I'd like the user to have to hit the "play" button to play the video so that they are not inundated with sound when the page loads.
Any ideas here? Is this so simple that I should not have asked?
heh
Thanks,
-------------S

I found it. . .
It's in the "component inspector" in Flash. Under the "Parameters" tab, select "autoPlay" and make sure it is set to "false".
I used the "publish" setting in the File menu and  I took the scripts and object code form the resulting HTML page and pasted them into my web page. It seems to work well.
This is for Flash CS4. Earlier versions do it differently, so you may need to keep looking. And they may change it (again) in future versions.
Good luck!

  • Chat Video quality starts out fine, then fades ...

My video starts out good, then after a minutes or so, the picture gets pixelated and the audio garbled. The person on the other end has no such issues and can see/hear me just fine.
In iChat, my bw is set to 'none'. In system preferences, my Quicktime streaming speed is 1.5 Mpbs.
    Thanks,

    Hi GDykes,
OK Imagine that Connection speed from your ISP is like an empty freeway. You can go full tilt (upto that road's speed limit)
Bandwidth is like a busy freeway where you only get to go as the bit you are in allows.
Reducing the Bandwidth in iChat or in the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab is like a vehicle that has a maximum speed that is slower than the speed possible on the freeway.

  • [SOLVED]Cant get video drivers sorted out on openbox install

I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver with a ATI radeon 7850 and would like to avoid using the catalyst driver unless it's my last resort. I'm doing an install with lightdm and openbox. I followed that wiki which basically says to install the driver and it should autodetect my resolution with no problems. Well I've been stuck at 1024x768 for a day now.
I went through the xorg log file and was unable to figure out what exactly is wrong myself, but here it is: http://pastebin.com/E46sv47N
As far as I can tell the correct drivers loaded but the resolution was set wrong. although if I plug in an hdmi cable in place of the DVI nothing happens and I get a black screen.
I'm trying to get a 1920x1080 resolution but the closest I've gotten is what looks like 1920x1080 squished over to the right side of the screen with a large black bar to the left side. I "accomplished" that by executing the following:
    [archer@arch ~]$ cvt 1920 1080
    # 1920x1080 59.96 Hz (CVT 2.07M9) hsync: 67.16 kHz; pclk: 173.00 MHz
    Modeline "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
    [archer@arch ~]$ xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
    [archer@arch ~]$ xrandr --addmode DVI-1 1920x1080_60.00
    [archer@arch ~]$ xrandr --output DVI-1 --mode 1920x1080_60.00
Anyone have an Idea what I'm doing wrong here?

  • I can't get video to start in Facebook anymore. Was always fine until about 2 weeks ago.

    Using Windows 7, Firefox.
Now whenever I see a post with a video in it on Facebook, I just get a big black screen. I've tried deleting cache, cookies, updating to latest version of Firefox, Flash. Nothing. Big black screen.
It was fine until about 2 weeks ago. I assume there's been some update in Windows or Firefox or something which is knocking it out, or changed a setting somewhere, but I don't know where to find that. Any ideas?

I am using Ad BlockPlus, and wondered if that was an issue. So I have disabled it on Facebook, but no change. I've used AdBlockPlus for a couple of years - no problems on Facebook or other sites for video.
I disabled both PDF plug-ins; shut FF down and restarted it -- no change.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Pressing the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar." Does nothing on my computer. I find add-ons under Tools.

  • Very basic questions about video production

Hi, I've just changed from PC to Mac and I'm feeling a little lost about some basic issues. How do I record my videos on my HD to edit them? I can't even do that!! My beautiful macbook pro plays them perfectly, but there is no option in any menu or tool bar(as far as I know...) that allows me to transfer ithem into my HD.
    Someone HELP me, please!!!!

  • Videos immediately go to pause and will not play

Recently my iPad has stopped playing video. Any video from the net or a service like Netflix comes up and the progress bar indicates downloading, but the player immediately goes to pause every time play is pressed and won't resume. Anybody solve this one before?

    Hello SeaDragon47.
The easiest solution to the "not waking from sleep" issue is to simply plug the printers directly into the wall outlet.  Something about the manner in which surge protectors/power strips handle electricity doesn't sit quite right when electronics want to wake up.
Another possibility is to upgrade the firmware on the printers.  Here is the latest firmware for the Officejet 4620.  The Photosmart does not appear to have upgradable firmware.
Yet another suggestion is to set static IP addresses for the printer(s).  I am not sure why but having a static IP set seems to keep the printer from going into sleep mode in the first place.
Let me know if this helps.  Have a lovely day.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Cant get videos on my 80gig classic

im new to video ipod. my question is how can you put movies from DVD's on my ipod, and how. Thanks for any help.

Jeff, I can't get videos on my New 80g ipod classic to play on my tv. I have the AV composite cable from APPLE and all of my settings are set correctly. I have tried every thing and have even talked to Apple Customer Service. After an hour and fifteen minutes on the phone with them tring different things, they said that it must be a bad cable. I told them this is a brand new cable that was purchsed at the same time as the Ipod. Not only that but it is the second set of BOTH items in three days because I returned them both to the store after I could not get that one(the first Ipod and cable) to play on my Tv and was given a NEW Ipod and cable. This one is not working on my TV neigther. All I get is a message on the Ipod screen saying "TV OUT ENABLED please connect tv accessory". But the cable is already connected. Do you or anyone have any idea what is wrong. PLEASE HELP. If you/anyone have a solution or feed back for this problem, please email me at [email protected] and also please post it because I'm pretty sure that there are others with this problem.
    thanks

  • If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question

If I upgrade to Mountain Lion on the computer that will install it, will my WIFI still work on the computer that cannot be upgraded? I know this is a very basic question. Trying to hold out as long as I can, but purchasing an iPhone for Christmas and new iMac next year when warrently expires.

Thank U very much for the quick reply, I wanted to upgrade this weekend, but still on the fence. I can live with the software that is not compatible, they are on another compuetr, just didn't want the obvious stuff to stop working.

  • Basic questions about JSF/af:panelPage/Facets

    Hi there
Using JDev 10.1.3.3.0, I created a couple of JSP pages using JSF and ADF BC. Then I added to one of them a af:panelPage and changed the facet branding to be the company logo.
Do I need to do the same for the other page (and any other pages that I create)? Is there a place where I set this facet value globally?
And is there a way to set up what facets are included in a af:panelPage by default?
Sorry if these are basic questions, I am just starting to use JSF!
    Thanks,

  • Possibly a very basic question but I have set up a spread sheet in Numbers and have viewed help videos but I can't get it to give me sums for the columns I highlight.  Keeps coming up with the figure zero.  I have version 09 2.3(554). Can anyone help

Possibly a very basic question but I am going nowhere without a solution.  I have set up a spreadsheet in Numbers but it won't give me sums for chosen columns. I  have viewed the run through videos and used the formula but nothing happens apart from giving a figure of zero or a red arrow.  The sum icon in the bottom left hand section of the window does not highlight or show any total as I understand from the video that you can drag whatever total is here onto the relevent position on your spreadsheet.  I have Numbers 09 version 2.3 (554). Can anyone advise. Thanks.

    Hi Sohojools,
To sum a column, use a formula such as this one in Cell A6
Type this in a cell below your data:
=SUM(A2:A4) or whatever range of cells you want to sum. The easy way is to type:
    =SUM(
and then drag or shift-click to select the range of cells. Close the formula with a final bracket ")".
The sum icon in the bottom left hand section of the window does not highlight or show any total
To see the sum (and other simple statistics) in the bottom left, select a range of cells. That tells Numbers which cells you are refering to.
The videos are good, but the Numbers'09 User guide, and the Formulas and Functions User Guide are better. Download them from the Help Menu in Numbers.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Starting out with FCP - import and setup question

I believe I have some good gear to begin using FCPX.
iMac 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM, AMD  Radeon 1 GB, Lion 10.7.2
    Canon EOS 60D Camera
(Have an external drive although it is used for time machine)
    Living in Canada
Would like to start using FCPX (dowloaded yesterday) in a relatively simple way to get used to it in small steps.
Is there a list of attributes and hints that would provide any easy start for understanding the best way to setup the camera, preferences on FCPX, import routine including basic event management etc.  other thoughts like when should I consider an external drive versus using iMac internal drive ould be appreciated.  I have been waching a number of tutorials and reviewing the discussions groups and many of these do get a little complex quickly.  Not worried about the complexity in the future just want to start out simply and then progress over time.  (Not sure I am ready to understand all the codec complexities that get a lot of attention just yet.)
Will keep looking at discussion groups and tutorials to advance my learning although any pointers to well thought out "newbie" information would be helpful (5000 discussions is a lot to go through).  Also do I need Compressor and Motion out of the gate?
    Thanks

4 GB RAM is barely enough (despite what Apple say). FCP X is very RAM hungry.
(Have an external drive although it is used for time machine)
Particularly with an iMac, I recommend you put your Media, Events and Projects on an exclusive, fast external HD formatted 'Mac OS Extended' (not necessarily journaled - it doesn't matter for video).
    Living in Canada
    Shouldn't present any problems : )
Is there a list of attributes and hints that would provide any easy start for understanding the best way to setup the camera, preferences on FCPX, import routine including basic event management etc.
Depends on  what you want to do - particularly regarding drive space. If you're prepared to spend a little money on external HD space, then I would import all your footage as ProRes 422 - your iMac will find it far easier to edit and play back.
The downside of ProRes is that it takes up between 5 and 7 times more drive space than your (highly compressed) camera footage.
Also do I need Compressor and Motion out of the gate?
No - strictly speaking you don't - but I wouldn't be without either of them.
I don't know the 60D (I have a 5D Mk2) but I suggest the footage might be inclined towards high contrast and sharpening by default (as with the 5D 2). If the menu allows you to reduce the contrast and saturation (probably by as much as it will allow) you will have much more leeway when it comes to colour grading.
The footage won't look so amazing when you first import it, but you can do more with it. On the 5D 2 I get about two stops more latitude with exposure this way.
I also reduce sharpening to about half what the camera default - remember, the manufacturer wants you to be blown away by the first images you get from your camera - so they set the colour, contrast and sharpening at levels which are far too high for good grading.

  • How to get plain old S-video and Composite out from a MBP?

    Hi,
this question is about someone's MacBook Pro he newly bought with adapters to get both DVI and Svideo/Composite Out.
He got Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D converter, and a DVI-I to video converter, that cannot be plugged into a DVI-D port. Apple removed the analog capability of its adapter, that's bad. But what's badder is there doesn't seem to have any Mini DisplayPort to Svideo/Composite adapter, as there was with previous generation machines.
How can someone easily output analog video from MBP?

In fact, I recognize that these standards are old, which doesn't mean they're not up-to-date. Similar example, VGA connector is old, but perfectly useful, even in 2009. I recently plugged a 22" LCD with VGA and DVI on the same computer (a bland desktop PC), and there was strictly no difference. Same color depth, same crisp display. Even looking at a corner with a magnifier, nothing was different.
So, changing standards just for the sake of it doesn't make any sense.
Agreed that, as a pro, Apple would like me to buy their pro line, but nowhere in the pro line does an easy solution exists for S-Video and composite out. The solution you posted exists, but is unwieldly and not neat at all, if it doesn't break the Mac's connector under its weight. If a manufacturer can do this kind of adapter, Apple can do it better, and make a bigger profit out of it.
For the adapter you posted, I don't ever buy anything that is not at least Mac+Windows compatible, or at a minimum is open-source, so anyone with programming skills can make something. The manufacturer also doesn't give a clue on how this works. I guess some sort of virtual driver sits in the system as a virtual IEEE1394 port so any program requiring FW can work transparently. Still, incompatible with the OS that most manufacturer ship their new PCs with, poor commercial decision, wether you like the OS or not.
Adding FW in the MB unibody design wouldn't have cost anout $30. Rather, we're talking about a 25 cents chip, a 25 cents connector, which they would have rounded up to $20 and still, that was present in previous-gen MB. After all, they are indeed selling a matte screen on the MBP 17" for $50 more, despite them removing a single piece of glass which may cost, well, let's be fair, $5 to manufacture? That's dishonest. And capitalistically justified.
So far, choosing a Mac for one's needs is no easy task: older white MacBooks have the same power as unibodies, excellent connectivity, top notch transfer speeds, BUT are heavier, as not as ecologically friendly nor do they have future-proof RAM standard. The unibodies are sleekier, easily recycled and will be able to be upgraded in the near future BUT is most likely unable to use current devices and have slower transfer speeds.
For Pro models, the newer ones have great efficiency, much power and flexibility with their dual GPU BUT lost the option of matte screen, although their other pro-oriented monitors still default to matte. Only the 17" has the option. If a pro already finds his 15,4" bulky and with ample reserve power, will he buy the bigger and heavier 17"? Probably not.
I understand that Apple way of doing business is keeping only what's essential with no unnecessary options (I'm looking at you, Asus, with you at least 10 different versions of you netbook). But this time, not everyone can find what he or she wants in Apple's line of laptops, as opposed to the iPod thing, where virtually any possible preference is covered.

  • STILL can't get Videos into 5G iPod , Ready to throw it out the window

I'm ready to throw this iPod out the window , I spent all day yesterday over 10 hours , trying to get videos onto my iPod , my iPod software and iTunes are up tp date , first I just drag and dropped them as MPEG no luck iTunes recognized and played them but wouldn't let me drag and drop them to the iPod then I used iSquint , it converted them to MPEG 4 , they transferd into iTunes and played but not the iPod I got an error that they weren't transferable and not recognized by the iPod .
I called Appe this morning and they were no help since I didn't get the Vid's from the appple store and since you only get one free service call ,and wouldn't tell me the format for the videos I didn't want to waste it . They suggested I buy Quicktime Pro .
Then I tried , Movies For My iPod . I used the transfer for iPod option , it converted them to .mp4.m4v . I drag and dropped them directly to the iPod no luck , they're there but wont play or show up in the iPod then I opened up iTunes and drag and droppped them into iTunes again played in iTunes not transfered to the iPod although it said it was updating .
Then ,I tried the custom settings file format MP4 , video format , MPEG-4 Improved , Image Size 320 X 240 QVGA , again I tried to drag and drop them onto the iPod still not there , now I tried to drag and drop unto iTunes , again they're there and play but won't show up on the iPod . I've pretty much had it .
In the Movies For MY iPod they're are some custom settings . File Format MP4(ISMA) In the Video there is an MPEG-4 Improved setting with a bit rate of 256 kbits/sec Image size 320x 240 QVGA frame rate 30 plus alot of other settings which I have no idea what they are .
Today I have 6 hours of frustration into this still no luck . I'm really disappointed with Apple ,I started out with the first iMac a Bondi Blue and have been working my way up , I have an iBook , an iMac Graphite , a G4 iMac a 15G 3G iPod now the 5G iPod . Apple should have included Quick Time pro in the G5 , and only one support call, come on , even Dell gives you a year of support .
And to top it all off the Black is beautiful but scratches easily , I'm a chef , my nails very short and allready it's scratched to bits by the wheel, I keep it in a case when I'm playing it , you can hardly touch it . I'm not very happy with Apple and this iPod , they rushed it out for the holiday , so if your in the jacksonville Florida area look for a flying iPod .

Lets run down a list of possibilities:
    1) You are using iTunes 6 here, correct?
    2) You did not say whether or not you are running in auto-sync, manual management, or "Enable Disk" mode. If you left it in the default mode as installed (auto-sync), then after dropping your movies into iTunes (or adding them to the Library), simply connect your iPod and allow it to auto-sync (mirror) the current contents of iTunes. (You can also try "Update iPod" option under the File menu, but I have found it unreliable -- possibly owing to "sleeping" iPod.)
    3) Not sure if your reference to "dropping the movie on the iPod" is a reference to the iPod desk icon in manua/disk enabled mode or the iPod "Source" reference/associaed contents list in iTunes. Could you clarify where you are attempting to "drag 'n drop" and/or the selected sync mode of operation in your iPod Preferences.
    4) As to conversion to iPod compatible formats, recommend you stick with MoviesForMyPod and/or iSquint if you are restricted to QT Pro 6 and not sure what settings to use for MPEG4 preset collection/QuickTime Movie full manual mode.

  • Why can't I get the Audi-video chat started?

My step-daughter and I have iSight cameras and Macintosh Computers with iChat installed. On Friday afternoon we tried to start a video-chat. I heard by phone, that we were both trying to get in touch with each other at the same time.
    • I was able to get my step-daughter entered as one of my ‘Buddies’. There is a Buddy List and her name is there, correctly. Though I have to add her name, from my address book, each time I close iChat down.
    • The rectangular menu has the following icons at the bottom A, a telephone icon & a video-camera ‘greyed out’. I do not see why I cannot blacken them.
    • When my step-daughter succeeded in getting her camera turned on (see could see herself on her computer screen) I double-clicked on the video-camera part of her name card in the buddy list.
    • Miraculously, but ultimately disappointingly, the process of trying to contact my step-daughter began. Another view of my camera picture appeared, the rotating ‘stop-clock’ type icon began spinning for about ten seconds. The message setting up video-chat changed to tell me that the attempt to establish a video-chat had failed because I had failed to respond.
    • But I had no indication of how to respond. Minutes later I was able to establish a chat with my step-daughter with text. If I can establish textual contact, why not audiovisual?
    • I take it the use of Bonjour is the way to go rather than aim.

I'm not sure how to add to my own topic, or I'm supposed to... but here goes.
One thought as to why text messages will work and Audio Video won't has to do with broadband speed. I checked my Internet Service Provider website (Cable & Wireless in the Cayman Islands) and they have a way of 'Testing Your Broadband Speed'.
I tried that and although I could not print the results, the test told me that my download speed is 1.3 mb and my upload speed is 553 kb. I haven't a clue if that is fast, slow or something in between. however, page 3 of the iChat brochure (videoconferencing for the rest of us) http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/ichat/ said that to initiate or participate in a 1 to 1 video conference the bandwidth required is 100 kbps. I've got that, right?
Another thoughtthat I had was that my step-daughter may not have 'Full .Mac membership', she may just be 'on trial'. I'll ask her and if that's the case it's problem solved, see page one of http://www.mac.com/1/ichat.html.
Router doubts have been dispelled. I have a Netopia not a Belkin. A troubleshooting piece from 2003 refering to a Beta version of all this said that a Belkin router would not do the business.
So, anymore thoughts out there, Mac people?

  • How do i get video out to connect to aprojector

How do I get video out of my Ipod touch(4th gen) to connect to my projector. I have the correct cable and the projector work fine when connected to my laptop, mirrors the creen correctly But I cannot get an output from my Ipod.Cheers

    hi
I think I have found the app, I was not seeing  the obvious, so I can now play videos on the Ipod itself.  With regards the cable it is a Dexim unit which plugs into the long Ipod socket on the base. From that unit there is a cable terminated with jackplugs. One end into the dexim unit another into the projector. As I said it worked fine on a 2nd generation, I just played the video on the 2G Ipod and it came thru onto the projector. Hence my thought that it was a setting and/or app on the 4thG Ipod.
Again many thanks for all your help, at least it is improving my knowledge of Ipod
    Cheers
PS started with the ipod download guide but the problem isnt addressed hence my plea on this forum.
PPS I've emailed Dexim to see if just in case the unit  I have isn't compatible with 4thg Ipod for some reason
