Batch - image processor

Posting gives me error "m4", so I'll try to post it as a reply to this...

Hi all, I have a problem.
I need to save some -a lot, actually- psd files as multiple formats and sizes, such as jpg 15x15cm 300 dpi, or png 600x600px 72 dpi, and the batch function, running with an action that saves and crops every psd like I want, works very well.
But the problem is that if I have a folder with many subfolders -an others within them-, batch is no longer useful since it doesn't -it does?- keep the folder/subfolders structure, as Image processor does. On the other hand, image processor doesn't let me choose any format I want, but only jpg, psd and tiff.

  • PNG in Batch/Image Processor?

Can we PLEASE have PNG-24 added to the Image Processor?
I've got this basically down as it is quite similar to the way I used to process in batch back in 7.0 days.
Set up an action with a save-for-web with a resize and a ctrl-alt-shift-S.
Use Bridge - Tools -> Batch with an override save with some rules and a destination. Done like dinna! Well, sort of...
However, there are two problems because I cannot use any of the smart features of the Image processor.
#1 - I cannot use absolute size values, or "longest dimension" type resizing. In this one specific case, I have standardized sizing for my source images, and even though I have 5 different image configurations (ie 3000x2000, 2000x3000, 2000x2000, 1000x3000 etc...) because they all come from one source and have been pre-handled (RAW-Tiff + BG Extraction to PNG), I can just set a simple Percentage based resize. This is a rare case for me and often my source images are all different sizes
#2 - Renaming abilities. These do not work correctly in CS6 Batch. I don't know why, but my suffixes are ignored and the destination file names are untouched by the "override save as" when I use "save for web". I can use the save-as, but it seems odd that the save-for-web isn't supported in the Batch.
#3 Hassle. It's just more hassle overall and considering that I work in a 3-person team and my position is such that I am doing less and less of the actual PS work and more of the planning work, it's frustrating to have to teach these functions to our less experienced workers (who actually don't speak English, adding an even greater level of difficulty)
Why not just put the PNG option in the image processor?
Seems silly given the increasing reliance on PNG's for web design and the increasing user-friendliness of web design as well.

I think your running into the fact that save for web is an export plugin and doesn't pay attention to the Automate>Batch settings or those in the Image Processor.
There are two very good scripts that should work:
    Image Processor Pro
(part of the Dr. Brown's Services 2.3.1)

  • Image Processor Task Progress

Bridge should display an overall progress bar when it is performing a batch image processor task. It would be nice to see at a glance how many of the images have been completed and how many remain.
Bridge should have an option to play a sound (fanfare) when it completes a batch image processor task.

it seems to me that there should be a script command for the progess bar. Simply put, a call to show the progress meter with a particular value. Pseudo-code:
    n = 0;
    while (loop)
    n++
    progress_meter ("message here", n / total)
    [...work]
    end
I don't know applescript, so the syntax is for demonstration only. But the point is that if bridge/photoshop had a entry point for scripts to initiate a progress meter, the script-writer can choose how to present the interaction to the user.
The API proposal I used above assumes that the first parameter to the function is a message to display in the progress meter, and the second parameter is a percentage value to indicate how far along the meter should present.
Perhaps there could be other params to pop it up and to take it down, which would only be necessary when the user wants to do so independently of the default behavior (which would be to pop up upon the first call to it, and to take it down when the script ends).

  • Image processor [in Script menu] not recognizing PSD files?

I've been using PS since CS.  I still keep a copy of CS2 on a computer simply for the Script -> Image Processor.  Since CS5, the processor no longer recognizes many files.  These same files will batch process with no problem in CS2.  Anybody figure out why the processor has recognition issues?  Thanks for any help.

File names are visible using the "select folder" button, directing the script to locate the files to be batched.  When selecting the folder, you will see the files within the folder in the adjacent tab [windows or mac].  CS5 put a limit of 8 [if I remember correctly] characters on the processing script.  Additionally, some symbols which are permissible in other file naming protocols, no longer worked.
The experience is wide spread among heavy users of this batch tool.  I have seen many "google" searches on the subject...which is how I identified the naming issue in CS5.  The issue exists with JPG and PSD files; Adobe RGG and, sRGB; each processed from RAW or other JPG/PSD files.  I simply cannot determine why one set of files work, and  another will not, yet all will work on older versions of PS.
Once again, these same files causing issue, will process without issue on a CS2 version I keep for just such occurrences.  I've been using the batch image processor since CS to apply actions to folders of files.

  • Bridge CS6: How do you write a script to assign a shortcut to "Batch" and "Image Processor"?

Many times a day I need to access "Batch" and "Image Processor" in Bridge.
There is no shortcut, so I have to go the Tools-Photoshop-Batch and Tools-Photoshop-Image Processor menu - the items I need are locked into a second level menu.
    Which is impractical.
I remember, when I started out with Photoshop many years ago, I downloaded "Deke Keyes" from Deke McClelland, which included keystrokes for "Batch" and "Image Processor".
From the Bridge forum I learned that you cannot assign shortcuts in Bridge CS6.
So the general opinon was that a script was used to assign the shortcuts.
Could you please tell me how to do that?
    Thanks!
PS: I tried to assign shortcuts via the Mac OS X Mountain Lion keyboard preferences (applications), but it did not work.

    Hi,
in the exit:Event of the 1st date field add this FormCalc script:
    DateField2 = Num2Date(Date2Num($.formattedValue, "DD.MM.YYYY") + 21, "DD.MM.YYYY")
You may have to change th date pattern  "DD.MM.YYYY" in the way you need it.

  • Photoshop CS3, wanting to batch re-size JPGs, going: file-scripts-image processor, the batch images are greyed out can't be highlighted

Hi - I am trying to batch re-size JPGs in CS3.  I go: file-scripts-image processor and select a batch of JPGs but these are greyed out and can't be highlighted, therefore can't be re-sized. This function worked in the past and suddenly does not. Reading forums on this topic I find I should remove/trash 'Photoshop Preferences'. But I am struggling to find Photoshop Preferences. Really would appreciate simple instructions written for the layman not a computer savvy individual, on how/where to locate these, please. Many thanks.

    A few things to try.
1)Since jpg's are finiky with bit modes, make sure your mode is in 8-bits per channel only. (found in the image>mode menu)
2)you could try resetting the preferences by using the 3 modifier keys at startup. ctrl-alt-shift(windows) cmd-opt-shift(mac) Hold these three keys down when you start photoshop if done right when photoshop starts you should get a dialog box asking if you want to reset the preferences)
3)If these do not help specify the version of photoshop, what OS you have and its version. Then someone can tell you the location of the preference files since it is different on windows vs. a mac.

  • How to batch resize in Bridge CS6 or Image Processor using height only?

I have batches of images that need to resized based on height only and would like to do so using Bridge/Image Processor. My height requirement is 1140px, however the original images are varied in landscape/portrait orientation and are of different aspect ratios (2:3, 3:4, etc). So far what I have had to do is filter in Bridge just the landscape images then select an aspect ratio, then plug into Image Processor the exact pixel dimensions of the resized images (that I discovered using Photoshop to resize and check the resulting pixel dimension). There has to be a more efficient way.
An example of what I am running into:
    Image 1
    Original file = 5616 h x 3744 w Portrait orientation
    Resized file = 1140 h x 760 w
    Image 2
    Original file = 3744 h x 5616 w Landscape
    Resized file = 1140 h x 1710 w
    Image 3
    Original file = 4652 h x 3489 w Portrait
    Resized file = 1140 h x 855 w
From that example, is there a way I can plug just the height number in Image Processor (or any other Photoshop utility) so I can just batch out a bunch of images all at once?
FYI - I am not interested in buying any new software such as Lightroom to accomplish this task. I would like to remain within Photoshop/Bridge if possible.

You can do what you want with Image Processor without a script.  All you have to do is enter the number of pixels you want for the height (1140 pixels in your case) and then enter a number for the width that is wider than any image you will process.  Image processor will always resize the images to fit inside this rectangle.  That is, the height will always be 1140 and the width will fall where it may.  It works like the Fit Image command in Photoshop.

  • I have Photoshop CS5 and my image processor and batch tool are gone. How do I get them back?

I have Photoshop CS5 and my image processor and batch tool are gone. How do I get them back?
I went into edit preference and all the start up scrips are selected so what else is there?

When you installed CS5, you have a chance to register it. If you do, your serial number is on file under your Adobe (My Products). If you did not, you have no serial number on file and even worse, no proof you own it.
You do not have your serial number copied down anywhere? Hard to believe you tossed the dvd box and all the documents away.
So Help > Register might give you a chance to do this without you knowing the number.

  • CS5 Batch Via Image Processor Fail

Hi All, I have  batch problem in CS5 using the Scrips/Image Processor feature. I have an action which does the following to a folder of selected images (jpegs): Creates a duplicate layer, runs Portraiture on the image, creates a new layer on top of Portraiture via a layer combination, then runs Alien Skin Exposure film simulation filter. The problem is that after 144 images process, normally the 144th or 145th image will fail to close. The remaining images will open and close (and save in destination folder) but the action is not applied to those remaining images. If I stop the batch and restart, it will immediately fail again. Photoshop must be closed and repoened in order for me to process remaining images (up to 144). My source images are normally (2-4mb) jpegs and I am saving the batched images as either jpegs or psd's. Either way fails. I am running CS5 with the most current update on a 2010 MacPro (12gig) with OSX 10.7.4 installed. Please help!

  • Shortcuts for Batch and Image Processor in Bridge CS6

I use Batch and Image Processor all the time, and I'd like to use a shortcut.
Can you tell me if there is a shortcut or how I can program one?
I set up shortcuts for those two commands in Photoshop, but they don't work in Bridge.
I remember from the time I started with Photoshop and had Deke McClelland's book with his set of shortcuts. There was a shortcut that worked with image processor, but it was just a set you did install and no explanation. When I moved to a different computer and a newer version of Photoshop, these keys got lost.
Is there any way to automate Batch and Image Processor?

There is no way to economically batch process in Bridge without having to go thorough sub-menus.
I'm sorry you can't get it to work, but on my system it works flawless.
Testing a bit more it seems you don't need to use a unique shortcut at all. I also tried to use the shortcut for Batch I created in PS itself to get the Batch window to front for running actions on open files. For me that is [control + Cmd + B] but feel free to find an other one.
When I discovered you don't need the unique shortcut at all I used the same shortcut for Bridge CC. . Also created [Control + Cmd + i] for the Image processor.
    Both started without problems.
To extend I also created both same shortcuts for Bridge CS6. This also was working correctly, off course, having only PS CC open using the shortcut in Bridge CS6 it auto started PS CS6.
So can you specify a bit more about what OS you are using on what computer (I have OSX 10.8.4 on a MacPro 2012)
Some screenshots to show the shortcuts in System prefs and how the show in the Bridge Submenus:

  • Where is it possible to batch process the size of images?--I am able to change pixel dimensions in image processor but not image size in inches.

Hi- I need to batch process images for video project.  I am able to change the pixel dimensions in the image processor but don't seem to have the option to change image size in inches.  Please advise!  Thanks

You don't need inches for video (or screen viewing in general). It all goes by pixel count. Inches is for print, nothing else.
But to answer the question, you can run actions in the Image Processor, and this is where you set size in inches. Just bring up Image Size, uncheck "resample image", and specify size. You'll notice resolution changes to reflect the fact that the existing image pixels are now redistributed over the new print size.
But again, screen doesn't care about size or resolution. It only counts pixels.

  • Batch Action through Image Processor Leaves Files Open in CS4

I am not sure if this is a change in CS4 or something that I am doing incorrectly. But when I run Bridge CS4 < Photoshop < Image Processor (running an action that I have been running since CS2) the files do not close in photoshop after running the action. In all prior versions of PSCS#, photoshop closed the file after finishing the action. The files all save properly. But having hundreds of files opened inside of photoshop causes the scratch disk to go low and slows everything down.
    What am I doing wrong?

I haven't experienced that problem. But a related annoying problem with batch actions in CS4 is that if I minimize Photoshop while a batch action is running, the program interface minimizes, but the images open and close on the desktop still. In prior versions of PS, I could minimize the program and the batch action would go on in the background, invisible to me, while I could do other tasks. But now, when I run a batch to convert over 1000 files, each one pops open on the desktop, in front of any other open app's windows. It then closes and the next one opens, etc. Which means my computer is unusableduring any batch command.
Very annoying! How could the QA and beta testers have not noticed this?

  • Used Photoshop Image processor to batch convert from CR2 to Jpeg and the edits don't stick

Ok, so I had a huge wedding where the bride paid me to deliver a ton of images.  Well, i did all my edits in ACR and then photoshop.  While in photoshop all the edits look to have been applied.  So, I use edit > Scripts>Image processor to convert the CR2 files to Jpeg in one fell Swoop.   Well, on my last run though (checking any images for missed edits or what not), none of of the edits were applied to the saved jpegs.  So I bring one up in Photoshop (the saved Jpeg) and the edits are applied in Photoshop.  So I click save and it tries to save as a PSD file (which it was not originally saved as).  I click to JPEG and it asks to replace the existing file and I do.  Voila, all the edits are a-pplied.  Now, I have about 200 images that I need to do this on.
Is this common with the image processor?  Is it not for converting processed Raw files to JPEG and keep the edits?
I'm very frustrated since now, depending on my misunderstand of the tool, I have to spend extra time saving the files again.  (At least I don't have to re-edit them)

I have action I wrote so that on large groups of pictures I hit my actions.  It goes through the whole set.  Then I hit my flatten and it goes through the whole set.  Then I go to scripts > image processor  and covert them to jpeg.
The weird thing is when I bring up the jpegs in photoshop, all the edits are there.  When I look through Photo Mechanic or upload them to the web, they aren't

  • Image Processor CS4 Cannot batch process from psd to jpg ERROR MSG

I have been receiving the error message "Sorry, I could not processes the following files:" when ever I try to change DNG or PSD files to jpg in camera raw.  It does not matter if I try this with one file or 100. I am running CS4 on a Mac OSX 10.5.8.  I have enough memory, have cleared trash, purged cache....I don't know what to do to make this run correctly.  Please help!

Thank you for responding and yes, I would be more than happy to elaborate.
In Bridge I normally change my images from psd or dng using the following steps:
    Tools
    Photoshop
    Image Processor
change to jpg with a quality of 10
This has always worked in the past on CS3 and worked a few times once I upgraded to CS4.
I can do one image or a number of images.  I started receiving the error message stated above
    when doing these steps.
I have purged Bridge cache, have memory on system...startup disks are not full.
I cannot figure out why I keep getting this message or how to fix it.
Any and all help is much appreciated!!!
